Being an author was always a dream of mine, one that seemed far reaching and unattainable, and then one day I decided to shoot for the stars and I'm glad I did. I have discovered things about myself during this process and absolutely love what I do. I get to share my stories and pieces of myself with people across the world and I couldn't be happier. When I'm not writing, you can find me playing accountant at my day job and being a part time massage therapist on nights and weekends. That is, of course, when I'm not toting one or all of my three kids off to one activity/sport or another. It's a crazy life, for an even crazier girl, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Except, maybe, to find a few extra hours of reading time. Because we all know: Smut time is the best time!

Decent friends to lovers with the typical 'miscommunication' thing going on. I always wonder how anyone would just walk away from their significant other without so much as a question? Especially when they were besties.
This was short and had a nice ending, though.

This was a decent read, for a free book. However, I had a tough time with the poor editing. Also, as a real football fan I wish it had been better researched. The Super Bowl never ever comes after Valentines Day.

This was such a cute read!! A Different Kind of Fairy Tale was the story of Alex and Stella, who have been neighbors and best friends for years. Basically, what happens is that the two fake a relationship when Stella is hired by her ex-boyfriend and the women he cheated on her with to take their wedding photos. And then that fake relationship becomes real, and so much more...

Overall I really do like the book, but something that confused me was that under genre it’s described as erotic when it’s really not. If I remember right, there’s only one, maybe two sex scenes. Anyway, if your looking to pass some time, pick this up!

3 Not-a-Fairy-Tale Stars

Stella, (love that name) has always been one of the guys. She doesn't do makeup, fancy clothing and is finally successful. The only problem, she sucks at relationships. Her last boyfriend cheated on her with her best friend.

And now, she lives next to the best looking guy she's ever known, Alex. She's also best friends with him.

Alex, has always been tempted by Stella. But to prevent losing a friend, he decides to not act on his feelings. Until one day, her asshole ex-boyfriend requests to have her photograph his wedding with the girl he cheated on her with. What.A.Dick.

Because Stella has self-esteem issues, she decides to tell her ex that she's dating Alex.

Why I couldn't rate this book higher:

-Stella starts out as a really strong character, she turns into a whiny mess. Completely falls apart when she finds a pair of ladies underwear while at Alex's house. I can't stand reading characters who don't know their self-worth and have to have every other character tell them how awesome they are.

- I personally don't like relationships which start before the book actually begins. I like read the entire development instead of flashbacks.

What I liked:

- Sexy times were hot.
- It was sweet, and I truly felt that these two characters were good for each other.
- It was free :)

Overall, nothing groundbreaking. But it was fun, angsty, and made me smile.

From neighbors to friends to lovers. I tend to like longer books more but I thought I'd give this one a try and I was quite surprised. A nice short read that took a few hours and a great start to the series. Wanted to slap Alex in the head at one point but glad with the HEA. I will definitely be catching up with the rest of the spring towers gang.

Ohhhhh, this was a gem!

I really liked the writing in this book, I was totally drawn in to the story from the first page. This is a contemporary love story, with all the elements I like ... angst, love, romance, suspense...

Alex and Stella were friends for 3 years before this story begins...I liked this premise because it makes it feel very realistic. Also I enjoyed Stella, she wasn't your typical model beautiful girly girl, quite the opposite!

The overall plot is predictable .. in that wonderful "butterflies in tummy" way! You just know it's going to be ok but watching it unfold is very emotional. I cried more than once during this book, that's how deeply it drew me in. I really felt the emotions being felt by these characters. Also the supporting characters were not lacking in depth, they were a great addition to the story.

This is very similar in style to the Neighbour from Hell series and if you liked those you WILL like this. It is very funny in parts, sexy in others, gushingly romantic at times and overall a fairy tale story..very well executed x

Great story about friends that both realize they want much more than just friendship. One of the funniest quotes in a book ever...

“Friends that can’t keep their eyes off each other maybe; the last time we all went to the bar you practically took a piss on her leg to mark your territory when any guy asked her to dance.

If I can give this negative star I would..

Horribly written, the flow was nonexistent, the dialog sucked... I had to break in the dialog to put my own words in to make it flow.

Story is typical.. Sex was NOT hot... Girl meets guy best friends become lovers..

I got to over half the book and couldn't take it anymore... It was a waste of my time to even go that far. I must've been really bored or felt charitable..

Don't waste ur time on this.

Let me get something clear: This is not a five-star book.

I need to get this out of the way, first.

What this book is to me
I have read this book numerous times, before goodreads and after.
A Different Kind of Fairy Tale is a....comfort book, I suppose. I read it over & over & over, loving it every. Single. Time. Therefore, I'm a bit biased in this review.

A bit about our girl, Stella.
This girl, is a total nut. She is a serious tomboy, has no idea what to do with eye shadow, eyeliner (or which is which). She never wears a stitch of make up, and a pair of jeans, a t-shirt and a ponytail is her everyday, thing. She's also got a wide and colorful vocabulary.

"If you drop another pass, I swear I'm going to jump through this TV and rip your balls off!"

...especially when it comes to football, or more specifically the Green Bay Predators.

Stella: "This is serious business. They are in the playoffs; but if they don't get their heads out of their asses, its going to be a short run. I'm simply motivating them; and if small innocent objects get broken in the meantime, so be it. And if Kyle is scared of little old me, his crew at the firehouse should be concerned about him watching their backs."

Stella is actually a bit insecure. Her mother growing up (forgive me, not mother "egg donor") was always comparing her to her sister, Victoria, and telling to lose a few pounds, cake on makeup and find tighter clothes. Then they wouldn't see how ugly she really was. In between asking Stella for money, of course.

Due to Stella's mom, Stella and Victoria learned the importance of hard work. Both girls own their own businesses, and Stella's is a photography studio, where she spends most of her time.

Along with that, Stella's boyfriend three years ago; Kevin, she found was cheating on her with her best friend, Heidi.

Heidi: "It's not what you think!"
Stella: "You weren't just riding boyfriend like a whore on a rollercoaster. I really should get to the eye doctor, then, because that's exactly what I saw. Now, unless you want to lose the use of your right hand, I suggest you let go of my arm."

Alex
He lives next door Stella, his 2A to Stella's 2B. He works for himself, building software websites. He is actually a millionaire, or as Victoria says; has more money than God, but you could never tell, looking at him. He wears jeans drives a (Toyota, I think?), and lives in an apartment and the only thing that shows his wealth is his "toys" (electronics).

He has also always loved Stella, almost as much as he loves her food.

Alex and Stella.
They are neighbors, they have each others house keys but almost never lock their doors so the other can just come in.

Kyle: "Friends that can't keep their eyes off each other maybe; the last time we went to the bar you practically took a piss on her leg to mark your territory when any guy asked her to dance."

Alex: "She could do better than those guys. I was just saving her from wasting her time on losers." Really, it was the least he could do as her friend.

Kyle: "What about a few months ago when you had a date with Tina or Gina or whatever the hell her name was; Stella jus happened to need your help on a simple plumbing problem, which we both know she could have done herself. Actually, every time you have a date she walks into your apartment with some question or problem. Anytime we all hang out together, it's like the two of you are an old married couple. You eat off each others plates, snuggle on the couch during movies, and spend all your free time together."

Stella and Alex are basically roommates...with two apartments. Eat at her house, hang out at both, go to their separate rooms to sleep at night. It's cute, except their both pining after the other, secretly, scared to lose their friendship.

What actually brought them together was food.

Alex: "So you like to cook? Are you any good or are these cookbooks your attempt not to poison people?"

The Romance
The Romance was really cute!
I'm not giving anything away.

The Plot
1. "The Romance" There's the transition from besties to lovers
2. "Tweedle dee & Tweedle dumb"
3. "Skull and Crossbones"
4. "Heidi is a whore in Whoreland"

Characters
Lindsey
She is a little firecracker, albeit short one.
Are you sure? I wore my ass kicking boots today and I will use them happily.

See more in .

Kyle
A fireman, and actually a pretty cool dude.
I'm not the one sitting here like a pussy talking about my feelings."

See more in .

Victoria
She is a tough cookie bear. She is fiercely protective
Just think 'beauty is pain' and you'll be fine."

Alex, he can never take anything seriously, "what, why? Come on, Stella, I was just kidding earlier. Predators' football is a big deal, and I hope they win it all this year. And seeing you naked was the highlight of my summer last year. Too bad you always remember to lock your door when you take a shower now." When Stella is drunk the girl is freakin' hilarious, "maybe I should stop wearing underwear under my clothes, too. It would be one less complication in my life." He stared dumbfounded at the woman lying on the floor, until Stella's words finally registered Alex's brain and he jumped back several feet. Alex had always worked out in athletic shorts and nothing else. It was in the privacy of his own home, and there wasn't a chance of anyone seeing his nether regions, so why constrict himself. Now he was beginning to question that decision." And he's honest, "why the hell would I do that? A ridiculously sexy woman has come to me, dressed in an outfit that should have a health warning, and you think I'm going to send you home?" Alex took her mouth in another heart stopping kiss." Stella knows how to make his man want, "Stella?" He had been in such a haze that he couldn't tell if it was real or the best damn dream of his life. She only hummed, which sent the most wonderful vibrations straight to his balls."

Stella & Alex are best friends from the minute they meet on move in day. Words you might her come out of a sailors mouth started flying in the hallway as Alex was trying to figure out a way how to cut loose his current girlfriend who was sitting in his livingroom. Running out to check on what was happening he saw the best pair of legs & great looking hair attached to a woman holding a huge heavy box that was now making her teeter totter on the top of the staircase. He runs out to help her of course what kind of neighbor would he be otherwise? When, behind that that box is most beautiful full figure beauty he has ever seen. Forgetting his girlfriend he carries it into her apartment for her. This is where all the fun & romance begins. Yet, this story is really so much more. This author know how to draw you in not just with the humor & erotica which is so prominent In most stories these days but gut wrenching truth & forgiveness in a friendship, family, & relationship of two people in love. I highly recommend this story.

What a terrible wishful thinking mess. I kept waiting for the cheese to stop and it just never did. Of course Stella is a fit curvy guys girl whose hot rich neighbor is her bff and they just happen to both realize they are in love on the same day and some ludicrous happenstances come between them while we build up for the sequel with Lindsay who is in witness protection. Ugh it's just so dumb. And her bff happens to catch her breaking down with her ex, thinks she cheats which even he just admitted was implausible and hides in a cabin because he is independently wealthy and has nothing better to do than be this fake perfect ideal. Then he does this ridiculous shit to win Stella back: breaks up her exes wedding - ha sure- then buys last minute Super Bowl tickets because he's apparently magic and she just takes him back. I threw up in my mouth a bit at the overload of someone's masturbation fantasy. There was just nothing to this and no build up to the romance we are thrown in to a moment when all the fun flirting has already happened and now it's just a race to HEA. Bored now.

Well rounded story

A romance budding between two best friends; Stella and Alex. Stella comes from a less than desirable childhood and upbringing, with Alex having had a picture perfect life. We follow through these two coming to their senses with their feelings for each other, and having to work through the tested waters of every new relationship.

While this wasn't my favourite romance story, it holds a number of good qualities. The writing is well done, with good description. Character development was great, giving enough detail to feel with and for them. I just had a hard time connecting to the story line and felt like I was pushing myself to finish. I am interested in seeing how life plays out for the supporting characters, though. A solid story, I will recommend to fellow contemporary romance readers.

While I like the idea of football fanatic protagonist, the plot was a little too obvious. Far too much dramatic irony was used, which took away from the readers' suspense and didn't allow for personal connections with the characters. The dialogue was okay, but the sentence structure was simplistic and there were far too many typos throughout the text, which were very distracting. I do appreciate that the other books in the series will trace the secondary characters' lives, but it's not enough to compel me to keep reading.

4.5 stars

I read this in one sitting; it had me totally engrossed from page one. It was a total steamfest, and I loved every page. There were some errors throughout the book, which was a little distracting...hence the 4.5 rating instead of a solid 5.

I look forward to reading more from this author.

Very good read. Good love story. Love the main character Stella, she cracks me up with attitude. She is so strong. Story didn't drag and liked the other characters in the book. Victoria is a spitfire, definitely like what I read about Kyle. Can't wait for more of his story.

Good enough for a free book on iBooks. I liked Stella's wit and feistiness. Alex was a bit too sensitive for my liking. The story was simple and came with a happy ending.

Book Review- A Different Kind of Fairy Tale by Morgan Rayne

Stella Howe lives by herself and owns her own photography business. Her best friend, Alex, lives next door. They met three years ago when she moved in. They remain best friends. Stella has noticed how gorgeous Alex is but she is afraid to ruin the friendship. She takes a leap of faith when her ex wants her to be his wedding photographer. With her sister’s help she shows Alex how she feels. He has felt the same way and things are even better between them.
Unfortunately, an enemy from the past refuses to let Stella end up better than she did. Sabotage is in the works as Stella and Alex become the targets.
I like how Stella was a complete tomboy. She loved watching football and refused to be a clique. Unfortunately, her self-esteem with men was low, thanks to her mother and ex. Her fear to open up is pretty obvious and I love how the object of her affections is Alex. He comes across as sigh-worthy and completely genuine. He is exactly what she needs.
I’m shocked at how devious the ex-friend is. I was waiting for Stella to take her out. I missed that satisfaction. That was one thing that didn’t happen, a true confrontation between the two. Stella’s sister, Victoria, was an awesome character. She was almost scary with her dynamo personality and protective nature. Loved her.
Then ending was fabulous and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Great read. I give it a 4 out of 5.

I really enjoyed this book. If there weren't a few missing words and incorrect words, such as breath instead of breath, I would have given it five stars. I enjoyed the dialogue, sex scenes, and how Stella and Alex put Kevin and the Ice Queen in their place.
