It's hard enough for us mere mortals. In the rarefied, high-wattage atmosphere of the music world, rock stars Jenna Bradford and Scott Tenny struggle to find love. Two beautiful people living their lives in a fish bowl, where every rumor of happiness or grief becomes grist for the gossip mill, where every public moment is chronicled in close-up by paparazzi armed with cameras. Two human beings grappling with realities present and past as they seek to establish common ground and trust where their love for one another can blossom and grow. Two individuals experiencing the truest love either has ever known. Two giants of the music industry, both industries in their own rights, trying to make a life for themselves that is Beyond Beautiful.
First of all, when I look at the cover and then read the book, my idea of what they look like is totally different. The cover has two people that look like they're singing folk music, while in my mind I got Sheryl Crow and Steven Tyler. The only thing Steven Tyler on the cover is the scarf tied to the mic. So I kept reading and put the cover right out of my mind. I'm glad I did. As far as romances go, this one had everything I look for. Strong characters, a much anticipated lead into the love affair, and good writing. This was originally printed in 2006, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's out of date. It's not! I had a lot of fun reading it and look forward to book two; Sweet Emotions. (Another Steven Tyler connection????)
This romance series follows Jenna and Scott, both stars in their own right through a turbulent love affair with all of the trappings of life on the road. You get to be back stage and view life on the road from these two who make music for a living. I have to say that the series seems to accurately depict this lifestyle of two more mature rock stars. Scott is over his hell-raising days and ready to settle down, while Jenna is not sure about what she wants until she ends up pregnant by a NFL player. Discovering her maternal instincts and then losing the baby while reunited with Scott causes both of them to reevaluate their lifestyles.
Of course, there are the usual set back with unstable groupies, band politics and the nonstop lifestyle, the two make an awesome pair. The writing makes you want to read every word and there are enough little twists and turns to keep it interesting. My favorite characters are actually two minor ones: Linda, Jenna's mom and Joe, Scott's Dad. Joe has some of the best wise cracking in the whole book. They both provide stability to the crazy lifestyle that their children live. My only complaint about their books is that the covers seem dated.
The Song Trilogy Beyond Beautiful, Book I by Jan Bornstein
Contemporary romance books are perfect for a summer read. This book captured my imagination, taking me into another world and into the hearts and minds of the characters.
The Song Trilogy spans five years in the lives of the charismatic Jenna and Scott as they struggle for their love in a world where every wink, smile, and personal tragedy is chronicled by paparazzi. In "Beyond Beautiful," "Sweet Emotions," and "Deuces Are Wild," the lovers overcome numerous obstacles, including abuse, betrayal, blackmail, and a heart wrenching separation, to attain ecstasy and love.
Jenna and Scott are rock stars who live their life so publicly can they find love and be happy? This story has everything in it to keep the reader wanting to read more and more and not put the book down. It follows the couple back stage you see the ups and downs they have to go through. There is sex, romance, music, suspense and more. The story really holds you through out the whole book. You won't put it down till the end and then you will be wanting more.
There was so much going on in Jenna and Scott's lives but for some reason I was unable to connect with either of them. As rock stars both Jenna and Scott are damaged goods however their problems seemed really forced and not quite believable to me. I found myself putting this book down for long periods of time because I would lose interest and pick something else up. I have to admit I won't be picking up the next book in this trilogy.
