WUNDER-Book 1-The Approach A Semi-Zombie Erotic Paranormal Series from Debut Author, A.R. Von
Wunder isn’t your average girl, in fact, she isn’t even an average human. In a world ravaged by Zombies, she was born amidst the chaos. Where can a girl like her find the man of her delicious dreams? She has an idea and it leads her to the hottest new club in town, where she finds what’s been missing in her life. Pete has his own secrets to tell, and when they come together, another story unfolds while the sparks fly.
A.R. is an animal lover who was born and raised in Bronx, NY and is the oldest daughter of two girls. She holds an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science and Information Technology, which was only briefly used. She’s a mother of two entertaining boys (as well as a large menagerie of pets, all of which she considers her babies.) She’s also a wife to a delightfully handsome, amazingly supportive and outrageously funny man-beast who wants nothing more than to see her dreams thrive. A.R. loves tattoos as well as anything dragon and fantasy related. In her free time, she enjoys playing with her babies, exercising, writing, listening to music, hiking, cooking, dancing and reading. She also loves a great adventure in and out of a book! She writes to free her mind of its constant wandering and clutter. She thrives on the fact she can share it with readers that have the same passion for a great escape from everyday life.
She also loves to hear from her reader's and chat away, so feel free to reach out to her any time.
I will preface this review with the fact that I am not a fan of zombie books. I'm trying to broaden my horizons and delve into this genre that seems to be gaining popularity. That said, I went into this book skeptical and came out a fan. This story was as much about discovery and coming of age, as it was about the emotions associated with the cut of that first love.
We all experienced the butterflies in the tummy and anxiety that came with that first crush. A.R. Von does an exceptional job of conveying this, while capturing what it is to feel different than everyone else, and then to find that someone who accepts you, quirks and all.
I’m an emotional reader and tend to seek a deep connection to the characters I read. This book is reminiscent of that time in life when your heart is open to the possibilities and promise of the future. It took me back to that awkward time in young adulthood when you feel like every decision that you make is life or death.
And Pete, well he gets my Mr. Cutie Cute award.
On a more serious note, the thing I found particularly strong about A. R. Von’s writing was her ability to elicit emotion from a reader. This is a rare gift in a beginning writer. Wunder is such a strong heroine, despite the many obstacles she’s had to overcome. She commands respect, but is completely comfortable with submitting to Pete. I am a champion of strong literary heroines, so this was a major draw for me.
And the ending...I really wasn't expecting that! I laughed. I cried. I pouted when I reached the end, because I wanted more!
*clutching my Kindle and whimpering* Please, A.R. I want more. Please, can I have more Wunder?
Wunder is an excellent, 5 star treat for paranormal, romance and zombie lovers alike!
What I thought was going to be a short story about zombies, with all the implications that word gives, turns into a quick read of discovery for a young woman. A lovely story that starts off with what you believe is a tragedy and turns into a hope for tomorrow, and there is no doubt in my mind that will. Good job A.R. Von.
I will admit, I’m not a huge zombie lit fan: the ones that engage me and that I enjoy always have a character that is far different from the stereotypical brain-eater. A. R. Von has created a character in Wunder who is only a ‘small percentage of zombie, and is otherwise human in appearance, actions and thoughts.
This is a cleverly crafted introduction to Wunder and the world she lives in, and is an 18+ short as the erotic encounter with the man she has crushed on for a while is graphic and quite steamy. Imaginative use of food similes provides a giggle:that simple inclusion gives readers a clear description of the physical actions and reactions. As a short, this is a tease, but provides an engaging glimpse into a character that is cleverly snarky and fun to read about. I can only hope that the further planned installments will continue on this path.
I purchased an eBook copy for my own library, I should disclose that I know and work with the author as part of a review team. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
First off, let me just say that I LOVE zombies and this world that the author has created is incredible. I totally can't spoil it but you need to check it out! There are humans living and surviving among the mists of the horrible zombies. It's as if they are living normal lives with a side of zombies :P There are places to eat and random clubs... and it's in one of these clubs that she meets Pete...
When they met sparks fly and its hot enough to keep all the zombies away. I had no idea that a sex scene could be that hot! After the two become one they begin to tell each other the secrets about each other and the discovery that is made is mind blowing! I can't spoil it for you.... but this book is so good. It left me wanting more! As soon as I hit the last page I wanted more. Just like a zombie :P More Book! Fantastic little book! I highly recommend it and can't wait for the next one! I'll be first in line :D
Growing up Wunder’s father had always told her the story of her birth, but he failed to mention what happened after she was born. Having to prove that she was living, and not a zombie, was another way of life for her. But her life as she knew it was about to change, all because of one man. He opened doors that she didn’t even know were closed, and it starts her on a new adventure in her life.
This book was a quick glimpse into Wunder’s world, and it makes you want for more. AR gave you enough information in this story to keep you wanting more, and on your toes about the next part of the story. The twists that are in this book will definitely keep you on your toes and wonder what will happen next.
I can’t wait for the next installment of this series!
Overall I would give this book 4.5 stars and I would recommend this book to my friends.
I have to say, I love the story, I only wished it was a bit longer lol. I think it's awesome that Wunder finds another being just like her and she's not alone on this journey. What shocked me was the end and I won't say any spoilers so people can read it and find out what I mean. I cannot wait for thev second book to come out, the end was killing me, I wanted more lol and I can't wait. Great job Ava, I'm so looking forward to more of your stories in the future, I think this one is an awesome debut, keep it up girl. ;)
As part of a serial, Wunder was a somewhat quick read. I find myself intrigued by this concept and look forward to the next in the series. The author pulled me in with a very descriptive style and then hooked my with a great story line. Not wanting to give anything away other than tell you there are zombies in this book, I will tell you I found that story line very imaginative and very well put together. I admit, at first, I was hesitant to try this genre, but this is a well written book that tells a well thought out story.
Fast paced and witty I found myself really enjoying this. I know what you're thinking "Zombie Erotica? Um..what?" First off, stop that. It's not Romero's zombies banging. Wunder is a special child born in the time of a zombie infestation. Second, pick it up and read it. It's a quick, enjoyable read that packs a tight punch of conflict, sex and fun characters all together. I'm looking forward to reading more of Wunder's adventures.
I was really intrigued to read this and when I started, I found myself quickly immersed in a love story with a tragic background. I love the story of Wunder and hope that the author will give us more of her back story and her budding romance. I am also intrigued to find out what happens with the zombie situation in general. Good job! Want more!
This short story was the First I have ever read where Zombies were involved. What caught my attention was the Name of the book, and those Eye's. Beautiful Book Cover...To my Delight and Surprise I found myself hooked from the very first page, Where we learn a little about Wunder's parents and how they fought side by side even though Wunder's mother was pregnant with her at the time..Wunder is part Zombie because her mother was bitten during the fight...Raised by her father Wunder turns out to be a Smart & Sassy Lady, who also is fighting with a team to keep their city free of Zombies...Wunder knows what she wants and she gets what she wants, when she goes to a bar and meets up with Pete...She has had her eye on him for some time, and that night Wunder & Pete discover each other in many ways (Hence The Erotic Sex)...Pete makes a confession to Wunder as well, He is also part Zombie...Enough said because this is one Author to look out for...AR Von is Brilliant, and this book left me wanting more..I need to know what is going to happen now that she has found her Mother who she thought was long gone from their lives..Also between Pete& Wunder? This is one Series that I will follow to the End....5* for AR Vons first Novel.
A unique and sexy short, Wunder offers a twist on the “typical post-apocalyptic zombie story. The main characters, also romantic leads, have a zombie-related secret to share!
I’m a fan of pretty much anything zombie, and this story did not disappoint. It’s well-written and a great introduction to the characters. In a short span of time the author creates an undeniable heat and connection between Wunder and Pete, culminating in a steamy sex scene. Their relationship, the possibilities it holds, along with this story’s compelling plot and unique twist on the genre, has me eager to read more!
‘I was always afraid too. I’m different from everyone else and never wanted to be with anyone before now.
I realize he felt the same way I did. I was always afraid, and never felt any motivation to go after a guy before. I know I need to say something about this, but I couldn’t find any words, so I did the next best thing, and kissed him. He says everything I feel, that longing I’ve had too, for what feels like forever. I needed this.
I have only read a handful of paranormal books, and as well as being an introduction to the genre, this book is easily a keeper for those who are more in touch with their inner zombie. I'm a great one for picking up something strange on Kindle, and seeing where it goes. Sometimes you win; sometimes you don't. This one has the added benefit of a cool little teaser on youtube...
The story moves along at a nice pace; the descriptions really do throw the reader into a dark urban landscape, and the erotica is so passionately written, it's worth a second read for that alone.
When I realised I was halfway through, I'll admit, I was a bit disappointed, as I was just getting settled into the book, and wasn't ready to leave Wunder behind. However in the end this didn't cost any stars because (a) the story left me satisfied and conversely (b) wanting more.
I'm waiting impatiently for the next installment now!
thank you A. R. Von, I never thought Zombies could be interesting!
“Wunder is the beginning of a multi-short-story series about a woman named after the title itself. It’s an erotic “zombified treat. As it starts off, we get an understanding of the dangerous world Wunder resides in, a world full of ravenous zombies, and if you’re not on your guard, you may find yourself on their “plate, for the virus has spawned out of control, turning many into what we all know as “the living dead.
We get a glimpse about Wunder’s parents (standing together in battle against the zombies), we find out how she came into being, and we are treated with one hell of a hot sex scene between Wunder and her hunk of a boyfriend, Pete. However, the best mystery of the tale is the legacy of Wunder’s Mother. A ferocious fighter, yet she had disappeared shortly after Wunder was born. Alive or dead, or worse yet, made into a Zombie, Wunder does not know, but she is determined to find out, and Pete holds the answer.
I’m interested to see where aspiring author A.R. Von is going to take this.
I am not a zombie person, and I don't read much erotica. Apply that when I say: I didn't want the story to end. I got sucked in and wondered where everything was going. When it ended, I was like, "Damn. When's the next installment coming out?" I didn't expect that reaction.
This character was fully brought to life in under 30 seconds! Instantly I felt like I knew who she was. The writing was descriptive without being weighty. My biggest pet peeve is when a character walks pasts a tree and describes every vein on each freakin leaf! I saw what was going on, yet my mind could add enough of its own details to feel comfortable in a setting. That is my personal preference when reading.
Now I think I can like zombies! I may have to start paying attention to all that now.
Zombie's & Erotica....not something you would typically say "oooooh, I want to read that", but it isn't what you think. This book is short, yes, but it is introducing you to Wunder with some spiciness to it. There isn't to much I can say with out giving anything away. However I will say it caught me and drew me in to where I am actually looking forward to the upcoming books to this series. I am not a zombie fan...Yeah, yeah...I know, sorry Walking Dead fans, but not usually my thing. This story however may just be what I needed to "see the dead", lol. AR is planning three more books to this series and i will be eagerly waiting to get my hands on them. Only complaint....I would have liked a little more back story on Wunder before the heat starts to rise.
This is a very different type of review for me. It's a short, which makes it much harder to go into detail with. Doesn't make it uninteresting, just different. It's short, so my summary is short. The story centers around Wunder, a girl who is apparently partially zombie. It's explained that this is the result of her mother being bitten while pregnant with her. She's only part zombie, so doesn't have the flesh cravings and apparently isn't a mindless idiot. She does, however, have the hots for one boy and one boy only, Pete. It's an erotic short, so naturally the two get it on rather quickly, but Pete has some secrets and so does her father. The ending is different from any zombie fiction I've ever come across, which leaves some intrigue to see how the author continues the series.
I was given Wunder as a gift and I have to say thank you for opening up a new world for me. This is not your typical Zombie story and thank god for that. I was hooked from the beginning of this fast paced, sexy little short.
We’re given a glimpse into a post-apocalyptic world, the only world that Wunder has ever known. She was born with some zombie DNA after her mother was bitten whilst pregnant with her. Whilst it did not make her a zombie, it did make her different to normal humans. When she finds her ‘soul-mate Pete, who is just like her, the sparks fly in a very good way.
This story has an original plot, great characters and a cliff-hanger ending that leaves you wanting more. I can’t wait to read the next instalment in the series.
I received this book from the Lover's of Paranormal Group in exchange for an honest review
Stars: 5
Overall: This was definitely a very fun, exotic, romantic and adventurous book. The prolouge captured me right from the beginning because all i kept thinking that this as kind of like Walking Dead. ( One of my favorite shows BTW ) The only thing i wish was that the author would've slowed down and gave the characters more of a chance to know each other before they have sex. Well at least let Wunder play hard to get. lol Get ready for a major cliff hanger that's going to have to buying the next book right away.
Ok, so this is an awesome new take on the always popular zombie genre. Sometimes you need to step away from the walker horror and see what a zombie apocalypse would would be like 25 years after the initial infection. Add in some spicy sex, great writing flow, and you have a great start to a fresh unique serial series. Move over all you over done billionaire serials-- Wunder is about to kick you all outta there :-) finally!! Something new and fresh!
It was truly Wunderful!!!! (get it) A.R had gifted me the book to read and then later do an author spotlight on my blog. Well 16 pages later I was itching for more!!! It is amazing and the ending had you wondering when the next installment will come out!
Wow I love how it just gets up and goes. AR Von did an amazing job with this zombie book I love the fact that it's not like most zombie books, TV,or movies (not that I have read a lot of them) but between TV and movies this is like no other I can't wait to see what is going to happen with Wunder!
This was a quick read and I finished the same day. I couldn't put it down. I'm not really into zombies, but this was not to bad. I definitely can not wait for the next book!
I was eager to give this one a try when the book was introduced to me on a blog tour and so I was thrilled when I won my own copy. The idea of a girl that is part zombie living in a world occupied by humans and zombies sounded great.
The book is a short serial installment of about twenty pages. It opens with a prologue scene about Wunder's birth and then it jumps forward several years to the present when Wunder is fighting zombies with her father. She is attracted to Pete and for her birthday decides to do something about her attraction. In the process, she learns something that changes everything and that's when this portion of the story ends abruptly ready for the next serial installment.
I thought the premise good and the plot clipped along, but I do wish the backstory, worldbuilding, and characters would have been teased out more so I could have been even more vested in the story. My curious mind wanted to know more of the 'how's and 'why's not just the 'what's, 'where's and 'when's. The story jumped into a place in Wunder's time line in such a way that I felt like I was entering things in the middle instead of the beginning.
The story was engaging so I do want to know what happens next for Wunder, her dad, and Pete in their world where zombies are a part of their past and present culture. Even in the limited amount of pages offered there was a firecracker hot and explosive scene between Pete and Wunder that left me a little breathless and bothered. And for those squeamish types like myself who don't like their zombies too juicy and menacing, this is a safe read.
Those who enjoy short stories with a paranormal element and a spice romantic encounter should give this serial a try.
Wunder is a wonder to her father. Her mother was bitten shortly before her birth by one of the zombies running rampant in the land; therefore Wunder is one quarter zombie. Luckily for her, she suffers none of the harsh side effects that go with being a zombie.
Fast forward from Wunder’s birth to her blossoming as a woman in love with a guy named Pete.
And that’s mostly what this book is about. Wunder and Pete connecting, hence the paranormal romance aspect.
Wunder is only 16 pages. As the first in a series, I have to hope the other books are longer, because this is barely long enough to get your feet wet.
There are problems with this book, I won’t lie. It would have benefited from better editing, eliminating those pesky tense changes. There is just not much meat to the story, either, but how much can you expect to see in 16 pages?
That being said, I saw the twist coming from the beginning. And I have to say the story involves a pet peeve of mine two innocents, having sex for the first time, yet they seem to know exactly what to do, and there’s no pain, no blood, no mess of any kind.
So why do I give it three stars? Because deep down it’s cute and sweet, and has potential. I just think it should have been fleshed out before being released. There is no real story development, and little character. I’m looking forward to seeing more of what the author can do, if she’d allow herself time and room to do it in.
It’s a short, sweet read with an interesting twist on zombies, but it’s a little lacking too. But it’s also a nice first effort, Miss Von.
Wunder is described as a an erotic treat, and what a treat it is!
First, I'd like to say that I think AR Von is a brave woman. To make her debut work a short story takes guts and here's why I think so. In order to make a short story truly engaging, the writer has to tell a story with a limited number of words while working to convey the same sense of satisfaction in her readers that they could get from a novella or novel. I feel she does this more successfully than many other shorts I've read and this is an achievement in and of itself.
Wunder was pacy and quick, a little nibble that was just what I was looking for after a reading slump. Reading through Wunder's POV we get a voice that young, real, and a bit sarcastic in a way that makes her relatable. While I am not usually one for zombies, I can say that aspect of it didn't bother me in this story; mainly because of the way it's weaved in with the other elements present. It was just enough to make the world this book is set in realistic and believable.
I found Pete, the hero, especially endearing and cute. He had a way of saying things that could curl a girl's toes. The love scene between him and Wunder was hot without being over the top...just the way I like my erotic reads.
In the end, so many questions are left unanswered, but I know there's more to come for Wunder and I for one can't wait to find out how things turn out after that shocking twist at the end. Seriously, didn't see it coming.
Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This one is a hard one for me to rate. It was interesting, however there seems to be a whole lot of world building needed and due to, of course, the length of the short it's missing. Some things just bug the scientist in me like how the percentage of zombie in a person is determined. I thought that the opening prologue was an interesting setting and it really seemed like it was being told through Wunder's rose-tinted glasses. She obviously thinks her mom and dad hung the moon which is only right. I liked that way of opening the read.
I haven't much opinions on the characters so far and the situation really just got started so I'm reserving judgement as of yet. The sex scene raised a few questions for me and it seemed like the two were a little overconfident for their experience level but it was good.
I'd like to read more so that I can really get a read on what is happening.
This book was definitely different in a good way. Though the book is short, and is only part of a series, it can keep you entertained. Wunder is a short tale of a girl that is part zombie who is drawn into a delicious young man, peter, whom is also part zombie. The story spins out from there. It's a different twist on zombie tales and that is always refreshing. The characters are developed well and the story line isn't hard to follow at all. For a new author I'm giving four stars because I think she can grow and become the next big thing with a positive attitude and hard work. Keep it up. I'm happy that I got a chance to read this book. I would have loved more details, however I have a feeling the newer parts that are to come will get better with each book.
When I first read Wundr 0.5 I thought ok a zombie book can't be anymore different than the movies and I believe I have seen them all. Well I was wrong!!! The Approcach, brang to me a whole new light on the meaning of Zombie! It is different and Unique to say the least. With the introduction of her characters in book 0.5 which is free!!!!! Book one gives you a more understanding of who Wundr is. It is a fast pace, sweet yet, hot rivetting read. A page turner, beautifully written with depth to her description of everything, as well as her charecter's, it will swallow you in and leave you wanting more!
Loved the book can't wait to read book #2, Wunder and Pete are amazing character's, you will fall in love with instantaneously.
Zombie lit is not my fave at all!!! Yikes! Wunder is not scary at all, it is aptly named 'A Semi-Zombie Erotic Treat'. The prologue was a bit ick for me, but that's because I don't read or watch horror. A short erotic story that picked my curiosity, it is about Wunder, a young woman, born 1/4 zombie. Loved her quick wit and her go-get attitude. She wants Pete, loved Wunder's description of him: "He’s about 6 foot 3, and built like a well-oiled machine." She gets him, and more, hot, steamy encounter but she also discovers the answer to the question she's been asking for a long time. The ending leaves open to many possibilities and can't wait to see where Wunder ... and Pete go next.
