Secrets. Lies. Deception. For the past six years, Samantha Hunt has lived with the belief that the untimely death of her parents was the result of an unfortunate accident—that by the cruel hand of fate, she had been left an orphan. But it was a lie, a terrible lie told to her by those who wanted to keep her in the dark. And the truth... when revealed, will change her life and haunt her forever.

Suddenly plagued by a series of events which find her in danger and in need of a savior, Samantha is repeatedly rescued by the mysterious and elusive Shadow—a stranger who seems to know more about her past and the tragedy which befell her family, than she does. Drawn to him despite the antagonism she feels whenever in his presence, Samantha soon discovers that Shadow is not what he appears to be. Determined to learn his true identity and why he has come to Mystery Falls, the small town in which she has spent all of her seventeen years, Samantha not only uncovers the secrets he refuses to share, but also the truth about her own past. A truth which forces her to acknowledge that things are not always as they seem, and sometimes, not even those close to you can be trusted.

Resolved to seeking justice for the unwarranted death of her parents, Samantha embarks on a journey which brings her perilously close to her own demise. Can Shadow use his angel powers to save her yet again, or this time, will he be too late.

This book is cute! C-U-T-E CUTE! I love a book with drama, and the whodunit scenario! I felt certain parts dragged on, and some of the characters were not completely necessary... But I understand why they were there for a scene, or to develop a dramatic issue. Here is my pro/con section:

Pro:
Angel romance, with no sex. THANK YOU! Not every YA novel with romance needs sex! I am always one for a romp, but this book was only made better because it was NOT sex related. I loved how they both had to remain celebet (spelling?).

I could seriously relate to Mia and Sam as friends. Mia is SO my friend Kristyn who looks through my phone and harrasses me about romance and other things. At least she did until I got married.

The book was not TOO long. There is nothing worse than book that drones on and on and on and on (get the picture?) about stuff that has no relevance. This book, it doesn't do that. Just enough of the WHOO and not too much of the Blah.

Con:
Car Park. I saw this a few times and it seems small and kinda dumb, but NO ONE uses that in America. It is a parking lot, pahkin' space( North East Coast Accent), or parking garage. Never a car park. This bothered me, and it sounds really bad, but I was irked.

A lot of BIG words. Not many YA know what astute means and I do not know a lot of people who use words like that. I have a teenager and I showed her a few of the words and she looked at me funny. There were also a few words that even I did not know. Thank GOD For Kindle Dictionary.

Overall this book was a fun read! The only reason it did not get 5 stars was because it did not grab me. The first part of it was a lot of stuff I don't believe is possible.. Like falling in love based on sight. Some people do, I do not. I also think there was a tad too much of fawning over men. I am not a fawner, I do not believe would fawn. No man is THAT worth it.

That is all I got. Good book! Highly recommend it! Just careful with the wordage and try to ignore the car park nuance. I am that picky.

“Shadow speaking to Samantha "So... arrogant, egotistical, annoying, conceited, self-centered. Yeah, I got it the first time you said it.

Oh my! I am in love with this book. I couldn't put it down and had to read until it was finished. Now, one thing that people really don't know about me is how much I love angel story lines, especially avenging angel stories. The Mystery Falls series is going to become one of my favorites very quickly.

I loved the characters in this book! Sam was amazing, she showed such tremendous strength in the face of adversity. My heart hurt for the young girl who lost her parents and was left in the care of her uncle who adored her but a cousin and aunt that couldn't stand her. Shadow was such a unique character! Attractive, stoic, demanding and encompassing are just a few of the words I would use to describe him. I even understand why he was so cold to Sam on their second meeting, after all he isn't supposed to love her.

The plot was great. It was paced just right and there were even a couple of twists that I wasn't expecting. I was glad that this wasn't one of those anti-climatic books where it just goes on and on. It was intriguing enough that I cannot help but want to read book #2 immediately.

The cover looks like someone took a picture of the woods where Sam used to run to for solitude. I couldn't imagine a better cover for the book. Hands down, Marilyn Phillips is an author whose books you really need to watch out for! They will take you by storm and you won't want to put them down!

First let me say that I love this cover. So stunningly beautiful. The blue color is so amazing. And the feather, oh yes, you will understand that when you read it for sure!

The characters were really great in this book.
Samantha is a character that lacks confidence for sure. She is a bit shy. But at the same time, she questions everything. She wants to know what's what. She's persistent and a bit stubborn. She gets her answers even when no one will answer her questions.
Shadow, cloaked in a bit of mystery. He's very interesting. He's arrogant and self-centered for sure. But he is also caring. He frustrated me quite a bit during this book and I wanted to beat him over the head with a stick, I have to say. He's very swoon worthy.
Their chemistry is awesome. It's steamy and seductive and certainly pulls you and makes you want to keep reading.

The storyline is very unique. I love the mystery that surrounds it. I love all the twists and turns and no knowing what was going to happen next. It kept me interested and intrigued.

Philips writing style lends so much credit to the story. It flows and she creates a world that is captivating.

If you're looking for something that will pull you in and keep you embraced in the story, then this debut is it. Go pick it up, you won't be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars from me.

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.
Samantha lost her parents in a horrible accident at a young age and went to live with her uncle. Will in the woods behind her house she runs into a bear, as she is about to pass out she sees a figure on the rocks above her. Shadow knows he shouldn't be near Samantha but he is drawn to their connection. Ever time Sam is in trouble Shadow seems to be there to help her, but denies it in public. He is hiding something and Sam is determined to find the truth. This was a sweet love story with added mystery. A little slow getting started but once fully into the story line I had to know what happened, can't wait to read the next book.

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I enjoy angel story lines, there are a few different versions and that being said this one did not disappoint. It was a new(ish) plot but it was very well written with little twists and turns here and there just to keep it interesting. The story was well developed and the characters well written. I LOVE Samantha and Shadow, Mia is hysterical and I really liked the way Claire ended up. I'm really interested in finding out what happens next for Samantha and Shadow.

Mystery Falls had me hooked by the 5th paragraph in the prologue with Shadow.

“I’m drawn to her in a way that I have never been drawn to
anyone throughout my existence. And right now, there’s nowhere else I would rather be, than here, watching her.

First I have to give a huge thank you to Marilyn Phillips for giving me the opportunity to read Mystery Falls. Second a another huge thank you to Nomis Paranormal Palace for having this wonderful book on her blog. Because of them I have now found another amazing author I look forward to reading more books from. I was hooked right from the beginning and not even half way through I had to buy a copy for my Nook.

Samantha but known to her friends as Sam thinks it is her fault for her parents death and have been living with the guilt ever since then. All she wants to do for six years is hide from the world, that is until she meets the mysterious stranger known as Shadow. She knows that he knows about her parents death, but is keeping her in the dark. I loved Samantha’s character. She will do what ever it takes to find out more about what happened to her parents.

Shadow is the mysterious new kid in school and has feelings for Samantha but at one point is a snot nose brat to her, but he does have his reasons. At the beginning he keeps her at arms length because he knows he will end up hurting her, but he seems he can not stay away from her. He is always right there when something bad happens and ends up rescuing her. He is a tad arrogant but is so sweet. The things he says and does for Sam are beautiful. He is definitely swoon worthy that had my heart pounding, skin tingling and stomach fluttering.

Their chemistry together is beautiful and steamy. The first time they meet it is intense as he knows everything about her. Shadow can stalk me anytime. Their time together is sweet and can be bumpy at times. I will admit I did want to beat him over the head a few times. But it always worked out with me wanting to root for them to have a HEA.

Marilyn Phillips has a beautiful writing voice and is an outstanding storyteller. I never knew what was going to happen next. Love all the twist and turns. The surprises just kept getting better through out the book, especially towards the end. I even shed a few tears in the graveyard scene. Do not want to give any spoilers away just know I was shocked and never saw it coming.

Marilyn Phillips is a phenomenal author not to be missed. Mystery Falls is perfect and a keeper for me that I will re-read over and over again. My review does not do good on how amazing her debut book is. Really you need to read it, to appreciate a good writer that in my opinion is right up there with some amazing world known authors. I would for sure highly recommend Mystery Falls and I am eagerly waiting for more. I honestly do not think I would ever get tired of reading about Sam and Shadow. Love the beautiful Mystery Falls cover and look forward to the next cover.

My friend, Naomi, at Nomi’s Paranormal Palace has great taste in books. So when I saw she had read this book and had a terrific review, it cinched my choice to sign up for the book tour when it came around with Supagurl Tours I was definitely on board. I am really very happy that I did! Angel books are usually a little harder for me to get into, even though I usually love them when I do. This book turned out to be a terrific story and it grabbed me right from the beginning.

While walking in the woods one day, seventeen year old Sam comes upon two creatures a bear and a man. Strangely the bear scared her more than the man; even after he recites everything he knows about her and says he has been studying her. Um, hello?!?! Studying?!?!? Repeat, hello?!?! And she’s attracted not concerned. Then the mystery guy shows up for the first day of school and pretends he doesn’t know her when she confronts him to thank him for saving her from the bear. Yet, she is still attracted.

These types of instances defy logic, but you just know they are leading up to something good. So while you are inwardly throwing out a few “WTH”s, it all just feels right and you find yourself thinking the same as Sam. Yeah, he’s not someone to worry about, he’s definitely someone to fawn after. And his name is Shadow.

Shadow is arrogant and conceited and a whole laundry list of similar adjectives. And he’s hot. And he is so head over heels in love with Sam that everything else seems to be forgiven. Yep, I definitely found myself falling for Shadow, too! On top of that, the descriptions of him in his angel form are just beautiful and he is definitely a leading man not to be missed. His arrogant nature turns out to be quite endearing, and it was no time at all before I fell for his sly grin.

Sam is your average teenage girl. I mean, other than her parents both died in a car crash and she went to live with her aunt, uncle and cousin. Then her aunt up and left, leaving just Uncle Mike and cousin Claire with Sam. She’s a bit shy at times, but everything about Shadow rocks her world and has her head over feet. I like Sam. I like her easy and loving friendship with bff gal pal, Mia.

There are some things in this book that seem to happen a little easily and a bit conveniently. However, it all seems to work and it goes with the flow. There are a lot of toe curling kisses in these pages, that’s for sure. Another viable name for this book would be “Best Kiss Scenes with an Angel…Ever or something like that. I mean seriously, that guy Shadow has the skills on lockdown! Any time he wants to come on over to my place, he can definitely lay some of those liplocking maneuvers on me!

The mystery in this book comes about in the form of why Shadow the angel is in the town of Mystery Falls in the first place. He is a bit stern with Sam about her private eye tactics, and she doesn’t listen to advice very well. All in all it adds up to a wonderful ride of a story, and I found myself not wanting to put the book down each time I picked it up.

This is a beautiful love story where opposites do attract!! I really enjoy novels about Angels and Humans and this was definitely another great read. It wasn’t action packed (no fight scenes); it has a more romantic storyline, revolving around the growing relationship of Samantha and Shadow. However it has a little bit of mystery about it too.

After a tragic accident which resulted in the death of her parents when she was 11, Sam moved in with her Uncle Mike, Aunt Carole and Cousin Claire. Sam and Claire were like sisters prior to the accident, but after Aunt Carole moves away, the girls have a falling out. Sam becomes quite withdrawn and her only friend is Mia, who 5 years later, is still her best friend.

Sam is a very shy character who lacks confidence. Most of the decisions she makes in regards to Shadow are usually encouraged by Mia. She is always making plans for Sam and giving her the courage to act on her feelings.

Shadow is a very strong character and in one scene Sam describes him as “arrogant, egotistical, annoying, conceited, self-centered... He, of course, is all of those things, but he is also very caring, especially towards Sam, not that she always knows about it. He appears to be moody every time Sam tries to speak to him and he is able to stir her emotions so easily!! Even I was getting frustrated with Shadow at times when he manipulated her feelings. Ahh... Men!!

Mystery Falls is an easy read and I was absorbed into the book so quickly that I couldn’t put it down. I love the cover, the mysterious blue of the falls and the feather (which gets a mention in the book). Marilyn has done a fantastic job writing her first novel; it is a great start to the series. I am eager to see where things go next!!

Oh, be still my beating heart! This is another book I failed to read and review due to illness back in December/January. I finally finished it this afternoon...a one day read, because I. Could. Not.Pry. My. Eyes. From. The. Screen. This was definitely a paranormal romance, well written, romantic, and definitely swoon worthy!!! Even at my age, I swooned like a teenie bopper! Now stop it, I'm not dead yet!

Anyway, the main character, Samantha, is a typical teen, with a truly sad past. She definitely had a mind of her own and spoke her mind without hesitation. Shadow, the Avenging Angel, had become infatuated with Samantha and tried to warn her away from himself, but there was a powerful and supernatural attraction that seemed to be Fate pulling them together. I could feel that power as I read and enjoyed the storyline from start to finish. WHERE IS THE SECOND BOOK? Thank you Marilyn...very enjoyable!

Mystery Falls was a pleasant surprise for my first angel book. I've always been a vamps and wolves kind of girl but Shadow, the main character, made me a little more interested in his kind of "monster." I loved the pacing of this book, it kept me reading to find out what would happen next and there are some cool plot twists too. Ms. Phillips is a wonderful story weaver with good insight into her characters psyches and what they want. I wish there were parts told from Shadow's point of view a little more but he was very good as conveying his feelings and this kept him real. I can't wait for book two, Mystery Rises!!! Bring it on Shadow! (What a cool name by the way!)

Angel paranormal books have got to be my favourite books to read and this book does not disappoint. I could not put it down, which does frustrate me cause once I've finished I get annoyed as I don't have anything to read luckily for me this book has a sequel! I love shadow and Sam, as soon as I finished this book I had to pick the next one up to find out what happened with their love story, they so need to be together and stay together.

I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to read the next in the series! This was one of those stories where, once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. The love story between the 2 main characters was beautiful & gentle. The plot twists were not obvious and caught me by surprise. If you enjoy reading this genre, I'd say this story is one of the best.

Before Reading:
I was very excited about reading Mystery Falls. I had heard about the book from the author Marilyn Philips who is a great blogger friend. As soon as I found out that this frequent commenter on my blog had a book I knew as soon as I could I would read her book.

Plot:
Samantha Hunts life changed the day her parents died six years ago. Now living with her cousin who also used to be her best friend and her Uncle Sam feels more alone than ever.

Sitting in deep thought in the woods is Sam’s only reprieve from her loneliness. One day while she’s in the forest a bear shows up, facing death Sam gets ready for the end and passes out. When Sam wakes up, surprised she’s alive she wakes up to a hot guy claiming to be her savior. All of that would be great if only the mystery guy wasn’t so infuriating and egotistical.

When Sam leaves the woods thinking she’d never see the guy again she’s surprised to find him at her school the next day, surrounded by non-other than her cousin. When Sam goes to thank the stranger he denies ever knowing her and embarrasses her in front of the entire school.

Meeting after meeting with Shadow and Sam butting heads but falling for each other slowly makes everything more difficult, especially when Sam realizes Shadows deep dark secret. When Shadows identity is laid out the two fell more and more in love a secret about Samantha’s past is revealed to her. The truth about her parents death that’s been hidden from her is has been found out and Sam now needs to decide if she’s going to confront her past or run away from it.

Characters:
Samantha is definitely a smart character who was easy to love and like. She’s a social outcast but still cares what people think. She’s definitely pig headed in her ideals who’s strong willed and opinionated.

Shadow is an egotistical angel who is loyal, strong, and caring about the people in his life. While he is a dick in a lot of the book by patronizing Sam and hiding things he’s still an extremely swoon worthy guy.

Mia is honestly the best and most loyal friend ever. While pushy and sometimes rude she’s a great and supportive friend.

POV:
Samantha is the only perspective we get besides the first mini chapter which is told from Shadows perspective.

After Reading:
Wow Mystery Falls was absolutely amazing. The interactions between Shadow and Sam were freaking hilarious because Shadow was always getting right under Sam’s skin and she’s such a bad liar but super reactionary made their interactions extremely hilarious. Mystery Falls was a great story that I really liked it. Mystery Falls definitely had a lot of twists and turns with all the different mysteries and secrets surrounding the small town of Mystery Falls. I really really wish there was more of this story so I am crossing my fingers that Marilyn writes more!

Dislikes:
There was only one problem I had with the story and that was the fact that the kissing wasn’t as in descriptive as I would have liked.

Recommendation:
I would recommend Mystery Falls for readers who love young adult novels, angels, and lots of cute romance.

Review originally written for

Do not pick up this book right before you go to bed because once you start, it is difficult to put down. After working and doing my afternoon/nightly activities, I would read the book about an hour before I normally went to bed. Big mistake because it couldn’t stop reading at an hour. I had to stay up because I couldn’t leave Marilyn Phillips story. I needed to know what happens.

After being saved multiple times by Shadow, the new guy in town, Samantha is drawn to him, especially when he reveals information about her and her past. Samantha knows Shadow is holding back secrets and is determined to find out what they are. She soon discovers his secrets and the truth about the death of her parents. Now Samantha must try and stop Shadow from his mission, but will it destroy her relationship with him?

Mystery Falls fits in perfectly with the young adult genre. Lovers of the Twilight series, Fallen series, and Hush, Hush series will thoroughly enjoy it. The book features a romance story between a human and supernatural creature–in this case an angel. Instead of having the female protagonist incapable of independent thought after she meets a boy, Phillps creates Samantha to be an indpendent thinker that can survive even without Shadow. In fact, Samantha even puts herself in danger in order to prevent someone from getting killed.

Phillips style is easy to read and very engaging. She captures her character’s emotions and eloquently expresses them. She draws out the mystery and suspense and lets readers into the world of angels one step at a time. Although readers aren’t taken into any angelic areas, she satisfies readers main questions. Even though she answers the main questions, I still want to know more about Shadow and his history. I look forward to reading the next book and finding out more.

The only negative thing I can say about the book, is that Shadow confused me a little in the beginning. He kept coming up to Samantha and saying that she should stay away from him even though she actually was trying to avoid him and didn’t meet with him on several occasions when he requested the meeting. I guess Shadow should have said that Samantha should like/love him because he already knew how she felt.

I recommend this book to young adults that love supernatural romance. Phillips doesn’t get explicit with Samantha and Shadow’s relationship. It’s just a bunch of making out. Anything more would be an angel/human no-no.

Read FULL Review At:

Mystery Falls is the first instalment in a new series by Marilyn Phillips! When I was first approached about reviewing this book, I was immediately hooked by the synopsis- me and Y.A. Romances go together like peanut butter and jelly! I eagerly accepted with high expectations for this novel- and I'm telling you, I was not at all disappointed!

I have to warn you guys, it is practically impossible not to get addicted by just reading the prologue. The novel dives right into the good stuff (not in a rushed kind of way....more like a "Oh-my-Gawd YES" kind of way)!

Samantha is a really likeable heroine (and we all know our fair share of unlikeable ones). For years she's been living with the guilt of her parents' deaths. Apart from Mia, Samantha doesn't interact with her peers and she is stuck living with her Uncle Jim *cheers * and her cousin (who now hates her) Claire *boo.* So in other words, it's safe to say Samantha's life is in a pretty bad place, that is until one day, Shadow appears...

I quickly fell for Shadow's character! Not only is he incredibly good looking but he is also egotistical, sweet, arrogant, and loving- in other words, he's flippin' perfection !! He always seems to be there to save Samantha from trouble, and he manages to make me swoon with just his presence! He's definitely been added to my "Boys I Wish Were Real" list.....which, actually, is getting to be quite long.....fictional boys are just so much better ! =D

This book largely focuses on the brewing romance between Samantha and Shadow (and obviously, her trying to figure out who, or more importantly what Shadow really is)! Every interaction between these two is jaw dropping awesomeness- you just can't help swooning and sighing over and over again! And then, after spending the duration of the book trying to calm your bookworm lovin' hormones down, you'll have to deal with the ending that is both sweet and cruel !

Overall I am completely captivated my the world Marilyn Phillips has created- Mystery Falls combines mystery, romance, and sizzling chemistry into one novel that you can't help but devour in one sitting! If you're looking for a hot read for the winter ahead, then get ready, because Mystery Falls is the perfect choice! I am eager and even a little bit desperate for the sequel !!!

I found another epic love story type paranormal book. Wow, just fell in love with Shadow. I really liked the main character too Samantha Hunt, aka Sam. She has gone through a major tragedy, and you really feel for her. I really connected with her, and fell in love with Shadow along with her.

I really loved the love story in this book, but still paranormal, which is what makes it exciting to me. Got to have it.
I won’t say anything that will spoil the book, as it’s great to discover the little mysteries throughout the book like I did.

I have a new book crush, in Shadow. He is a mystery to Sam, and she is determined to find out his secret. He has saved her in several mishaps and has the uncanny ability to find her and help her when it’s needed.
She also finds out about lies that were told her surrounding her parent’s death.

There is plenty of mystery going on, some suspense too. Not much action, but it’s not really needed. It’s an epic love story that really touches your heart. I really liked that their love built up over time. Yes, there is a paranormal development that is the initial attraction, won’t say what, but even then, it built up over time, and I liked that.

When I think of Shadow, I think of Ian Somerhalder, his description fits him, but not just that, the attitude and snarky quirks Ian has on the Vampire Diaries reminds me of how Shadow would act.
This book is really well written too, and guess what? NO CLIFFHANGER!

What a relief to finally read a book, that is just one great story, not a series that will drag on, and on, with cliffhangers. I am not saying this won’t be a series, but it doesn't feel like it. It could I suppose, but just really happy that I was not left hanging. I hate that more than anything.

I highly recommend this book. Anyone who likes romance books will love this, even if you usually do not read paranormal, I believe you would still like it.

5 out of 5 stars for me. Give it a try!

I was provided a copy of this book for my honest review.

The cover of Mystery Falls fits the story perfectly. The woods is an important part of Samantha's life. She spends a lot of time escaping and reflecting while lost among the trees, and it is were she meets Shadow. As mysterious as his name, Shadow saves Samantha's life and enrolls in her school so he can repeatedly show up just when he is needed. While his actions would make him seem like a do-gooder, Shadow's arrogance and ability to mess with Samantha's emotions show that he is more of a bad boy. Dating Samantha's arch enemy--her cousin Claire--while implying that he care about Samantha doesn't give me much good-guy creds either. But as Samantha tries to figure out Shadow's massive mood swings, she discovers a single feather (like the one on the cover) and knows that there is more to this elusive character than meets the eye.

It takes a while to get to the point where Samantha is ready to really talk to Shadow, however, which can get a little frustrating. She goes back and forth about whether she can resist him and her best friend, Mia, is constantly harping at her to date him. While some of Samantha's objections to Shadow are obviously valid (dating your cousin's new boy friend is rarely a good idea), it would have been nice if we would have gotten through them faster or had a couple less.

Oddly enough, I got a Forks-y vibe from this story even though vampires are in no way, shape, or form mentioned. There isn't even a lot of rain. I think it is because of the woods, which, based on its descriptions, seems to be rather dense, and the protective/we're-so-attracted-to-each-other-but-I'm-no-good-for-you attitude Shadow has with Samantha. He's no Edward however. Actually, he's probably Edward Cullen's complete opposite.

Mystery Falls is Marilyn Phillips' first published work and is a solid debut. Even though I would have liked the pacing slightly quicker, it still worked within this story and the element of mystery carried over from Shadow to what really happened to Samantha's family. The urgency between Samantha and Shadow builds excitement for the moment when they finally come to terms with their feelings for one another. Once Shadow's secrets are revealed (some of them were a little easy to guess), Phillips keeps you wanting to know more even as you receive answers to your questions.

I would like to thank the author for giving me this book for an honest review.

Before I start this review, I would just like you to know that I am very picky in what kinds of books I prefer. I don't finish a book I don't like after reading about half of it, and I'm sorry to say I didn't finish this one. This is a review for the 1st half of the book.

When I discovered the author needed reviews for a YA paranormal, I read the book description and the raving reviews and was immediately hooked.
However, I was disappointed at how the book turned out. Here's why:

1. Sam tells of her past with her parents and aunt in the beginning of the book as if reading from a textbook. It is dumped on the readers like the author wanted to get it out of the way so she could carry on with the story.

2. Sam's voice felt like she was telling someone's else's story and I couldn't really connected with her or Shadow. It was more telling than showing.

3.

4. Insta-love. She was thinking she loved him in the first 10 percent of the book.

5.It became boring with the continuous cycle of Shadow telling her to meet her, her not going, seeing him with Clair and vowing to stay away from him (repeat)

6. Important events like were told after they happend loke they were added as a second thought.

7. Claire

These things annoyed like hell and when even though she said she wasn't religious, I was fed up enough to stop reading it completely.
There were some good points to the book like Sam wasn't curious like most MCs, besides point 3 she was smart, the writing was good and Mia was awesome. Still, these things weren't enough to hold my interest and I don't plan on reading the next book. I apologize to the author if I offended her in anyway when she was nice enough to give me both her books for free. Sorry.

Mystery Falls was quite a pleasant surprise. I actually expected the book to be action packed and would have a ton of paranormal theatrics but it was far from it. What I got was a romantic and mysterious story driven by one girl's determination to find the truth, about her life and the guy she loved. And I enjoyed it.

Overall, it was well-written; interesting from start to finish. I liked how elaborate the details were in describing the setting and establishing each character. Samantha was a likable protagonist and I kept rooting for her throughout. I sympathized with her, losing her parents and having to go through her cousin's crap on a daily basis. Thankfully, she had a cool best friend to keep her happy. On a side note, Mia at times turned me off. She could be somewhat pushy and beyond nosy when it came to Samantha and her feelings for Shadow. It was obvious she had her best friend's happiness at heart, but jeez, her pushy mentality was hard for me to tolerate in the majority of the book. So, I was glad when her hands got busy helping Samantha try to unravel the mystery surrounding her parents' supposedly car accident.

That's another thing: the suspense. It was good when the story switched from the romance aspect and onto more serious issues like the death of Samantha's parents. I'm glad Marilyn wrote it that way, because while I enjoyed the intense attraction between the main characters and was curious as to why Shadow was even bothering with Claire when he obviously had feelings for Samantha really baffled me, so it was nice to see how it all turned out. Everything was pretty much wrapped up smoothly.

Like I said before, Mystery Falls was well-written and intriguing. I don't think I've read a book involving angels in a while now so this was a fresh read. I really liked how the story ended as well and cannot wait to get into the second book. If you enjoy young adult romance novels with paranormal and suspenseful elements then you'll certainly like Mystery Falls.

(I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchang for a review).

(This review may contain spoilers).

I'm a bit torn about this book, if I'm completely honest - and I'm going to try to be honest in my reviews.

Although I found that the book was, generally, quite well-writen, I really wasn't keen on Samantha's relationship with Shadow. I found myself growing bored for a lot of the book. I was more interested in Samantha's exchanges with Mia. And it had the whole love-at-first-sight thing that I really don't like.

The mystery around the book was good, but I would have liked it to be a bit longer. It was also fairly obvious who was responsible for and who the death/s Shadow had come to avenge were.

The whole thing with Samantha's father was pretty interesting and I found Claire, Mia and Tom to be interesting and well-developed characters. I do think that Samantha made a lot of poor decisions - and also the fact that she figured out the whole angel thing really quickly. I think there should have been a lot more working out/disbelief at first. I don't think most people would automatically assume a person was a supernatural entity of some kind.

Once the relationship between Samantha and Shadow was established, I did like the book a lot more and found it easier to read. I just think that more time should have been spent on making the relationship believable in the beginning. And not the main focus of every single one of Samantha's thoughts/conversations with her friend.

I did notice several errors in the book - mostly grammatical and punctuation errors. There were also a couple of instances where periods of time were skipped over in the next paragraph, which was a bit confusing at times. There were also a couple of times when other characters' emotions were stated, despite it being from Samantha's POV and written in first person.

I did like Hunter and Celeste's relationship and I would have liked more of them in the book. I do have the second book on my Kindle and I will read it. But I do think there are some things that could be improved.

I really enjoyed this book.It was an easy read and flowed well.I read it in one night because I just had to know how it ended.
Samantha lives with her Uncle Mike and her annoying and malicious cousin Claire, who makes her life a living hell every chance she gets. Samantha lost her parents in an accident when she was 11 years old.A year after moving in with her aunt, uncle and cousin,Sam's aunt leaves.Claire blame's Sam for her mother abandoning her so she does everything to aggravate Sam.
Sam loves to go to the woods to get away and have some peace and quiet, but one day a trip to a her favorite spot almost cots her,her life.Thankfully she is saved from the bear that was about to attack her by a handsome stranger, who refuse to give her his name.To Sam's amazement and horror, this new stranger is now a student at her school. But he acts like his encounter with her never happened. On top of that,he seems to be dating her cousin Claire now.
The new handsome stranger,Shadow, keeps tell Sam he isn't good for her but he keeps showing up every time she is in trouble. They seem to argue every time they meet. Finally he admits who or what he really is but doesn't tell her the real reason he is in Mystery Falls.
Sam has become convinced that her parents' death may not not have been an accident. As Shadow and Sam grow closer he tries to convince her to let it stay in the past and not pursue the truth. But Samantha can't let it rest and continues to seek answers.
Shadow tries to balance his assignment, his secret relationship with Samantha, and deterring her from digging into the past. This is no easy task and things get very haywire as everything comes to a head. Can Shadow keep her from finding out the truth and keep her safe? Can Samantha find the truth without becoming in danger? Is it possible for Sam and Shadow to be together without incurring the wrath of the one who has sent him on this assignment?

Before I started my blog, I hadn't read a single angel book. Flash forward two years, and I have read quite a few of angel books. Personally, I enjoy the angel books that are heavier on the romance and lighter (or free of) religious elements. If you are like me, then you will LOVE Mystery Falls. It is a love story through and through and the angel elements are surprising fresh and different. I really enjoyed Mystery Falls.

My favorite thing about Sam was how inquisitive she was. Plus, she was an awful liar, which I found really endearing for some reason. She always wanted to understand why. She didn't take things at face value, and when Shadow wasn't giving her the answers she wanted, she found out the answers on her own. A lot of people may think that she is stubborn, but I thought she was persistent and I absolutely loved her.

Shadow was probably the most interesting version of an angel that I have ever read. He is innately good and really cares about Sam, but he seemed edgier than your average angel, which I really loved. And I love him with Sam. The idea of them together, and I am trying to anticipate any and all roadblocks they may encounter because I am super intrigued to see what the next book is going to hold.

The story of Mystery Falls was deeper and more involved than I initially thought it would be. I loved some of the twists and turns Marilyn Phillips threw at us. The writing is great, the romance is the once in a lifetime, true love, soul mates stuff, and I just couldn't get enough of Mystery Falls. It didn't end as a cliffhanger either! But it did end making me really, really want to read the next book.

The blog tour and the author interview can be found at my blog at .

This book was a fast read. The pages turned literally by themselves. It had the right amount of romance, suspense, and adventure. Yes. It's another one of those books I love about angels and human. An angel is a magnificent being. ;)

Sam lives with her Uncle Mike and her Cousin Claire, after the tragic accident that took both of her parents' lives. One day, she meets a boy in the woods, whom she can't take her eyes off of. The boy called Shadow also shows up at her high school. At first, Sam calls Shadow arrogant, egotistical, annoying, conceited, self-centered. But later one, she found his caring side.

Shadow came to Mystery Falls to fulfill an angel's quest. And it doesn't necessarily involve Sam. But Shadow and Sam grew close, even when Shadow fully knows that he shouldn't. You know, the whole thing where angels can't be with humans. Because it breaks their laws. Yeah. But true love can conquer all!

Out of all of these angel and human books, the ending was quite entertaining. I was smiling with relief. Such a great read! I definitely recommend this book. ;)

Rate: (1-10): 8.5 stars!

I received a free copy of this novel for my honest review. Mystery Falls is an amazing love story full of mystery and suspense. I’m not a girly girl, so I was thrilled with Sam and Shadow’s love/hate relationship. There’s also the backdrop story, Sam has spent years blaming herself for her parents deaths. Now in light of information she gets from her best friend, she searches for the truth. The truth that my put her in grave danger. I really liked the fact that the romance aspect was pretty realistic, it didn’t run smoothly, there were lots of bumps in the road to overcome. This is one book that has it all, mystery, romance and a paranormal aspect. Beautifully written with an wonderful character development, I look forward to reading more from Ms. Phillips!

The story is very very slow to get going, for a long time I was wondering if I was gonna give up with it.... but I am glad I kept going as it ended up being a pretty good story in the end.

Not a book full of action, this heavy on the romance side of pararomance (or whatever the genre is called), I still managed to get hooked on the relationship.

My other issue is that Samantha is a pretty annoying girl and I wanted to give her a slap now and then to bring her to her senses.

The book was good enough for me to add book 2 to my TBR list.

This was a cute, quick read about an angel named Shadow and a human named Samantha who's lost her parents a year previously due to an accident. Angels and humans are not allowed to be together, but these two want to figure out a way to defy the odds.

Recommendation: It was cute but certainly nothing earth shaking or amazing out it.

Terrible. Couldn't see it through. The main character is annoying, her love interest an ass and her best friend overzealous. Also, lots of character clichees and most importantly, a missing plot, at least until the first quarter after which I quit.

So, what can I say? I really love the book. It's well written and we can feel the chemistry between Sam and Shadow. And now? I'm starting Mystery Rises! I need to know what happens next!
