REVIEW: I am a fan of several of Katie Reus’s series and her Red Stone Security series has been one of my favorites this past year. But saying that, I found His To Protect a bit of the same old thing. In each storyline, our hero finds the lost love of his life: the one that got away; the one he would die to protect; or his second chance to make things work-but the female in question is pulled into circumstances that will put her very life in danger. His to Protect is no different but there is a catch in this particular storyline: Charlotte, the woman who kicked him to the curb one year prior, has returned with their three month old son-surprise!
Once again, the heroine must be moved and secluded to protect her from the people wishing to cause her harm. For a security firm, they have a difficult time protecting their loved ones from gangs, drug runners and street thugs. Kell and Charlotte are separated from each other for part of the storyline and because of this I didn’t feel the connection between the couple. I wanted more one on one time-even a few late night phone calls would have helped.
Welearn very little about Kell and even less about the couple’s past together-I would have liked to read more about their relationship, both past and present-but this is a novella and perhaps Katie didn’t have the time or space to build upon character development. Kell is an alpha male but one with a heart and soul. There are a few cameos from Red Stone Security members like Travis (growl) connecting this particular story to the series. And saying that, if you are new to the series, each novel can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty.
His To Protect is a novella; a quick read that has a little romance, a little sex, a little suspense and a little intrigue. For a lazy afternoon read, His To Protect is a wonderful choice.
My Review: Overall.... 4.0 Performance... 4.0 Story.... 4.0
I only listen to audiobooks while I'm doing my household chores each week and honestly, I try not to spend too much time in those chores each week. As a result, it can sometimes take me over a month to get through a full audiobook. That's a bit too much time to invest, but that's where this audio was perfect for me. I'm a romantic suspense girl and with just over 3 hours of audio on the unabridged version of this story, it was perfect for me.
And in this book, that shortened story worked for me simply because Kell and Charlotte have their history behind them. Kell loved Charlotte for years, but she was married to his best friend. A best friend that she found out was cheating on her after his death. In the midst of the confusion of her husband's death, they got swept away with desire and had a one night stand. Kell wanted it to be so much more. Charlotte couldn't handle that and fled. Then she had a baby...Kell's baby.
This story takes place when that baby is three months old...so basically a year after their single night. Like I said, I'm not sure if this shortened story would have worked for me without their history. Charlotte also realizes that she did Kell wrong by not getting in touch with him when she got pregnant. I love that she owned up to that and instead of bristling at Kell's edicts, she agrees that he has some valid reasons for his demands. That was such a turnaround from most hidden baby stories and I liked the change. Also, the high drama of the situation (she stumbles on a murder) makes their sudden closeness even more believable.
I liked this one. I think the narrator did a great job on the audiobook and I love the short time needed to commit to this book. I plan to listen to more of the Red Stone series this way. I hope they all play out as well for me. I think that they will.
Suspenseful and sexy, this was another enjoyable read in the series! I loved the familiarity between Kell and Charlotte. They had been apart for a year, changed, and yet they still craved each other with such intensity. They were good together both very likeable characters, but I didn’t like that she fought her feelings for him. Still, I was happy they got their HEA.
Don’t know whose story is next, but I hope to see Vincent soon.
In His to Protect, we have a hero who is an ex-FBI Agent. Don’t worry—he still has all of the FBI hotness. Kell Malone might be working private security now, but the guy definitely knows how to get the job done. He uses his FBI training in an edge-of-your-seat adventure. Steamy and intense, this book had me hooked on all of the Red Stone Security Series books by Katie Reus. —Cynthia Eden ()
Charlotte and Kell what a story one night in heaven together, a baby lot's of secrets in this one blocking the love then add in Charlotte witnessing a murder that then involves the cartel and dirty cops and really you have no end of trouble talk about an exciting ride.
I had the pleasure of reading all five of the Red Stone Security books in a condensed period of time and found several themes: 1) A love for the dominant, alpha male who will also care for the ones he loves. 2) The idea that once you meet the one you’re supposed to be with, your true mate, a part of you instinctively knows it. 3) Amusing interactions; witty, strong-willed women; and intense sex scenes.
In His to Protect, Reus spins a tale of intense love, past scars and a melding of two souls into one, whether the characters want it or not. Charlotte and Kell spent one night together a year before, after the finality of Charlotte’s relationship with her husband. Kell had loved her from afar for years but respected the sanctity of marriage and kept his distance. But that one night was one that neither of them forgot especially when Charlotte had a daily reminder as she found out she was pregnant with Kell’s child. She returns a year later, their son three-months-old. Of course, Kell doesn’t know this yet, but spots her across the room at a party by first noticing her delectable derriere and, of course, recognizing it to be hers. The story continues as he tries to convince her to live with him for a bit, so he can get to know his son, and, though he doesn’t tell her, so he can win her for life. This becomes a necessity when she witnesses a murder and needs to find a safe place to stay. Kell steps up and protects her (hence: the title). I enjoyed in this book what I’ve enjoyed in Ms Reus other books, as I mentioned before. She believes in a strong, independent female lead. She believes in strong, alpha men who will do most anything to protect their women. She believes in the power of family and loyalty and love. I was swept away by the story, wishing that men like Kell (and the other men of Red Stone Security) were a daily occurrence for women everywhere but mostly for me. Tempers flash, wits clash and the sex scenes are HOT! So read on, readers I encourage you to start from book one in the series, , and go on from there. I, for one, intend to follow this series to its conclusion and have already begun to pick up her other books. Enjoy! I sure did!

I have enjoyed all of the books in the Red Stone Security series and this one is no different. Kellen (Kell for short) has been in love with Charlotte since he first met her, however, she was married to another man and one of Kell's friends, so he kept his distance. Time passes, Charlotte's husband passes away, and we learn they were headed for divorce due to his infidelity. Kell and Charlotte spend a night together that neither of them can forget. He tells her he loves her, but she runs. A year later, Charlotte shows up to tell Kell they have a son.
Kell is shocked that Charlotte didn't tell him sooner about his son. Not one to waste time, he asks (insists, really) that Charlotte and their son, Reece, move in with him so he can spend time with both of them. Charlotte isn't so sure because she is worried about falling for Kell and possibly getting her heart broken (like it did with her husband), but her guilt for not telling Kell sooner causes her to agree. Shortly after that, Charlotte witnesses a murder in an alley as she is out at the park with her son. The murderers realize this and she is then on someone's hit list and it is up to Kell and Red Stone to keep her safe.
Katie does a great job with this story. She writes a nice balance of suspense, romance, and some steamy passion. I love second chance stories, so this one was great. Not one to want to let go of characters from other books, I was glad that this one included several members of Red Stone and their wives/significant others including Lizzy and Noel. I also enjoy books that include kids/babies so having Reece in this one and getting to see Kell love on his three-month-old son was great!
Favorite quote: "Greedy and impatient. One of the hundred things I love about you." - Kell to Charlotte.
If you are looking for a romantic suspense that is a quick read, romantic, passionate, and includes a very sweet little baby that win's over tough Security experts, I highly recommend you try this story! You can read any of the Red Stone Security books on their own, so if you haven't read the others, you can still pick up this one and enjoy it.
I've been really enjoying re-reading the RED STONE SECURITY series and though I liked this one, it wasn't one of my favorites. The action and suspense was good as always but Kell doesn't necessarily act as Charlotte's bodyguard. Instead she's sent to stay with Lizzy and Porter in their super protected high rise. It makes sense but I always like when the hero acts as a bodyguard for the heroine. There was also an interesting twist in the end that I found unique for a romantic suspense.
Kell was a great hero and I liked that he was the one with all the feelings to start since it's usually the woman who has been crushing on the man. Charlotte was overwhelmed by Kell's feelings a year ago but now she's in a better place and she's pretty open to working things through with Kell, especially for the sake of their baby. Kell really steps up when he finds out he's a father and he has no problem getting involved in Reece's life, after all he's still in love with Reece's mom. I only wish that there was an indication that Kell had tried to get Charlotte back at some point during their year apart.
My biggest problem with this book was the secret baby trope, which is probably my least favorite trope. This one redeems itself somewhat because Charlotte comes clean a few months after having the baby, instead of several years later. Once she tells Kell, they pretty much just move on from the secret and Kell works to convince Charlotte that he still wants her. Granted, they have a lot going on with murder investigation, but I think there should have been more to the reveal of the baby. Kell never really gets angry over what he missed and I felt like the ease with which they move on was unrealistic.
Kell is working a security detail when he spots a woman he has not seen in over a year, a woman he still wants and yearns for. The problem is that just like the last time they were in the same room together she repeats the same action and moves as far away from him as quickly as possible. Charlotte knows that she has to finally tell Kell about Reece. She just wants to do so under different circumstances than a party she is attending with her family. Kell is the perfect caring alpha in that he won’t let her slip through his fingers this time.
I think because I am not a mother I cannot relate to any of the choices Charlotte made in regards to Kell and their baby. The fact that she never told him about the baby made it impossible for me to like her. I wanted to like Charlotte, Kell obviously likes her, and I wanted to feel the same. Kell is an easy hero to just love. His immediate unconditional love of Reece is so very sweet. He is a determined man. He wants Charlotte, he wants their baby in his life, and he will stop at nothing to see this to the end.
Charlotte has not been back in Miami long when she witnesses a murder. The people involved in the murder put her in even more danger than just witnessing a crime could ever do. The romantic suspense element, especially the solution to the threat against Charlotte seemed convenient. The reasoning behind the solution to the threat working out is however plausible.
Each book in the Red Stone Security series works as a stand-alone. A few of the characters from the previous books have small roles in other books. The books in this series can be read in any order.
I was a bit apprehensive prior to starting this story. As a general rule: I do not like my romance mixed with children, pregnant heroine, or newborns. This is my rule. Typically the romance tends to be overshadowed by the children, impending birth, or life with a newborn (too real life for me). I am happy to state the author did not fall into this trap. Yes, the baby is a part of the story but more secondary to the plot than the main focus-just the way I like it. The author does a great job of balancing all facets (the romance, the baby, and the suspense) of the story.
You did not have to wait long for Kell and Charlotte to meet. I fell for them at Chapter 1. Their attraction to one another is so palpable that it nearly leaps off the pages. I liked that Kell always had feelings for Charlotte and did not shy away from them when he found out about his son. If anything, he forged full steam ahead. I also appreciated that Charlotte did not play games with Kell. She is a strong caring mother but knows and understands that Kell should be given the opportunity to be with his son. These two have an unusual back story and the author shares this with the reader at the right time in the right way. This story had all elements that I like in my romance: lost love, smexiness, and suspense. This was the right book to start off my new year.
Katie Reus has found her niche in writing strong heroines. When I reach for one of her books I am guaranteed two things: strong heroine and a smexy hero.
This one wasn't my fave. Not enough action for me. Too much baby talk, I mean, come on, the kid is 3 months old do you really have to hold him every second of the day? I was annoyed. I have 2 kiddos myself and there were other things for us to do, like perhaps a swing, bouncy seat, play mat, tummy time, etc.
Also, absolute #1 rule was broken for me...if you know who the daddy is TELL HIM! He has every right to know. NOT 3 months later! IMMEDIATELY!
So yeah, not my fave, but still a good read.
Oh and how are all these women ending up pregnant if they are on the pill? Lizzy wasn't, but the others were. Makes no sense to me unless they stopped taking it and got pregnant RIGHT AWAY! I know, I know...there's that 1% chance, but come on.
Can't wait til April so I can read Iris' story. Then Mr. GQ Vincent.
CAN THE WHOLE BORING AS HELL "CRAZY" EX STORYLINE JUST STOP IN BOOKS PLEASE. I am so over it already.
I can't get over the heroines actions in this. I'm currently in the middle of a really difficult pregnancy so I can almost understand not telling him when she was pregnant, because you really do have to avoid any kind of stress. BUT no way in hell does she have an excuse for not telling him for the first three freaking months of the baby's life! He will never get those first three months back. It's just selfish and seriously cruel.
The action side was completely pointless! The good guys did absolutely nothing, it was the bad guy that basically saved her life.
Today I saw at my email pile that this book was out and I immediately grabbed the opportunity to read it.Once again Katie Reus outdid herself.I really liked it I would just prefered it to be longer and also the two main characters needed to spent more time together.I felt as though their relationship was rushed!!! PS:I forgot to read the previous book(I don't know hhow that happend)but I plan to read it soon(as in,in two days matter)!!!
This audiobook seals the deal, I have become totally hooked on anything Ms Reus writes. This story is part of the author’s series Red Stone Security, and if like me , you haven’t read them, rest assure that it’s a stand alone. The main characters are Kell and Charlotte. He is a member of the Red Stone Security company, a former SEAL and FBI agent who a year ago spent an unforgettable night with Charlotte. Charlotte, whose deceased husband had been an FBI agent , left that night when Kell made a confession. Now a year has gone by and he sees her at a party the Red Stone Security has been hired to keep the safe. A shock for both , but an opportunity that Kell will not pass up . He wants a chance to talk with her. Little does Kell know that Charlotte has kept a secret from him. Things get even more complicated when she witnesses a murder. This is a fast paced story filled with suspense, murder, bad cops, the Cartel, a crazy woman, a baby, hunky guys and of course , romance and the possibility of second chances. I must add that the narrator did an excellent job with the voices and his intonation. I was gifted this audiobook. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
I love this series. Each book reads as a standalone, so you can read one, skip a few, read another book, and never feel like you've missed something. Each story offers Romance, action and suspense. so far I have enjoyed each book that I have read.
In this book, Charlotte had moved to town to let Kell know he was a father. The baby boy was 3 months old. Kell, and Red Stone Security stepped up to protect Charlottes, and her son. Charlottes was out walking with the baby, when she saw a man get murdered. Afterwards she became a target. The man didn't want to leave behind any lose ends. Good action, with twist and turns. Great plot.
This is the story of Kellan and Charlotte. Kellan is a member of the Red Stone Security Agency, and he is at a gala working when he sees a woman that he knows intimately. Charlotte has moved back from Virginia where her husband a FBI agent had died. Her husband died but before this they had been headed for divorce. Her husband was friends with Kellan aka Kell. What Kell did not know that the one night stand he had with Charlotte Bastien had produced him a son named Reece. This story was action filled drama. This was a good read, and I would recommend this along with other of Katie Reus books in the Red Stone Security Series.
Kellen can't help but fall in love with Charlotte, his FBI colleague's wife. He doesn't follow his feelings though. Although he knows that his friend cheated on his wife. Charlotte knows that her husband has been unfaithful but she just doesn't know what to do.
Kell and Charlotte get together after Andrew has died. Unbeknownst to Kell, Charlotte vot pregnant and he just knew he has a son after 3 month he came into the world.
A fun quick reading.
P.S : Love the name Kellen. It's unique.

3 I didn't like the h all that much. I don't like I didn't tell you I was pregnant for certain reasons and she ticked some of those boxes. She's lucky the H was as forgiving as he was and wanted your selfish arse anyways. OW drama from a girl he dated while they were apart (but didn't sleep with her).

I think this is my favorite one in this series, so far. I love Kell and Charlotte's story. His To Protect is suspenseful, sexy, and fun to read. Each book in this series gets better and better. I can't wait to read the next one in this series. I recommend this book.
Holy crapola !!!!!! Hi it's been a while, I have your son? WTF?????? Wow..............speechless! beautifully written and handled. Exceptional read. Oh, one more thing, these red stone security men really need to stay away from crazy women!!!!!! ( but I love it😉)
Who doesn't enjoy a secret baby storyline? I am liking these books. The stories are more novella but they flow really well. Charlotte and Kell carried this story along with baby Reece. Ready to see what book 5 in this series brings.
Kell and Charlotte, met before, and she has now return to live here. Unknown to him, he now wants her and their son in his home. Then witnessing a murder puts her in harm’s way. Putting her in a safe place, till killer is caught. Overall good, too much sex draws away from story.
I was hopeful this would be a story where he has to win his way back into her life. Sadly, not the case. I did enjoy the story, but I'm taking a bit of a break from the series - I don't want to burn out on them. They're great for short reads at good prices!
