While trying to "rescue" his aunt and uncle from Fairyland, a tourist attraction, Logan Sinclair is bewitched and bedazzled by Kelli SantaFe, their lovely employer
Logan’s chuckle froze in his throat as the napkin holder fell off the counter. Bewildered, they stared at the scattered napkins and the wildly swinging pet door.
"Cats?" asked Logan.
"I could have sworn they were all outside," said Kelli.
"Satin Sheets and Strawberries" is the story is the story of Kelli and Logan.
Let's introduce everyone here:
Location- Fairyland Our heroine- Kelli SantaFe, orphan, owner of the mystical Fairyland, rumored to be part fairy, mostly nymph, strong, independent and caring Our hero- Logan Sinclair, the geologist stationed in Sudan, a wanderer, and nephew to Ruth and Henry The Aunt and Uncle- Ruth and Henry The crazy (adorable) blind dog- Tinkerbell The hunky policeman friend- Josh Schizo cats- Cobweb, Moth and Mustardseed The shitty Cousin- Edwin The swan couple- Angus, Caer, and their to be cygnets and some pure magic!
When Logan goes to retrieve his beloved relatives from what he believes is a circus when his cousin abandons them while Logan was away, he never, in his wildest dreams knows what he is getting into. The sign outside reads "ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK", and the first person he spots in there is a real "fairy", dressed in a pink costume, complete with wings! Turns out, the owner to the madness is Kelli, a whimsical woman, who has taken Ruth and Henry under her wings, and now claims them as hers. She organizes plays, paints fairies, clears creeks, chops wood, farms and takes care of the local population, selflessly provides tours of her magnificent home to the kids- while secretly being almost destitute. While Logan is bent on taking them away, he certainly does not expect to be pushed down the rabbit hole, that is fairyland.. From the Wizard of Oz doorbell, to rooms that clean themselves; from strange shadows Tinkerbell cannot stop barking at, to newspapers and cookie jars moving- Logan finds himself not just captivated by the world around him, but also the enigmatic fairy Kelli, who soon steals his heart. Initially getting off on the wrong foot every time he opened his mouth, he soon worms his way into her heart. With his insistence on taking away Ruth and Henry, who are the only source of love Kelli has, they begin a silent war. But as they decide to give their blooming love a chance, Logan receives a offer to leave. Will he let Kelli go? Or will he take her away from the only home she has?
I love stories with a hint of magic and mayhem, and this had all the elements in it. Sometimes stories go very wrong when a dash of supernatural is added, but this book definitely does it right. I really like the honesty of both the characters- both loved the old couple because they craved a family, and soon ended up finding it with each other. They fight, banter and love passionately. This book has a lot of laugh out loud moments, and many which would make you tear up too. The mystical elements JUST added so much to the story, and as a huge fan of Enid Blyton, I was hoping the Faraway Tree would show up somewhere, LOL.
Our heroine is a survivor. Our hero is a realist. Their coming together is magic.
Since Good Reads doesn't list a description, this is what is on the back of the book.
"The sign said FAIRYLAND-ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK, and Logan Sinclair couldn't image what his aunt Ruth and uncle Henry were doing living there in Snow White's cottage! Then Kelli SantaFe appeared, a golden-haired water nymph in a pink costume and wings, and he knew he'd truly lost his marbles-and his heart! He was intrigued by her laugh, infuriated by her stubbornness, and downright bewitched by her sweet, seductive mouth...when it wasn't suggesting that he stay out of her business. Logan didn't want to fight a tug-of-war with Kellie for his relatives, whom she'd taken in and treated like the family she'd always wanted, but his guilt at not being there when they'd needed him made him determined to make a home for them now. Kelli had fallen hard for Logan, who could laugh at himself and rescue damsels in distress, but who also had the power to shatter her happiness. Could fairy magic help them weave their dreams together?"
Even on my re-read, I still really love this story. I forget the real world and want to visit, no live at Fairyland. The romance is sweet and the hints of fairies are intriguing. Logan had been working out of country for years and returns to find out his aunt and uncle's house had burned down and his distant cousin had basically abandoned them at Fairyland. Kelli never had much family as she was left as a baby, but she instantly adopted Ruth and Henry to fit in with the dog, three cats and two swans that lived with her at Fairyland. She feels threatened that Logan will take her new family away, while he is overwhelmed by guilt and lust.
This is another great paranormal themed romance from Loveswept. I hate that this imprint of Bantam came to and end because their novels got me through junior high and high-school.
Kellie SantaFe is a woman that runs Fairy Land. She truly believes in fairy's and dresses like a nymph. Intro Logan Sinclair, nephew of the former owners and an engineer who does not believe in the mystical little beings.
With mishap's and magical mayhem afoot(maybe), Kellie eventually brings Logan around to her way of thinking.
I loved this book when I first read it and pull it out at least once a year to re-read it. That's at least fifteen years and running and I still haven't gotten tired of it yet. It's that good.
