Dengeki Daisy is a fun shojo read, but it's starting to feel a little repetitive. As much as I like Riko, I can only take so much of her preaching, especially when she knows as little about what's going on as anyone else. Besides being a little too "talky" for my tastes, the last couple of chapters were just weird. They were funny, and, I suppose, go along with what we know of Soichiro, but seriously, it's hard for me to believe that he would spend what time he had left crafting such a complicated message instead of spending that time with the people he loved in person. It seems to be a case of misplaced priorities or the mangaka chose to go with humor over substance.

I really hope we can wrap up this arc soon. The story is overly dramatic and I feel like the characters are lost in the jumble of trying to fabricate some mystery with M's last testament and tying up loose ends with some of the different characters. I want to see the mangaka get back to what she does best - the humor and sweetness of Teru and Kurosaki's awkward romance. (And where is the kiss??? Geez...still waiting...)

They talk in a lot of circles in this volume. I'd rate it lower if it didn't go anywhere, but they do eventually make progress. Agree with others that a good chunk of this feels like filler likely to amp up the mystery to M's Last Testament. All it really does is get annoying because no one knows what that is, so the reader just reads the words "M's Last Testament" over and over and over and over and over and over... Seriously, don't play a drinking game based on the number of times they say it. There are some cute scenes with Tasuku and Teru, but the relationship feels stagnant, too. The plot and romance needs to get moving.

It felt like filler with how roundabout the clues were revealed but it was also fun and emotional. The sappy bonding scenes got to me. I¡¯m curious about Akira, but he¡¯s also made out to be too mad. I¡¯m happy it¡¯s close to the end. ~3.7/5

So apparently the brother has a secret room and traps and stuff built into the school when you get the code right. Okay. I felt like this volume really isn¡¯t all that important because what it reveals is more important in the 14th book. Getting M¡¯s testament etc etc.

This series started off so promising, and went out with a fizzle as it continued to grow a plot that just... was not what originally was. And was dull.

The last few volumes have been really story heavy. I hope we can get some more romance and friendship moments before the series is over.

(stejn¨¢ recenze u ka?d¨¦ho d¨ªlu)
Vlastn¨§ ten celkov? z¨¢v¨§r a Akirou a ostatn¨ªmi postavami.

¡°¡®Someone who never wavers isn¡¯t necessarily strong. To question what¡¯s right, to worry and search, to have the courage to do that, is the mark of true strength.¡¯¡±

This is a great, solid series. It¡¯s sweet, it has a lot of action, there¡¯s a lot of serious plotline focus, and there¡¯s also a good mix of the romantic plot, and it¡¯s funny. The art is hard-edged and sharp, but really nice. I¡¯m really enjoying this series, and I¡¯m excited to see how it ends, since it¡¯s only three volumes away.

There were a couple of sweet moments between Teru and Kurosaki. They¡¯re so cute and shy together, I love them. I would really like more of those moments, but that¡¯s alright.

There was some movement of the main plot; things are getting interesting there. I¡¯m not going to get into too much detail, though, and honestly it¡¯s a little messy in my mind, but I am interested. I also really like how everyone is involved, and how they tell each other everything, they don¡¯t hide things because it¡¯s ¡°better for everyone else¡±. And I like how Teru doesn¡¯t take a smaller part, or cower when something bad happens. She gets intense and will hurt someone if she has to, and she (nor any of the other students) isn¡¯t treated as less important just because she¡¯s younger. (Although I guess they are actually closer in age than they look, huh?)

Then the last chapter was really funny and sweet, with a lot of mention of Teru¡¯s brother. It was needed for the characters, and important to the plot. It was really nice.

I¡¯m excited for the next volume, and then the proceeding two. I really want to see how it all ends, and I really want more Teru and Kurosaki time. I just can¡¯t get enough of them.

Dengeki Daisy 13 continues the arc to discover the truth behind M's Testament and what it means for the mystery they need to solve to finally bring Kursaki peace.

17571467

The last couple of volumes started to really focus more on the adventure than the romance. We still have those cute moments between Kurosaki and Teru - as well as some cute tease moments between the two. But clearly they will need to solve the riddle for which Teru's brother and others died - or never find the safety and security to move on with their own growing feelings.

In this volume, Akira and Takeda make an appearance as either an asset or a menace - but Teru's not a victim any more and neither will be able to take advantage of her ever again. Meanwhile, the mystery behind Teru's phone will finally get solved, once again highlighting the quirkiness of her brother.

The series is in a bit of a melancholy mood right now with everyone in the scooby gang being both resigned yet serious. I miss the more lighthearted moments but also appreciate that this is likely the final arc of the series. Fortunately, there are more than enough "Go bald, Kurosaki!"s in here to keep me more than satisfied. And really, this has along been a favorite series of mine.

Received as an ARC from the publisher.

My Thoughts:

Things come to a head when Akira tracks down Teru in order to try to use her against Tasuku again. He gets a little more than he bargained for this time, though. Teru is scary when she's in "protect my friends" mode! I wasn't expecting Akira's completely pitiable response, though. He's crazy, but I actually feel bad for him. I don't think he's had a good life at all, but it's no excuse for douchebaggery. In the end, he does get what he wants, but in a completely different way than expected. That's when Tasuku reveals something about Akira's abilities he's suspected since that incident on the yacht. Akira is a genius, it's just a shame the boy is so damned twisted and pitiful.

We also get some almost kisses between Teru and Tasuku. I am so ready for at least a kiss. I completely understand why they're keeping things the way that they are, but it's still frustrating. I just hope that they at least have a proper kiss before the last volume in the series. I need that, at least.

In the end, the guys finally find a message from Souichirou. It looks like Teru's cellphone had something important in it, after all. That chapter when he was making them pass tests in order to get what they needed to find M's Last Testament was silly, but also very sweet. I'm looking forward to seeing what will happen next. I'm all caught up on the Viz releases now, so it looks like I'll be impatiently waiting for v.14.

Motomi obviously goes to a lot of effort to keep the use of the different characters and the different types of plot balanced and well developed. This time I broke down the chapters in my comments as I read and it really showcased to me her efforts. (Note: Minor Spoilers in my comments!)

The art just felt superior in this volume. The pinnacle to me was the chapter 61 title page - Kurosaki putting in Teru's eyes drops... wow! In chapter 62 it was Riko whose frames rocked it! There again, is balance in the different types of art Motomi uses and it is superior work.

These improvements in balance of both the story and art are most likely why this series keeps going. I didn't know how they would keep this premise going but it is and better all the time. Akira is an interesting development and I like how we are finally seeing more about his motivations. Loved Riko's part in this plot and how again she took the past and put a different spin on it. Loved the Teru and Kurosaki moments - drunk, open Kurosaki and almost kisses...

The last chapter was shameless fun at Soichiro's expense. I loved this despite its ridiculous nature. You can imagine their lives if Soichiro had lived and how when someone passes they continue to effect you always...

BOTTOM LINE: Better and better...
