Under His Command

Rate this book
A firefighter desperate to save his failing marriage earns the trust—and the sexual submission—of his controlling wife in the most pleasurable of ways.

After an explosive one-night stand results in pregnancy, Jamie Caldwell is thrilled to marry the perfect foil to his Dom side. But when his submissive wife starts cringing every time he gives a command, Jamie shackles his dark desires. A bout of rough, frenzied reunion sex makes him wonder if now he should free the Dom he’s kept in chains and teach Erica the joys of submission and sexual surrender.

Erica Caldwell secretly loved every sinful thing Jamie did to her on their first night together. However, terrified she’ll become a codependent doormat like her mother, she repeatedly rejects Jamie’s dominance, despite craving the kind of release only he can give her—the release that comes from yielding to Jamie’s every demand.

Hoping that the trust required by BDSM will help them rebuild their faith in each other, Jamie and Erica embark on a journey of sexual exploration. But is it too late to repair their crumbling marriage?

OK here goes... I had to really push myself to even finish this book and that says a lot because I never leave a book unfinished... I was irratated with the story line from pretty much the 2nd chapter on... first thing I found Rickie super obnoxious, bitchy and annoying... and the fact that they were married for 5 years and none of their marital issues were ever discussed is really hard to believe... it's like they didn't even know eachother and even roommates have a better knowledge of the person they are living with than these two had of eachother... The fact that she runs to his co-worker about their bedroom problems is awful (friends or not) and I hated her even more when you found out she'd kept Jamie and his family from seeing their daughter for a whole year... I mean really who says oh he's a wonderful father but he can't see his kid?? I would not recommend reading this unless you like reading about self involved idiots who have been married for 5 years and don't seem to know anything about the other person...

I love how Kristine Cayne is able to make her characters come to life on her pages. She is able to create such depth and emotion in them that you feel invested in their story and cannot help but hope for a HEA for them.

Jamie and Erica have been separated for a while and are trying to fix their failing marriage. Jamie is a firefighter, a dom, and is used to taking charge in every way. Erica is fighting her past and is scared of what it would mean to give up control. Ultimately, both Jamie and Erica have made mistakes in their marriage and now they have the challenge of correcting those mistakes if they want to stay together. It will not be an easy road for them, but if their Hawaii honeymoon is any indication, they are definitely off to a good start! Through the story we get to watch them grow both as individuals and as a couple. Jamie learns that he cannot be a good husband when he is pretending to be something he is not, and Erica learns that giving up control can be a good thing…sometimes a very good thing.

I have been waiting for this book for a while, and it did not disappoint. The story was sweet and incredibly sexy, a great start to a new series.

Love ignited after five years of tortured existence is the hope many unhappy couples dream about, especially if it is a shotgun wedding. Jaime is a feisty firefighter sexual Dominant. A blazing hot one-night stand completely changes his life when it ends up with a knocked up woman. Rickie met Jaime in a bar and in the spur of the moment, hooks up with him for some kinky nasty sex. After-morning regrets is never so strong as in this case.

Fast forward five years later and it's a freaking train wreck. Jaime and Rickie have been separated for a year. Rickie filed for divorce because she wasn't getting her needs met by her husband, Jaime. Basically, she wanted to kink up the sex, but after years of giving Jaime the cold shoulder to kinky sex, he's stopped trying.

Let's stop for a moment. Unfortunately women like this are in abundance and they are an embarrassment to the rest of us sane women. Rickie is the classic wife men complain about. She gives mixed messages and then expects the confused man to read her mind. She forces him to pay penance for some event he doesn't understand. Worse, she holds their daughter hostage against him. The worst crime is her restricting him to cut off parts of him, specifically his love of BDSM. For a kinkster like me, this is a most heinous crime. There is nothing redeemable about Rickie other than she shot out a baby for Jaime. She's despicable and a witch who spellbinds poor Jaime.

However, Ms. Cayne did a good job of creating her characters. While Rickie is completely unlikeable, Jaime is the one who readers pity. He's the white knight suffering as a prisoner of war. He is sexy, handsome and loyal. He's also been castrated by his bitch of a wife. Jaime is quite emasculated in this story through the chains of love. It's interesting how well Ms. Cayne captures this dynamic. It's as if she possesses intimate knowledge of these types of relationships. I've been exposed to these through many male co-workers. Her portrayal is eerily accurate and just as depressing.

The plot of this story is how a marriage is saved. The work is all done by Jaime. He's the one who makes the changes and compels Rickey to communicate with him. This is the interesting part. This is where Ms. Cayne's claiming Jaime is a Dominant falls short for me. There is no "one true way" for D/s. However, Ms. Cayne's understanding of it is not a type I would ever enjoy. I'd also urge kinksters to avoid the Dominants Ms. Cayne portrays. An example of disturbance is Jaime's explanation of D/s:

"D/s relationships aren't usually about love, Rickie. They are about two people getting what they need, sexually." (p. 42)

Yes, this can be true. But it's a sad day to have it just about the sex. Actually, D/s is more about the erotic power exchange. The communication and trust to submit and gift power to another person. How is love not involved with honest communication and trust? Replace D/s relationship with prostitution and the sentiment from Jaime would be dead on.

Then the hole-digging becomes deeper as Jaime explains BDSM.

He [Jaime] laughed. "No. I could never see you as part of the lifestyle. You're way too pure."

When her expression turned mulish, he laughed again. "No need to be insulting," she [Rickie] said.

"Believe me, I meant that in the best way possible. I like you exactly the way you are. The world of BDSM can be very ugly. It isn't for people who just want to experiment. You have to be the lifestyle, not act it."

"Did you see any of this ugliness?"

"I'd never judge anyone. People have different needs and what's right for one might not be for the other. That's what went wrong with Andrea. I like—no, I love—controlling my partner's sexual gratification. It turns me on like nothing else. But part of a true D/s relationship also involves punishment. If the submissive doesn't follow the rules, her Dom has to punish her. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not against inflicting pain when the return in pleasure is greater. But I just can't hurt someone for the purpose of giving them pain." (p. 42)

What the hell did I just read? First of all, punishment doesn't require physical pain. Also, a D/s relationship doesn't require SM either. Plus pain is relative. For someone who has sensitive skin, fireplay is unbearably painful. Yet Jaime's specialty is fireplay. The myth that BDSM is solely for those who live it as a lifestyle is damaging. It's judgmental and speaks of elitism. BDSM is for anyone willing to experiment. They don't have to be labeled as BDSM lifestylers. The final fallacy which pushed me over the edge is the following:

Deep subspace is only possible when a sub gives herself over to the experience and cedes all control to her Dom. (p. 108)

Untrue. There are different ways to achieve subspace. It is personal and different for each submissive or bottom. Some who enjoy giving all control to their Dominant may not achieve subspace even when they completely cede control.

Now, I point out these things not because I believe authors need to give a BDSM 101 class in their stories. However, I do require they do enough research so they don't give those outside of the BDSM world the wrong ideas. It's more than just the fetish acts or scenes which need to be researched. Understanding the mindset is just as important if one is going to be writing it in a contemporary erotic romance. My recommendation, find those who have been in the lifestyle for many years and observe how they interact. Talk to well respected Tops and Dom/mes.

Now, the fireplay in this book is good. The scene is written sensually and well. As a fireplay lover who's experience it in several intense sessions including fire cupping, this was the best part of the story.

The story overall is written well with no plot holes. The characters behave according to their design. The pace of this story is a bit slow but it works out fine. This story is a romance with a happily ever after. It's lovely how a relationship so broken can be saved and brought back anew. For this message of hope as well as the delicious fireplay, I'm recommending for romance readers who want to kick up the heat.

This was a fantastic debut for the author's venture into erotic romance. A heart-warming storyline and scorching hot romance made this impossible to put down.

Jaime and Erica are trying to find their way back to each other and make their marriage work. It's safe to say that an earthquake scared them straight and made them realize that what they have was too important to walk away from. Erica could be really frustrating and annoying at times, but she tried really hard to “woman up. That wasn't always easy. Her childhood left her with legitimate fears, and the surprise pregnancy after her one night stand with Jaime certainly didn't help with her insecurities. I liked that she was cognizant of her own flaws and tried to sort out her feelings.

As a man who is used to taking charge in his work life, Jamie also likes to take charge in the bedroom. His first night with Erica was explosive, out of control and wildly intoxicating. Despite Erica's secret desire to have that side of Jamie show up more often, he represses his urges and treats her like a china doll. He feels guilty for having ruined her dreams that she once had, and seems to think he needs to treat her like a lady, all the time. I enjoyed seeing them stumble their way through, learn to express their feelings, rid themselves of the past and pave the way for a future together.

“I love your brand of crazy. I love you.

The love scenes were plentiful, varied and so hot they would melt the elastic in your panties! While it may seem that all they do is sex it up all over Hawaii, Erica's introduction to light BDSM and the D/s aspect of their relationship helps her to learn about giving and receiving trust, and it helps her to overcome her fears that tie Jamie's dominating ways to the abuse her mother had suffered at the hands of mean boyfriends.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The characters start out in a fragile place, but end up growing separately as well as together and come out more self assured and stronger on the other side. To me, that's as realistic as it gets. If I have one favorite scene, it's definitely the one with the fire play.

I highly recommend this book. The BDSM/kink is pretty tame, but effective. I will definitely re-read this book and look forward to the rest of the series.

To find out how Jamie and Erica first met, you'll find their story in the prequel, Aftershocks which can be found in the Anthology.

This was so good. This starts off with Rickie and Jamie having a hot one night stand. Then it skips ahead five years later, they are married and were separated and even talked about divorce. Thankfully Jamie and Rickie wont give up so easily. But the main issue it seemed was communication. Geez if that would have just talked and got it all aired out none of them would have suffered.

It seems that Jamie has a very wicked Dom side and Rickie secretly want that but cant express herself. But then sexy, sweet oh and a fine fireman Jamie decided to take Rickie on the honeymoon they never had and well its one steamy week. I have to say that I was shocked when there was fire play. Um no thank you! It sounds interesting but yeah I'm a chicken like that. There was a lot of D/s talk and explaining things to Rickie and well if you don't know about it, it was educational for sure.

"One sheep. Two sheep. Jump, fucker! Three sheep."

Jaime and Erica shared one night together "No strings, no expectations, no limits." Erica is younger than Jaime, naive when it comes to sex, but lucky for Erica, Jaime was there to take control. Erica never new sex could be that way, she is shocked and disturbed by how much she liked it.
"It's soft and warm and furry, and it likes to be petted. When you do it just right, you even hear it purr." He ran his finger up to her clit and circled around it.
"Mmm," she closed her eyes and moaned.
"Sounds like a pussy to me."

Fast forward five years, Jaime and Erica find themselves trying to make their marriage work, they both lost their way from themselves and each other. Erica was the first to snap, she couldn't take it anymore...
"I might like fine china, but that doesn't mean I want to be treated like it! I like sex a little rough, a little bit...kinky. Deal."

Jaime didn't want to loose her and knew he had to come up with something fast...
"He had to bind her to him--physically and emotionally, and he only had a week to do it. By the time they returned to Seattle, she'd be his, body and soul."

Jaime introduces his real self to Erica, praying that she is open and willing to accept who he truly is. Erica is coming to terms with the way Jaime makes her feel and will try and do anything to keep him.
"What do you want right now?"
"You. I want to feel you inside me."
"Vanilla?"
"No, I want the Dark Knight not Prince Charming."
"Be careful what you ask for...tonight, my sweet sub, you and I are playing with fire."

On top of getting their marriage back on track, they also have to deal with Jaime's job, the one that always puts him in harms way.
"Her husband was a true hero. But was she cut out to be a hero's wife?"

It wasn't a long read, I liked it well enough and wasn't bad for a freebie. There were parts that I enjoyed and others that drove me batty; five years of their lives wasted all because they couldn't talk to each other, couldn't admit what they wanted, trying to be something or someone else. BUT what I did like was the Fire Play ... that was pretty hot, something new that I haven't read about before.

Reading this was a little odd coming immediately on the heels of

Jamie was a Dom - you know the type, lots of women kneeling at his feet, etc. But nothing ever really clicked. So one night he meets Rickey in a bar and takes her home for a wild and wooly night of protected sex. She bails the next morning and he can't find her. A month later, she turns up on his doorstep pregnant.

Jamie is sure that he has ruined her life but is determined to do the right thing. Erica is sure that she has ruined his life but has no one else to turn to for help. So there are both feeling more than a bit guilty which leads to...them spending 4 years together not communicating, split up for a year, and only get together after the Earthquake of 2014 when they come together to save their daughter's life.

Now they are finally on their honeymoon in Hawaii. And finally communicating. These two are the poster children for angsty relationships.

Fortunately, though, it turns out that Jamie was wrong about her feelings toward the night she met. She actually enjoyed being blindfolded while he got down to business. And she is ready for more.

I would rate this a three if we had to live through the 5 miserable years but since we got to skip to the end I can be slightly generous. Plus the actual play scenes were well done - especially the Fire Play.

Yes, this book does have BDSM as it's major content, but it is more than that. This book was mainly about the trust issues in the main character's marriage and working through that issue with the BDSM. I considered the BDSM very light.

Scorching, hot look at a man introducing his wife to BDSM and his full Dom side.

Jamie and Erica were introduced in the prequel to this book Romance in the Rain. I recommend reading that book first.

In the prequel we meet Jamie Caldwell who is part of the Seattle Fire Dept Technical Rescue Team. He has been separated from his wife who wants a divorce. He has been putting off signing the papers cause he doesn't want to lose his daughter. Erica suffers from a lot of issues from her childhood and while Jamie was away for an humanitarian mission her insecurities got the better of her and she decided to start not needing Jamie anymore and basically pushed him away when he got back even though she laid the blame on him. After a large earthquake rocks Seattle, Erica and their daughter Chloe are trapped in a building. The majority of this book is Jamie and his team trying to rescue them. We get to find out what went wrong in there marriage and see that deep down they really both still love each other.

This book picks up after Jamie has moved back in with his wife and daughter but things still aren't going so well. Jamie is still walking on egg shells around Erica and scared to initiate the kind of sex he wants to have with her. The two of them cannot communicate and when they try he misunderstands everything she is trying to say. After talking with his mother she makes him realize that in his bid to make his wife happy he has sacrificed his own happiness. He has always felt sense of guilt since he got her pregnant at 21 and they had to get married and she gave up her goals for becoming a lawyer but he got to continue on with his dream of becoming a firefighter.

Jamie decides they need to take the honeymoon they never got to take five years ago. He also decides he needs to come clean about who is really is. Before he met her he was a full fledged Dom and had many subs. He isnt looking for a slave or even a full time sub in his wife but he does want her submission in the bedroom but he is afraid she is to prim and proper to accept this side of him.

What Jamie didnt know is Erica loved there first time together when he was all rough and in Dom mode (even though she didnt know he was a Dom at the time) but since that first night when she got pregnant he's treated her like glass. Between that and her fear she would become a door mat like her mother she pushed him away.

On there honeymoon they finally come clean with each other and when she tell him that she likes his rougher side his response was so funny - "If that first time was so special, why did you nun-up every time I got a little demanding with you?"

From here Jamie introduces her to the BDSM world of sex.. Many hot scenes between these two.

They still have some trust issues to work out but through the BDSM they both grow even more in love with each other.

This was a great start to a new erotic series. I cant wait to read future stories - especially Dani and Williams story.

I don't know what I can say about this book that will due it justice, at least in my eyes. But I will tell you this....Kristine Cayne has managed to jump into the erotic romance realm with a couple that are scorching hot, but still have the complex, emotional relationship I've come to love in the stories she writes.

Jamie Caldwell is desperate to put his family back together. He thought he lost Erica, but an earthquake managed to make them both realize they were still desperate for one another. What they didn't have was complete honestly and trust. To try and get that back, they leave for the Hawaiian islands, hoping that week will help them reconnect and get their relationship back on track.

This was unlike any other BDSM type book that I've read. We had a Dom that was willing to push that part of himself aside and be the kind of husband his thought his wife wanted. Then we have the uber controlling sub, who doesn't know she's a sub. It's a little confusing and it's that confusing the makes you instantly love Jamie and Erica.

Jamie and Erica have HUGE communication and trust issues. Neither of them trust themselves to turn into the person they are trying to hide from the other, which makes them give less than 100% of themselves to the relationship. And they don't talk to each other. It's only after they start talking, about everything, that they are able to finally start talking about their sex life and letting those secret parts of themselves come out. And when those parts comes out....Mr. and Mrs. Caldwell are SMOKING HOT!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the complex relationship between Jamie and Erica. They were perfectly imperfect and had me devouring this book in a couple of hours. I will now anxiously await the next book in the series, hoping I won't have to wait too long.

Firefighter Jamie Caldwell enjoys no-strings-attached relationships where he is free to indulge in a number of sins, until he meets Erica Madden. A young and inspiring lawyer, in one night she manages not only to rock his world but change it forever. When she finds out that she is pregnant she puts aside her own dreams for marriage to Jamie and a life together.

Five years later, they are no happy family. They decide to take a second honeymoon to Hawaii which rekindles the flame that has been extinguished between them. A discovery of personal pleasures that were previously denied along with a newfound trust built on mutual respect has them falling in love all over again and for the right reasons this time around.

Jamie Caldwell is an attractive, upstanding citizen that commands attention quite quickly in this story. He is incredibly appealing and his unique qualities are brought to light the further one reads. The reader is also thrown right into the fire as the temperature rises in the blink of an eye. Instant action and it is hot! Although Erica is not an outstanding character she too has merits that are not to be overlooked. Circumstances have played a large part in her unhappiness and as the reader gets to know her she becomes much more commendable. Together as a couple their love blossoms and the magic begins to unite the story. An exploration of varying degrees of BDSM gives a interesting perspective. Jamie and Erica bear their souls. They are far from perfect but are real and honest. A sexy story with true love.

Okay, Here is what I liked about this book...

I loved the first chapter that told how they got together. I loved that this erotic book did not rotate around a wealthy man with mommy issues, but rather a firefighter. I loved that Jamie and Rickie were loyal to each other--no cheating even during their separation. I loved that each took responsibility for the problems in their marriage. I loved that both wanted to do whatever it took to make their marriage and family work.

Okay, Here is what I didn't like...

5 years they are married--with a daughter--and they never talk. They do not know each other. At all, so it seems in reading this book. They got married because she was pregnant, but it's not clear if they ever really even dated prior to getting married. They have a one-night stand, a couple months later she realizes she's pregnant and goes knocking on his door, then they get married. Nice he stepped up and nice that she didn't keep the pregnancy from him, but really??? And then their marriage problems are solved by developing trust that allows them to have the BDSM lifestyle.

So I got that the sex, trust and communication were very important in helping their marriage, but I would have liked to see what happened once they got back to normal life with work and their daughter. Could what they had on their "honeymoon" in Hawaii carry over into their everyday life?

Jamie and Erica's relationship started on the day of their supposed one-night stand. After Erica gets pregnant, they marry. Unfortunately, they don't connect during the course of their marriage as deeply as they did on that fateful night...on the night that Jamie let his inner Dominant out for Erica. Now, they have decided to go on a long-awaited honeymoon in hopes of reviving their marriage and spicing up their sex life. But will Erica and Jamie be able to pull through five years worth of feelings and frustrations?

I was surprised by this book. The writing was smooth and appeared to be well thought through, and the author succeeded in making the readers care for the characters. The plot was slower paced and relaxed, yet the climax completely changed the mood of the book for a chapter or so, which I both appreciated yet felt slightly annoyed about because I was enjoying the more playful aspects of the story.

The erotic scenes were almost perfect and they introduced me to new ideas and practices I didn't even know existed. I found that this novel was not cheesy or superficial because beyond the erotica aspect of it, the underlying story pulled the reader into the minds, hearts, and even bodies of the characters.

I recommend this novel to readers craving a sexy erotic story with a meaningful plot and likeable characters.

Okay. No big news. I just love Kristine Cayne. So yep. As soon as this baby came out, I just had read it. And once again she doesn't disappoint :)

Characters, characters, characters. You get it all. The personnality, the love, the insecurities, the romance, the passion, the doubts. Then there's sex, sex, sex. And it reads like you're just watching it (@.@) and in true Kristine style, once again, it's classy and never trashy. And now I want to go to Hawaii, because of the way the landscape is described.

But what really hit me in this read, is just how fab she is with the whole series thing. I already knew that from the Deadly Vices novels, but once again, you just get the whole "series" feeling here, and I just love it. I was happily thrown back to Romance in the Rain (Six Seattle Novellas) and Aftershocks (among others), and I loved the hints as to what might come next in the series. It's building the anticipation already !! Very crafty ! Kristine certainly knows how to keep a reader hooked !

5 "scorching" stars!!!

Breakout the fire hoses and sound the alarm!!

This book was ON FIRE...literally but don't worry Jamie's firefighter training came in very handy!! Hello, Fire Play, nice to meet you! That was a new and exciting scene! I went in to this book thinking it would be all fantastically smutty and meaningless but it actually had a pretty good story to go along with the hotness! Worth a read! Loved it!!

Great book! Finished in just a few days. Kristine is great with setting and description. I was constantly reminded of my own trip to Hawaii while reading this. I could almost feel the sun and the breeze on this very cold January day.
It's a sexy book. BDSM done right. Not raunchy or over done, but romantic and sensual. Love the characters, especially Jamie.

Great series and love the characters!!! At first I couldn't understand the disconnect and lack of knowledge between this couple; however, the more I thought about it, I think this is a commonality between most couples!!

I personally don't see fire play as erotic but, then I've never experienced it either. But it didn't do anything for me.

This was a really good story. It shows just what an issue lack of communication and trust can do to a relationship. Fortunately when we come in to the story, Ricki and Jamie and in the process of working things out so we don't see most of the downhill slide...just the uphill battle. :D

Ricki was in college when she met Jamie (he was 6 years older and a firefighter) at a party and they had a one night stand. This might have been the end of it but she ended up pregnant. When she tells Jamie about it he proposes and they get married. This was a bad start to a relationship and things don't get worked out for a while. There's a real lack of communication that went on for 5 years of marriage and that's when we came in to the story.

Ricki and Jamie love each other but because of the circumstances of how they got together, Ricki thinks Jamie only asked her to marry him because he felt guilty about her getting pregnant and she doesn't believe he actually loves her. She loves him but started to push him away because she realized she's afraid to become dependent on him. If he then died at on the job, she might not be able to cope with it and not be able to take care of her daughter (her Mother set a very bad example).

Jamie loves Ricki but the main problem on his side seems to be that he was a Dom when they met but once he got Ricki (and their little girl Chloe) he didn't want to mess it up so he went and changed himself to be what he thinks Ricki needs. In the mean time he caves in to her on everything which makes her think he doesn't care enough to put in an effort and they're both miserable.

There are several references in here about Ricki and Jamie going through an Earthquake together which compelled them to give their marriage another chance. I kept finding myself wanting to know more about this since it made them decide to try again. This can be found in a short story called Aftershocks. It's from the Anthology . I found it helpful in understanding Jamie and Ricki and their relationship woes.

Anyways, Jamie suggests they go on a Honeymoon (they never got one) to HI. They go and the first day they still have some issues with the whole communication issue but they gradually work past this and manage to start re-connecting. They also rediscover their sex life though BDSM as Ricki encourages Jamie to re-establish himself as a Dom (as well as not backing down in day to day issues). Once they got past the communication issues I just loved the time they spent in HI .

I really liked this book. I will read it again in the future...probably when the next book comes out. I can't wait to see Dani and Will get together!

I love when I read a book that completely catches me off guard. I bought this book on Amazon during a promo special and thought it'd be worth a listen during my commute to work. I finished it in two days and am glad I knew nothing about it going in.

If you're reading this, then that's obviously not your situation, so here are some things to know about this sexy, sensual, heart-gripping romance...

- The hero is a firefighter and, like most firefighters, he lives for it
- He's also completely, totally dedicated to his family, even when things aren't going so well between him and his wife. He stays committed and solid, is a hero in the truest sense of the word, and lets himself be heart-breakingly vulnerable.
- The sex is kinky but not over the top. The BDSM is well-placed and contributes to the story rather than being the story.
- The fireplay scene (which I was not expecting, although in hindsight probably should have), is the hands-down best fireplay scene I have ever read. Not having had the pleasure of witnessing a real life fireplay scene, I have a better understanding now of what is involved than from reading any other book featuring it. It's almost instructional, but not preachy or boring. Very sensual, visual, and it fit the story just right. Kudos to Ms. Cayne on doing her research!
- The hero's "Dom" persona does not dominate his character or his relationship with the heroine. It doesn't even dominate the sex except where it needs to. These two have a loving partnership that is not about the dynamics of Master/slave but rather mutual pleasure that draws them closer as a couple.

This is a romance relationship book, straight up. Everything that happens, happens to further the relationship between the characters and, while there is an action scene, it's not gratuitous or over-the-top. Highly recommended read if you have a thing for emotional stories and sexy, vulnerable, firefighter Doms, this is the book for you!

Ya, that was awful! So I knew I didn't like BDSM books and it was very clear that's what this was going to be...why did I buy it? Because I read the least favorable review and it said 50 Shades was a better book. I could barely make it through the first three chapters of 50 Shades it was so poorly written, so I figured if that was the reviewers baseline, this might be a pretty good book. I had read Aftershocks and I liked the characters, so even though I knew it was moving into BDSM, I figured good story, hot fireman, maybe it will work. Nope!

I didn't even feel like these were the same characters from the novella. Big, hot, macho Jamie was the most neurotic Dom there probably ever was...okay I don't know, but jeez, for someone who was sooo into being a Dom he sure freaked over every little thing. Seriously, what guy hasn't accidentally hit a girls gag reflex during a blow job, it happens. It's not like he was holding her head and forcing himself down her throat, but jeezaloo he sure acted like it. Every time his churlish wife seemed slightly upset he was falling all over himself...who was the real Dom in this relationship?

Then there is bitchy, complaining, whiny Erica. This girl and I would never be friends. These two were supposed to have been married five years at this point. Granted they got married under the worst circumstances, her getting pregnant, and they didn't really know each other...but five years?! These two walk on egg shells around each other. They have never attempted to have an adult conversation and work anything out.

The sex scenes were awful. Yeah, I don't like BDSM, but it wasn't even titillating. A woman is left alone, blindfolded, laying across a coffee table with a butt plug in that gives a nice little vibe zap once in awhile, and I'm not supposed to crack up?!

I'm all about fireman, but Jamie left me cold.

I did appreciate the ending disclaimer by the author...don't try this at home. Awesome!

I'd heard a lot about this book, so I decided to give it a try.

Under His Command is about a firefighter, Jamie, and his wife, Erica. The book opens with the night they met - a one night stand - then fast forwards the readers five years into the future. The two are now married with a young daughter. They are not, however, happily married.

The book centers around Erica embracing Jamie's Dominant side...a side she got a glimpse of that first night, but has rejected ever since.

This book had a lot of promise, but fell short in my opinion.

I wasn't sure I was crazy about Jamie after the first chapter, but as the story progressed, he started to grow on me. It was easy to relate to his struggle suppressing his Dom nature, yet loving his wife enough to keep who he is locked inside himself in order to make her happy.

My problems with the story came once Erica and Jamie started to embark on this new journey of exploration into BDSM. Other than their one night of kinky play, Erica has no experience in BDSM. She is a complete novice, which Jamie admits, yet some of the things he told her, and some of his thoughts were completely contradictory to that.

I don't want to give too much away, but I will say that I was disappointed in what I felt was the authors lack of research into the lifestyle. With that said, there is a scene toward the end of the book, while written well, it felt as though the author had read about it somewhere, found it fascinating, and decided to tack it onto the story. I certainly didn't feel that it was appropriate play for a woman who'd only decided to give being a submissive a try a few days before.

I wanted to like this book, but unfortunately, it fell flat for me, and I doubt I will be reading anything more from this author in the future.

Blazing Hot!

My first encounter with a Kristine Cayne story will definitely not be my last
In `Under His Command' this incredibly talent author acquaint me with her unique ability to capture me as a reader entirely within this deeply erotic tale.
When Jamie and Erica (Rickie) come together in an extremely HOT! night of no holds barred sex neither one had forever in mind, but they soon find out life doesn't always work out as planned.
5 years later and after being separated from his wife Rickie and daughter Chloe for 12 months all Jamie Caldwell wants is to come home again, but is he prepared to break down the walls between them by baring all? And by doing so will he save his marriage or destroy it irreparably?
With a combination of guilt and a past tainted by her mother's bad choices Erica struggles with a layer so thick of insecurities and fear that she pushes the only man she has ever love out of her life. Now that Jamie is back can she let go and give her sexy fire-fighter husband the control he so desperately craves.
Can they rekindle the love that is still very much alive between them and bridge the gap caused by a lack of communication?
Once Jamie realises Rickie's wants match his needs he's more than happy to oblige on their week long and well overdue honeymoon but how does he introduce her to the BDSM lifestyle of his past without scaring her off for good.
Ms Cayne depicts beautifully this blossoming dom/sub relationship encompassing in its entirety a love hidden under guilt, courtesy and self-imposed expectations, Her ability to intoxicate the reader with her extensive array of sensually charged scene provokes an out of body experience.
I can't wait to see what comes next in this breathtaking series I was definitely left wanting much, much more!!
