When the local cops were faced with a bombing, one that was similar to ways in the past, they were horrified to learn Arthur Cronin had just been released from prison after ten years. It hadn't taken him long to start on his vengeful and vindictive response to what had happened to his family just prior to him being put inside.

Dawny's husband Desmond was in trouble, working for a Motor Cycle gang - one that cop Lexi Winter used to belong to. Lexi needed to help her colleagues bring Desmond in; find out what was happening within the gang. The new president, Breen, who'd replaced Cronin, was a cruel, take-no-prisoners type of person, but Lexi wasn't afraid of him. With her partner Finn, the two of them entered the world of criminals, determined to do what they set out to do. But Finn was too "cop" and Lexi knew she had to do it alone.

Enter Lexi, cool, calm and unafraid (most of the time). Zander, whom Lexi had befriended when she was part of the MC, was still there, and he was charged with keeping an eye on her. But there was so much going on; too many eyes on her. Would she be able to convince Breen, Rocco and the others to trust her?

is the 3rd incredible episode in the Lexi Winters series by Aussie author and I was hooked! An electric thriller, the pacing was at warp speed, the twists blew me away, and the outcome was spectacular! What a brilliant character Lexi is!! The author has hit the nail on the head with this series and each episode only continues to get better. I'm looking forward to #4 and have no hesitation in recommending and the series, highly.

With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

This series just gets better and better and I love Lexi more and more with each book, Sarah Barrie has created a character who would be hard not love no matter what she does, she is strong, feisty, witty and true to herself as well as being so caring after all she has been through, this was so hard to put down, really hard.

When there is a bomb blast it looks like the crims have blown themselves up, but did they, the police are deep in an investigation and Lexi is working hard but when she gets a call from an old friend, Dawny (yes she is back) needing help with Desmond Lexi ends up in contact with members from the MC she was a part of a long time ago, one who were a big part in where she learnt her special trade of hacking.

Arthur Cronin once president of the MC is back released from prison early and he has revenge on his mind for the death of his wife and child, Lexi is working undercover to rescue Desmond and find out who is doing the bombings and why, Arthur is after criminals and cops and he doesn’t care who he kills in the process, Lexi finds herself in one hell of a situation trying to save the life of a child and things aren’t looking good, which side will Lexi choose, her past or her future?

My heart was jumping throughout this book, I didn’t know where Lexi was going, being back with the MC her old friends Zander, Nate and Freddie and then there are the bad ones Breen and Rocco do they trust her? What are Rachael and Finn thinking about Lexi and what is going on?

This book is brilliant, I highly recommend it, I highly recommend all three books in the series you must read them all in order and if you haven’t you are missing out and woohoo there will be another book and I can’t wait for it to come.

Sarah Barrie’s stories are not to be missed, they are fabulous reads, with fabulous characters good and bad, and this one is edge of your seat suspense action packed but witty and filled with so many emotions as well, many thanks Sarah Barrie for another keeper.

My thanks to Harlequin HQ and Netgalley for my copy to read and review.

This is the third Lexi Winter book in this series and it is just a fast paced and brutal as the first two books. In this book Dawny (Lexi's former, colourful neighbour) surfaces and requests Lexi's assistance. Dawny is horrifed to discover that Lexi is now a 'cop'. Convincing Dawny to trust her and her colleagues, Dawny's situation puts Lexi back in touch with an outlaw Motorcycle gang that she has had associations with in her past.
When some of Lexi's colleagues start to turn against her and question her loyalty to the police, things quickly spiral out of control and in conjunction with Lexi's temper, sees her forced out of the job she is learning to love. On top of this she is hurt to lose the support of people she considers to be family.
Now that Lexi is cut loose, she goes all out rogue and with a bit of insight into the police she fast becomes a powerful force to be reckoned with. There are several twists in this story that I did not see coming, but as brutal as it is, it is also told with some great humour.

**4.5 stars**

Vendetta by Sarah Barrie. (2023).
(Lexi Winter; #3)

**Thank you to Harlequin Australia for sending me a free copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review; published 15 November 2023**

Ace hacker, former sex worker and vigilante Lexi is now a cop and not keen to revisit her criminal past. But when old friends invoke the wrath of a motorcycle club that Lexi used to work for, she races to help them and ends up undercover. To save a child's life she might have to go back to a life she thought she had outrun. And it's even more complicated because the former club president, Arthur, is out of prison and looking for revenge for the murders of his wife and son. Lexi is caught in the middle, torn between old loyalties and new responsibilities. She has to decide whose side she is on...

Lexi is one of my favourite lead characters so I was excited to read this one which is the third in her series; you can read them all as standalones but I'd recommend reading them in order just to get all the context. In this one Lexi's past comes up into her present in the form of a motorcycle club she used to work for and were like her family. It's a gripping storyline as we see Lexi torn between her new life and old life. As usual I loved Lexi's blunt straight-to-the-point attitude while she uses her incredible skills to get justice. There is still a definite will-they-won't-they vibe with Lexi and her police colleague Finn that gets slightly more complicated in this book so I'm interested to see where it goes from here.
Overall: highly recommend for those who enjoy gritty crime thrillers. I can't wait for the next instalment.

The 3rd book in the Lexi Winter series unearths even more of her past as she continues to transition from hard-drinking, computer hacking prostitute to crack homicide detective. It turns out you can also add criminal bikie gang consort to her colourful past.

Lexi has received a call from Dawny suggesting she might like to come over because she and Desmond may have gotten themselves into a bit of a pickle. It seems that Des has been ordered, by a local Motorcycle Club (called Combat Crew) to dispose of a body off a wharf at Patonga Beach.

The fact that Dawny and Desmond are innocent-looking pensioners with a folksy manner belie the fact that they’ve both been involved in some pretty shonky shenanigans in the past. Their early involvement here gets things off to a spirited start.

It seems the former president of Combat Crew, Arthur Cronin, has recently been released from prison where he’d served time for importing crack cocaine. It’s just possible he’s now running around settling old scores after family members were killed while he was in prison and the fact he’s doing it with C4 explosives makes him a dangerous guy to be around. Even worse, it appears that cops may have been involved and have managed to put themselves on his revenge list.

There’s now a new MC president in town, Breen, and he’s a hard man who’s prepared to take the club down the outlaw road big time. Drugs, guns, revenge attacks, you name it and he’s prepared to do it. The homicide detective unit, headed by Detective Inspector Rachael Langley and ably assisted by Detective Sergeant Finn Carson, are on the case and they once again rope Lexi in to provide much of the on-the-ground expertise.

But it could be that Lexi’s past is just a little too racy and the standard resentment that seems to permeate through most office environments has put her in the crosshairs of a couple of her fellow officers. The question of whose side she’s really on comes up and, undercover or otherwise, she finds herself on the side of both the angels and the devil.

The Lexi Winter series has settled into a familiar routine typified by the tough nosed attitude that has made her such an interesting character to follow. With many of the regular characters returning from the earlier books the series is developing nicely in depth. The action is swift and dialogue remains clipped and sharp, particularly within the police ranks.

In many ways this is a shocking and explosive thriller that recalls sins of the past and asks serious questions of everyone involved. Once again, however, the main obstacle in the way of any really effective police work being done falls at the feet of the police themselves and the draconian rules that hamper them at every turn.

If your lead character is a former prostitute, one time vigilante, computer hacking expert who’s now a police officer, then of course she’s also going to have some links to a bikie gang. That’s what makes Lexi Winter such a pleasure to read about and it’s also what gives this series its sting in the tail.

3.5

While I enjoyed this 3rd outing with Lexi Winter and co, there were a couple of things about it that slowed the momentum for me, making it slightly more putdownable than the previous books in the series. The first was the MC (motorcycle club) focus, which was just too foreign for me and frankly unpalatable, while the second was what I felt was unrealistic interagency 'cooperation' (which was only quite minor, so more of a niggle than a complaint).

But the good parts:
* Dawny is back!
* Lexi has more backstory, including a found family
* The terrific trio of Lexi, Rachael and Finn doing what they do best
* One of Rachael's team members gets more development than we might have expected
* Several excellent twists

Overall, cements the Lexi Winter series as one of the top contemporary thriller series coming out of Australia. I hope there is more on the way.

Oh how I love Lexi Winter and I am so excited for another book. Our favourite vigilante cop is back in Vendetta and it is a wild ride. It might be a long book but it flew by, you just have to keep turning those pages to see what would happen next.

Dawny is back!! I missed her in the last book but she is back and she brings trouble with her. Lexi to rescue.. landing herself in more trouble. And this time it is even more dangerous and she comes face to face with her past life. Dead bodies, books, motorcycle gangs. She finds herself on the outer and struggles to know who she can trust. How is she going to get herself out of this situation? a well you need to read it to find out.

Lexi is still the badass, act first think later character that fans of this series love. Vendetta will tal
Le you in a roller coaster ride and back again. Clear your diaries, you won’t want to put it down.

The much anticipated Lexi Winter #3 is here!

In Vendetta, Lexi finds herself with no one to turn to for help, once again relying on her hacking skills to keep herself alive. It is not only Lexi's life that is at stake.

Dawny is back in book 3 and she is in fine form. Her quick wit and sarcasm cracks me up.

Lexi is still not sure if the police force is the right job for her when people from her past pop up again in her life.
Lexi didn't disappoint! She was tough and wanted it all her way, she doesn't concede to anyone, police or criminal.
The suspense ramps up as the pages turn and I was worried this could be the case that destroys Lexi.

The book ends on a teaser which makes me feel that the next book is going to be even more heart-stopping - if that's possible!!

Vendetta is fast-paced and suspenseful, readers following the Lexi Winter series will not be disappointed.

Lexi Winter is at it again in this gritty, suspenseful crime thriller from Sarah Barrie.

Lexi is an ace hacker, former sex worker and vigilante-turned-cop, who is now tangled between old loyalties and new responsibilities.

In Sarah Barrie style, this is an addictive and fast-paced story with a well-written plot.

Some little teasers for you before you dive into the new Lexi Winter outing:

A bunch of bikies who aren't exactly law abiding citizens
A 'what if' scenario where we see a Lexi who wasn't given a chance.
Betrayal and disloyalty
Both Lexi and Cass's past explored more in depth. They've actually met before.
Dangerous situations that Lexi will have to infiltrate before people die
Finn's developing relationship with a colleague
Impossible decisions to make
Old scores being settled
Rachael's work ethics being questioned
The return of an old friend that requests Lexi's assistance in a problematic matter.

Vendetta is one action packed read full of epic and explosive proportions. I refused to believe what was before my eyes at times. Not too sure on a newbie to the team at this stage. Brighton's a bit full-on.

Dawny and Desmond are back too with their knack for landing in deep water. Still, Dawny is the same hilarious and random senior citizen as ever, leaving a trail of mayhem in her wake.

Get ready and prepare yourselves for November 15.

Thanks to Harper Collins Australia for a preview copy.

🏃‍♀️The good news is Lexi Winter, vigilante turned cop is back in Vendetta, the bad news is that she has some old foes to deal with in this latest thriller showcase from Sarah Barrie. In true Lexi Winter style, this sassy and tough as nails law enforcement officer deals it the crooks in her own way, with explosive results!

🏃‍♀️Number #3 in the Lexi Winter series came to me via the publisher, Harlequin Australia in November 2023. I’ve enjoyed Sarah Barrie’s Lexi Winter series from the beginning, so it was great to receive the latest instalment in this collection. The beauty of having read these books in order is that I can pretty much delve right in with no orientation processes involved, which is a fabulous feeling.

🏃‍♀️This time around, Lexi really faces a dilemma, she must work between her old and new life in order to save a child. The result is tussle both emotionally and physically. This kind of situation would really test an ordinary person, but Lexi seems built to cope with the drama of it all! Supported by a network of good buys and bad, returning characters and new faces, Lexi takes on the world yet again, with success. Expect deadly gangs, head honchos with a murderous streak, big bangs, violent happenings, risky situations, danger abound, alliances tested, infiltration efforts, hard going choices, suspect moves, shady events, work ethic problems and relationship issues in this high-flown tale. With plenty of suspense, intensity, tension and surprises, the reader is kept on edge throughout. It was good to be in the company of Lexi Winter and her team in Sarah Barrie’s latest drawcard, Vendetta!

4.5 stars for bad-mouthed, “bad-attituded, bad-assed Lexi Winter!

Book Three brings Lexi Winter’s past crashing into her future. Her association with a motorcycle club (of the worst kind) is here to haunt her and suck her back in. The scenes in this part of the novel are dark, gritty, and occasionally stomach churning. It is also the aspect of the book I found myself dragging through.

Persevere, as everything comes together and the strong female characters in this novel get to really shine. Complex, conniving and incredibly clever. The crime is brilliantly constructed, the characters have grown exponentially and the teaser at the end - bring on Book Four.

An outstanding Australian series!

just love the character of kick-ass vigilante Lexi Winter and here we are again with a new release by , so exciting!

You are in for a wild ride, Lexi now a newly minted cop goes wild in this book and an old favourite Dawny is back wanting Lexi’s assistance and creating mayhem. Lexi faces people from her past life, a motorcycle gang! The reckless behaviour and actions she takes in this book makes you think how is she ever going to keep her job.

Cass a detective sergeant is also in trouble and has been hiding something, could it be that Lexi and Cass have a past where they have met before.

Vendetta is explosive and packed full of action, I couldn’t put it down. If you love a good crime series with a likeable female lead, you should pick this one up.

Another entertaining read in this series. Lexi is a great character and Dawny was back for this one. The situation Lexi found herself in and how it panned out seemed completely improbable to me but somehow it all worked. (Except for how annoying Finn has become and I would’ve liked to see that Brighton woman smacked down.)

“Cop or criminal? When you're undercover, the lines can get a little blurry.

My Thoughts:

Vendetta is the third exciting instalment in Sarah Barrie’s series featuring vigilante turned cop, Lexi Winter.

I love Lexi, she’s smart, brave, and kickass, if also somewhat reckless and unpredictable. She doesn’t hesitate when her former neighbour Dawnie asks for her help to rescue Dannie’s husband Morris, and reacts quickly when she is unexpectedly confronted by her past. It’s not an easy thing for her to do, but with the stakes escalating Lexi has no choice but to revive old affiliations, and go undercover with the one of the city’s most dangerous motorcycle gangs.

Still struggling with all of the rules that come with her new job as a police officer, Lexi’s issues with some of the more inflexible members of the force, including her spiteful colleague, Cass, come to a head in Vendetta. This leads to a very tense situation amongst the team, leaving Lexi wondering just who deserves her loyalty. I enjoyed the drama that played out, and the surprise twists that unfolded.

There’s plenty of suspense and fast paced action in this instalment too. Lexi’s life is at risk, not only from the violent members of the motorcycle club, but also from a former gang member looking for explosive revenge against both the club, and the police.

With its fantastic lead character, tense drama, and thrilling action, the Lexi Winter series is an excellent crime series, and Vendetta another absorbing read. I can’t wait for the next one.

Vendetta is the third book in the Lexi Winter series about a former escort turned police officer in central New South Wales, Australia. It’s helpful but not essential to have read the two previous books, Unforgiven and Retribution, to understand the characters and their relationships. These are gritty police procedural thrillers with a recklessly brave heroine and good support cast.

Lexi is still recovering from injuries sustained in her last case when she is persuaded to go back undercover into the world she thought she’d left behind to help rescue her friend Dawny’s husband - the violent misogynistic biker club she hung out with as a teenager. If they discover her new profession they’ll kill her, so Lexi must use her exceptional hacking skills to ingratiate herself, but then she is betrayed by her own team, and must decide once and for all which side of the law she belongs on.

I’ve really enjoyed these fast-paced tense thrillers - Lexi started out as a vigilante, but is now constrained by the rules - just about - but will still always do what she thinks is right, over what the law says. This has a mad bomber going on a revenge spree and I was genuinely nervous for certain characters. Looking forward to plenty more of Lexi’s adventures please!

Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Australia for the ARC. I am posting this honest review voluntarily. Vendetta is published on November 15th.

Vandetta is book #3 in the Lexi Winters series by Australian author, Sarah Barrie. I’m absolutely loving this thrilling series, so far. In Vandetta, we see a tougher, angrier side to Lexi. After being thrown out of the police force, Lexi returns to her old life as a computer hacker for a notorious bikie gang. Lexi’s relationships with Rachael and Finn from the Gosford homicide team becomes strained and a criminal from Lexi’s past is seeking revenge for a horrific crime. Thanks to NetGalley for my ARC.

Book three of the Lexi Winter series is quite the ride.

Barrie turns the seemingly implausible storyline of Lexi working with detectives when she’s still a probationary constable on its head by having Lexi get fired from the force and, while still bitter about that, return to live with a motorcycle club she was involved with when she was a teenager.

The club’s portrayal is how I would imagine an Aussie motorcycle club. That is, the members are just walking that fine line between absolutely evil criminals and those who are looking to simply fit in somewhere.

Between the motorcycle gang and the members of the new police taskforce (who are charged with investigating the gang and their former leader), Barrie introduces a lot of new characters and subplots and, surprisingly, they all worked. There’s also the familiar characters from the former installments, including the wonderful Dawny, who is a real scene stealer again.

Barrie kept the pace and action rolling along. The reader definitely never gets the chance to become bored. She’s announced that the fourth book will be the last Lexi book and, really, that feels right. I’m not sure I would like Lexi to become stale and cliche.

is the third compulsively thrilling read in 's gritty yet darkly humorous series featuring hacker, former sex worker and vigilante - turned maverick police officer Lexi Winter.

Still recovering physically from the events of (Lexi Winter #2), Lexi receives an urgent summons from her old friend and neighbour Dawny (who series readers will recall as a larger-than-life character from (Lexi Winter #1). She and her partner Desmond have become embroiled with an outlaw motorcycle club, Combat Crew, with Desmond ordered to dispose of a body at nearby Patonga Wharf.
description
Going undercover, Lexi is drawn back into the world she inhabited as a teenager, when as a low-ranking female hanger-on of the Combat Crew, she made alliances, learned who to avoid and began learning the computer hacking skills that remain so useful in her current role as a NSW police officer.

It transpires that former club boss Arthur Cronin has recently been released from a long stint in prison, and is hellbent on avenging the deaths of his wife and son, targeting one by one those he holds accountable, leaving a trail of violence in his wake. Spurned by many of her police colleagues after her past within the Combat Crew is revealed, Lexi is left with little option but to embed herself within the club, working from the inside to curtail Cronin's bloody vengeance before it hits close to those for whom she feels responsible.

is a fast-paced and twisty thriller, with plenty of intrigue around the workings both of the MC (motorcycle club) and within the police investigation running concurrent to Lexi's undercover activities. There are many surprising revelations and insights into what has shaped the attitudes and behaviour of supporting characters. Lexi remains a beguiling lead character, with her horrific past in the shady world of organised crime and underage prostitution. Cut loose from the support networks that have kept her (mostly) on the right side of the law, she must draw on all her reserves of intellect, cunning and bravery to survive and prevent further tragedy.

has created a compelling series, quite different from her previous rural romance - mystery novels, and a memorable lead character in Lexi Winter. I'd highly recommend and its predecessors and to any reader who enjoys gritty, fast-paced crime thrillers with a distinctly Australian flavour.

My thanks to the author, , publisher Harlequin Australia / HQ (Fiction, Non Fiction, YA) / MIRA, HQ, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this title.

Big thanks to Harlequin for sending us a copy to read and review.
In book three, Lexi Winter is more determined than ever to do right from her dark past.
A gutsy tale that’s action packed, explosive, bold and brazen.
Lexi is now a cop and her next assignment is associated with her history.
She goes undercover to help friends and scrutinise a motorcycle club.
But past foes are out of prison and out for revenge.
And Lexi is right in the middle of all the chaos..
Lexi is sassy, gallant and fearless and it stands out in this gritty plot.
A very likeable lead character that’s not perfect and has many flaws.
Her crime solving adventures continue here and her past is not far behind.
After sitting patiently on my reading stack for just over a year, I’m happy to announce that I can read the final book, Endgame very soon and not have to wait.

4.5 ⭐️ If you love a gripping read and haven’t picked up the Lexi Winter series yet, then you absolutely must!

This is book 3 in the 4 book series & it just gets better with each book! I am absolutely hooked and cannot wait for the upcoming release of ENDGAME to see what happens to Lexi & how it all ends.

I won’t discuss the plot as I don’t want to give anything away, but this book had me HOOKED. I honestly couldn’t figure out how Sarah Barrie was going to bring this story to a conclusion.

This novel is brutal. The twists kept twisting & couldn’t put the book down. VENDETTA also saw a development I wasn’t expecting (no spoilers here), but am now gunning for in the next book!

A true page-turner.
Highly recommended.
Bring on ENDGAME!

Oh man, I thought I had read Retribution, book 2 in the Lexi Winter series however on checking my list and the eAudiobook loan history on my BorrowBox app I see that I have not. No wonder I found it a bit hard to get into Vendetta. There is another series I’m reading where the protagonists name is Lexie and other book series with the authors name Sarah so, it’s not surprising that it got confusing lol.

Anyhow, it was still a good read, isn’t it always when there is a criminal bikie gang and, a witty, feisty, former sex worker turned cop at the centre?

Gritty, real and suspenseful.

eAudiobook of Retribution is reserved and I look forward to listening to the 2nd instalment to catch up on what I’ve missed of Lexi’s story.

ARC kindly received via NetGalley for an honest review.

This is one of my new favourite crime series. I absolutely love reading about Lexi and the team, and this one definitely threw some curve balls at me. There's a lot going on, a lot to understand, and in the end I had quite a few surprises. I really liked how things turned out, and must admit I was trying not to shed a tear at some points. I hope we see more of Zander and Rodger in the future and I'm torn between Lexi hopefully being with Finn or with Zander. Loved this one and absolutely cannot wait for more. Lexi is badass!

This is another engaging read in the Lexi Winter series. Lexi is a really unique character and one I love reading about. I love Lexi's grit, intelligence, determination and strength. These characteristics are perfectly offset by her sense of dark humour. It just works on so many levels. Really pleased to see the return of Dawny and I liked the edition of new characters (including her new house guest) that I hope make it into the next book. I could have done without Olivia though...

The crime/plot seemed a little convoluted and over the top and I am not a big fan of the MC storyline, but this was still an engaging read and I eagerly await the next book in the series.

A-freaking-mazing

These are just some of the things I said as I was reading Vendetta.

This series has quickly become a must read for me.

I knew this installment of the Lexi Winter series was going to be one that I would enjoy, but boy that was an understatement.

You will need to have read the first two books (Unforgiven and Retribution) to get the whole Lexi story (and believe me, you want to get the whoooole story).

The emotions I felt reading Vendetta, though, were unexpected.

I felt anger, hurt, disappointment. All the things that Lexi was feeling as she embarked on this part of her story.

I don't want to give too much away, as this story is one you just need to immerse yourself in and just be there as everything unfolds.

In the words of Molly, do yourself a favour and buy this book, you won't be disappointed.

I love Sarah Barrie’s books, I love the Lexie Winter series but truth be told I nearly put this one as DNF at around 40%, I found it was getting a bit too dark for me at this present time.
But I must have hit a reading spurt and got over the bump and then I was hooked..
Lexie returns in this thriller, motorcycle gangs, vendetta’s, the fed’s, I didn’t know which direction this story was going and once it got me, it had me good.
Glad I wasn’t disappointed.5 stars for the second half of the book.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy to read.

Lexi Winter is back! And I couldn’t be more excited.

This is book number three in the Lexi Winter series and I absolutely loved it. Dawny is back and of course she has brought trouble with her Trouble being Desmond has been taken hostage by a local motorcycle gang the exact same motorcycle gang Lexi was involved with many moons ago! This makes the investigation a whole lot more messy and interesting. To make things even more insane Arthur Cronin has been released from prison. With dead bodies, C4 and the bikie gang this book has everything.

You are in for a roller-coaster of emotions and edge of your seat / nail-biting intensity when you read Vendetta. I could not put this book down (trust me it was hard to do but Mum duties). I'm so happy we got more of Dawny in book three, she is such a character. As this is book three in the series you will need to read books one and two to understand Lexi better and the dynamics of how everything works.

Thank you Netgalley and Harlequin Australia for sending me a gifted copy of this e-book for my honest review.
