Rate this book
After attending years of public school and for reasons unknown, sixteen-year-old Evelyn Hollyander AKA Evie, finds herself suddenly "dumped" at Pinehurst, a stuffy private school for the Mageia—the children of magic. Gone are the days of Geometry and Keyboarding, Evie’s schedule now consists of classes that teach defensive spells and charms against the deadly creatures of the Underworld. She discovers that her magical abilities are far more pronounced than that of her classmates, or even her teachers for that matter. She's forced into sixth period PE, boys only “boot-camp for Slayers; and is taunted by some of the students for being the only female Slayer—ever! But life isn’t all that bad. She has a ten alarm crush on Antonio, a hunky nineteen year old Slayer who is assigned as her personal trainer. She’s ecstatic until she realizes that Antonio can also communicate with her telepathically he can hear every steamy thought she has for him. After learning that her father has been captured and is being held hostage in Hell of all places, Evie seeks help from Antonio and Havoc, a feisty pixie who Evie’s sure is evil incarnate. The three of them journey into the Underworld, battle two-headed vipers, a troll, and spiders that are big enough to suck your face off. She’s propositioned by the Lord of the Underworld himself. Proving more powerful than expected, Evie is an acquisition he must have—as well as his ticket to the Outer World. The the safety of her friends and the knowledge to save her father's life in exchange for an unthinkable price.

It was nice to see the MC develop from a selfish privileged brat to a caring, more thoughtful young woman.

Overall, I really liked this. MC is funny, the love interests add to the story (even if it’s instant love on her part) and I love the pixies.

This was definitely an interesting book. I think my favorite character has to be Havoc. She is hilarious! The Pixies definitely made the book way more interesting. Now as interesting as this book was, there were some inconsistencies. How did they figure out where her father was? They had no evidence, just gut instinct, and a pixie named Havoc. Her name alone would make me not trust her. I also thought Evie had to be pretty dumb. How do you live 16 years and not know a damn thing about your parents? She didn't know her father's real job but she knew that she and her family could perform complex magic spells?

Check out my friends and my book blog! It's
This book is on WattPadd for anyone that doesn't know. All you do is search up for Pinehurst and it should show up!

Review: Okay, so Pinehurst is one GREAT book! Evelyn's—A.K.A Evie father has sent her to what she declares as the worst school she could ever go to. A school for people like her. People that are Mageia's. Mageia's are kind of like magicians mixed with witches mixed with a hotness factor. I mean like everyone described in the book was super beautiful and hot. So, as Evie adjusts to her life at Pinehurst—which is incredibly hard because she's the first female slayer in training! she learns her father has been kidnapped and sent to... Can you guess? HELL! Together with Antonio, the major slayer hottie, Havoc, the annoying and greedy pixie, and Roland, a crybaby slayer they must rescue her father. Of course, Roland is captured before Evie even thinks about going to hell, but don't worry she meets him screaming and crying because he's being roasted by pixie's! Evie learns that she is Child of Light, a person who can open the gates to Hell and allow demons to pass through. That's also what her father is, and why the big bad devil himself wants to capture Evie. But to save her friends and her dying dad she has to make a deal. I'm not going to tell y'all what and all it entails, but trust me it's a huge thing! You can email me if you want spoilers that bad, I'm sure it's somewhere or just comment! I LOOOVE to give out spoilers!

Recommended? Only to people who don't have a problem with yelling at the main guy to kiss the girl!

My Rating? 8/10. (Havoc that annoying little pixie is what brought this down, even though she's probably my favorite character!)

Favorite Quotes? “They’re only the deadliest creatures our kind has to fear. Not to mention the humans. Your father must have told you about them. I stared at her and then gave her my most sympathetic smile. Clearly she was, as my mother would say, “touched in the head.

“Oh goodie, a fight! Havoc was clapping her hands excitedly. “Make it a bloody one, Child of Light! I didn’t want to fight, but Antonio and I had to get a few things straight. “I asked you along. Remember? I took a step toward him. “You don’t let me do anything!

A few chairs down, a boy managed to blow up his cupcake instead of lighting it. Traces of chocolate clung to his hair and face. “Poor James, Iris said sympathetically.

I could describe this book like this: easy way out.

Characters were stereotypic, shallow and had no deeper personalities. I did not care about their lives nor did I care about the plot. Main character was sixteen years old and all she could think about was boys and her looks and stuff like that. She was awful good at everything she did and her selfish nature did not develop during the book which was a shame. She did repeat many times how mature she actually was and wanted to be treated like a grown-up but all I could see was a whining child. She had a high school enemy, spoiled girl called Tracy, but I didn`t actually see any difference between the behavior of Evie and Stacy. They both bullied each other. So.. Was Evie any better than Stacy?

Relationship between Evie and Antonio was mostly superficial. It got a little bit annoying how every time they were together it was like "oh, he can read my mind, how embarrassing - but I hope he would kiss me. Oh, I know that he loves me" etc.
And there`s just this continuous description how hot he is.. All the time. Yeah, we know it already. The story is supposed to grow into a deeper level towards the end but the journey to Hell is just like a picnic trip. So.. Nothing changes.

No.. I`m sorry but this story was just so childish and lame. And it`s a pity because I hoped I could find a whole different world with mysteries, real characters with complex personalities, plot with proper explanations why things happen like they happen and stuff like that. Maybe it`s just me but I would like to read something that has an effort in it even though the book is just for fun. If I should say something good about this book, it would probably be the ever lasting bickering between Evie and Antonio which was occasionally quite amusing.

This book reminded me of Hex Hall. So if you liked that one, go ahead, this was written the same way. But if you try to find something else than described above, I would recommend to leave this one alone.

I NEED THE SECOND ONE! Like, right now!!

I just finished reading Pinehurst and as most of you probably know, reading on a small little phone screen is a genuine pain in the butt, BUT it was totally worth reading this one on my phone and it didn't even take that long since I was so into it. Honestly though, I cant wait for the second one.

What I find amazing is the originality of all of this book. Maybe I just haven't read a lot of books in this genre (although I'd like to think I have) but I can't think of a book to compare this one to. There's lots of different elements in it that can be sort of compared to other books, but it's a unique combination that I really ended up liking. I added this book to my TBR list kind of as a, "why not?" book, but I'm really glad I found it! I don't think I would've found it otherwise.

Plus, the whole story is super funny. Well, the funny parts are really funny. It's a good mixture of humor, action, adventure, and romance--there is a love-triangle for awhile but honestly, it's a good love-triangle and although everyone has their favorites, I think it could go either way.

I think if you liked the Mortal Instruments series, you'll like this one, but if you didn't like that series, there's still a good chance you'll like this one. It's not totally fantasy or whatever you'd call the Mortal Instruments because this one still has a lot to do with the "human world" or whatever you'd like to call it.

Whether you liked City of Bones or not, if this book sounds even a little bit interesting to you, I recommend reading it. I wasn't completely, 100% certain I'd like either, but it turned out to be really, really good.

P.S: I loved all the characters as well and they're all completely different in good ways so there's no worry of boring dialogue.

P.P.S: I'm officially recommending this book to anyone and everyone that likes reading. I don't care who you are, I'm strongly recommending this book!

I’ve just finished reading the first novel in the Young Adult Pinehurst series and I have to say, I really enjoyed it! I read this novel within around three days and read half of that in one sitting.

Pinehurst, written by Nicole Grane, was a great novel that kept me hooked throughout. I found that I loved Evie’s carefree, rebellious attitude and even though she realised her magical abilities were above average, she wasn’t one to brag. The reader gets a really clear insight into her thoughts and emotions on several things including school, family, magic and the most important thing, guys! It’s written from a first person perspective which allows the reader to get very close and I have to say, I really liked the girl.

*Spoiler Alert!*

The reader follows Evie, the protagonist who has a problem with authority and constantly rebels against her dad using her magical abilities. When she’s shipped off to Pinehurst she thinks things will go just as she wants them as she always has, but she soon finds out her dad won’t budge an inch. As she finally begins to settle into life at her new magic school she makes some friends, learns a lot about her dad that she never knew and finds out that she must travel to the Underworld in a bid to save him. All of this is done with her mentor, and complete hotty, Antonio.

I’d give this novel 4.5 stars out of 5. Why minus the half star? Towards the end of the novel I noticed a few typos etc that distracted me a little and therefore upset the flow. That’s the only reason. Looking forward to the next one!

I must have missed something while reading this book.

It started off so bad and to be quite honest, I can't say it got much better...

Now the whole 'I won't hit a girl' BS from boys got old when women got 'equal' rights. So the fact that this is in this book just made me want to scream, pretty sure it lost stars just from that chapter. Secondly why is she such a pain in the rear end? I know she is sixteen but she is vile. Some people said they liked her, I couldn't warm to her, anybody that is that privileged in life is effected by it but do I really want some girl that thinks the word 'servant' in describing a man that supposedly helps her through a lot of things in her life?

Then we have her 'super duper' amazing spell skills which she doesn't always need words to do stuff with. ERGH.

I didn't like Roland, that was pretty obvious that he was a wimpy good looking guy and was going to be as useful as a chocolate fire guard. He needed a good smacking straight off the bat.

I may even downgrade this to a one. There is just so many things in this book I dislike, and I think its all down to the age this author made her. 16 is so young I know this but I don't think her attitude or behaviour reflects this, it made her seem like a toddler and then she would snap into teenager. It just didn't work and I didn't like it at all.

The character voice in this book is phenomenal. I really felt like I was inside Evie's head.
The premise was cliché - kicked out of public school for acting out and finally arriving at primo private school where her parents met. Of course, she immediately finds out her father has been keeping tons of secrets from her.
Her attitude and actions remind me of the typical "poor little rich girl" stories that have been done many times. The story problem (if it was indeed rescuing her father) wasn't made known until halfway through the book. There's a hint of a bigger angle but it wasn't explained or expanded.
The best tension was created by the romance in the story. Most of the other events that happened were just teenage melodrama. As for plot, it wasn't very strong or well-developed but that could be because there wasn't a true problem in the beginning of the book.
I didn't understand how this had anything to do with Olympians (part of the subtitle) and no ties are even introduced in this book. There are guardians and demons but none of it hinted of mythology. Additionally, I thought the solution to her problem was quite cliché.
It was a fun book to read because of the strong voice, but it doesn't have much substance.

What did I think? Pretty dang good!

This book is your generic YA paranormal romance that is prevalent in today's YA literature. But, the best part is, not only is the main character powerful and stuff, but she's also an imperfect hormonal teenager with an attitude problem! This phenomena is rare in YA paranormal romance, so I applaud Nicole Grane for creating the main character like this.

And best of all, NO LOVE TRIANGLE!!!!!! YESSSSS! Well, I guess it would count as a love triangle until , but other than that, it's an almost pretty-straightforward type of novel.

I WANNA READ THE NEXT BOOK BADDDDD.

P.S. I forgot that the "Olympian" part of the title isn't just for show; stuff happens that will blow your mind (if you manage to get a copy of this book with a preview of the next book). If not, feel welcome to read the spoiler below.

The book was well written with just a few editing issues. As a big fan of Harry Potter, I loved this book and am really looking forward to continuing the subsequent installments. And with the word installments, that is one big difference between the two series. This book ends with a very large cliffhanger.

Despite the cliffhanger, I really enjoyed this new version of kids at a special school of magic that regular humans can't see. Although that premise sounds awfully familiar, there are some big adjustments that ensure it has a distinctive voice and POV. Told from the perspective of a somewhat snarky, spoiled 16-year old girl with a wicked sense of humor and hormones in overdrive, this book was funny and romantic. The plot was suspenseful and I had a hard time putting it down, so actually finished it in a single day.

I'm looking forward to lending it to my daughter - and would strongly recommend for any teenage girl or not-so-teenage girls who enjoy reading their kid's favorite books.

This is a fun, quick read. I read it in one night. Aside from the fact that I could not stand Evie, who could not get over herself, and really disliked the way she handled things with her two love interests, I enjoyed the book until the very weird and creepy scene with Evie and the bad guy towards the end. This book doesn't have an overly annoying cliff hanger ending, but it was not a stand alone, either. Information is trickled in throughout, so you aren't left clueless (or the main character isn't) until the very end of the book with an awful and drawn out information dump. At the same time, there were too many questions and loose ends for me. I'm not going to read on. Evie experiences no personal growth in this book, either, and there is sure to be more weird and creepy with the bad guy, so I'm not holding onto hope that I will like the second book better. I did enjoy the concept, though, as well as Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome.

I probably would've marked this book higher if the dialogue between the characters wasn't so cringeworthy, there were times I actually grimaced while reading interactions, I also thought that despite Evie's constant insistence that she was not a child she certainly behaved like a brat - I know she's supposed to be a spoiled little rich girl but at times it was ridiculous, if a 16 year okd met Satan would she really behave in that way? I don't think so somehow. The story is nothing new or groundbreaking but it was interesting enough to keep me reading, this was a book my daughter has downloaded to my Kindle and I find myself reading alot of YA books that she's also reading - no i'm not keep tabs just taking an interest in what she's reading - and this one has the most promise but the characters let it down. Saying that I'll probably read the next installment!

Normally I'm a bit brutal if I end up writing a review...but I did enjoy this story.

My first bit of advice would be to hire a proofreader. There were small grammatical mistakes and spelling errors that simply shouldn't have been there. I overlooked them because I liked the story but they were distracting.

I felt like the ending was rushed. I won't go into detail because of spoilers but the "big bad" was thrown at me and over too quickly.

Overall, it's a neat story up until the last quarter when it, to me, became a different story entirely. I feel like her time at school and training could have been longer with more detail. There was just something missing that I can't put my finger on...

A girl who is confused, childish, and annoying but wants to be treated like an adult. That's Evie. The story line was really good, but the characters are hard to connect with. I read through 90% of the book before I felt something for Evie. She was really frustrating and there were MANY times that I just wanted to smack her and tell her to get over it! I mean there are many books out there with a sixteen year old as the main focus, but they don't act five. I also wish she had a little more guts and less of a "damsel in distress." I think the only characterI really liked was Havoc. This could have been a great book....I'm going to read book two only because the ending did get me and I'm hoping Evie grows up a little.

I thought this book was GREAT. The characters were all really well developed and they all felt like real people. Especially the main character, Evie. Whiny as she was (lol), I felt like I could relate to her. You really felt like you were in her head and you could always tell what she was feeling or thinking about a situation, it was never confusing.

**SPOILER** STOP READING HERE IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK YET.

Now, for people that read the book, I need to know. Am I the only one that ships Evie and Hades?? AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT HOPES THEY STAY TOGETHER?! I CAN'T BE!
