The night she’ll never forget is the night he can’t remember.
Tori How dare he act like we’ve never met? I thought we connected, but after a steamy one night stand, the hockey hot shot ghosted me, leaving me with nothing but wounded pride and two pink lines on a stick. And not the hockey kind. Well, not this time, bud. You fooled me once, and I’m never giving you a second chance to fool me again. We don’t need you.
Raffi She’s not a forgettable woman, so why does she insist she knows me? One look at her son and it hits me like a slap shot to the chest. The resemblance is undeniable. How can I convince the mother of my child to let me be part of their lives, when I don’t even remember her?
Lasairiona McMaster writes sassy, classy and badassy women and strong, yet vulnerable men.
She challenges reader’s expectations by openly dealing with mental health issues, often exploring tough-to-handle topics and ‘taboos and books with a whole lotta heart.
She can either be found enjoying a gin and lemonade by the Irish sea, or baking sweet treats in her kitchen while singing at the top of her lungs.
When she’s ‘home in Texas, and isn’t eating fresh-popped popcorn while buying things she has absolutely no need for in Target, she can be found at Chuys eating her body weight in chips and queso and washing it down with a margarita swirl.
Was gifted with an ARC of the newest Cedar Rapids book and it did not disappoint! I absolutely loved it!! Victoria and Raffi meet in jail, in a funny fundraiser way, and it turns into an incredible date and night that both of them are desperate for more of. Until Raffi goes down on the ice and forgets everything. Victoria finds herself pregnant and ghosted by the guy who told her he was Loki. Three years later, they meet again.
Reasons I Recommend:
1) McMaster covers important topics like mental health, hockey injuries, and PCOS which was awesome to see and very well done
2) Curvy heroine with a take no nonsense attitude and an amazing hockey team and
3) Amnesia, second chances, amazing hockey players book club, and very steamy.

Daddy? I'm sorry... Daddy? Whew that's how I feel about my man's Raffi over here. After first meeting him and Tori previously, I was so excited to get their love story, and of course, it did not disappoint. I loved so many things about this book. I thought this was a really unique way to do the surprise pregnancy trope because it wasn't really a surprise. I also really valued how much Lasairiona focused on the health and vulnerabilities of her characters. Watching Tori feel seen with her PCOS diagnosis was so important. While I don't have PCOS, or experience the same things she does, I'm a huge fan of strength training for exercise and as someone on the curvier side, it made me feel seen. Speaking of vulnerability, Raffi had plenty of moments too. You could tell he was genuinely learning how to be a father, and I loved watching him grow with the support and help of Tori, his friends, and his family. The friendships in this book were absolutely magnificent and I have to say I loved the book club scene with the little cameos from my boys Austin, Finny, and Linc. Everything about this book was special and it brought out a lot of my own emotions. I cried a few times and watching Tori and Raffi grow as a couple and as a family was so wholesome. But besides that, this book just felt warm. Raffi may have had memory loss, but this man is going to be living in my head rent-free for weeks. The spice was incredible as I expected it would be, and it only fueled the passion Raffi and Tori had for each other. Another goal for Lasairiona because she seriously can't miss. I'm a fan for life. Thank you to her for providing me with an e-ARC to read and review!
What an emotional workout! I smiled, I laughed, I cried and it left my heart happy when the hockey fam brings it all back together again.
Tori is a badass and I love her. Firecracker is most definitely the word. And she's a curvy redhead just like me 😊. I loved her realness managing motherhood, PCOS, the gym and school/work. And the feelings involved with that step into the gym as a fat girl are real. Thank you for calling that out. And Raffi, a total swoon. His own issues and vulnerabilities, so likeable and full of heart. I want one. And Wyatt? The cuteness knows no bounds.
Loved catching up with the de la penas too and other series. But this is a total standout. All the love. So recommended. This is one I'm sure I'll read again when I just need that book hug.
Lasairiona has done it again! Tori and Raffi are a couple you will fall for. While both have their faults, they overcome them beautifully.
What happens after a perfect one-night stand? Well, no one would think that Raffi would then have amnesia and forget the woman of his dreams. And what happens when Tori finds herself pregnant? Well, she can't find her baby's father, because they gave each other fake names.
Read to find out how this tragedy can end up as a happily ever after. Embark on this journey of a single mother, overcoming her PCOS, a 'new' father battling confusions and long-lasting symptoms while discovering their love for each other.
I’ve been looking forward to Raffi and Tori’s story ever since we saw their first interaction in Pulling the Goalie. But I’ll admit I’m not the biggest fan of the amnesia plot line so I was a bit nervous going into the book. I shouldn’t have been though because Lasairiona handled the topic with care and it made sense given Raffi’s hockey career.
Now speaking of Raffi, I adored that man. I mean he had big golden retriever energy, a dirty mouth, and the biggest heart. Plus he played guitar! What more could you want? Tori I loved as well. Along with big heart, she was sassy and had no nonsense attitude. Plus she was an amazing mother to her little boy, Wyatt! Who, by the way, was just too cute to handle! It was amazing to see Tori slowly let Raffi in and the three of them become the family they were meant to be.
As always I have to mention the team! There was plenty of laugh out loud moments because of them but I also found myself getting emotional too. Apollo, Ares, and Artemis especially almost had me in tears because of their support of Raffi and how they immediately brought Tori into the fold.
I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
*I received an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.*
Thoroughly enjoyable read! This is the fourth book in the Cedar Rapids Raccoons series. I loved Raffi and Tori's story. Will Tori give Raffi a second chance when she realises that he can't remember their first encounter? Raffi has some tough decisions to make about his life when his injuries get too severe! Brilliant storyline, wonderful characters, and absolutely loved the HEA. I received an ARC copy of this book from the author, and I'm willingly leaving an honest review.
Emotional, exciting, funny, and adorable!!! It got me in tears because I can’t even imagine going through something like this - a total rollercoaster!!! Raffi is such a nice guy. Tori is such a strong person. And Wyatt is a very important little piece. I love this series and the group of friends in it. They are real family!!! I felt so much with the reference to Adam Johnson how the concussion concept and reality were brought up. Super well done Lasairiona. Tks for the review copy! 🤗🤗
Lighting the Lamp Overall Score ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Heat Level 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Genres/Tropes Hockey Romance Golden Retriever MMC Second Chance Curvy FMC
If I was on my period Raffi and Tori would have made me cry. The beginning of their story is so tragic. Raffi has complete golden retriever energy while Tori is jaded AF. I was so worried going into this story. I wanted Tori's story since we were introduced to her in prior books. But I wondered how Lasairiona would redeem Raffi. All we knew was that Tori was a single mom, that Raffi was the dad, and that he had no recollection of Tori. But let me tell you, he is redeemed and he is now my favorite.
4 Star Review Lighting The Lamp (Cedar Rapids Racoons #5) by Lasairiona McMaster
Having met Victoria aka Tori and Raffi previously, I could not wait to read their story. This was an emotional, at times angsty second chance at love story that had me invested from the start.
Lighting the Lamp was a good addition to the Cedar Rapids Racoons series. All it takes is one night to change the course of a person’s life. For Tori it was a night she has never forgotten but when she finally locates Raffi, he doesn’t remember their night or her.
Tori cannot believe that he has no memory of her or their night together and she refuses to give him another chance. However, life throws curve balls and when Raffi learns that he is a father he is determined to do whatever it takes to get back into her life.
This was an emotional story, well written with characters you cannot help but fall for.
Can hitting your head and forgetting one of the best days of your life bring you true love twice? Raffi is like the king of the cinnamon roll book boyfriend. He will have you falling in love with him before he even makes out of jail! Okay not real jail, but Tori she's a tough nut to crack. Raffi though he's not one to give up! Tori is a vibrant curvy, smart, and loyal friend. She's Eloise's best friend and admittedly dislikes hockey players. This of course makes Raffi more determined to show her how amazing they could be together, because he just knows she's meant to be in his life. At least until he can't remember anything after their first perfect day together. How does that even happen? Tori also considered it an amazing start to something, but they didn't exactly share much about themselves. Except Raffi shared something Tori will treasure forever. When life throws them back into each other's worlds can Raffi convince her again they are meant to be even if he still can't remember the first time. I have voluntarily left this review.
Lighting the lamp is a sexy, second chance, secret baby, college hockey Romance that you won’t want to miss !
Tori and Raffi share an incredible day and night together and she waits for weeks to hear from him again, but she never does. A few weeks later Tori finds out she’s pregnant but thinks she’s been ghosted and has no way to get in touch with Raffi, and she doesn’t even know his real name.
Fast forward three years, Tori attends a hockey game and discovers her son’s father has been there the whole time. Tori is pissed but later discovers that due to his many concussions, Raffi doesn’t remember her.
Raffi realizes that Tori’s son is his and fights to be apart of their lives. The couple goes through a few twists and turns but ultimately get their HEA.
Special mention to Lasairiona for writing about a recent tragedy that rocked the hockey world. As a former athletic trainer for a hockey team, the sudden death of Adam Johnson we difficult to see and hear about. It was a touching tribute to the late hockey star, so thank you for writing that.
Lighting the Lamp is very well written and I’m so thankful I was chosen to receive an ARC!
Raffi and Tori have such a sweet romance and I loved every second of it. Parts of it were heartbreaking, PCOS is something I know first hand, and Ms. McMaster doesn't hold punches when it comes to the experiences. She deals with it in a very realistic way that was so relatable. She doesn't give us a perfect hero either. Raffi is dealing with a severe concussion and all the things that go along with it. I haven't ever experienced that, but I have a neice that's been dealing with one for years and it's very traumatic for everyone. I loved that we got to see both the vulnerability and the strengths in these characters and the way they build and support each other. It was a beautiful love story about two incredible characters, and exactly what I needed right now.
I loved this book! This was all the feels in a good way kind of book. Tori and Raffi's relationship may have started off not in the usual way, had troubles, but oh boy, was it a wonderful journey to read about. I loved everything about this book; the laughs, the drama, the romance, the spice, and the mental & health issues dealt with. There are a few moments in this book where I burst out laughing, so trust me when I say you'll love those scenes too. This is definitely going to be a re-read for me and one I highly recommend!
Swoon! This story with Raffi and Tori is so sweet! They both go through a lot to get where they end up. Having Raffi’s hockey brothers/family in their life is so precious. I loved this!!
Could not put this book down! I was sucked in from the beginning. The fun and hilarious way they met. The drama that unfolded after the meeting. The heartbreak I felt for their situation. The finding a resolve from all the heartbreak!!! Just incredible characters who drew you in and made you fall HARD. Loved seeing some of my favorites from past books and a look at some of the things to come. I love this world and can’t wait to get more ❤️
This was my first time reading a sports romance and O M G, I absolutely loved it! This author did an amazing job with this book! I could not put this book down! I felt all kinds of emotions while reading this book! I look forward to reading more of this series! I think I may have a new type of romance to read! The characters the plot the spicy it was all perfect!
Raffi and Victoria's story is super sweet and of course spicy. But mostly very sweet. Family (particularly chosen family) is a big theme in the series, and this was no different, hello de la Peñas! But I really enjoyed seeing another family dynamic in Victoria being a single mum and how that develops when Raffi comes back on the scene after an accident on the ice causes him to lose his memory.
Victoria's insecurities whilst still being a strong mama was a favourite part and Raffi's gentle patience as they traversed this new world together.
There are some big themes, particularly around injury on the ice, which was dealt with with compassion.
A fast paced, super cute read with Las's signature spice!
I'm convinced everything Lasairiona writes is gold. I always feel when I'm reading her stories, and Raffi and Tori's was no different. Raffi is the most loyal cinnamon roll boyfriend. His whole goal was to not disappoint anyone. When he found out about Tori and his son, you could tell how much his heart hurt. He didn't want to fail them. *swoon* Tori, that girl was so so strong. She needed Raffi to bring out all her sweet hidden underneath that snark. I could have done with five more books of just the three of them ❤️. Lasairiona did a fabulous job of weaving the timeline over the series in this story. You read it, and it's like a light bulb moment when you remember the scene from someone else's perspective in previous books. By far one of my most favorite authors to read. I highly recommend any of her books.
This book was a surprise. A good surprise. It's really good and I really enjoyed it considering the fact that I am not familiar with the author nor do I love sports romance. Sports romance is much more of a hit or miss for me. This one was definitely a hit.
Loved both MC's. The chemistry, the banter, the way they tease each other was so cute. What's even cuter is Wyatt...just read if you wanna know who is this adorable guy. This is kinda insta-love with a golden retriever mmc and a black cat (somewhat jaded) fmc with a side of second chance romance, which is really my catnip so yeah really loved it. The romance was chef's kiss and oh my the spice🔥 the spice is really spicing, I loved how they both know what they want in the bedroom and they really go for it, the consent, the dirty talks? 🔥🔥🔥
Have some tissues ready as well because the found family aspect here is really touching and really plays a big role in the story. Loved all the side characters, from the parents to the friends to the other hockey players, they all served and brought something in the story. Also, the lack of the third-act break up is also a nice reprieve from all the other angsty, dramatic break-ups in books. Overall, very cute and heartwarming story.
I’m so frustrated! The first book in this series hooked me in, it didn’t seem too bad, so I committed to the series but I almost DNF books 2&3 for so many reasons. But this book, this book, hurt! As a standalone, it would have been a solid 4! There were a few minor inconsistencies within the story but other than that it was great, it was an interesting direction to take the trope and it could have been amazing. I laughed out loud, and cried real tears but throughout the whole thing, I couldn’t get over the discrepancies between this and the previous books. The stories didn’t align, the characters story times were all wrong and the confusion it caused me took so much away from the story that I’m just left feeling disappointed. I wished I had stopped in book 2 when I realised things were not aligning to save myself the upset but I thought surely it can’t get worse, surely it gets better. The stories individually are good but as a series it’s a mess. This book was the worst for me though because the wasted potential stung.

Having met Victoria aka Tori and Raffi previously, I could not wait to read their story. This was an emotional, at times angsty second chance at love story that had me invested from the start.

This was an emotional story, well written with characters you cannot help but fall for.
If you love emotional second chance love stories this is the book for you. Lighting The Lamp ( Cedar Rapids Racoons #5) is Tori and Raffi’s journey and for me it’s a great addition to the series. Tori and Raffi had one night and it was a night she will never forgot but when she finally catches up with Raffi he has no memories of that night or even her….. When Raffi finds out he is a father he is determined to make things right but will Tori give him another chance. One click to find out. I was captivated in this emotional story from the first few pages and I needed to know how this journey panned out. Lighting The Lamp is a beautifully written love story with wonderful characters, it has the perfect mix of love, emotion and drama which all adds up to a great read.
Tori and Raffi have an awesome connection. When they act on their feelings, the consequences are evident. When they run into each other again, Raffi doesn’t remember anything about Tori. An awesome read!!
I'm not exactly sure how to start this review because I know my words will never do Lasairiona's words justice. Saying I loved this book with everything in me just doesn't seem like enough. I'm pretty sure hockey runs through this woman's blood, and her passion for this sport is contagious. If you know anything about Lasairiona and her writing, she puts a lot of herself into her characters, as I'm sure a lot of authors do. However, this time, I felt like I was seeing HER as the beautiful Tori. A strong yet vulnerable, tell-it-like-it-is woman who sets a goal and reaches it with a lot of hard work and determination. Is it hard? Absolutely! But she is a force to be reckoned with, so watch out world!
Lasairiona has a way of writing strong women characters like not many others can. They aren't damsels in distress or manipulative, and they don't make you roll your eyes at the crap they try to pull. They're real and such a joy to read. And the men she writes?!? Can we all just agree that we fall for each and every single one of them, over and over again? I mean, I swoon over them from start to finish, from book to book. They are always so full of love and aren't afraid to show it. They have real dreams and feelings, and they have depth.
Lasairiona is a champion for women's health. She sends not so subtle reminders to all the women she knows to make sure to keep on top of our yearly appointments. She is open about her health issues and shares them openly and through her characters. I think this book makes it very clear about what PCOS is and how it can affect a woman. She also sprinkles in what she has learned through her journey and what can help. Who knew weight training could help and how it helps? Lasairiona writes super sexy smut that is educational. Thank you for caring so much and constantly going above and beyond for all women.
Now, let's get to the goods! Tori and Raffi have snuck themselves up into my top favorite characters of all time. The chemistry between them is electric and burns so hot, but their love for each other is so much more. Their connection is undeniable and, in the end, unbreakable. The banter they share is so quick-witted, loving, and sexy. Who doesn't dream of having that with their significant other? And if you do have it, you know just how special that is and how lucky you are.
Raffi's instant attraction to Tori, both times, is something else. He is all in from the start, and he doesn't care what anyone, even Tori, thinks. He just has to find a way to get her to fall for him, too. When he sees his son for the first time, you see the shift in him start. He knows he has even more in this life, and he wants to do everything he can to make sure he doesn't miss out on a second more with both of them. And damn if he doesn't prove it! He loves his friend and family, blood and chosen, with everything he has. He doesn't want to let anyone down and puts so much pressure on himself to make sure their dreams come true, even at the risk of his own health. That is where Tori draws the line. She's not about to let him risk his life and their future anymore. One of my favorite scenes in this book is her yelling at him by his bedside. Inside, I was cheering her on so damn hard with a "you go girl" and a " you tell him." She knew he would never say anything unless she started that conversation for him, so she took charge, kickin' a$$ and takin' names. It was empowering!
Tori and Raffi support each other and their dreams but aren't afraid to speak their minds. Their love is strong and keeps growing. I would love to see where they end up a few years down the road, not that I'm greedy or anything. Ok, yes, I am, but can you blame me???
This book gave me everything I wanted, AND SO MUCH MORE! It gave me ALL the feels, and I was there for each and every one of them. I may have gone through some tissues, but it was so worth every single tear. I may have even ugly cried at more than one point. The fact that this wonderful author dedicated this book to Adam Johnson and wrote his accident into this book tells you the bone-deep love and respect she has for this sport and for those who play it.
Everyone needs to read this book. Hockey fan or not, this story will make your insides go soft and squishy and make you feel everything the characters do. I can't wait for the next book in this series! I can't get enough of this group of people, so much so I think I need to go re-read not only this series but the Snow Pirates, too.
I feel like 5 ⭐️'s isn't nearly enough for this book. Can I give it 10 ⭐️'s? How about 20⭐️'s? That feels like it comes closer to giving it the love it deserves. Lasairiona, as always, you killed it! You are an absolute rock star, and your talent shines through every single word you write. Thank you for yet another wonderfully sweet and super sexy book!
This is Cedar Rapids Raccoons Book 4. When Las gets a new book out, you know you need to read it asap!! She was my first Hockey Romance author and I have grown to love it because of her style of writing. The passion and knowledge is evident in the books she publishes. I was so intrigued about Raffi and Tori. Why did Tori throw the drink on him? Raffi doesn't even know who she was. So when I read the first chapter, I'm like erm why don't you remember her Raffi ??? You have to read and all will be revealed. Raffi is such a romantic and I honestly loved his peppy, funny, cute and smouldering character. He knows his guts never let's him down and he knew Tori is the one for him. No matter what we want, life has other unwanted things planned for us. Tori had sworn off Hockey players be of her cheating ex. I loved that she was a healthy plus size and the life with PCOS was addressed with great information. It's something that is so misunderstood and it's usually the females fault she is that size. Her character is feisty, strong, and didn't hold back on her thoughts. She was a wonderful mum to little Wyatt. Raffi and Tori's chemistry and connection knows they were meant to be. No matter what they both crave each other. I loved how everything progressed between them. I loved the found family in the Hockey team. They are just the cutest but nothing beats the De La Peña’s brothers. They have a heart of gold and Raffi is like a brother to them. The way they stood up to support them, I actually cried. They may have their own faults but they love and are loyal to their loved ones. Great to see their relationships going well too. I still get so happy seeing them having the book club for the guys still going. This book does handle some sensitive subjects around injuries from playing this high flying game. As hard it was, it was really nice for Las to mention Adam Johnson and dedicate this book to him. I did cry again reading about him. It's not nice. Las you wrote another fantastic book. I can't wait for couple more love stories for this series. Definitely Artemis, Athena, and Penny and Tate.
Quotes I Liked:
“This is true. But don’t worry—if you fart while we’re having s3x, I’ll just pretend I didn’t hear it. He winks at me.' 😂
“Shut up, lie back, and give me all your juices, b1tch.
"His smile is warm. “The only time I’ll make you cry from now on is when my c*ck’s down your throat, and I’m here to dry your tears with my tongue.
Victoria (Tori), the female lead, swore off men in general and ice hockey players in particular thanks to an ex. When she ends up in pretend jail due to college hijinks, Raffi, the male lead, having heard her vow, offers a fake mythological name and no background information whilst he attempts to charm her into a date. Tori offers the accompanying fake name and grudgingly agrees to one night, then she grudgingly provides her phone number, only to find herself ghosted and her heart in tatters, left with a surprise neither of them expected and no way to tell him. Now, three years later, she is shocked beyond belief to run into Raffi at an ice hockey game that she agreed to accompany her best friend to. Raffi is extremely attracted to Tori and can’t work out why she hates him. He’s sure he’s never met her before
As their relationship develops, Raffi’s issues with head injury due to ice hockey come to light, including partial amnesia due to a concussion the literal day after their one night together. Tori’s not sure she’s willing to have him in her life when another head injury could take him out at any point but Raffi doesn’t know how to reconcile all the competing factors in his life. Tori also has her own health and well being issues to consider, and then there’s the matter of their son
This long story is dual POV, well written and edited, and a beautiful second chance, contemporary sports romance. I enjoyed that both characters had significant health issues that impacted their choices and decisions and changed how they approached day to day living. I enjoyed Tori’s steel backbone, and the role model and support her mother was to her. I enjoyed Raffi’s determination, persistence, and charmingly optimistic personality. I enjoyed the detailed character development for both characters, and the relationship development it facilitated. I enjoyed the highly integrated secondary characters and the overlap between this story and others in the series (though the story stands alone, it’s enhanced by reading in order). I adored the importance of family, both chosen and biological. I adore this author’s writing - even when I’m in a bit of a reading slump, I can always count on her stories to be engaging and realistically fun, whilst addressing genuine issues.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
What when one unforgettable night for you is one he forgot
Tori and Raffi spent one magnificent night together. But then, to Tori’s shock, Raffi seemed to have ghosted her. Only their one night didn’t go without consequences, as Tori discovered later on to be pregnant. Three years later, their paths cross again and Raffi does not understand how Tori claims that they know each other. Because he is sure that he would never forget a woman like Tori… But seeing Tori’s child, Raffi’s spit image, he knows that the kid is his. Yet Tori isn’t sure to let Raffi back in her and her son’s life, as now it isn’t only her heart on the line. Can Raffi convince Tori to give him a(nother) chance, even if he cannot remember the connection they had three years ago?
How is it possible that with each book this amazing author becomes even more amazing? Because I cannot describe how much I ADORED this book!!! It was just perfection and beyond, and Lasairiona for sure deserves all the possible praise for her latest masterpiece!
Okay, the first chapter had me a little bit confused, as I just didn’t get it. But that initial shock quickly evaporated once the whole picture was given. And in those first chapters, wow, did sparks fly around! I could just feel the heat coming of the pages, because one thing is for sure, Tori and Raffi, they could start a real fire with all that sexual tension between them!
From the blurb, we know that Raffi later on wouldn’t remember his meeting with Tori. And I was very curious to read hat exactly happened. I had an feeling what that would be, and I was glad to see that my feeling was the right one and not that of Raffi being a douchebag. Although Las wouldn’t do that to us loyal fans, have a douchebag as a main character, wouldn’t she
Tori for sure is a force of nature, even if she is way too self-conscious and self doubting (yes yes, pot meet kettle). But even if she gave up her dreams to have lovely Wyatt, we see that she truly is a dedicated mother. Even if things haven’t been easy, she gave it all her best and didn’t regret once having Wyatt. And I for sure understood her wariness in letting Raffi back in her life. Because who in her right mind would let someone like Raffi (or at least her idea of Raffi) back in her life?
I also admired her, because of her having to deal with PCOS isn’t easy. And that on top of everything else. I have to admit, I never heard of PCOS before I read in this book. And it made me realize that while it seems that someone on the outside is doing fine, we can never really know what that person is struggling with. So in a way, this book was even enlightening for me.
Raffi is of course a swoon worthy character. He is an amazing hockey player. But he also shows so many vulnerabilities. Not only the physical ones, like his injuries, but most important the emotional vulnerabilities he is having. He knows what the right thing to do is, but he also fears what it would cost him and his family
And then he sees Tori for the first time, or what he at least believes is the first time. And I have to admit, I absolutely liked it how perhaps subconscious , or just his heart, knew that Tori was it for him. Then him seeing with Wyatt, well my ovaries exploded! It was so so sweet to see how he wanted to get closer to this little family but without crossing any boundaries.
But it wasn’t only Tori and Raffi that *made* this book, it was also seeing the depths of the friendships in in. All their friends would help this pair, anyway they can. In fact, just like they say it themselves, they aren’t just friends, they are family, no matter what and no matter what path life makes them take.
All the characters in this book seem so real, recognizable and likeable. Tori isn’t the perfect young woman, yet she is perfect the way she is. Raffi is troubled by the choices he has to make, yet he is the perfect man. And Lasairiona absolutely kept it real too, without using some magic powder, solving all the issues and fix things. Because that is not how real life works, so why would it work in a book?
I would say that this is absolutely my favourite book of the series, but I would be lying, because I love all the books in the series equally, just like I love each character, cameos and Bacon included! What more can I say to lovely Las than she did an amazing job, gave me everything I needed, expected and even more!
Three years prior Victoria Barnett gets arrested and meets Raffi Shaw also arrested and in the same cell. This was a charity fundraiser where they end up talking the whole time and spend the night together. He really likes her.
Raffi Shaw is a college student and plays hockey. He earned a hockey scholarship but has to play and keep his grades up or he loses it. He realizes that Victoria doesn't care for hockey players so he doesn't mention it during the time they spend together. His next game he gets slammed into the glass and is injured and has suffered a concussion, not his first and has memory loss.
Ten weeks go by Victoria hasn't heard from Raffi and feels ghosted and finds out she is pregnant.
Present day, Victoria had to change her focus in college and find something she could do faster to make money so she's finishing up her photography courses. She has a little boy Wyatt who's 2 1/2. She is out with friends at a bar when Raffi comes up to her but doesn't recognize her. Doesn't end well for Raffi.
He finally gets her to meet him and talk where he explains what happened to him. He also asks her about her little boy and she's shocked he knows.. This begins their relationship.
Raffi is so into Victoria, he would do anything for her. He meets Wyatt and bonds with him. They grow much closer and become a family but Victoria hates that he plays hockey and has gotten hurt and is scared what will happen to him if he gets another injury. It's not if, but when! "What is it?" " I guess I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop." "If you look for walls, you'll find them."
4 stars This is such an emotional roller coaster. She tackles some hard health issues. Kudos!
Victoria Barnett, Tori, comes home to attend the University of Cedar Rapids. She started college out of state when she followed her hockey playing boyfriend. However, he cheated on her and she was homesick, so she transferred back home. Tori gets thrown in fake jail by her friend Jazz for a fundraiser.
Raffi Shaw is put in fake jail with Tori. He pays an extra $100 to stay with her even after hearing her say that she has sworn off men, especially hockey players. Raffi is a hockey player. They chat and call each other by fake character names. Raffi convinces Tori to go on a date once they leave fake jail. They have a great night together. Raffi calls her Firecracker and gets her to give him her phone number.
The next day, at the hockey game, Raffi is hit into the plexiglass and wakes up in the hospital with a concussion. He’s lost any memory of the last 3 days. The last thing he remembers is the morning of the fundraiser. He is clueless about the tattoo of a firecracker and the date under it.
Victoria ends up pregnant from their one-night fling and three years later is still in college but is raising her son Wyatt by herself. Her friend Jazz and most of her other “friends abandoned her. Raffi never called her, and she didn’t know his real name or his phone number. Meanwhile, Raffi is still playing hockey and hiding any headaches or pain because he doesn’t want to lose his scholarship and have to give up getting his degree.
Loved this story. You could feel the emotions both Tori and Raffi had when they meet again. Both characters were so vulnerable and torn up by their circumstances. Also, love having all the players make appearances in each of the stories. I can’t wait for the next story.
