Me encanta cómo escribe Cheryl Holt, sus historias son para leerse del tirón. Esta historia en particular se encuadra dentro del romance histórico y sus protagonistas son fascinantes. Abigail es una mujer hecha y derecha que sabe lo que quiere y hace lo imposible por conseguirlo, a la par que se ve obligada a luchar contra todo aquello que le fue inculcado y que le impide vivir cómo y con quién desea.
¡¡¡Y James!!! ¿Qué decir de un casanova como este? En su base es un personaje clásico, bastardo que se ve obligado a vivir apartado de aquellos a los que quiere, pero que en el fondo es un hombre con sus reglas y su honor.
Los personajes secundarios también tienen mucho para dar y aportan un contexto perfecto para los protagonistas, especialmente sus hermanos, que a lo largo de todo lo que viven deben aprender a sobreponerse a sus vidas ya armadas y poner sus deseos por encima de todo. Muy recomendable.
PD por relectura: Ciertos momentos de la historia realmente hacen dar ganas de darles algún golpe a los personajes, pero hacer idioteces es un rasgo muy humano.
Me gustaron bastante más Edward y Angella en esta segunda lectura, creo que muestran una experiencia de vida interesante.

Heroine wants hero to teach her about sex so she can tell younger sister about it when her sister gets married. The hero is a ho, a ho-dog, he sleeps with ow while teaching heroine and I'm not certain he stopped when he realized he loved heroine. I do not like books that leave what I consider vital parts of romance vague or unacknowleged. I was going to read more by this author but I don't want another situation like this to occur. Normal people it might not bother but me, I will be analyzing for days trying to reconcile in my mind all these unanswered questions.
I started off really liking this book, I could have done without hero sleeping with other woman but was willing to overlook it as long as it was done prior to intimacy with heroine or love being discovered. This was the first book that I have read by Cheryl Holt and I am looking forward to another one! I really struggled with rating it, I wanted to give it 5 stars but there was one major thing that bothered me about this story that ended up earning it 4 stars!
During the first half of this book I felt like I was reading just a smutty romance novel. It was full of steam, passion and longing, which is not a bad thing in itself, but the characters didn't seem to have much depth to them. Then around halfway through the book, a much deeper side to the hero and heroine opened up and continued all the way until the very last page! Love Lessons is a story in which two worlds collide, the dark, sinful and dangerous with the pure, polite and innocent.
James Stevens is well-known in London society as being the worst kind of rakehell. He lives for carnal pleasures and doesn't feel any guilt for going from one woman's bed to another and he never dallies with the same woman for long because he doesn't want them to form an attachment to himself.
Abigail Weston is 25 years old, a spinster in society's eyes. She was engaged at the age of 17 but her fiancee died before they were married. So, she concentrated instead on the care and raising of her sister. After learning that a friend of the Weston sisters had recently been married and traumatized by the events that occur in the marriage bed, Abigail decided to find out what those events were in order to prepare her sister for her own wedding night. Abigail knew just who to turn to for this information- the notorious dissolute, James Stevens.
James and Abigail make an agreement- he will tell her everything she needs to know about the physical relationship between a man and a woman, but if they are seen together he will make no promises to save her reputation. So they begin having clandestine meetings and before long his "telling" turns into "showing" her the pleasures of the flesh.
James and Abigail both feel an immediate attraction to one another and James even feels something for her that he has never felt for any other woman. He actually cares about her feelings, doesn't want to hurt her and wants to protect her. -This is where in most romance novels the hero finds that he is so attracted and enamored with the heroine that he cannot even think about going to a paramour or mistress to meet his manly needs for no one could assuage his hunger besides the heroine, right? Well, not for James Stevens. This is what caused this book to loose a star in my rating. James continued seeing whores during the first part of his relationship with Abigail. He would meet with Abigail, give her some lessons and then go meet with a mistress to help take the edge off of his passions. -This really turned me off of this hero until we got to the meaty part of the book.
After figuring out that he was falling in Love with Abigail and feeling that perhaps she was falling in love with him, James finally stopped seeing other women. This is also when we really get a good look into his soul and find out what he has been running from and why he has been going from woman to woman. We learn what experiences caused him to become hardened and cold. I grew very fond of him in the second half of the book and was able to forgive his earlier transgressions. I actually felt very sorry for him and just wanted to hug him! :)
This book was full of surprises, twists and turns and left me wondering how it would end and if the hero and heroine were going to get their happily ever after all the way until the very last page. I wish it had included an epilogue, but there is a sequel to this book, , so I am hoping we will get a glimpse at James and Abigail in it!

Preparada para o pior, aguentei cerca de dois meses após o livro sair para o comprar. Não gostei muito do primeiro que foi editado pela quinta essência, mas deste até gostei. Não é nenhuma obra prima. Sabe-se muito bem qual é o tipo deste livro, mas este pelo menos teve uma história da qual não desgostei. Também gostei que certos capÃtulos fossem contados do ponto de vista da personagem masculina.
Para mim valeu a pena tê-lo comprado.

Com uma sinopse bastante interessante, Cheryl Holt, surpreendeu-me muito pela positiva. Isto porque estava a espera de algo apenas sensual (como já tinha lido outros desta colecção da Quinta Essência) mas de facto este livro tem uma história bem fixa e bem pensada.
No entanto é completamente erótico e sensual.
James Stevens, é um homem completamente sedutor e com a fama e também o proveito de se meter nas camas das senhoras, embora nunca dorme com elas, faz-lho apenas pelo prazer de se “aliviar�. Todas as mulheres querem que ele esteja entre as suas pernas pela simples razão de o poderem dizer que o tiveram e comentar com as amigas.
Lady Abigail Weston, é uma mulher da alta sociedade que procura um marido para a sua irmã mais nova. Com influências da sua mãe, já falecida, que diz que a esposa apos o casamento tem obrigações de agradar o marido a toda a força, sendo obrigada a ser consumida sem reclamar de nada. Para esta os homens são do pior que há, aproveitadores das mulheres e que as deixam de uma forma miserável apos o sexo.
Abigail não quer que nada aconteça de mal a irmã e não sabendo o que acontece as mulheres na cama, procura James para que este lhe explique tudo e mais alguma coisa sobre o assunto, pois esta pensava que tanto os homens e as mulheres eram iguais entre as pernas.

This is quite simply very bad porn masquerading as an HR-which normally I'd have no issue with if the author had been definitive on what it was. The end result is that it's neither HR nor erotica-it's muddled in the middle and the whole book suffers. Paper-thin plot and conflict that could easily have been solved by clear communication, and quickly descended into unnecessary cruelty on the H's part and melodrama on everyone else's. The H and his brother never seemed to have grown any older than 5 and 3 when their father supposedly abandoned them. The heroine was the only salvageable character in her determined forthrightness and her intention to simply arm herself with carnal knowledge that could save her sister unnecessary shock and pain in her marriage bed. She's the only reason I'm giving this 2 stars, and she deserved waaaaaay better than to be drawn into H's BS. Still, kudos to her for steadfastly going after the H and refusing to put up with his fake uncaring front, and forcing himself to bare his heart and soul to her.

Este livro, apenas pela sinopse, foi daqueles que me recusei terminantemente a comprá-lo novo. Parecia-me um daqueles livros eróticos que, conhecendo-me como conheço, era para ler e trocar ou vender depois.
Por isso, e enquanto não aparecia um em segunda mão a um preço que eu considerasse razoável, fui lendo os outros da autora.
O exemplar que acabei por arranjar está bastante manuseado. Mas não digo que não arranjarei um em melhor estado, tal é o meu apreço por este livro.
A história que no inÃcio parecia simples, é afinal complexa em sentimentos e atos que não foram compreendidos na altura, tendo gerado consequências catastróficas na estrutura de mais do que uma famÃlia.
Um livro que apesar de ter cenas eróticas, tem bastante enredo para deixar um leitor ou leitora agarrada até ao fim.

Love lessons. Indeed! And in great detail too.
Actually I was beginning to wonder where the story was and decided to give it one more chapter and lo and behold, there the story was. A beautiful, engrossing love story between two characters who came from different walks of life and really should not have had a chance of being together.
The story was easy to read, most of the characters very like-able and all were believable. Oh yes, the hot scenes were very hot! I even learned a thing or two (smile).

Lecții de amor este o carte romantic-erotică, plină de scene fierbinți, cu sentimente intense, personaje interesante, răsturnări dramatice de situații dar și destul umor pe alocuri, care reușește să te captiveze de la prima până la ultima pagină, oferindu-ți ca bonus și un final fericit.

Abigail needs help now that her younger sister is about to debute, so she seeks the advice of the notorious James. What is supposed to just be verbal advice soon turns into more when they can´t restist each other. The first part is fluffy when they start to explore, but soon a twist and a malevolent player appears. We also get to hear about his parents and her sister, so more than one HEA =) Fluffy smut and the problems of the ton in London. A new favorite author.

An intriguing premise, but the characters were so self-absorbed that I frequently found myself hoping they'd be unhappy for the rest of their lives. And the writing itself was florid, imprecise, and ill-paced.

This book was pretty good. I liked the characters, so that made me give it a higher rating. I liked the progression of their relationship and how they changed for the better by the end of the book.

Bom, gostei muito. Não tem aquela super trama, mas simplesmente não conseguia largar.
- O pretexto para que Abgail recebesse as "aulas" e se arriscasse tanto se perdeu logo de inÃcio. Ela explicou porque precisava das informações e logo em seguida quase nem se lembrava mais da irma (Não posso culpa-la porque James é... está vendo? Já me esqueci também kkkk)
- James cheio de problemas com o pai. Ser filho "bastardo" hoje em dia não é fácil, imagine em 1812. A forma como Edward o repudiou na frente dos outros foi de cortar o coração.
- Mas também fiquei seriamente desgostosa com a forma de James "lidar" com sua atração. Saia de perto de Abby e logo ia para a cama das outras. Sério! Me incomodou demais. Não acho bonito homem galinha, muito menos se este se diz apaixonado por uma determinada mulher e sai se esfregando nas outras (Ama... hum hum Cláudia, senta lá).
- Acabou que Caroline, a irmã tão necessitada de informações sexuais nem as teve. Fugiu para se casar com Charles e teria que descobrir na prática.
- Acabei gostando de Angela, mas não acho Edward a altura. Pai de bosta.
- Michel simplesmente some. Cheguei a pensar que se tratasse de uma série e que a história dele seria a próxima. Mas, me surpreendi em saber que é livro único. A última informação é que ele estaria com uma mulher e só.
- Voltando a Abby, a achei um tanto sem sal em alguns momentos, alguns... Pelo menos no final ela superou com louvor a vergonha de expor seu relacionamento com um bastardo libertino. E ele parou de fingir demência para o que sentia.
- As cenas das "aulas" são ótimas, são mais que ótimas, são demais! Entre as melhores que li. Muito bom...........

The first 200 pages of this book were great. I would give that part of the book 4 stars, taking away 1 star from this section because the hero decided to start an affair with another woman after he met the heroine. After the first 200 pages, the story takes a sharp nose dive to 1 star territory. The relationships between the hero, his brother, his mother, and his father were all strange and unrealistic. The author shouldn't have tried to fix a family that has been disfunctional for 25 years within a couple of chapters. There was just way too much going on in the last couple of chapters that had nothing to do with the romance between the hero and the heroine. Every character at some point (mainly during the last third of the book) was annoying or tstl. This book gets one star for being tolerable enough to complete and a second star for the chemistry and steamy interactions between the hero and heroine in the first and middle sections of the book.

La mitad inicial es puro porno barato sin historia. Solo una fantasÃa sexual que se intenta justificar con un romance inexistente. Ya para la mitad final, la autora se acordó de que se supone que una novela debe tener algo de historia entre tanto sexo y escribió algo medianamente interesante. Sin embargo, dado el poco espacio dedicado a la historia, esta es superficial y muy mal desarrollada sin llegar a cerrarse correctamente porque se acaban las páginas y debe reconciliar a los protagonistas con más sexo. Ni siquiera les da el tiempo de conocerse, de entenderse y hablar claramente para solucionar sus problemas. No, las diferencias y conflictos de la pareja principal se solucionan con sexo.

I can see why people rated this so lowly in the reviews. It's ultra angsty and more smuttier than most historical romances, but it's the way it ended that I think I have a problem with it.

I read Michael’s story first and found that James� story (Love Lessons) came before Michael’s story (Total Surrender). So, of course, I needed James� story and I saw a bunch of recommendations for it. I was reading along and it was good but not wow, amazing. However, the more I read the more I realized that this is really James� tale of not be accepted and not being acknowledged so therefore he was afraid to give his heart. Unfortunately, even Abigail contributed a little bit to this but fortunately, she realizes it and get this, mind blown, she is the one in the big grovel scene. I don’t think I have ever read a reversed grovel scene. I absolutely loved it.

I enjoyed these book but some bits I didn’t and rush through. Although I liked the leading male character sometimes he was really nasty. I found too much focus on sex as well. Overall there was so much potential in this book that didn’t meet expectations. Average.
