A stylish new caper in the acclaimed series starring the deliciously addictive, designer bargain-hunting paralegal Finley Anderson Tanner!
Getting framed has never been a good look.
Fashionista paralegal Finley Anderson Tanner’s hands are fuller than a coupon-clipping soccer mom’s at a BOGO sale. She’s in a fierce eBay bidding war to buy parts for her DIY Rolex, she’s finally taking on some criminal cases at work, and she’s torn between two drop-dead gorgeous men—her ultra-responsible boss Tony Caprelli and badboy private eye Liam McGarrity. Just when she thinks life is out of curveballs, Liam shows up at her house with a bullet wound—and a shocking confession.
When Liam was a cop, he was framed for shooting a teenage boy in a drug bust. Now the same gun used to shoot the kid has resurfaced at the homicide scene of his ex-partner. On the run from the police, Liam needs Finley’s help to clear his name. How can she say no to the man who always bails her out of trouble—even if it means incurring Tony’s wrath when he learns she’s aiding and abetting a fugitive? But the murderer is clever, and if Finley’s not careful, she’s going to shop till she drops . . . dead.
First, for shame Ms. Pollero! I realise that in a series it's necessary to repeat basic information in each book, so someone picking up in the middle of the series understands what's going on. But to copy, word for word, a whole section of one book and paste it into the next???? Seriously - in book four, , there's a scene with Finley at the home of a client squatting on a client's property. It's a well written scene, very descriptive. In this book, she *revisits* that couple in a follow up to the story and Ms. Pollero proceeds to repeat - word for word - the scene from Slightly Irregular. It was an honest to god cut and paste job. She should be embarrassed.
In spite of this, the book was excellent - finally Finley and Liam make honest headway in their relationship and the plot surrounding Liam and his past is excellent, really well thought out and written. I love the approach of investigating a mystery not only from the p.i. perspective but from the legal one. Finley is smart, capable and clever as well as being humorous. Her friends don't play as big a part in this book, but they're there when needed. This book shows a maturity in both the characters and the plots that a good series has - it's evolving as it should.
I hope Ms. Pellero continues to write this series - but no more copy/paste! People notice!
It’s been a long time since I caught up with Finley and she did not disappoint. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series and to what happens between Finley and Liam. Also, I hope Perry is around more.
I'm so bummed that this is the last book in the series but I thought it was a good ending. Love the Finley and Liam team and how they work together. Good story - mystery meets chick lit and it's a fun combo.
While I was happy to be back in Finley's world and super happy to see her and Liam start heading towards a more defined relationship, I felt a little cheated by this book. It sort of seemed to just stop and not wrap everything up. The main issue I had was the juvie criminal case she was supposed to be working. Didn't really hear much about that? Anyway, I did really enjoy this book and would recommend it as a light fluff read to anyone who likes that type of read every now and then.
This is one of my favorites in the series. There's lots of good personal stuff plus a really exciting case to solve. Fans of the series will love this one! For anyone who hasn't read the series, I suggest starting with the first book to fully appreciate the characters and their relationships. I recommend this series for anyone who enjoys chick-lit with a light mystery and a good dose of humor.
I liked this one most of all! These are just such quick and fun reads. The only problem I had with this is that one scene was copied almost literally from Slightly Irregular, the previous book. I read them in such quick succession that I noticed it. Word for word, the same scene. That, I didn't really like. Apart from that though, this was great.
I absolutely love these books and I've read them all one after the other so I definitely recognize passages that are copied word for word from the other books and I find that so annoying. I know she's describing the same ppl again but it is so lazy to just copy and paste WORD FOR WORD their descriptions and the descriptions of where they live and their family and all that. Other than that loved it.
I loved this series. I did not love that the author cut and pasted pages from her previous book into this one for a similar scene. That's when I stop reading an author, which is too bad, because this was a very entertaining series, and I loved her style of writing.
I know that deadlines can sometimes come up fast, but a good editor should have caught it even if the author meant it as a placeholder and then she was going to fix it later.
Ok. I've read this whole series several times since it was published but this time around I got frustrated. First, Finley. Overall I like the character but the nonsense with Liam got old quick. Yes, he's hot but he's also kind of an a-hole. Girl, listen to your gut and keep far, far away from men like this. Liam more or less negs her throughout the series. And the way he brushes off his continued "thing" with Ashley? Total bullsh*t. And finally, FINALLY, in this book she sits him down and does what she should have done 3 books ago: point blank asks what the deal is with he and Ash .. and he blows her off. Kick him in the nuts and throw him out. Second, the mysteries. They are some of the most cream puff things I've ever read. Seriously, it takes 300 pages to solve these? Ridiculous.
Minor gripes: I no longer want to hear about how much Jane looks like a Pussycat Doll and wears leather minis, 4 inch heels and corsets to work. Overkill in the extreme. Finley, there's nothing wrong with bargain shopping. It's called being responsible. Finally, I wish Pollero wouldn't have cut and pasted entire sections of Sleepy and Wanda Jean over 3 books. Laziness, especially since that all petered out like a damp squib. Maybe that last one is churlish though. Perhaps that would have been something in the next book had she written it.
The only characters I like? Ellen Lieberman and Becky. They seem like reasonable and intelligent women. Oh, and I like Sam and Harold her contractor.
I finished the entire series of Finley Anderson Tanner books by Rhonda Pollero. This series was a VERY VERY simple read. It was a combination of Chick-Lit and Mystery…but mostly Chick-Lit, the mystery was much to be desired. The author’s writing is beginner level at best. Do not get me wrong, I read the books and enjoyed them to some degree, however the plots were sub par and unbelievable. The author would introduce a problem but often times would not resolve it. Another thing that was annoying was that she would literally copy and paste pages of the same information in subsequent books, which I guess would not have mattered if I did not read all the books in order. It was so obvious that I skipped several pages, not one or two but 10 to 15, at a time. In one book, Knock’em Dead, there was a character whose name was spelled several different ways throughout the book. Overall, I did enjoy the books and look forward to the next one. These books can definitely be read over the weekend, not all at once, unless you are a super reader. If you decide to read this series do not have high expectations. I recommend this series but with caution.
Finley Tanner is a paralegal who is torn between two studly men, each with their own style of animal magnetism. Her boss, attorney Tony is stylish, handsome, and has an adorable fourteen year old daughter who adores Finley. Tony is attracted to Finley but fears if the relationship goes sour, his daughter would be the person hurt the most, so his resistence is understandable. Bad boy ex-cop, Liam, is ruggedly handsome and is an ex-cop turned PI who does occasional work for Tony's law firm. Finley can barely control herself around Liam and is unsure of their relationship, or if there is a relationship. Liam is still mysteriously chummy with his ex-wife and Finley finds a jealous monster in her arising, much to Liam's amusement.
Liam is framed for murder and Finley jumps at the chance to prove his innocence, even when her persistent inquiries put her life in jeopardy. With Tony's help, Liam is eventually cleared, the case solved, and Finley gets her man. But which one did she choose?
I enjoyed the book as a whole, but there were a few things that rubbed me very wrong, and that I am unable to overlook. First of all, she completely copied and pasted about 3 pages of material from the last book- she goes to meet a client for the first time and describes their home, family, and pets in great detail mixed with a lot of personal observations. This book, she returns to that same house, and the description is illogically identical. Also, in the first book- Finley googles Liam (breaking her don't google friends rule), and discovers that right before he left the force, his partner was shot. However, in this book, when Liam's past is finally explained- his former partner was murdered in the present, and a teenage gang member's death was the reason he left the force. As much as I enjoyed Finley and Liam's relationship in this book, and of course- loved Izzy, I could not move past these major writing errors.
Like the series, love the characters. However I was really disappointed with Chapter Three, because the majority of it seems to be a complete cut and paste from the last book. I understand it's a continuing story, but authors generally throw in a little background info to refresh your memory, but write something new. Having just finished Slightly Irregular, I recognized almost that entire chapter was verbatim from the last book. I'm not sure who thought this was a good idea...but it's not! I've never seen anything like that. Maybe they thought we wouldn't notice. Really? Cheap and cheesey trick.
That being said, and with the exception of the rant above, this was a great installment in the series. I liked the story and can't wait to read the next one. I just hope there's no more cutting and pasting going on!
Reading the four previous books in this series is almost essential to understanding the characters relationships and motivations.
In this installment, Finley Anderson Tanner - paralegal, bargain shopper living way beyond her income, and sleuth - helps to solve a murder that super-steamy investigator Liam McGarrity is accused of.
Along the way, someone is kidnapped, someone [or two] are shot at, someone [or two] have sex, someone wraps up a legal problem, and someone shops. In other words, lots of action and a few chuckles.
Entertaining, mindless reading!
HaHa - I borrowed this book from the library, but while I was organizing at home, I found a copy of this novel. Forgot I had already read it. As I said, mindless reading!
I enjoy this series a great deal and was glad to find another installment. It's very cleverly written, an excellent plot that kkeps the solution to the crimes a secret until the end. Not as funny as the other stories, but still has a few moments. I wonder if this is the final book in the series though, it seemed to have a rather permanent conclusion to it, a lot of loose ends tied-up. I will hope not! This book is like the Haley Randolph, Stephanie Plum and Jaine Austen books rolled into one! Highly recommend!
BEST in the series!!!! For those driven crazy by sexy & mysterious Liam, you must speed-order this book!! Inventive yet realistic plot gives a back story to our favorite characters, their motivations and actions from previous books. Genuine, well-written dialogue. DON'T START THIS BOOK unless you have time to read in it's entirety....you won't be able to put this down once you start!!!!!! (I stayed up til 3am on a weeknight to finish it, and now I want to read it again...I rarely read books twice in a row).
What a wonderful series. Finley is a wonderful character....smart, funny, very refreshing. And Liam....smokin' hot! I read this whole series in 5 days because I just couldn't stop. The books are witty, quick, great story lines....I am a very big fan now of Rhonda! I just hope there will be more Finley, although it doesn't look that way. If you are looking for a fun read with a witty and smart female lead and a mysterious, hot guy....this is your series!
I liked this book but there were some small problems with it. Like Ms. Pollero describing a clients trailer home that she took word for word from her previous book. Also, when Finley had her hands bound behind her back towards the end of the book and yet she was able to get a hold of a gun and fire it.
I really enjoyed this book. Finley is a fun character, and I love her! However, there seemed to be some cut and paste from the last book in this book. I didn't appreciate the exact same words when Finley was visiting the Bollero family.
