Marked by the Vampire

Rate this book
Suddenly, I knew what happened to the villain when he fell in love. He became the man who burned the world down to keep her safe.

Abigail Eastman had spent a year trying fly under Anderson Jeon’s radar. He was gorgeous, powerful, and dangerous, all things that were catnip to her. She never expected that he’d be interested in her, or that their connection would be instant and electric. She also never expected him to help her catch the people who framed her father for embezzlement.

Anderson Jeon was the scion of one of the most powerful vampire families in the world. His core values were those of power and control. He wielded both ruthlessly, until Abigail Eastman entered his world. He knew he wanted to make her his, but it had never occurred to him that after centuries of avoiding emotional entanglements, he was about to fall in love, putting his own heart at risk.

A heroine who owns her sexuality and knows what she wants? A hero who respects the heroine's boundaries instead of being an alpha-hole? Representation in age, body-type, and ethnicity?
Yes, yes, and yes!
Abigail has noticed the handsome vampire for a while now, and unbeknownst to her, it's mutual. She moved downtown after her father was jailed for unethical financial doings and she was put through an investigation in order to clear her name. She knows who is behind it and she is taking her time collecting evidence to clear her father.
Anderson knows that the more she looks into the situation the more danger she will be in, and suggests they work together.
These two are not coy about their attraction to each other, and Abigail has no problem telling Anderson to back off when he makes the wrong assumption and gets overbearing. She is unapologetically candid when it comes to sex, and he, having spent centuries avoiding emotional entanglements, is completely taken by her beauty and her brains.

Maybe it's a wisdom that comes with age, but Abigail, who is 41, can think clearly while aware that she is angry, can be in lust with Anderson and yet tell him that next time he oversteps, it will be a problem, and can accept help when she realizes it will get her to her goals faster and more safely. In a genre where many times grown women act like children, tossing their hair at everything, and not accepting anyone's help just to be stubborn, this was a refreshing change, as was having two truly morally grey leads.
There is violence, and the sex is very, very explicit and varied - also, I was not a fan of the constant use of a nickname, but overall Marked by the Vampire was a fun read and I am glad to hear that there are more books planned in this series.

Not my normal genre, but if you like supernatural romance with a lot of power fantasy, very quick declarations of true love, and extra spicy bedroom scenes, this is for you.

It gave me really strong Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines vibes. Vampires in this book don't have to maintain the masquerade, but the world seems to be run by powerful vampires behind the scenes.

Read this one because I know the author. Definitely has some NC-17 content.
