I have a new boyfriend. His name is Pearce. Don't tell my other boyfriends they get jealous.

So…what I love about this book (besides that cover!)-
I love Alexia. Though a bit too immature for her age at times, she was a fun character. She's been through some tough times and let them get her down, but ultimately, with the help of a great friend and great guy (my boyfriend) is able to begin to pick herself back up and get her act together again.

I love Pearce. Yummy, sexy, rich, sweet, romantic…oh my God, why even go on? He's perfect. He is able to see something good in Alexia and goes after it despite the fact that they come from completely different worlds. He holds onto her when she tries to let go. I love him.

I love that although Alexia and Pearce are attracted to each other instantly, their relationship is slow going. Pearce is a little crazy for Alexia, but she needed some time to sort her life out before she can for forward with it, and he was willing to give that to her.

I think what I love most about this book, though, is how it shows how diverse A.M. Hargrove is. She has a young adult series with a spinoff adult series. Both of these are in the fantasy/sci-fi genre, and now she throws this one out, which is contemporary adult, completely different, and is just as good as her previous books. I think sometimes it is hard for an author to break the genre barriers successfully, but she has done it.

So...here's what I didn't like-
Alexia and Pearce together…he is supposed to be mine!

This story is sexy and sweet. I knew where it was heading long before the end, but knowing the outcome did not ruin the journey; instead, it made it more delightful to be reading on to see which path the author would take us on to get there. As they say, the journey is half the fun.

★★★★! A story about love and healing, with a tragic, but strong heroine and an amazing hero.

I had put this book aside a couple of times. I had thought/felt it was going to be a “heavier story, and I wasn’t in the mood. But after having read it I promise you “Edge of disaster has sorrow, but it also has much, much joy! For me it ended up being a “feel good story.

The description above is really all you need. Alexia Hammond [28 years/waitress-personal assistant/dark brown hair/brown eyes] is a very, very broken person with secret and so much sadness. I don’t want to reveal what they are but you will learn them early on. In her self-loathing and guilt she has, for the last 3 years, lived a destructive lifestyle of drugs and sex. Her life is a mess.

Alexia meets Dr. Pearce Middleton [35 years/surgeon/black hair/grey eyes] early on, but she keeps rebuffing him because she does not want to bring him into her drama. However, circumstances (sometimes with a little help from his grandmother and Alexia’s boss/landlady) bring them together time and time again.

Pearce is strikingly handsome; he is mature and kind; he is smart and levelheaded; he is successful and rich and one of Charleston’s most eligible bachelors. He sees something in Alexia and he’s hooked pretty much from the moment they first meet. Now, I might have wished that he didn’t fall so quickly and/or revealed all his cards so early on. But because Alexia is so broken it is probably the only way these two would ever have chance to a love story.

I have to be honest I was getting a bit nervous when I wasn’t even at the half way point and most of Alexia’s secrets had been revealed. Something tragic has happened But Dr. Pearce was there to “rescue her

Rest assure there will be much more happening to keep you reading!!! And of course while Pearce’s and Alexia’s relationship develops a lot of sex! Will Alexia be able to straighten out her life? Will she be able to overcome everything she has endured? Will she find peace? Will Pearce and Alexia get their HEA? Well, that you are going to have to read “Edge of disaster to see for yourself!

Edge of Disaster by A.M. Hargrove

Edge of Disaster is written by one of my favorite authors A.M Hargrove, A.M’s writing is fantastic, this story if full of romance, suspense and tragedy. The Edge of Disaster to me is a story about second chances, about making mistakes and learning to forgive yourself and move on from your past. I loved that A.M. Hargrove can write YA science fiction series then a moves over to the adult science fiction genre and now shows us she can also write in the adult contemporary fiction genre. To me this proves A.M. Hargrove is an author to keep your eye on. This book is well written and I couldn’t stop reading it till I reached the very end.

So we first meet Alexia waking up in a very awkward situation and running out the door, her best friend tells her she needs to straighten herself out soon; here we see that Alexia is struggling with things that happened in her past. At work one evening Alexia is serving a table full of people when she meets a handsome man named Pearce Middleton, Pearce is up and coming surgeon who has the most beautiful smoky grey eyes. Pearce is memorized by Alexia and asks her out to dinner. Of course Alexia knows she is in no shape emotionally to date a man like Pearce and turns him down.

Time passes and she literally runs into Pearce again, so she agrees to go have a drink with him, here Alexia informs Pearce that she cannot date him and he deserves so much better than her.and she walks away again.

Next thing you know Alexia is being rushed into the hospital and Pearce cannot believe what he sees and he knows he cannot let her walk away again. Can Alexia figure out who is after her and will Pearce be able to break Alexia walls down and can he prove to Alexia he is in this for the long haul.

This novel is one of A.M. Hargrove finest works and I am without a doubt one of her biggest fans.

I have rated Edge of Disaster a 4.5 star rating. I really would suggest that you go ahead and purchase of copy for yourself. I think that A.M. Hargrove is off to a great start writing adult romance fiction and I cannot wait to read her next book in any genre she writes.

So go buy Edge of Disaster and you will not be disappointed.

The opening chapter of the Edge of Disaster showed promise.

Alexia Hammond wakens with a hammering headache sandwiched between “Beavis and Butthead and the remnants of their partying - a razor blade, a short straw and a dusting of coke that was all that was left. After throwing up the remnants of her stomach she escapes and calls her friend Terri to pick her up.

We find out that Alexia is broken by the death of her boyfriend. Something she seems unable to move on from. Her life revolves around partying, alcohol, drugs and lots of sessions with lots of Beavis’s, Butthead’s Barney or Fred’s.

Fed up with the downward spiral of her life, Terri gives her an ultimatum, “clear up your life or you are on your own.

Alexia does not thinks she will love until she meets Pearce Middleton, rich boy, surgeon and smoking hot and……… this is where the story just fell down for me and became completely unrealistic.

Several times I wished A M Hargrove’s had developed a particular situation better and I thought that her writing lacked sharpness. The characters were emotionless and lacked sizzle and I struggled to the end of the story and there were a number of times I found myself shaking my head.

I would like to see more authors slow down rather than get caught up in the book's length. If a story is well thought out, readers won't mind length and will me more likely to give it a better review.

Edge of Disaster had the potential to deliver butfor me it didn’t.

Completely unrealistic and seriously rushed...

This book was a meh book for me. I mean, yeah definitely some scenes were really sweet and romantic - i loved some of the interactions between Pearce and her - but these scenes were not enough to force me to give this book a higher rating.

Instead exaggerated drama, even unnecessary drama was placed over and over again in the book. It was like a never ending roller coaster of climatic events I mean surely not all of them were important for the plot line.

The only part I sincerely liked was the relationship (although undoubtedly cringe worthy and corny in some areas) and the relationships with both their friends and family. Not only that, but I liked how the book showed morals, and how a person can change their ways/character if they set their mind to it. It is possible for people to change for the better.

I give it a 1.5-2/5

Dear me, wtf was that?
I could just about cope with the odd phrasing, the mixed tenses and the random and excessive use of italics, but what really did it for me was the complete lack of any chemistry between the H and the h.

He's a doc from a rich family who has taken a shine to her, she's a hot mess, but she's attracted to him even though she knows she's a hot mess and unable to date mainly due to his 'orbs'. Yup. Anyhoo, he pursues her, she defers until she doesn't and they go out, but after all of that build up, it's relayed in reported speech, along the lines of 'we had a great time'.

It's supposed to be a romance ffs, I live for that shit. I need a blow by blow, I need to feel the feels. But, nope, nothing doing.

So not for me. Ah well, moving on.

A copy of this book was given to me by the author, in exchange for an honest review.

{ My Actual Rating for this book: Torn between 3.5/5 or 4/5 }

There are not many reviews for Edge of Disaster at this point, because it's still very new as far as book releases are concerned. In fact it's actually a month old, as of yesterday 20 January 2013 - when I finished reading this book.

Anyway, the reviews are very inconsistent. Some are happy praises, a few are words of somewhat content over the book, others are slaughtering this book. I'm usually a slaughter kind of reviewer (if you read my reviews and if it's a book I didn't like) and although nothing's changed, I'm inclined to break this book down a little more thoroughly in order to help you, the future reader of this book, make your 'to-read' decision a little easier and slightly more well-informed.

Let me start at the beginning... Once upon a time, there was this book called Edge of Disaster by A.M. Hargrove...

This book starts with a very messed-up, very insecure female lead called, Alexia (or Lex). She's not living a very good and 'clean' life and because the reason for this is left a mystery at first, as a reader, you become curious as to why she's doing all this to herself. She's poor enough that she can only afford to buy her clothes from Goodwill or consignment shops. She's estranged from her parents and family, She has a dark past and and even more messed up current situation. But she smarts up, takes control of her situation and lifestyle and forges ahead.

Not far into the book, we are introduced to the leading male character, Pearce. A medical doctor, a smokey-eyed hunk with an incredible body, he has a divine house, he comes from old family money, is determined to get Alexia's attention, has a luxury boat, a family jet and it's obvious he has a major case of 'loads of money'.

All the above is a great part of this book. And I liked that Pearce just wouldn't give up on Alexia right from the start.

This book has been labeled 'insta-love' - but it's not. If you think about it... really think about it. (if you've read it), From the day that they meet, until the day that they end up together... a lot of time has passed. They may only have met here or there and chatted a couple of times, but they did not 'meet, sleep together and instantly fall in love' - A good amount of time had passed after the 'meet' and before the 'sleep' part. I think those who are saying otherwise, should reread that fact. It's not an insta-love book. It's exactly how a relationship that's worth your time is played out... Pearce just knew he could not give up on her and wouldn't stand down even when she blew him off many times. Nope... not inst-love at all, but rather a case of 'he knew she was what he wanted' and that's the real truth ladies.

Now, the only issues I did have with this book? Think about every single characteristic a guy should have to make him irresistible... good looks, a hot body, a boat, is a doctor, has a plane, is madly in love with you, never gets upset with you, would do anything for you, doesn't even think about your past (if it's a really bad one), adores you and can't keep his hands to himself, knew you were the woman for him the moment he met you... ect... ect... It's all in this book. I saw it all coming. By the time I got to the 'he has a boat' part, I just knew he'd have a plane too and I predicted he was going to want to marry her from early into the book. So the problem... it was predictable.

Now this is not a negative at all. You may have gagged and went - 'predictable and totally unrealistic'... but hey... you don't want all that from the man of your dreams? If you say no, you are lying through your teeth! We all do and let's face it... the only reason we got a little annoyed by all this is because, like I've said, it made the book predictable. But it's not at all unwelcome in the real world... so why is it unwelcome in a book??? Only because, as a reader, we didn't have a heart-stopping-because-their-relationship-is-hanging-on-a-thread moment... because we just knew Pearce wouldn't care or give up on Alexia. A great quality for your dream man to have, but give's the book a little of a boring couple relationship. Alexia could do no wrong in his eyes... and frankly, that's unrealistic. Men get mad at their woman at least once every two days. We are moody and unpredictable... and men do get annoyed by this no matter how much he loves you.

Another issue in this book was that the drama didn't pan out well enough. It was a high for a short period and never really played out dramatic enough. I believe that's where this book falls short.

If you took out the little problems Alexia faced, the entire book would end up being a happy romantic tale. If the little drama wasn't factored into the book, we probably wouldn't even have missed it, but because it was brought up and didn't evolve into a 'crash and burn' situation... that was a let down. I kept waiting for the 'sh*t to hit the fan' and it didn't... it simply played out randomly and yes... I was disappointed because I was reading to get to the drama, waiting patiently and it didn't make an appearance.

So in short... this book has a good story. It's a good read if you looking for an 'ahhh' moment at the end. If you looking for action and suspense, not the right book.

If you looking for something to keep you entertained, a good book. But don't go into it with high expectations. I think it's enough to give us a good read, but not enough to make us remember this book for days after we've read it.

I do think that the dramatic scene could have been played out or written better, enough to evoke more of a reaction out of me, but I did love the HEA and I did love the fact that Pearce was a true 'dream man' in all it's glory.

Alexia doesn't faze me. I can live with her, but I'm not crazy over her character. Her lack of self-confidence and her constant 'money talk' began to bug me after a while. when Pearce would moan at her for acting or saying something where money was concerned, I was totally moaning along with him. She just never accepted it and it began to annoy me.

But other than that, it's not a DNF, One Star or Two Star read. It has a great story with loads of potential... it could even go onto becoming a two part series. I finished the book, thinking, there is more to tell here... I just know it. So I am hoping for that (*hint hint) haha..

I really wouldn't mind more of Pearce, even with all his male perfection and predictable moments... he's still a great character, seriously hot and really a sweet guy.

I'm sad this book didn't go into my 2013 Fav books pile, it seemed to be leading into that at the beginning. I think it's just the method that was used to bring the book to a close... I may be a little rushed at parts, irrelevant at others, but it's still a good book in my eyes :)

I read this book in one sitting, just 3 hours! Once I started I didn't want to put it down. I have read several of Anne's books and I really think this is her best work. The characters were more real and relate-able, for me anyway. It could be because this is a contemporary setting and the characters are human!

Alexia is a young woman who has been through a traumatic experience and she is acting out by drinking, doing drugs and sleeping around. She is trying to forget, but all she is doing is hurting herself. During the week she is a waitress and on the weekends she works as an assistant for an elderly society lady who allows her to live in the carriage house in exchange for her services. Lisbeth is a very charming lady and I loved her character. Other than Lex's friend Terri, she is the only one who really looks out for her.

Just a couple of days after a particularly bad "date" Alexia is working and takes on a big party where she meets Pearce. She has sworn off men while she attempts to get her act together, but she takes one look at his smoky eyes and she can't stop thinking about him. She knows he's too good for her and she's decided that she doesn't want her past or present to sully him in any way, so she vows to stay away from him. I think she's crazy because Pearce is smoking HOT! Horrifying circumstances bring them together again and she is forced to face the fact that she does want to be more than friends.

As usual in a story like this it's a little crazy fast with the love at first sight stuff, but I really think that's what makes these stories so good. It's not all love and romance right from the start though, they have hurdles to jump and Pearce and Alexia seem to have more than most couples. Oh, did I mention that Pearce is a surgeon and he's super hot?!

Most of the story is told from Alexia's point of view, but there are a few spots that we get Pearce's point of view and I love that. I really prefer a 1st person POV when reading romance. I loved the supporting characters, especially Lisbeth and Terri. The pacing is well done and there was no drag in the story, at least not for me as you can see from how long it took me to read it!

This story is sexy, emotional and one where you can't help but feel for the characters and what they are going through. I had to wipe tears away several time throughout the course of the story. There is some profanity, but it's not vulgar and there are some pretty steamy love scenes. I highly recommend that you pick this one up if you want a quick, sexy read that actually has a nice story behind it....and Pearce is HOT!

A lovely romance with Middlegasms!

This is one of those, 'feel-good', fun, flirty romances that is a fast read. The characters are not perfect, but not so damaged that it feels like a session in therapy to read. Edge of Disaster is a wee bit 'fast' on the romance (aka insta-love... or almost,) but sometimes, that's just the type of book you need. Right?

I do want to clarify... I still would not consider this to be a 'fluff' romance. It does have some darker moments, some scary-type situations. It's not all romance and flowers and candles. There is some actual conflict and trauma that Alexia must overcome. Heck, the beginning of the book starts with examples of her downward spiral and walk of shame. I like how it's still seated in reality and not entirely glossed over to make 'real life' seem perfect.

The chemistry must be mentioned... combustible, smoldering, get-your-seat-wet steam. I will also never again look at a diamond tennis bracelet in quite the same way (who knew it could be a sex toy?) It was very titillating and worth the read just for the between the sheets action.

The only thing that stops me from going to 5 stars... honestly I wanted more. More steam, more romance, more conflict, more everything. It was entertaining and enjoyable as is, but I think more of everything would have turned that knob up to an '11'.

I still HIGHLY recommend running out to get your own copy, and see the man splendor that is Pearce.

Alexia’s hit rock bottom. Too much booze and drugs and bad moves.

Her best friend, Terri, has had enough of her crap.

“Shit Lex. What’d ya do now?

Terri loves Lex, but enough is enough.

“I won’t say a word other than this shit has got to stop. You’re going to end up dead one day.

Alexia takes a long, hard look at herself, facing some really ugly memories of crazy, dangerous situations she’s been in. She makes a promise to Terri and to herself. This stops now.

She lives in a carriage house, working part-time for the owner, Lisbeth, a blue-haired dynamo, and waitresses nights at an upscale restaurant.

One night, when Alexia arrives at work, she finds she’s working a large party from the Medical University.

She methodically works the group, taking orders, when a voice causes her to look up from her order pad into a set of smoky gray eyes. She keeps looking, completing her examination of his face and feels a stirring inside herself, an awakening, like from a deep sleep.

Quickly getting a grip, she works the group, trying to keep it together. It seems he was going out of his way to monopolize her attention. And it was working. Boy, was it ever.

The evening ends smoothly and smoky eyes, Pearce, makes a point of thanking her and giving her a hefty tip along with his card. Written on the back, “Please call me. I’d like to take you out to dinner some time. PM

Alexia turns the card over. Whoa. He’s a trauma surgeon. She keeps the card, but doesn’t plan on calling him. He doesn’t need to get involved with her. She’s a wreck and not ready to date anyone yet.

She nonchalantly asks Lisbeth if she knew the Middleton’s. Turns out Pearce is the grandson of her close friend, Avery.

Lisbeth cares a lot about Alexia, would like to see her get out there and live again, move on from the past. She’s going to have to give Avery a call.

Fate steps in and Alexia bumps into Pearce and after much cajoling by him, agrees to have drinks. His smoky eyes entrance her and his sultry voice and charm seduce her.

He had a perfectly beautiful smile on his face and I couldn’t help but smile back.

“W󲹳? he asked.

“What what? I tried to deflect his question.

“What’s that look about?

“Oh, I didn’t realize I had a look. Now only the corner of his mouth turned up. I wanted to sit on his lap and run my fingers through his hair and kiss that corner of his mouth.

“W󲹳?

“What? Me?

“Yeah you. You had a look on your face.

I was grinning ear to ear while reading this part and there’s plenty more.

She refuses to go on a date. Giving no explanation. Inside, she feels unworthy, dirty. Her shaded past rises up to haunt her. So they part ways, leaving Pearce frustrated and determined.

As Alexia is walking down the street, she’s viciously assaulted and when she comes to, she’s tied and gagged, with no idea where she is. She hurts all over. Voices from the other room grow closer. They enter the room and from their lewd comments she knows she’s about to be raped. One advantage she has is they have to untie her legs to do that and when they do she unleashes everything she’s got. Kicking and thrashing, she’s not going to just lie there and take it. Finally, one of them’s had enough and knocks her out.

When she comes to, she’s in an ambulance being rushed to the hospital. They just dumped her on the side of the road and some strangers found her and called for help. She has a skull fracture, broken wrist, fractured ribs, a ruptured spleen, and two stab wounds.

Pearce can’t believe his eyes when they rush her into the ER. He should never have let her walk away earlier. Now look at her. As he’s emotionally involved, he has another surgeon do the surgery but does what he promised Alexia. He holds her hand all through the procedure.

Pearce is a goner, just doesn’t know it yet.

“There was something about her that I couldn’t get out of my mind. The way she walked, talked, moved, everything. I just wish she’d give me a fucking chance and I’d show her the world.

Yep. He’s a goner!

So, the romance begins. Alexia moves on, finally able to push aside her feelings of unworthiness and forgive herself about Peter’s death. They were arguing because she didn’t want to get married. She stormed off and got in her car. Peter followed and they were shouting and screaming at each other when she lost control of the car and it crashed. She survived, but Peter didn’t. Her own family blamed her and shunned her when she needed them most.

This explains her slide to the bottom, but now Alexia has found love again, with sexy, smoky eyes, Pearce.

I had so much fun meeting Pearce’s family. His parents are as gooey eyed over each other as the day they met and his brother, Justin, another hunk, is sarcastic and funny. My kind of guy.

Wait until you meet Terri, Alexia’s best friend. She puts herself out there. No wallflower there. And fierce, like a tiger, when it comes to Alex. Pearce will have to pass her inspection.

Who wouldn’t want someone like Pearce. He’s so loving and supportive of Alexia and Lord help the one who hurts her.

Alexia may have done some stupid things, but who hasn’t. Her crappy family just used and dumped her and if it weren’t for Terri, she may well have died.

This isn’t a sweet little romance. Dark things happen. But then there’s the well placed humor to lighten the mood, and the smoldering, sensuous, beyond the bedroom door, scenes will leave you gasping.

While I became so distracted in this delicious romance, I kind of forgot some of the other stuff and got so damned mad in one part! The author doesn’t leave anything unanswered and I wish I could express myself better. I felt Alexia’s shame, hopelessness, and desperation along with her euphoria and glee.

A scene I loved.

“You’re spectacular. You’ve a mouth made for kissing and a body made for love. You’re the loveliest thing I’ve ever seen. You’re skin is like silk…so soft and smooth and your hair. Dark chocolate…to match your eyes. Warm and inviting. You’re ravishing. And you’ve charmed the pants off me. See?

Hotter than molten lava, with depth and loveable characters. Five Stars from me!

Alexia wakes up in the arms of different men and god only knows what kind of drugs she did the night before. So when her best friend gives her an ultimatum, she decides it’s time to quit the partying and the men and start the growing up. When she meets Pearce she is instantly attracted to him, but she has vowed to not date until she can get her messed up life back on track. Will she allow the Doctor with the smoky eyes to evade her heart? Or will her messed up past overcome her future?

When I first started reading EDGE OF DISASTER I was a little freaked out. I mean the girl is waking up at some stranger’s house. And apparently she had a good time with not one but 2 guys. Am I that sheltered…that naive that I found these actions totally appalling? But gosh did it made for a great start to a book. Because once you get past the opening, we see that Alexia is really trying to turn things around. Unfortunately something horrible happens and forces her to start all over again. You get what I am saying? Alexia feels as if God is making her pay for her the sins of her past.

Enter Pearce aka Dr. Smoky Eyes. He comes charging into her life and it will never be the same again. And who the flip would want it to? He is sexy, gorgeous, rich, caring, and did I mention sexy? Cause yeah, he totally is. Once Lexi tells him yes to going on a date…her life is swept up into a whirlwind full of romance and love.lots of love.

This is where I sometimes contradict myself again in my reviews. Yes I do love stories where romances grow slowly. But I also think that some romances can begin with a spark; a bang. Exhibit A: Me and the hubs. After only dating for a couple weeks he proposed. A couple months later we were married. Now 13 years and 3 kids later.we are happily married still. So yeah, even those great relationships can happen instantly. So I think it was sweet seeing this two react to the fact that they are head over heels in love after such a short time.

Now I know you are thinking…I just gave away the whole plot. Nope. I mean, just look at the cover. These 2 obviously get together. But there is an occurrence that happens near the beginning of the story that sets the stage for more to come. You just got to wait for it.

Ok, just going to explain now why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. Although I was crazy about Pearce and the romance…some of it came off a little corny or cheesy. Some of the dialogue to me wasn’t entirely believable, in my opinion at least. But that is about all I found fault with. I really liked it and thought that it told a good story. The book is also fairly quick to read…I would have been done sooner but things kept getting in the way of my reading time.

This was a nice romantic read. Not too steamy by my standards but romantic with a touch of lusty.

Lexi is going down a bad road. She has been turned out by her family, been in a horrible accident in which someone was killed and she blames herself and now...to top it all off...she wakes up after a night of drinking and drugs between 2guys she doesn't know. She calls them Beevis and Butthead. (Nice touch). As she vows to get her life back on track she meets a hunky doctor, Pearce. He pursues her but she resists because she knows she has to get herself together first. After a series of events (no spoilers here), she agrees to go out with him and WHAM BAM....they are In love. Pearce is really great if not a little on the sappy sweet side. His family is REALLY great. I love the grandmother scenes.

I kept waiting on the crisis cause you know there is going to be one. Yep. Cue the crisis. This was a well written story. Charleston is as much a character as any of the people. I love that in a book. Not as much angst and steam as I usually read but a good book. I know I go for more angst and steam than many are comfortable with.

If you’re looking for a love story, this book is one you could read. It’s cute and sexy and it’s easy to fall for the main characters.

Alexia and Pearce both have their own problems and both complete opposite. Alexia is grieving and guilty and having been abandoned by her family she’s at her all time low. Drink, Drugs and Sleeping with any man she can and waking up the next morning with no recollection of the night before but things about to change when her eyes land upon a pair of smoky eyes. Pearce is from old money, growing up he’s had everything he’s wanted, material things and women, he was never short of anything except feeling more than he does. He finds what he never knew he was searching for when his eyes land on the beautiful waitress serving their table.

Watching Alexia and Pearce relationship grow was fun to watch. Not only is their love there’s heartbreak and anger and so much more.

My only problem was I found myself skipping through some of the chapters because they just weren’t holding my attention as much as the other did unfortunately. Some chapters felt like fillers and didn’t need to be in there but anyway, it was good read.

This is a book about love and healing and finding that one person who makes you want to better a better you.

This book was enjoyable from the start it will have you.
I have read this in one sitting I just could not put it down, Alexia Hammonds life the last few years has sent her spiraling out of control, drinking, drugs, sleeping around. She hits rock bottom when she wakes up beside two men and cannot remember what happened the night before at all. Then she meets Pearce who gives her his number and asks her to call him.
I really liked the characters in this book Pearce is so swoon-worthy just liked him. Good story and kept me turning the pages.

Apparently I downloaded this book a long while back and never read it. This did not get better for the waiting. Everything was extreme. The most expensive wedding gown, the biggest ring, the sexiest man, the sluttiest woman because the worst thing happened. Ugh.

If you like cheesy adult contemporary romance novels where the main character falls in-love with a doctor, and they move incredibly too quickly, and they pretty much have insta-orgasms together, then Edge of Disaster is for you.

However, I didn’t know that Edge of Disaster would be like that. When I downloaded this book, I had high hopes for the novel. And then when I actually started reading this book, and got far enough into the story to form an opinion I formed opinions.

This book is not the Edge of Disaster, it is a disaster. Let me start off with the writing. The writing is alright as far as writing goes. However the style of writing is just horrible.. The writing is horrific. I powered through until I couldn’t take it anymore.

The main character, Alexia, is a wreck. Honestly. She slut shames herself to the extreme, and she has major pity parties in her head. She thinks that everything that has happened to her is her fault, and that she should just be left alone to rot in self pity.

The love interest, Pearce, is a doctor and filthy rich. Rich as in, the family name is well known around town and the family is made up of like, 4+ doctors. And he’s taken a liking to Alexia, and will not leave her alone until she agrees to have a date and or dinner with him.

Since the town that they live in is pretty small from what I gathered, these two run into each other a lot. like, a lot a lot. As in, if you run down the street and not pay attention to where you’re going you’ll more than likely run into one another.

I have to be completely honest with you. I am usually able to put aside my thoughts on a book until I’ve completed the reading. However, with Edge of Disaster I only got half-way through reading. If someone were to kidnap me and find a way to torture me, all they’d have to do is make me read Edge of Disaster. Honestly.

What really bothers me about this book is how over dramatic everything is. There were a few times in this novel where I thought the author had cleaned up their writing skills, but then the style of writing went back to it’s original style. And I absolutely abhor how quickly Pearce and Alexia move in their relationship. They meet one day while Alexia is working at one of her jobs, and then a few days go by. The two run in to each other, they have a drink, go separate ways, and then something life threatening happens to Alexia and then they’re pretty much together 24/7 after that.

Then!! They somehow get together to go on another date, that ends up with them confessing their love to one another, and then one of the two asks them to move in with them, and then LITERALLY THE NEXT DAY, one of the two states that they’re going to get married someday.

I hate this book. And I hate putting that out there, but I feel like I need to because it’s just…so…bad.. If I were to actually rate this book out of five stars, I wouldn’t rate it at all. However, I feel like I should rate it, so I’m giving this book a one of out five stars.

I haven’t hated a book this much for a while.

Thank you for reading my review on Edge of Disaster. Today’s review wasn’t as typical as they usually are.. If you’ve read Edge of Disaster, what did/do you think of it?

If you are looking for virgins - you won't find any here, that's for sure.

Alexia is a girl on the warpath to ensure that she gets as many miles out of her naughty bits as possible. Drunken, drug educed sexual encounters and past ghosts that have led her down a path of proving to herself just how unworthy she is. Until she sees him. Dr. Pearce Middleton. The good doctor is smitten right away - but Alexia is not going to give into her desire just yet. He is just too good for her.

But one night she gives into her urges and agrees to have drinks with him. But when that goes poorly she is attacked. Coming to in the hospital Pearce is there holding her hand. The events bring them a bit closer, but before she can move forward she knows she has to tell about her past - about the events that started her downward spiral and then all the details of how dirty that spiral was.

Pearce is not a saint, although you don't get much back story on him - he is drawn to Alexia like no other and will not give up on a chance to have her as his. The love is fast - the sex is not boiling over - but detailed enough. And boy does the Doctor have a great bedside manner.

You don't get their ages - you know he is 7 years older, but you don't know her exact age. From her life you know she is not early 20's...there is no college years there are just adults (I forgot what it was like to read about fully grown adults with life experience having sex and all that romance stuff). It was a relief.

You also get to meet Terri and Justin, her best friend and his brother who are the stars in the companion novel that is already out....boy do they have a long road ahead of them.

The suspense was mild - but added a twist to the basic romance story; It was not mixed in with the story line fully - so you sort of let go of it for a bit. But it comes back with a vengeance and it breaks up all the sugary love stuff nicely. Overall I was pleased, I had not intended to read this and might have overlooked it, but lucky for me the second book ended up as group book of the month so I had to dive in and start this one to ensure I would get to the second book. I am now excited to get started with the second book and have a larger interest in what other stories the author has to offer.

Oh my God! I can't possibly b elieved how good this book is? Totally I almost pass out to Pearce. Is he for fucking real? Men that man is totally a whole package deal. I was totally blown away for the love he felt for Alexia. Words are not enough how such a good man Pearce. I know he has flaws but not as bas as for Alexia. But damn totally head over heels to that guy. At first I thought he's not strong enough to deal all the shit of her, but then again at the end he proved to his friends and family how's devoted to their loved. Oh I loved him!!!!

For Alexia damn this girl is really fucked up, but there is something is really special about this girl, she's very smart and damn to sexy as hell. What I liked about her is she's a fighter and the loved she felt for Pearce is really a truly damn thing. She's very lucky girl indeed. What happen to her when someone abduct her, tried to rape her, stab her and left alone in the narrow street is pretty scary. Its one thing will come and hunt me for the rest of my life. But I'm glad she surpass it with chin up high, though her panic attacks really scared me out. But surely at the end I'm happy there still together.

Thanks for keeping me company A.H. Hargrove. You totally keep my Thursday afternoon so much delight!!!

Unfortunately this one was a DNF for me. While the storyline had potential I found the dialogue to be a bit cheesy--especially the internal dialogue of the h. Also I never really felt any sort of connection to the main characters.

I received a ARC of this book, my first from the author and I enjoyed it! It was a steamy read with some hard to read moments for sure, but in the end, it was a love story. Lexi has been through it and isn’t coping well. We see her going off the rails, much to the dismay of her best friend, and she is definitely struggling. While this story shows the tragedies she deals with, she also perseveres, on her own and with the help of love and of therapy. And boy does she come out on top! While there is a level of insta love, definitely more so on Pearce’s side because of Lexi’s self-doubt and trauma, he sure works for what he wants and he knows what that is—Lexi. He’s stunning, a surgeon, and from a well to do family, which puts Lexi further off balance, but even through danger and even more trauma, their love perseveres and it was definitely a passion filled one at that. I enjoyed this and would like to see what next in the series!

Edge of Disaster by AM Hargrove is the First book in the Edge Series. This is the story of Alexia Hammond and Pearce Middleton. Alexia is a hot dangerous mess and she feels like she isn't worthy of love or anything good really I felt. So when she meets Pearce she knows he isn't for her. But Pearce thinks otherwise. Enjoyed this book.

I am incredibly lucky to have been given this book by A.M Hargrove herself. She is a wonderfully talented Author who is so generous as to share her work with me. As an avid reader, lover of books, and review blogger, nothing could make me happier. Especially when receiving the spectacular books that Hargrove continues to amaze me and have me falling in love with.

Edge of Disaster was a step in a new direction for her. She has mainly stayed with the fantastical and paranormal, but she bravely jumped into the Contemporary with this new book of hers. Anne has always been incredible at the romance aspect of stories. She's an expert at creating these partnerships, situations, and characters that just come together so perfectly and have you falling in love with them as much as they are falling in love with each other. She hooks me with her loves stories every single time without fail. Not to mention, she persistently creates these men that have us ladies groveling, drooling, and fantasizing about even when the pages are closed. Yes, Hargrove has the yummy factor perfected. She knows just how to make us weak in the knees.

All of this absolutely came through in her new book with her new genre. I would almost say that Pearce is my new favorite male character of hers. With his amazing heart, his manly gentleness, his charisma, generosity, intelligence, and drop dead stunning good looks. I think Rayn from the Guardians of Vesturon series is still my favorite, but Pearce is definitely tagging along right behind him. Alexia is this completely broken and whittled down to nothing young lady. With a past that is a giant black cloud that never leaves her, and never ceases to darken her days. Her life is on a one way fast track to self destruction. That is all until Pearce with the eyes that kill walks into her life.

Pearce is determined to be a part of her life, to help her become the wonderfully happy, amazing woman he knows that she can be. With much perseverance and love he helps her rebuild her life, helps her open her heart back up, to love not only him, but herself again. It was heart melting and heart breaking, a romantic and emotional journey that captivated me from start to finish. Let us not forget, this is an adult book ;). Yet another dynamic that Hargrove seems to have mastered with ease. Her love scenes are electric, steaming hot, drool worthy, perfectly detailed and wonderfully romantic.

There's a reason Hargrove made it to my list of Top 10 Authors I posted recently. She is amazing at what she does. She writes these amazing stories with the most intriguing characters and plot lines that catch you hook, line, and sinker. You have got to pick up this book. Congratulations to Hargrove on mastering yet another genre and capturing my heart yet again.

Edge of Disaster was just a disaster for me. I struggled reading it as it was just not good. I skimmed the last half just to get figure out what would happen with one small thing that ended up being not much. Note spoilers ahead! Do not read if you don't want to know what happens in this story!!

When I started reading this story it was just okay, and I was hoping it would get better as it went along. Alexia is hurting, blaming herself for something that happened in the past and sleeping with lots of random guys, using lots of drugs and alcohol. The story opens when she wakes up after a night sleeping with 2 guys! Two guys! She slept with two, TWO guys!! At the same time! Two guys! At once! This gets brought up all the freaking time. How she is so dirty and horrible because she slept with two guys at once (though she is the one who thinks this, not everyone else). It was annoying as if all parties are consenting why not? What's the big deal? But obviously to Alexia it was a very big deal. She slut shames herself all the time. All the time. Everyone else doesn't seem to think she is a horrible person for what she is doing, or has done, but she thinks she is the worst. And yet she doesn't/can't stop. Until she gets kidnapped then all of a sudden she just stops cold turkey. Um...okay. So you were abusing drugs and alcohol for three years and you just stop suddenly and nothing happens? I didn't think that is how that worked. No withdrawals?

Alexia also meets Pearce one night at the restaurant she works out. He is so hot and she is drawn to him, but someone like him, a doctor from a well known family in the area, would every be with someone like her. Only he must have her for some reason. She keeps pushing him away for his own good, and he keeps trying to break down her walls. Then she is kidnapped and he is really upset because she was stabbed and beat up pretty bad, and then afterwards she is really afraid of being out after dark. She has to be back in her house by the time the sun goes down. Only Pearce asks her out to dinner when she is in a good mood and says yes and she goes out with him presumably after dark with no issues. She did bring it up toward the end of the night like I don't want to talk about my problems. This is the first time I have been out after dark since my attack don't ruin it. Oh okay, so Pearce is the magical guy that makes everything better? Apparently. It was just odd that it wasn't even mentioned that she was doing this and overcoming her fears until it was just a side comment at the end of the night.

Things move very quickly then. Alexia decides she has to tell Pearce her past and then suddenly they are in love, he wants to marry her or at the very least have her move in with him and yeah. No clue why or how this happened as I didn't see it. That is probably in part due to the fact that this story is all tell not show. It told me they were in love, it didn't show me that. It was not good.

The conversations were also painful to read (and most of the story is conversations). They were so cheesy/awful/didn't read as true. At the beginning Alexia also used a lot of odd slang or something. Like sometimes I didn't understand what she was saying as I didn't know what it was. Maybe it was common in the area the book is set, but it kept drawing me out of the story as it was so...odd to me.

The other issue? Alexis is dumb as a box of nails. I swear that girl. I kept thinking how old is she? Like she comes off very young even though she is twenty eight. I just didn't understand it. Like Pearce is a doctor, a surgeon, and she sees a photo of someone he helped who had been in a car accident and then is just all omg! This is what you do?!? You save people! I am so in awe of you! I had no idea! "I thought you just sewed people up or something." Okay...so like what kind of things did you think he sewed up? Paper cuts? I don't understand how you don't know what a surgeon does. There were many more times when it was just like come on. How are you this naive/dumb/whatever? I had a hard time with it.

There was just a lot of the story, the writing, that didn't make sense to me. So many scenes that left me scratching my head like why is this a big deal? Like when Alexia's bff first meets Pearce and Alexia asks if she approves. Her reply? Of course! He is so hot! And apparently that is insulting or something. Also, Alexia is supposedly all messed up, but because this is a tell not show I never felt she really was. And she seemed suddenly all better once she was in love with Pearce, but then her sleeping with two guys would come up again and again at random times. It was really not good. And just so you know, if anyone else is like me, I kept reading to see what would happen with the kidnappers/person who left her a note and not much. He leaves her another note then a DVD of *her* having sex with the two guys so then the cops track the two guys down and apparently they were really bad guys and gave themselves up or something the end. Lame. No even big showdown or anything.

So there was a lot of this story that I didn't like. Almost everything to be honest. The characters, the writing, the slight religious undertones (God forgives you, God wouldn't want that, Maybe this is God's way of punishing me - no God is not like that, etc. I think that is why the sleeping with two people is such a big deal. At one point Pearce's brother is going down the same road Alexia went down, blaming himself for an accident, and she finds him in bed with two girls!!! TWO! At the same time! It is just as big a deal with a guy and two girls as it was for a girl and two guys...which I still don't get. But if the religious undertones are taken into account maybe that is why? I mean Alexia was only supposed to sleep with one guy her whole life but that didn't work out so...maybe? at least it would kind of make sense then, but it wasn't really obvious so...I don't know). There was one thing that I did actually like. One scene that I said good job, way to put that in there. Thank you. And that scene was one with Pearce and Alexia. She is down on herself for sleeping with so many guys, she is filthy and not a good person, etc and Pearce says you know I slept with a lot of girls before I met you. Her response was something like duh! Of course you did. I mean look at you. You are crazy hot and a doctor! You probably got all the ladies. She was just like it was not a big deal for him to sleep with lots of girls, he is not dirty because of it and whatnot so Pearce replies pointing out that discrepancy. Like why are you dirty for sleeping with a lot of guys, but it is fine that I slept with a lot of girls? That I liked. Because it should be true. If one gender can do something and not be looked down upon for doing it the other shouldn't either. So props to the author for that. There were a few other times where Pearce would call Alexia out on something, like judging his parents before she met them, that was alright. The author pointed out good things at times, I just wish the rest of the story would have been good to back it up.

Overall this was not the book for me. It was all tell not show, I didn't like the main character, there were a lot of scenes that didn't make sense, and it was not good. Not the book for me. Oh, one last thing. Pearce wasn't that good either. He kept saying he would wait until Alexia is ready to get married, yet he brings it up every two seconds and makes her feel bad about it. He definitely pressured her and it was not cool. That is not waiting, that is not being a good boyfriend, that is being a jerk. Not cool. So yeah, I really didn't enjoy this story.

YOU CAN ALSO READ MY REVIEW

I JUST REALIZED THAT I HAVEN'T WRITTEN MY REVIEW!

Note: I tried to write my review earlier but the internet betrayed me and I kinda forgot what I actually wrote here..

The Edge of Disaster is pretty much what the title says it is.

Alexia, seems to me, is always on the verge of self-destructing.
Pearce, on the other hand, came out of nowhere and claim his space by saying: I have always belonged here, long before you. In other words, he did not make any sense.

Honestly, the romance was barely there. I don't know. At some point, they feel good, but most of the time, it felt forced. It was that bad.

The plot, was heavily underdeveloped. Alexia's character didn't grow so much. Pearce only had hints dropped about who can he be. Terri, Justin, Lisbeth, and everyone else I didn't name were basically just names. I didn't feel enough of the friendship.

The book was a lot like fireworks.

First was excitement, then it builds up but you won't really feel it then it explodes into something pretty and everything is just alive but then it fades.

The characters were pretty much cliche.
The plot could have been interesting, if told in a better manner. Not that the writing was bad, because it was not. It was good, but not good enough to make the characters feel alive all the time. It touched a few sensitive topics that I'd really not go into.

In the end, happily ever after, bla bla bla, la di da, but then it left questions. About all of them. I'll see if I'll give the next book a try because I liked Terrie, (because she has a head between her shoulders) and Justin fine.
