Meisel chronicles the Rangers' 1995 season, revealing the untold story of the stunning rise and fall of a team that was built to do just that. The manipulations of ex-coach Mike Keenan, the player acquisitions of General Manager Neil Smith, the stellar play of captain Mark Messier are explored in ways never touched upon by the New York press. of photos.
- fun read - not incredibly well written - behind the scenes, coaching conversations, GM deals were interesting. although lots of retelling play by play of the games
The highs and lows all in one book. The book perfectly portrays the Rangers 1994 Stanley Cup winning year and ending the drought and the turbulent 1995 season where the Rangers fell in the second round of the playoffs. The book covers the Smith Keenan relationship, the dramatic trade deadline in 1994 and with the odd back story to some of the players this books is a must read for all Rangers fans. Great read.
Really interesting in-depth focus on the '94 and '95 seasons. Since it was written in '95, it has a lot of the scope of "where will this team end up", which I like because it's like an immediate reflection on the end of the Keenan era and start of the Campbell tenure.
I was born in 96 and obviously missed the team winning the Cup in 94. While there is plenty written and many documentaries about 94, there aren’t many about the year after that. This book did a great job of taking you behind the scenes of both 94 and 95 and highly recommended it.
An excellent book, better than I thought it would be, that chronicles the Rangers amazing Stanley Cup season and their less than amazing follow up season. It's remarkable, especially w/regard to "The Jordan Rules" and "The Bronx Zoo" how many championship organizations have such toxic atmospheres and inner turmoil. Must read if you like hockey, especially if you're a Rangers fan.
