"Mix together love, betrayal, lies and secrets set against the rarefied world of Olympic figure skating, and you have a tender story that leaps off the pages and twists its way into your heart. Ms. Edwards scores with Saving Katya. Her writing glides along through ups and downs until two former Olympians win their happy ending." -Cara Marsi ~ Author of Loving Or Nothing, 2012 Silken Sands Star Finalist
The Story: Olympic Gold Medalists Kate Peterson (U.S.) and Alexei Petrova (Russia) haven't seen each other in eight years--not since their teenage affair ended after Alexei was forced back to Russia.
Since then, Kate has disappeared into relative obscurity, while Alexei--who's now living in the States--has made a fortune selling "himself".
When figure skating's gold medalists are invited to light the flame at the torch-lighting ceremony, the two are thrown back together again, yet each harbors a secret that could prevent a happy reunion.Ìý

The story is complete nonsense and it's poorly written to boot.
1) Alexei's last name would be "Petrov." "Petrova" is the feminized version of that name.
2) They're both singles skaters but they skate as a pair on the tour? And they go to the trouble of learning difficult pairs moves like a throw double axel and pairs spins? If two singles skaters were to put together a joint routine for an ice show, it would be a novelty, crowd-pleasing routine where they mostly do moves side by side, using skills they already have.
3) Kate is a waitress, yet she has a full-time nanny? She needs money and, as a has-been athlete who's been out of public life for eight years and is going blind, her plan is to get an endorsement deal worth $500K? Most active athletes don't make anywhere near that kind of money in endorsements. (A more viable plan would have been to sell her story to the tabloids, or to ally with a charitable foundation.)
4) Kate's "mysterious, incurable" disease is patently made-up and only worsens when it's convenient to the plot. In one day she goes from needing surgery in 4-6 months, to needing it in 4-6 weeks, to needing it in 72 hours.
5) Alexei notices that Kate's little girl has his hair color and is named Katya (his pet name for Kate) and never considers that he might be her father. He even has the passing thought that birth control sometimes fails - and he still doesn't connect the dots!
6) He's a multi-millionaire with legitimate business interests in the US, attending the Olympics by invitation, and a senator is trying to have him deported? Having him audited would be a more realistic threat, but of course the threat of deportation gives Alexei a reason to need to get married.
7) Even I know that unequal pupil size is a sign of concussion. How does Alexei not know this? Skaters fall and hit their heads all the time. He must have gotten a concussion himself at some point.
8) Alexei buys a teddy bear to take up to Kate's hospital room with him, then buys some flowers to be delivered there. Why not just take the flowers up himself? Basically so that he can obnoxiously pay the $10 delivery charge with a $100 bill and show that he's rich.
9) "Kate closed her eyes and "listened" to the skaters." No quotes needed - she's actually listening with her actual ears. "Vigilance escaped in her tone and settled on her face." Um, what? A seven-year-old asks, "And this is just a precautionary measure, right?"
10) Strange and inconsistent capitalizations throughout, e.g. his Gold Medal, his Cashmere coat, a Toe Loop jump, etc. The "US Residence" in one place and "U.S. residence" in another.
Blech. The writer demonstrates no knowledge of athletes, medicine, or even basic common sense.

The author had tons of potential here and in my opinion wasted it. The plot was rushed in the lasts few pages, and the main female character goes back to a man who left her, and she hasn't heard from in eight years, in one page...I think not.
Saving Katya is a beautiful romance that left me sighing at the end. I loved the unique setting, the world of Olympic ice skating. Katya, a former Olympic champion, has fallen on hard times. She has a young daughter whom she's fiercely protective of. Katya also has a serious medical condition and needs money to fund an experimental medical procedure.
When Alexei, her former love and skating partner, enters her life again, she realizes she's never stopped loving him. But Alexei's changed, gotten colder and more businesslike as he's grown very wealthy. And he'd dumped her years before. Alexei has issues with Katya too, and he's learned to hide his feelings after she ran away from him.
I loved reading about these two really engaging characters as they learn to trust again. But when Alexei learns a secret Katya has kept from him all these years, their tenuous relationship threatens to explode.
Saving Katya kept me reading to find out how Katya and Alexei would resolve their many issues. The ending was extremely satisfying.

Sandra Edwards is the queen of short overcoming trials and love stories.I am not a contemporary romance reader normally but this was a free read from IBooks. I enjoyed this book, but not as much as I enjoyed her novella "Separate Ways." that was included at the end of this ibook read. I loved "Separate Ways" from the very start. It was written as if I was Gingers friend and she was telling me about her day. I wanted to read more about the Franklin girls so I am waiting anxiously for Edwards new series called "The Lonely Heart Club" if you enjoy reading books that make you feel as if you are an active participant than Sandra Edwards is your writer.
This wasn't what I expected when I realized it was a romance. It was clean and mysterious.
Kate is at the Olympics in order to get a endorsement deal. She meets Alexei a former skating partner and love interest from 7 years ago. Kate is stunned to see him again and realizes that now that he is here it might be difficult to keep the two secrets she has been hiding.
It was well written and could have easily gone the way of a smutty romance but didn't. I kept anticipating a sex scene but it didn't happen which I was grateful for. Glad I had the opportunity to get this and read it.
This is the story of Kate and Alexei two ice skaters who've been separated for eight years because Alexei had been deported to Russia. When they meet again Kate is dealing with an illness that will soon rob her of her sight. She believes Alexei turned his back on her when he was deported. Kate is hiding her illness and another very big secret from Alexei. Both of them go through several hurdles and misunderstanding before they can finally reach their "happy ever after". I'd recommend this to anyone wanting a good book.
Kate and Alexei are Olympic ice skaters that were paired together for a tour after winning gold medals. They were lovers until Alexei was forced to return to Russia by his manager. Due to the manager's interference, both believed they were abandoned by the other. Eight years later, they are reunited at the torch lighting ceremony at another Olympics and Kate is keeping more than one secret from Alexei. Can they put past misunderstandings behind them and admit to themselves that they never stopped loving one another?
Saving Katya was short than I thought it would be, and a stronger narrative than I hoped. I would make for a nice Lifetime movie. That's actually how it felt because of the shortness of the story. If your a fan of the overcoming love story with the happy ending Sandra Edward's Saving Katya is for you.
This was such a touching story I enjoyed it very much. Katya is a figure skater who has a young daughter with a famous Russian skater but he leaves and never knows. She soon starts to lose her vision and one day while she is just skating she runs into him. Being scared to be hurt again she opens up to him and falls in love again. The story was very well written.
One of the many free Kindle books I have gotten, thanks to Pixel of Ink. I love to watch ice skating, so I decided to read a book about ice skating. The story itself was good but it was too jumbled and didn't flow really well.
Liked it!It was great to read what could happen if you let your mind create the scenarios for you instead of getting the facts. That misunderstandings could change your whole life.
