Why Do Animals Hibernate? is aligned to the Common Core State Standards for English/Language Arts, addressing Literacy.RI.1.4 and Literacy.L.1.4. Large color photographs of dens, burrows, caves, and hibernating creatures along with narrative nonfiction text engagingly explain the world of hibernation. This book should be paired with “Good Night, Learning About Hibernation" (9781448887767) from the Rosen Common Core Readers Program to provide the alternative point of view on the same topic.
Genre: Informational Grade: K-1 This is an awesome book for young students who love animals and are building their reading skills. The words are in an easily read format, along with simple but real photographs of animals as they describe hibernation. I remember learning about concepts like this when I was around this age and absolutely loving to learn and read about them. Any book with animals involved had me hooked, including informational books like this.
This book is good for kindergarten classed, to incorperate science into your read alouds! This is a great book to meet the needs of both science and ELAR TEKS. The book went through why animal hibernate and used good examples to show how animals hibernate as well.
