Darkness Splintered

I have been a fan of this series since the beginning but it really does get better and better with every instalment. Risa has been on a very steep learning curve when it comes to her adeh abilities but she is still discovering more that she can do and I'm loving seeing her character blossom. I've also enjoyed every minute of her relationship with reaper Azriel, they have some issues to work through in this instalment but they come out the other side stronger than ever and I was so pleased to see them on in such a good place relationship wise.
Risa may be confident about her feelings for Azriel but the rest of her life is very much in flux. Her best friend Tao is still struggling to gain control of the fire elemental that he consumed to save Illiana's life and they're facing the very real risk of losing him forever. Both Risa and Illiana are also dealing with the after effects of Lucian's actions in the last book. As if that wasn't enough Risa is being hounded on all sides by people who want her to find the keys to hell for them, she has her father, the Raziq, a crazed dark sorceress and Madeline Hunter - the terrifying head of the vampire council - on her tail and they ALL want the keys for their own reasons. Risa is working hard to try and protect the keys but it isn't easy when she is up against so many opponents.
This story was quite a hard hitting one, not as dark as the last book but there are some very surprising occurrences. Madeline Hunter seems to have completely lost the plot, there has been no love lost between her and Risa since the beginning but it looks like things are reaching the point of no return and Risa may end up having to face off against this incredibly powerful enemy. I'm sad that Darkness Falls is the last book in the series because I'm going to miss this world and the characters when I finish it but at the same time I can't wait to see how things play out for Risa and her friends.

Unlike the previous five books, Darkness Splintered doesn't have a secondary story. Well, unless you count Tao's problem. It is all about the keys. And those tedious threats.
The Raziq are threatening her.
Her father is threatening her.
Hunter is threatening her.
One of these parties act on it and one dies.
And there is still a shape-shifting dark sorceress who always seems to be a couple of steps ahead of them.
Almost the whole book is about Risa investigating various places to find the stolen second key. I was afraid I would have to wait too long for her to come to her senses regarding the reaper, but that was resolved in the first quarter of the story. Still, Azriel appears much later than I would prefer. What I appreciate the most here is that even though there is some angst, the focus is on the search and their problems rather than their relationship. That is way better because that way I can appreciate the rare tender moments more.
The way this book ends might be frustrating to some, but I'd rather have them continue the search for the remaining key than for Risa to be in a position to refuse Hunter. She is not ready to confront her just yet. For me it is refreshing to see a heroine who has real problems when it comes to her enemies. And when you think about just how powerful the Raziq, Risa's father and Hunter are, it would be ridiculous if she managed to deal with it all easily. 2.5 stars - Spoilers
I kind of liked it but I also kind of hated it. The various characters and relationships were fun to read about but the lack of progression in certain story arcs was extremely frustrating.
-In book 1, the heroine (Risa) was forced to find the three keys to the gates of hell. This was book six and how many keys did she have? None. She found two but the silly cow lost them to the bad guys. What was even more frustrating was that she didn't actually know who the bad guys were. So yea, the bad guys are still a mystery even though this is book six and as far as I know there's only one book left.
I guess there'll be enough page time in the next book for Risa to find/defeat the bad guys and locate the keys, but will there be enough page time for the many other story threads that still need to be sorted out? I highly doubt all of them can be addressed and resolved in a satisfying way. On top of everything else, Risa needs to kill Madeline Hunter, sort out the Razan, deal with the reapers, and help Tao with his power. I have a feeling that the last book will be overly action packed, not to mention rushed.
-What's what: Risa banished Azriel (her angel/reaper/love interest/protector person) for betraying her. What did Azriel do that was so bad? He saved her life and bought her back from the dead. Which was actually nice of him but by bringing her back he turned her into a reaper, and stopped her from having any chance at future lives. So yea, I guess that was actually a dick move. Naturally, Risa was still pissed at him and was devastated by his betrayal. But like most heroines she eventually forgave and forgot, and they finally got together properly. So yay, no more relationship angst!
Like the previous five books, Risa's crazy-evul-dad threatened her and her friends if she didn't hurry up and find the keys to hell. The crazy-vampire-cow, Madeline Hunter, also issued Risa with the same threat. So yea, Risa was basically doing the exact same thing she'd been doing for the past five books.
-The majority of the book was spent with Risa visiting various places for clues about the keys, whilst there she got attacked by different things/creatures/people. It was the same cycle over and over again. By the end, Risa was no closer to owning the keys.
-Risa was a decent enough character. She wasn't very good at investigating and fighting, but I guess since she wasn't trained in any of those areas that was realistic. It just made for irritating reading because Risa couldn't hold her own and it just seemed like she was going around in circles � it didn't make for thrilling reading.
-Why the fuck can't Risa have a full night's sleep or finish eating without being interrupted by some fucker?! Ugh.
-Risa got used and abused way too much - Hunter, her dad, the Razan, Hunter's enemies, the reapers. She literally had no power or control over her own desires and actions.
-Some things were quite confusing� Like who the bad guys were, there were too many names involved and the fact that one was supposed to be a shifter who was posing as other people only made things even more confusing. Also, the different spells/magic/warehouses/gates made very little sense to me.
-Risa still made no progress by the end, she just ran around failing at everything. She was bloody useless. The only useful thing she did was manage to kill her dad and that was just done in the heat of the moment.
All in all, it wasn't a terrible read. I liked Risa and Azriel sorting out their relationship but everything else was rather irritating in it's repetitiveness and slowness.

90% of the book was very frustrating.. Frustrating to the point of annoying. Most of the dialogue that takes up space is pretty much pointless. I rather there was something happening and the description of it..
Suffice to say, I am glad that the next book is the last in the series. This story has been dragging on for too long...

As a long time Keri Arthur fan it kills me to say this but the further I get in this series, the less I find myself enjoying it. Thank goodness there’s only one book left because I’ve been seriously contemplating calling it quits. The original Dark Angels storyline of “find the keys, save the world� seems to have gotten lost somewhere along the way amidst all of Risa’s relationship woes, problems with the vampire council and friendship complications. The fact that the heroine seems to fall into the same trap time-and-time again doesn’t exactly help matters either. The quality of Arthur’s writing and her knack for delivering non-stop action are undeniable which makes Darkness Splintered a worthwhile read even if the plot is a little too over-the-top for my tastes.
I know this is Urban Fantasy so the romance is supposed to be secondary but Risa and Azriel’s relationship is important to the overall plot line which kind of sends readers mixed messages in my opinion. At the beginning of this book, the two main characters aren’t exactly on the best of terms after what happened in the previous installment. Actually, that’s an understatement, Risa BANISHED Azriel in Darkness Unmasked. Now that’s pretty extreme and yet, after only a few chapters all is magically forgiven and they don’t even really talk it out. Also, there’s practically no sex in this novel, which again is to be expected, but then there’s this one, ridiculously orgasmic scene where they merge energies in order to sneak Azriel into Raziq territory but don’t actually have sex. I just felt like the author often jumped from point A to point C while completely skipping over those all-important middle parts.

The plot line is beginning to feel like a bad episode of Maury. Risa is preggo with Azriel’s baby but she banished him after he saved her life by turning her into a dark angel. But thank goodness she was already knocked-up, otherwise her ex Lucian, who also murdered her mother, would have raped her to try to impregnate her like he did with her BFF Ilianna. Then there’s poor Tao who’s still struggling to gain control over the fire element that he consumed in order to save his friends and don’t even get me started on the Madeline Hunter side story! The drama seems to get crazier and crazier with each new installment which has caused the main plot (i.e. finding the keys) to unfortunately, get lost in the shuffle.
Darkness Splintered is an enjoyable read just so long as you take the story with a grain of salt. I’m still holding out hope that the conclusion to this series will make trudging through the last few installments worthwhile. This definitely wasn’t one of my favourite books by Keri Arthur.

I think by now everyone knows that Keri Arthur is one of my all time favourite authors and has been for many years.
It is because of Riley Jenson's books that I eagerly dug into the Dark Angel series and I was excited to read about Risa as an adult... I was not disappointed...
We see Risa building up a relationship with Azriel, her reaper protector, as we progress through these novels, her target is to find the keys to prevent the gates of hell opening... We know she failed in the last book and now she is trying to stop the dark sorceress from using the 2nd key. Risa's father, wants Risa to 'speed' up her search so he places an energy band around Mirri's neck (Mirri is one of Risa's friends partner), this will tighten after a time and kill her. So once again, Risa is against the clock - with the knowledge from the last book that Risa has banned Azriel from her life!
About 5 or 6% in and I was jumping!!! A little further and I was sobbing!!!
I adore this series, I am actually enjoying Keri's writing more than I did many moons ago, I love her easy style and her imagination that captures me and gets me page turning...
I am gutted that the next book is going to be the last Risa book, but as they say, all good things come to an end... I need to know what is going to happen, obviously, but also with Tao, I am curious about him but worried too, ... I look forward to grabbing the last storyline of Risa and her friends!

Risa Jones has lost the second key to heaven and hell, and the pressure is really on her from everyone to find it. Now there is a new ultimatum from her father: get it back or her friends are dead. Madeline Hunter has also been driven crazy by the death of her lover and is becoming increasingly unpredictable. With one key to go and a threat on her friends' lives, it is really a race against the clock.
Thank everything. Darkness Splintered is finally the book that starts to deal with the problem at hand. There aren't any side trips down murder lane. There was some relationship stuff, but like I said in the last book, I don't care about that, the characters are as much a part of the story as the story is. It is really unfortunate that this book felt like it was just stalling for more time for the last book in the series. Apparently 6 books weren't enough to find three objects.
I also had some growing problems with the relationship between Azriel and Risa. Risa is hellbent on thinking the worst of everyone, and Azriel gets caught up in that. To be honest, I can't blame the woman. Everyone throughout the entire series has just been using her. And Azriel did make a big mistake. Yet she still believes that everything matters to everyone more than she does while simultaneously looking after others more than she looks after herself. I understand that this dynamic can be frustrating to others, but I really enjoyed it. I just love her relationship with Azriel. They're such a great unit when they are happy together.
I officially like the couple more than the story, though. I honestly don't care about the keys or Madeline Hunter or any of it. I just want more Azriel and Risa. I don't care about the constant unending threats on her and her friends' and family's lives. It is repetitive and boring and repetitive and boring. I just like the relationship. It is the only thing keeping me going.

DARKNESS SPLINTERED picks right up after the events of DARKNESS UNMASKED. Risa is in a pretty bad state. Her father of course jumps right in and threatens the life of her friends so she has no time to wallow in her misery and jumps right back into the fray of finding the keys. There is plenty of action, suspense, danger and romance at every turn of the page.
I was disappointed in Risa as the book started. She not only put herself in danger but also the baby she is carrying. Thankfully her pity party doesn't last long. I am so over Risa's Dad, Madeline Hunter and all the others threatening her and using her to get what they want. I can not wait until she opens up a can of you know what and puts them all in their place. I just KNOW that it is coming. (It has to right?) The state of Risa and Azriel's relationship was in ruins at the end of DARKNESS UNMASKED, I don't want to give spoilers away but I will say that I felt how hurt Risa was and I am happy with how things played out in DARKNESS SPLINTERED.

No matter what Risa does, she still can't catch a break. She's lost the second key to the gate to hell and due to some shocking revelations and unfavorable circumstances, she's banished her Reaper protector from her side. Not the best of moves on her part, but a hurting heart doesn't always make for the most sensible mind. All she wants to do is sleep for a month and forget all this ever happened to her, but everyone else seems to have a different idea. The relationship between Risa and AZRIEL both makes my heart equally hurt and soar depending on where things are at with them. There is just so much emotion between them that it's palpable, and yet most of the time it seems like there is miles of empty space in their way. He isn't human, and while I do feel for Risa as it must be hard to not feel or hear the things she need from him, I still think she needs to accept the fact that she can't judge him by her standards. She really seems to have blinders on when it comes to his actions, and honestly has acted rather mule headed only seeing his determination to his duty, not everything else. I have to admit that the ending of the previous book just about killed me with Risa banishing him. I mean not only do we find out she's pregnant with his child, but then have to cope with her sending him away. It was devastating, so I have to admit, I largely went into this book the trepidation. I just wasn't sure how I would feel about things without him around even if I mostly assumed it couldn't be permanent. Their relationship has caused me a lot of angst, and while I won't spoil things in this book, I will say that the angst was far from over, and probably won't be until the very end of the series.
Sometimes this series really amazes me. Each installment always seems so action packed and the pacing is excellent. And yet when I look back over the book and then the series as a whole, there seems to be a lack of overall forward momentum. I mean the main series arc is the quest for the keys, with other things thrown in there as well of course. Yet, this is the 6th installment, and Risa still does not have a single key. She's lost 2 to outside forces, but still. I guess I just would have assumed the girl would have been able to catch some sort of break by this point. Don't get me wrong, the books are incredibly entertaining, and this lack of overall series arc momentum doesn't slow things down, it's just that I'm rather surprised that it's working I guess. As in I'm questioning why this hasn't frustrated me. I realize this probably sounds ridiculous as in why would I want to go looking for issues that aren't really there, but it's just something that has stuck out to me. I guess the biggest reason is that I'm not sure how long the series is supposed to be, and unless it's supposed to be a very long one, there's a whole lot of stuff that will have to be jammed into just a few books. Considering the action and danger to Risa already seems borderline insane at this pace, I can't imagine it getting worse, but only time will tell.
I think the biggest indicator of a phenomenal author is one that can write book after book that keeps the reader coming back for more, and this surely fits Keri Arthur. It's pretty much a guarantee at this point that I can pick up any one of her books and know that I'll love it, and this one is no exception. Honestly, Keri Arthur should be on every urban fantasy lover's auto buy list, which she proves yet again with this fabulous showing in DARKNESS SPLINTERED. An absolute must read!

As a long-time reader of this author, I was rather surprised that I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I have the others. Half werewolf/half Aedh and now, thanks to Azriel merging his essence with her, Risa is now something more. She needs to recover the 2nd key that’ll open the gates to Heaven and Hell, as well as locate the 3rd key. And all the while different factions are putting more pressure on her to get the keys for them. The threats to her friends are becoming more dangerous. She’s also realized that sending Azriel away was a mistake; she loves him.
Unlike the prior books in this series, Risa is only dealing with locating the keys and the sorcerers who worked with Lucian. The other books all had a secondary mystery/investigation, adding more interest to the stories.
There is plenty of fighting action and a lot of theory detail as Risa tries to reason things out and look for clues and gates. Included in that is information from characters and action from prior books. Thankfully the author gives enough information to keep you following along even if you don’t immediately recall who or what she’s talking about.
This story felt very heavy. Well each story has felt heavier than the prior as tension is high, Risa is exhausted and there is very little down time as lives are at stake if she can’t deliver in a short period of time. But connecting with Risa’s emotions under these circumstances exhausts me, and I’m really glad there is only one more book in the series.

I loved this latest book about Risa. It ended the way I thought it would but I'm not disappointed. Looking forward to the next instalment.

Risa has to find the missing keys and has some added impetus to the hunt with her father endangering Mirri's life (best friend Illianna's partner). Hunter is also on the warpath and someone close to Risa will die. Whilst all this is going off, Risa is also coming to terms with being pregnant and banishing Azriel.
I'm basically reading these last two books just to finish off the series. It was OK, but more of the same with Risa basically leaping into things without thinking, and assuming she knows what Azriel thinks/feels instead of asking. There was a lot of them whisking here and there from place to place and it got a bit repetitive. My attention is definitely starting to wane now we are on book 6. One more to go!

This is book six in the Dark Angels series and is definitely turning the danger and suspense up a notch. If you are new to these books then please please start at the beginning with Darknss Unbound as you really do need to catch up! An amazing urban fantasy series that just keeps getting better and a must read for those who love dark romance.
Risa and Azriel had separated at the end of the last book- Darkness Unmasked,- as Risa felt Azriel had gotten overprotective and had abused her trust. Risa wants to know that Azrael puts her safety first because of his feelings for her and not just because she's the only one who can locate the missing keys to the gates of Hell. Yes she's a little nieve but when everyone seems to be using you it's hard to act level headed all the time. Having banished him from her side she can't stop missing him and her life is about to take an even more complicated turn.
Risas father has threatened a friends life magically and now the clock is ticking in earnest and as if that wasn't enough the thoroughly warped and twisted Madeline Hunter has stepped up her demands. Hunter is a powerful vampire and it's clear that her desire for the Keys and the power they bring has sent her into overdrive. Suddenly no one that Risa cares about is safe and it's clear to Risa that she needs the one man who might not want to help. Time to grow up and suck it up as there's too much at stake not to. Risa needs Azrael but does he want her?
The relationship between Risa and Azrael sets the page on fire. From the very first book it was so obvious that he was one very passionate Reaper but at the time Risas playful and slightly immature nature kept them apart. Now she's realised how strong her feelings for him are it's almost as if she's a different woman. Yes she still wants him but her focus is finally on finding the keys. In this book we see Risa aching for him to say those four little words but not acting like a child over the lack. He may not say it but he does show it. Complications are everywhere and a revelation about Risas physical health won't stop her trying to save those she loves. Two of the Keys have already been taken from Risa and now it's imperative that she find the next and also the sorcerer who keeps getting in her way. Death is dogging her footsteps and there is no peace to be found. Risa is stepping up her game and all those who wish her loved ones harm had better start running!
What can I say I loved it! Risa is growing into a strong woman that deserves to win. No longer messing around she has finally found some clarity and focus. It's hard to see just how the author will end this series as so much is at stake and the fate of both humanity and the Reapers is still up in the air. We see a more playful almost human side to Azrael in this installment which almost makes up for the cliff hanger ending that Ms Arthur inflictied on us with the last book, almost! I am desperate to read the next book and can't recommend this series highly enough. This series is simply a must read!

Keri Arthur's Darkness Splintered was an amazing read takes Risa on another hellish journey try to find the three keys that open heaven and hell and prevent the matter from happening. She hasn't had much luck in the matter lately, and things continue to go to crap.
Last go around, Risa had been brought back to life by Azriel but the downside now is that her soul can never be reborn, she'll never see her mother again in the after life and with her next death she will become one of the guards to the gates of heaven and hell. She is essentially a dark angel. She had banished Azriel away despite carrying his child and it's not til things get too out of control that she calls him back.
Everyone is on Risa's case about her finding the keys and delivering them to them. The keys are a hot commodity and everyone wants them. Everyone who wants them are also threatening Risa, the people she cares about most and basically her whole world. But she has her unborn child to think of and protect.
Like many of Keri Arthur's books, there is a great deal of action in this one. Risa is actually on a timeline, she has 40 hours to find they keys or else her father will kill one of her friends. Madeline Hunter is also getting on her case and demanding the keys or else she will start killing all her friends and loved ones. And she does in fact do such a thing, which takes me completely by surprise!
This has been one of the most intense series I've read in a long time! Sure other series have their intense moments, but it seems like this series in particular has been rich with intensity! There's always something important on the line, that if Risa doesn't accomplish a particular task, there will be penalties to pay.
Romance wise there was a little bit, but not a whole lot going around. Which is nice in Urban Fantasy! Risa and Azriel do reconcile and their relationship does get pretty intense at moments. Of course, they're already having a baby together, so how much more intense can things get? Pretty intense, I'd say! I love that the romance can still be so fresh with them. And not just with the "lovin" scenes, but with the more deeper, emotional moments too.
There is only one more novel left in this series and I will be most curious to see how it all ends! Naturally, there's still the matter of the third key that has yet to be found, there's Tao's demon issues, Madeline Hunter, and still oh-so many more problems that have yet to be dealt with. We do get a little bit more of Riley and gang in this one, not much, but Rhoan does make more of a page appearance than the rest.
Darkness Splintered was an incredibly intense and delightful read! I love Keri Arthur's work and will be looking forward to this series finale along with anything else Keri writes!

So, there are now six books in the Dark Angels series and we are still no closer to solving a damn thing when it comes to the keys and the gates. In fact, we are even closer to having things blow up in Risa and Azriel's face completely. I continue to hope that instead of two steps backward, we get to the point where Risa and Azriel have finally figured out all the stupid, idiotic mistakes they've made along the way. I keep hoping that the Tao question is answered since it is obviously a lot more intense and has been shoved to the background.
I keep hoping that Arthur gives Ilianna a break and let's her be with who she wants to be Miri, instead of who she is supposed to be with according to her parents. I keep hoping that Hunter gets thrown into a situation where someone snaps her neck or shanks her. I've had 6 books to get used to the fact that NOTHING will happen until the very last book of the series which is called Darkness Falls. I know this because Arthur did the EXACT same thing with the Riley Jenson series. I keep hoping that Arthur actually allows Rhoan, and Riley, and Quinn to play a part in ending Hunter instead of continually putting them in a situation where they are totally out of the loop and continually threatened with death.
I am glad that over the past 2 books certain characters who shall not be named have found themselves being torn asunder by Risa. It's probably the best thing that's happened to this series knowing that these two monsters who have brought nothing but bad news to Risa and gang, is no longer a part of this series. I sincerely hope the Raziq are the next foes to be defeated by Risa and Azriel. I hope that Azriel finds a way to give Risa her life back that he's pretty much taken away from her by saving her life. I also hope that Arthur doesn't fast forward 10 years into the future and we find that certain characters have lost their minds, and memories and therefore they are not still together.

This is the sixth book in the Riley Jenson spin-off, which features her niece Risa. If you want to catch up the series starts with this book [[ASIN:0749954914 Darkness Unbound: Number 1 in series (Dark Angels)]].
For a story this far into the series it still has a lot of oomph and many paths to travel. Arthur has once again managed to create a spunky female lead, who tends to speak before she thinks and act before she realizes the consequences of her actions.
After one of her many act first think later actions she finds herself without Azriel and like a cat with zero lives left.
The keys, the ominous keys and the gazillion people who want the keys.
I do hope Risa has thought the whole handing the key over scenario through. At this point in time she is stuck in a hard place with no room for movement.
I wasn't very keen on the rape and impregnate sub-plot from the last book. Not all bad guys need to want to sow their zealous seeds and get women up the duff to execute their plans for global domination. Some of them just send a box of chocs and flowers. Risa might want to think about her choice in men. At least Azriel seems to be less shady than previous beaus.
Although the main goal was to find out where the keys are the story seemed to veer off that topic slightly. It became more about the relationship between Risa and her lover. It also focused on Hunter and her need for complete control.
I think the next book will probably find Hunter and Risa going head to head in an attempt to keep Hunter from accomplishing her main objective. Complete control.

There are simply not enough skulls to give this series, and it's almost unfathomable how they can get better, more thrilling, more heart breaking, more... insanely good, with each installment. Simply perfection, Keri!
While the ending of book #5 gave loyal fans answers that we had been seeking, the nasty cliff-hanger also opened up an entirely new subplot and enabled the series for even more darkness, danger and suspense, which made Darkness Splintered an insanely good read.
Risa and Azriel's relationship is even more intense with complicated trust issues, Azriel holding back, Risa forever putting herself into harm's way, enemies and threats popping up around every corner and more, and because of all of this (and things that I can't divulge because they would be super spoilers), the evolution of their part of the series arc has reached new and incredible heights.
I know this review doesn't do the book justice, but I simply cannot say more without giving some serious secrets away. I will say this... I loved it, and while I couldn't put it down, even after the last page was turned, I wanted more. There was some amazing action, intense drama, steamy romance, shocking surprise, and the character evolution was superb.
This series remains at the top of my favorite UF series list and I cannot recommend it highly enough. I strongly suggest reading the books in order though.

Six books into the Dark Angels series and it seems that Keri Arthur is just heating things up. If you thought what happened in the last book was interesting, then you might be in for another wild ride!
It’s no question that Risa and her boss, Medeline Hunter have been at each other’s throats for some time now. But when Risa is confronted with a challenge, she is offered a choice: stand up against Hunter and perhaps find the answers she needs to get the keys.
So far in this journey, Risa has always been the tough chick. In the last book, we see some of her vulnerabilities. The pressure is rising so much so that Risa is being pulled this way and that and it’s creating lots of tides in her world.
Keri Arthur knows how to keep readers on the precipice of pleasure. So much is going on, but it never feels rushed. You are on edge, but the events that happen seem very controlled and well-thought out. All of these things are markings of a good book in my opinion. It also helps that the writing is always engaging and fun.
I don’t want to go too deep into the plot to save you from spoilers but if you’ve read this series thus far, trust me. You don’t want to stop here. Arthur really knows what she is doing and DARKNESS SPLINTERED just might be the best in the series!

I really, really love Keri Arthur’s urban fantasy work. I always feel so pulled into the action. I’m a part of the battle, feeling everything that Risa is feeling and I love it. So much happens in this book that it was difficult to put it down and you definitely can’t multitask. All of your attention is needed to keep up with the craziness that is the search for the keys. Risa is so awesome as a heroine. Even when everyone is out to get her, she never gives up, never backs down. And Azriel…his presence, his declaration, made this book even more amazing.
I am sad that the next book is the end of this series, but I am dying to see how it all ends. I hope that Risa and her friends all survive, but you never know cause I’m sure things are about to get even crazier than they have been.

I love Keri Arthurs books, I REALLY do. Having said that, I must say that this particular addition to the Dark Angels series really left me searching for something positive to say. It seemed, to me, to be just a filler book. You know: one of those that can have a lot of action and goes NOWHERE till the very end. Then leaves you hanging. I'm seriously grateful that the next will be the last in this series. Something positive NEEDS to happen. Poor Risa has had the stuffing kicked out of her in every single book. Even this one has some major kicks in in, though I must say Azriel turns out to be the perfect sidekick...finally! Next book in this series is the finale. Darkness Falls. YAY!

This series started out strong for me, however as it has gone on it has lost it's luster, making me glad that the next book is the last one.
I feel like not a lot happened in this one, mostly it felt like Risa was spinning her heels, running from one clue to another, most of the time not finding out anything. I was glad that things with Azriel have been settled. Was really glad that Risa's father got what he deserved, now we just need the same for Hunter. With this book it looks like she might be one step closer having gone a bit too far.
I hope that Riley, Rhoan, and Quinn play a bigger part in the finale, would love to see them working with Risa and her crew to beat them all.

Another good installment and I'm so sad it's the next to last one! The stakes couldn't be higher in this one for Risa. It's becoming pretty clear that she's not going to be able to locate the keys without involving her friends and family. And can I just say that Amayla, her sword is too cool. Keri Arthur never disappoints and I'm going to be sad to see these come to an end.

This was better than the previous book, mostly because of Azriel. Risa continues to be the absolute worst. She wakes up from a 3 day drinking binge and while she was busy feeling sorry for herself the world was continuing. She pulls her head out of her ass and decides to apologize to Azriel after her father attacks Miri and puts a 40 hour deadline on her to find the 2nd key. He has decided that she is in fact stupid and will not figure this out on her own and tells her that they are soulmates. Hunter threatens one of her loved ones, it ends up being her ex, Jack (the reporter). She and Azriel show up in time to catch the vampire responsible but not to save Jack, who has no reaper waiting for him. Azriel puts out a call and his sister shows up to escort Jack's soul. Risa and Azriel go do some investigating. They find the dark sorceress and she has the key narrowed down to like four of the items that were stolen in the previous book. Risa calls her father and sends him to run interference with the priests, but she doesn't tell him that's what he's doing, while she goes in search of the doors. She gets attacked on the plans and is too late; the sorceress opens the 2nd gate. But immediately after she is taken to the pits of hell so who knows if she will be able to get out or not. Risa returns to her body. Her father shows up and he starts blaming her, which some of it is her fault because she was blackout drunk for 3 days. But, he has also been withholding information which would have been very helpful. And Risa has the clue for the 3rd key so she has decided she's had enough and she launches her sword at him. Amya laughs the entire time she is killing him. Meanwhile, the witches found a loophole to save Miri, but Risa didn't know about that. Her father was using his own essence to power the cord around her neck so they basically put a self destruct loophole into it. So he exploded when Amya killed him and Miri is safe. Much better than the previous book. And since 2 of the 3 gates to hell are open either Risa will find the 3rd key or she will be able to stop whoever does get it before they use it.

Skimmed through this one. Only actually read parts where Azriel and risa get back together and scenes where they talk about their relationship. Sadly that was probably only 2% of the book......
In books prior there was so much love between them with Azriel being a shoulder to cry on and being there for her personally, every scene between them was so heartfelt. Not to mention the sexual tension that developed slowly was so riveting, I couldn’t put the book down.
But these last couple of books??? My gosh it’s not the same :( there wasn’t even a sex scene. It was just issue after issue risa had to be drug to over and over. No heartfelt scenes. Not of the old stuff! It’s so sad.
I’m gonna skim through the last one only bc it was already bought and I wanna see how they end up. :/

Chaotic! That's an appropriate term to describe this book. So much stuff happening, too many sides threatening Risa for the sake of getting the keys, while the only thing she wants is to get a normal life. Even that choice was no longer in her grips as fate did not agree with her.
Bleak and gloom await in the story with little happiness for the heroine. That hardship and helpless feeling is so strong that it makes me feel uncomfortable. If it wasn't because I'm almost reaching the end of the series, I would have abandoned the book. Let's hope the last book would bring some sunshine and cheer me up!

Risa's and Azriel's journey to find the keys continue and the journey is once again very difficult. I was happy to be able to borrow this book and enjoyed reading the next part of the saga but I get a little frustrated in that the good guys rarely get a break sheez. On to the next book in the series. Hopefully there will be more happy parts than not.

Simply stunning
Wow this is full on and no break from the action at all. Even some sex would be a break but there is little of that. Threats against all key characters and I am fearful for all of them in the final installment. Keri Arthur you play havoc with getting enough sleep but I guess I wouldn't have it any other way.
