I write spicy romance books that end in an HEA. Contemporary romance, historical romance, paranormal romance…I write it all. The two things my books all have in common is lots of emotion and spice. Last year, I fell in love with a new subgenre: mafia romance. Since I write what I love to read, I started a new standalone series, Syndicate Rules where you’ll meet over the top alpha heroes in the Italian and Greek mafias as well as the Irish mob. There are arranged marriages, forced marriages, enemies to lovers, stalkers, forced proximity and lots of mafia intrigue. Morally gray is my new favorite color.

Follow me on BookBub for alerts on my next release:

I’ve been published a while and most of my 90+ books have hit the Nielson Bookscan bestseller list, a few ended up on the USA Today bestseller list and some even hit national bestseller lists in the UK and Australia. My books have been translated into numerous languages and are for sale in dozens of countries around the world. I’ve won awards and been published with most of the big houses in New York, but my greatest achievement is touching readers hearts. When I hear from a reader who got caught up in one of my books, I know I’m doing what I’m meant to do.

I love writing emotionally deep stories with snappy dialogue and solid plots. I’m more grateful than I’ll ever be able to express that so many readers have taken my stories into their hearts and put my books on their reread and keeper shelves.

This book is sinfully good! Ever so slow mind-blowing sex (and you don’t have to wait long to get it either!), a hero built like a Greek god, oozing that lethal Georgia charm, who will just leave you gasping for air whenever he talks! It’s a fast paced page turner with a love story that will have you sighing many an “ohhh man and then you’ll feel like jelly once you’ve managed to catch your breath (lol!)

Brett, aka Hotwire,is so cocksure of himself but you just can’t hate him because he turns on the chivalry with his “sugar this and “darlin’ that and you’re totally lost in Swoonville 8-) Monroe does a fabulous job with his character so you can nearly see what he looks like –and that’s a mighty fine thing (!). Claire, his lady love, is unsure of herself in a lot of ways but he just makes her shine –over and over and over again (**sigh sigh**) 8-) They start off as pseudo-friends, move on to “friends with benefits and end up as … no spoilers here! But the ending will put the best smile on your face and a tear in your eye what with a few twists and turns for good measure.

The steam ranks up there with some of THE best in romance. You will look at hot tubs in a whole new light ;-) Monroe is a fantastic writer because at the end of each chapter she leaves you with this mini-cliff hanger and you HAVE to know what happens so you keep on reading and suddenly it’s 2am and you have to be up at 7am but you still want to read!!! Some of the characters from the previous books pop up too which was nice to see.

Book 1 was really good, book 2 needed some major ice on hand to cool down after that read (!) but book 3 –well, suffice it to say that you may want to save this little gem for your next visit to snow country :D

Claire Sharp is good at minding her own business and keeping her head down. She's been busy trying to fit four years of school into three but then suddenly she's viciously and inexplicably attacked in her own home and she can't think of who would be out to get her. There was trouble with her former roommate but now her ex roommate is off on her honeymoon, enjoying her post wedding bliss, and there is no one to protect her. She's alone and scared, waking up after her attack in the hospital, but then her southern bad boy blows into her room and whisks her away to safety....and his hotel room. Brett "Hotwire" Adams is determined to protect Claire. A long time ago he failed to protect his fiancee and since then he made a promise to never love another. Claire is the first woman to make him question that promise made so long ago, but before he can settle his past, another man is determined that his own past never come back to haunt him, and he's willing to silence everyone to do it.

Southern charm is hit and miss with me. Sometimes it's a panty dropper, other times it just makes me want to smash my fist into something. Preferably that smarmy southern gentleman's face. I'm happy to say that this is a case of the former. I loved this book. It was the most exciting out of the three books, (which isn't saying much) and the most interesting. Brett was so charming and so adorably bad boy. I envisioned his smile and his southern accent and the panties just flew off. That scene in the hottub definitely helped, too. (Water jets! Yes!) Claire was also a very nice heroine. Not too angsty despite her rotten childhood and I admired her spirit and determination to succeed.

This was definitely the most funny out of the three books. Brett's southern charm goes the distance in this story and I thought the plot was the most intriguing. What happens when a hitman retires and becomes senile? Nothing good. Especially when that retired hitman has recorded all his transactions down in his own private kill book and everyone is hunting it. Luckily for Claire, she knows a couple of big, tough mercenaries who are able to save the day.

This was my favorite of the three because of the charm and the witty dialogue. I really liked the cameos with Wolf and Nitro. The ending is especially funny when while Brett is commiserating over the reason as to why he can't love Claire, the guys are looking on in amazement. I started laughing hysterically when Nitro asked Brett, "are you really that stupid?" Haha. Priceless. Just what every tortured romance hero needs. Someone who will ask him, are you really that stupid?. It will get through so much angst and avoidable conflict that much faster.

This was a very nice ending to this easy to read and fun little trilogy and it's arguably my favorite.

2 ½ stars Contemporary Romance/Romantic Suspense

There really wasn’t anything about this story that worked for me. I didn’t like the hero and heroine or find their attraction and romantic development (or should I say warp speed progression once they finally had sex) at all believable. The supposed suspense plot was silly and boring and wasn’t the least bit exciting. There’s something about Monroe’s writing that comes across as contrived and corny to me, and I just don’t think she depicts the dialogue and actions of alpha ex-mercenaries realistically at all.

The male lead in this, Brett “Hotwire Adams, is a notorious flirt and ladies man who makes it clear that he’s a no-commitment type of guy. Then all of a sudden he has sex without a condom and is 100% convinced that the heroine, Claire, should marry him because they belong together, even though he doesn’t love her or consider it a possibility that he ever will. Huh? Even more ridiculous and out of character for him is the fact that he makes such a big deal, over and over again, about how turned on it makes him to think of her pregnant with his child, yet he still doesn’t think he loves her. He’s also pretty darn dumb and clueless considering that he can’t seem to understand the reason Claire won’t marry him after such a grand romantic gesture of “hey, you might be pregnant with my baby, so you have to marry me, even though I don’t love you and can’t ever love you. Then of course he talks things over with his ex-merc buddies Wolf and Nitro and suddenly has a shocking epiphany of “oh wait, but I do love Claire!. *rolls eyes*

I wasn’t overly enthusiastic about the previous two books in the Mercenary Trilogy either, but at least they were smokin hot. The hitting the sheets action in this took way too long to come about (nothing really happened until around the 190 page mark), and even then it wasn’t all that steamy, which combined with a mundane suspense plot made for a pretty dull, just okay, read.

Of the three Mercenary books by Monroe, this one is my least favorite. Which doesn't meant I didn't like it, because I did...I just liked the other 2 more. There was something almost...I don't know...sappy?...about it. I guess I'm saying it didn't have the same edge as the other two. But I did still like it!

This last story features Brett and Claire, who we got a preview of in book 2 where they started setting off sparks whenever they were near each other. Claire's a loner computer geek, but suddenly she finds herself under attack from an unknown threat. Brett - with his consuming Claire-obsession - comes riding in on his white steed and vows to protect Claire. And also get her into bed. But he won't give her more than an affair. He's a no commitment kinda guy. As he spends more and more time with her, though, he begins to think about marriage...especially after a no-condom accident. Claire wants more, though, than a obligation marriage. She wants Brett to love her.

Brett was my least favorite of the 3 heroes of this series. He just didn't interest me as much as the other two, but I did still like him. Though a couple times I wished he'd stop with the "my mama says..." rhetoric. It got old. And there's something about a big, bad ex-merc constantly bringing up his mama that is a bit of a turn-off.

I did like Claire, though. She was pretty cool. And I have to admit, some of the sex scenes in this book...yeesh! Cold shower, anyone? They weren't even that explicit (I've read worse)...but the slow pace, the focused attention by Brett...well, it made me wish I was Claire!

The suspense plot aspect came across kinda minor to me. In the other 2 books, the plot got a little more attention, but in this one, the relationship between Brett and Claire took over a bit. I wouldn't have minded if the plot had been a little more of a priority.

On the whole, I'm glad I got to read this series. Some nice romance, steamy sex, decent plots. All well worth reading. I will say, though, that if I had one major complaint about the series it's that the books could have used a little more variance between them. The basis of each storyline (girl in trouble, hero to the rescue) was vary similar. And the heroes and relationships had some very direct similarities (hero determined not to marry for some specific reason, heroine falling in love with him anyway, hero realizing he loved her too at the end). I think Monroe could have mixed it up a little more. But I don't think the similarities ruined the series. I read all three in a row and it didn't bother me over much.

Anyway, good series. If you like spicy romantic suspense that is more romance than suspense, then you might want to give this series a try.

This wasn’t my favorite of the Mercenary series, but I did like it quite a bit. Brett, aka Hotwire, can’t stop thinking about Claire since he met her a few months before at mutual friends home. They meet up again at a wedding and all he can think of is how attracted he is to her. He makes it clear that he is into the ‘no strings attached kind of relationship with women. She hears the message loud and clear. She ends up getting into a dangerous situation, and Bret jumps in to protect her. I think the two characters are well written, however the back story of the mystery was a little week. As I anticipated, it was verrrrry steamy! Overall, I highly recommend it and the entire series. I am now an official Lucy Monroe fan!

Good if you liked the first two books. I would not recommend this as a stand alone book.

But if you liked the first two books in the trilogy, (Ready, Willing, And Able), then I would recommend it. The first book had great plot and characters. The second had great feelings. In this book, the plot and characters were not that interesting to me, the sex was not that good. I'm glad I read it, but I can't explain why, other than the fact that I loved the first two.

Sexual content: not evaluated. I read this book before I began counting sex scenes and describing the language. As I recall, it was probably strong. Setting: current day U.S. Copyright: 2006. Genre: romantic suspense.

I really wanted to love this book, and although I didn't dislike it, for me it fell short.

Claire was a good heroine. She was smart, witty and a little nerdy, which I really appreciated, but I also felt that she didn’t respect herself enough and stick to her guns.

Brett (Hotwire) was a sweet alpha male type hero, he was fun and stubborn, but I felt he over-rid a lot of Claire’s feelings and pushed her thoughts to the side a lot. I love a possessive male lead but I don’t think this one was as successful as it could have been.

I also liked the story line and plot twists but the scenes were very jumpy and haphazard at times.

Over all 3 out of 5 starts.

Definitely the book I’ve been waiting on for this series! The insecure, barely no friends, and terrible upbringing and support girl gets entangled with a man! So little mushy(aka: secret to my sole) talk till the end of the book! Also the author lacked a bit towards end with the sexual connection for me to continue connected as I was until after the hotel hot tub! I think the author pulled away after that on the sensual details(not sure why) but it had a great ending nevertheless! I was happy about this book

Claire - determined, focused, computer genius, a childhood that taught her not to rely on anyone while making her determined to succeed, few friends, Josette (exroommate, until she married Wolf) and a few at the elder care home where she worked, she doesn't worry too much about looks, wears baggy clothes to cover her somewhat large breasts, and she has unruly, red, curly, hair... and... Brett (aka Hotwire)... one of the 3 ex-mercenary soldiers, the one who know the computers the best... of a well off southern family who loved him enough to let him go when he did not follow the family 's way, fell in love 6 years earlier with a daughter of an island of unrest, who died before he got back to her - she put her country ahead of her love for him, and paid the price... and he vowed to never love again, to honor her memory... and since he met Claire when Josette was in trouble, he has been dreaming and painting her, not wanting sex with anyone else...

In this story, they are brought together at Josette's wedding... where he makes it clear to one and all that he isn't ever going to get married/commit to a woman... and yet he finds her attractive. He take her home, makes sure its secure with the new system... and we see their friendship - she overlooks his charm, and treats him like a brother, and he respects her. When her alarm goes off a few days later, because she forgot to put in the alarm code, he realizes that if something were to happen, he was too far away, so he moves into a nearbyhotel. She is finishing her BA (in 3 years), and has a week until finals, and she works at a elder care home, where one resident, whom she considers her friend, asks her to visit withhim... he is having more frequent boughts of forgetfulness and he tells her of his time as a government assassin, and aludes to his kill book. A few polititcians come to visit, and (though we don't know this until later), he speaks with one, confusing him with his father, a potential client who he wanted bought off... and then he dies of a heartattack (even though his heart was healthy), and then someone comes into Claire's home, setting off the alarm, and smothers her - she fights him off with the mace that Brett left for her (all over the house) and a tussle that resulted in her head getting banged... he shows up at the hospital and takes her back to his hotel to care for her... the second day, the pain is bad, but she refuses to take pain meds... and he relaxes her by massaging her body, insisting she keep relaxed, to the point of orgasim... hmmmmm. And he puts the investigation in other's hands, and puts his libido on hold, and helps her study for her finals.

And someone searches her house, men in black show up at the old assassin's funeral, she is attacked at the university again fighting him off, after the test when she went into the bathroom, they go to the beach to celebrate her tests being over, they fly a kite, they get a hotel room, and he tells her about Eleanor and why he won't marry.... she decides to go for it, and let the chips fall where they may... and their passion is tremendous (in spite of it being luke warm when she last tried it in high school)... and he forgets a condom... and his gut tells him she is pregnant... so he starts on a campaign to get her to marry him...

in the mean time, the politician who was at the elder home wants the kill book, as his father tried to contract with him to kill a man who refused to sell a plot of land... and after his death, dad got it and developed it. and yes, it was listed in the kill book, and a no... so they turn it over to the FBI... though the politician does manage to get onto the private plan (with the help of a merc who knew Brett), and plans to drug Claire & Brett, cause the plane to crash and kill them, and he bails out with a parachute. Brett recognizes the smell of his cologne a little late, but soon enough to rescue Claire and capture him

she realizes she loves him... she meets his warm, rich family, she starts to think that perhaps he loves her, but can't name it love - he needs her, he thinks about her, he treats her extrememly right - he painted her for a year before the wedding... and he goes to Washington DC with the other two ex-mercs - talks about her - realizes he does love her, and what he feels for her pales next to Eleanor... and she is pregnant.. and they marry... ahhhhh

"They're the good guys fighting the bad guys. They'll get the job done - if the price is right and so is the cause. Meet three sexy men who individually are READY, WILLING, AND ABLE to got the distance - and together, are unstoppable..."

Brett "Hotwire" Adams has met his match in Claire Sharp. Brett is a former mercenary. He is starting up a security specialists company with a good friend and former mercenary partner. Life handed Claire Sharp the responsibilities of an adult at an early age. She has learned to depend on herself for anything she needs. She's a vegetarian and one step away from being a pacifist (as far as Hotwire's concerned). There couldn't be two people more different from each other and maybe that's why the sparks fly when they're in same room together.

Hotwire has a real problem with Claire's independent attitude. He doesn't like that she won't ask for help from anyone and feels like she's being a large burden when she does. He also doesn't like her living alone so soon after a terrorist group robbed the place where she lives. He does the only thing he can do, sets up a great security system and puts a can of mace in each room of the house.

Claire thinks Hotwire's concerns are unwarranted. The four culprits from the terrorist group are in federal prison. No one could possibly be interested in coming back. Claire works in an assisted living facility and there are two residents who are as close as family to Claire. Lester and Queenie are like the father and mother figures Claire wished she had as a child. One night, Lester passes away from a heart attack and Claire is devastated. Later that night, Claire is thankful for Hotwire's safety measures. She wakes up with someone trying to suffocate her with a pillow and wards off her attacker with the mace left in the bedroom. Claire wakes up in the emergency room with a small concussion.

Claire doesn't understand why someone would come after her. She has no family ties, she's a full-time college student and she works in an assisted living facility. What could she have possibly done to attract such negative attention? Hotwire isn't sure why someone is after Claire but he doesn't intend to let it happen again. Until her attacker is behind bars he and Claire are going to be joined at the hip.

This was without a doubt my favorite book in the series. The tension between Hotwire and Claire is real and you're swept up for the ride. And Able is filled with suspense, sexual tension, murder, assassins, and government conspiracies. There was also a great mystery to Hotwire and Claire's characters. We were introduced to them in the first two books but not much was mentioned of their pasts which also intrigued me. I actually wanted to know who these people were and what their stories were. Both Hotwire and Claire's past helped to explain the people that they came to be. The plot was great and I had a hard time putting the book down. Getting to this book was well worth the time and effort I put into the first two books!

This is the final book in Lucy Monroe’s Mercenary Trilogy.

Brett “Hotwire Adams is a former merc turned security expert who’s not too keen on the commitment thing, but is very keen on getting into Claire Sharp’s bed. He’s been avoiding her, but when she’s attacked in her home, he’s forced into her company. Which isn’t very good for his self control. Aside from his attraction to her, the protective alpha-male needs her to be safe. Trying to discover who’s after her isn’t easy when he’s always got sex on the brain.

As for Claire, she can’t figure out what an ex-merc with the body of a Greek god wants with her. She understands that they have a love of all things computer in common, but as far as she can tell, that’s the only thing they have in common. She certainly doesn’t understand why he’d be attracted to her. She does know, however, that she trusts him to keep her safe. So when he informs her that he’ll be staying with her until things are resolved, she reluctantly agrees. She’s not sure she can handle being in close proximity to him all the time, but she doesn’t doubt he’ll keep her alive. As the story unfolds, and certain truths come to light, Claire leans on Hotwire more and more, both emotionally and physically.

I think this was a great end to Monroe’s trilogy. Hotwire was everything I expected him to be: Charming, amazing to look at, an excellent lover and lethal when protecting Claire. I thought he was a bit of a moron for taking so long to realize his true feelings for Claire, but I didn’t begrudge him his thick-headedness. How could I, when he was putting another thick head to use so well? (har har)
Claire was a great heroine, too. One of the things I love best about Monroe’s heroines are how grounded they are. Claire knew she wasn’t qualified to handle the threats to her life alone, so she trusted Hotwire to do it for her. That isn’t to say she just turned a blind eye and didn’t help where she could, but she didn’t rush head first into danger to prove she was tough, either. She kept a level head and did what she could to help, but stood back and let Hotwire handle the things he knew how to handle best.

Their arguments over her being a Pacifist had me snickering. The suspense plot took a backseat to the romance, which worked here.
I found myself irritated with Hotwire several times, like when he refused to see what he really felt for Claire and hid behind a promise he made to a dead woman, but he was redeemed in the end. I just love how once he made a commitment, that was end of it. There was no going back and forth, wondering if things were right or not. He realized his feelings and that was that.

I was very disappointed that we didn’t hear anything about Wolf’s sister Daisy, or any of the other characters from her Three Brides for Three Bad Boys anthology. I realize that this series was simply a spin off of that one, but I would still have loved to hear about how things were with them.

The series isn’t without its flaws, but I recommended it.

And Able, the conclusion of mercenary trio series was sensual, sensitive, steamy and full of Southern charm. Lucy Monroe has yet again penned a very powerful book which portrays two characters that have been drawn to each other for a long time. Claire Sharpe, smart, witty and full of sass is a loner due to loosing her father and mother at a young age, under difficult circumstances. Brett Adams has been raised in a "charmed" life but is the families back sheep. Instead of becoming the lawyer, he leaves home after high school graduation and joins the army as a Ranger, then a government agency and is an ex-mercenary. He and his partners are for hire of the cause is worthy and the price right. Brett has only loved once and she died putting her country first over their love. Brett makes a silent promise never to fall in love over her grave. Well life plays strange tricks on people. At his partner's wedding, he feels lust for Claire and she feels the same. Circumstances bring them together again as Brett feels the need to protect Claire when a close friend of hers is murdered and her home is searched and her life threatened.

Their journey and in finding each other, falling in love will just plain take your breath away. Their attraction for each other, their love making, and the feelings swirling around them plus the thrill of danger is a very powerful story and again, Lucy brings her readers to their knees. I'm sorry to see Wolf, Nitro and Hotwire leave plus the women they're fallen in love with but a happy ending none the less. Thanks Lucy for this wonderful series.

Book Description:

Claire Sharp trusts few people and relies on no one. But after her life is threatened, ex-mercenary Brett Adams blows into her self-contained world, full of southern charm, rugged good looks, and enough sexual experience to write a how-to manual...experience he makes it clear he'd like to use on Claire. She wants help fighting the bad guys, but she's not about to fall into Brett's bed. For one thing, the guy has a no-commitment clause better than most big shot attorneys and for another, despite her response to his too sensual kisses, in her experience sex isn't exactly fireworks and brass bands. Definitely not worth getting all excited over...

Brett plans to prove her wrong. He’s never felt such a powerful combination of lust and friendship with a woman. He'll give her a white-hot pleasure like nothing she’s ever known and she'll realize that some things in life are worth taking the risk for. When the threat to Claire grows dangerously close, pitting them against deadly odds, Brett will do whatever it takes to save her. Because Claire Sharp has just found herself a man who’s ready to bring it on, willing to do what it takes, and able to go the distance --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Okay, so it wasn't a vast improvement from the previous two books, but it came across a little freshed, so it deserved a little higher rating (since we don't get half stars, it got a whole one).

Yes, the suspense pretty much went down the drain after it was revealed why the baddies were after Claire, I'd like to see a little more ambiguity to keep things more interesting, but it was okay, I guess. It lasted longer than before, at least.

The characters for once didn't make me flinch (overly much). Claire was a bit too whiny for my tastes and she was apparently blind, but we can credit her childhood for that.
Hotwire has been my favorite of the three mercs since the beginning of the series and I'm glad my "fascination" wasn't unfounded. Like his friends, his excuse for the no-commitment clause was a bit far-fetched and got old pretty fast, but in the end he came through and showed he wasn't as emotionally-retarded as his friends...He was as blind as them, though. To think it took two ex-commitmentphobics to open his eyes to the truth is telling something.

The romance, for once, didn't leave me yawning and its progress was nice and consistent, not the usual snap-of-fingers kind of deal. The only thing that bothered me was the quickness of feeling-development on Claire's side...But the way the two leisurely slid into a more intimate relationship and then accepted what was between them (though it took them a little longer to name the thing between them) was nice to behold and a true relief for me and my fears it might turn into yet another carbon copy of the previous two books.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't a masterpiece and will never end up on my keeper shelf (I'll probably never pick it up again), but after the two duds, this lesser dud was a nice respite.

2ND REVIEW. 1ST REVIEW IS .

Claire has never had a passionate lover. However, when her life is in danger from something she has no idea about, Hotwire comes in to rescue her from it. Will the both be able to face their true feelings for each other before her attacker make another move?

This book is a little less amusing than the other two books in this series, but it still had great descriptions and events. However, the indecisiveness of both Hotwire and Claire made their personalities so different from how they are in the other books. Though, the other characters personalities were still all right. I found both of the main characters a little whiny and very annoying. :|

Yeah, I really didn’t like the main characters, but the descriptions, events, and smut were the only things I really liked about the book. The smut scenes where very yummy. *DROOLS* It didn’t have any condom scenes like the last book, but it had a lot of arguing about him forgetting it. >.>

Anyways, it still had a good blend of suspense and romance, but I could have done without the whining and the feelings conflict between Hotwire and Claire. It also had a pretty good ending for the book and the series was pretty satisfied with the series ending.

This is the last book in this series, however, there are some connected stories. The connected stories are not apart of this series time-line, but they do mention the characters in this series a little bit. The connected stories are .

This book was by far the weakest in this trilogy. As some other reviewers have mentioned, the mystery/action subplot stays very much in the backseat (while the hero and heroine pash in the front) with only a rushed and banal resolution.

However, my main issue was that the hero and heroine irritated me. Claire didn't make any sense to me. She was so oblivious and stubborn. Would this really happen?
She’d never forget the stress or embarrassment of having to explain to the officers who answered the call how she had forgotten to code her entry into the alarm and hadn’t noticed it was going off for several minutes.
Especially in light of her background, I would have thought that an awareness of your surroundings would be a requisite.
If he knew some of the places she’d lived in her life, he would realize the safety of a locked door in a decent neighborhood was a luxury she didn’t take for granted.
And then we had the usual trope about the beautiful woman seeing herself as plain.
Claire knew she wasn’t beautiful . Passable, sure—any woman could be passable—but beautiful was not something she’d ever aspired to. Nor was it something she was ever likely to achieve
Over it.

The hero was an oversexed commitment-shy exhibitionist

It's not denial. I'm just very selective of the reality I accept.

Recommended for: anyone who's read the first two books in the series. Because how can you not finish the trilogy?

The characters we have met in the past two books, Ready and Willing, Claire Sharp and Brett "Hotwire" Adams are the most intriguing and realistic couple, with a more true kind of relationship. Brett has vowed to never fall in love and Claire resists the idea of an uncommitted sexual liaison. The chemistry between the two is highly combustible and carries the reader steadily to the last page.

The plot is a different matter. Claire is attacked in her own bed, despite Brett's safety measures, and even though Brett is supposed to be the best at security detailing and tracking criminals, he is unable to do either successfully. Brett was super sexy and downright devilish at times. When he wasn't being ornery, he was being protective, and when he wasn't being one or the other, he was usually trying to lure Claire into bed, which was usually all the time. (Grin) Brett, too, suffered his share of heartache, thus his commitment policy. That attitude is easy to identify with if you've ever lost a loved one. Unfortunately the loss of a loved one often leads many individuals to swear off ever loving another individual again.

Josie and Nitro make an appearance as do Lise and Wolf. It's nice to be able to revisit with each couple and I hope to be able to revisit with each of these fascinating couples in future books. The villain, who isn't revealed until the end, seemed superhuman, capable of even more than the Mercs, and his final act of tyranny was rather far fetched.

In conclusion, a very worthwhile read and I believe the characters will stick with you long after the inaccuracies and mediocre plot fade away.

This book sadly was like the last one i read...really good plot but disappointing writing. This one may have been even worse. First of all the male lead is referred to as hotwire through half the book, a nickname which is never explained and to me very juvenile. Second during the sex scenes the author started resembling a 12 year old boy in speech. "'nads'", boobs, and the phrase penis hard enough to drill ____(insert hard object here) were found several times through the book which killed the mood for me and it was a shame because im pretty sure otherwise the sex scenes were really hot. I also failed to really like either of the characters very much. I found the male lead very heavy handed and not in a good way-pushing the female lead into sex that she really isn't ready for which pretty much killed anything i might have liked about her. Then the female lead while smart was pretty wimpy for my tastes...and as someone who hangs out with all ex-mercs she sure did have a soft spine. Both leads were so caught up in whining about the past the present was neglected then suddenly bam they're in love and other things that i wont spoil.
Overall it wasnt the worst book ive ever read but i wouldnt read it again and im very glad i didnt pay money for it

I enjoyed the Mercenary series and most of the Goddard Project books, but this one is probably my favorite (this is my 2nd or 3rd reading). I haven't figured out what it is about Hotwire/Brett and Claire that I like so much. Their banter is great, the chemistry scorching, and their respect for one another's abilities is obvious. Claire contributes to solving the mystery, and is brave without being TSTL. It was pure pleasure watching Brett take care of Claire: easing her pain after the attack, helping her study, comforting her while she grieved, etc.

It was nice to see Wolf/Joshua, Lise, Nitro/Daniel, and Josette again. There were a couple of references that made me want to go back and re-read , which makes me want to re-read . There's a reason why is one of my favorites. I may not like everything she writes, but most merit re-readings.

Who knew working in a nursing home could be life threatening for an absent-minded computer science under-grad? Claire Sharp is living alone after Josie, her roommate/best friend/ex-merc, moved in with Daniel "Nitro" Black Eagle. After a break-in and attempt on her life, Brett "HotWire" Adams (Josie and Nitro's fellow soldier) insists on becoming involved.

Discovering Claire possesses a memory-filled notebook belonging to an elderly patient reveals the "why" but not the "who", and the danger to Claire won't end until they find the man hidden in the pages. Through it all, Claire can't understand computer expert Brett's attraction to her, but can he use their time searching for a killer to convince her he's the man for her?

The last of three novels (after "Ready" and "Willing"), the book further demonstrates Lucy Monroe's skill at weaving a steamy, erotic romance with suspense and mystery. It's the kind of book (and series) whose conclusion you can't wait for, but perversely you don't want to end. They've cemented Lucy Monroe as the favorite author of many readers.

(The set does introduce the covert operative characters of "The Goddard Project", the next series.)

This is the last book in the trilogy. It is about Claire Sharp who is finishing up her college degree for computer science. She was also the roommate and bestfriend of Josie.
Claire works at a Assisted Resisantant Home, and she has made friends with two of the older folks. One gentleman is losing his memory and Claire looks on him as a grandfather figure. When he dies she takes it hard. When someone breaks into her home and tries to kill her Brett Adams (Hotwire) steps up and becomes her savior.

Bret is not about to let someone hurt Claire. He is going to find out who is after her and why. Claire says she has no enemies, but then why is someone repeatedly trying to kill her. And what are they after in her house?

This book was good. I really liked Claire's character. But I think that Hotwire's character kind of drug out the old girlfriend thing a little bit to much for my taste for a guy. Come on.... Enough already. Thats the only reason I didn't give this book a five star. The old girlfriend thing got boring to me. Yeck...

This was my favorite of the three books. The characters were well developed and captivating. Claire had experiences growing to adulthood that no child could experience yet she had become a strong women with devotion to her small circle of friends. Hotwire was a friend but they both felt more no matter how much they denied those feelings. Hotwire was an alpha male but had grace and wit and a mind as good as Claire. He had a beautiful childhood but suffered a loss as a young adult that colored his life from that point forward.

When an enemy threatened Claire Hotwire was there. He had to protect his "friend". Their chemistry was hot and real. The reader could feel it burn though the words on the book's pages. At the same time they were likeable and loveable to each other and to the reader. The plot was good and kept moving quickly. A good read and worth the time.

This last story in the Mercenaries trilogy, is my favourite of the three and an enjoyable read. However having reread the series a few times, I'm always reminded that by the end of this story, Claire is pregnant. Yet in the later Goddard Project series, Claire is not pregnant or has a child and nothing is ever mentioned about the baby, even though in Ethan's story (Which follows this one) Brett mentions to Ethan that Claire is out with Josie shopping for the baby. Which to me is very frustrating and the reason I haven't rated this story higher.

Overall though, a good read and the characters (especially the smooth talking Brett, with his sexy Georgian drawl) are very likable and there is more of an element of suspense to this one, plus appearances from Lise, Wolf, Josie and Nitro make it worth a read. :-)

#3 Mercenary trilogy - Romantic Suspense

#1 Ready and #2 Willing were much more entertaining. I quit reading this one -- and almost tossed it at the wall -- when, on page 132, the commitment-phobic Hotwire admits to Claire that his "rule against marriage, or even a majorly committed relationship" is his way of remembering Elena, a deceased girlfriend.

Geez. Hotwire's been hot on Claire's trail seduction-wise from the get-go! If he's so tortured and haunted by Elena's long-ago death, why does he fly from Montana to Portland when her home security system goes off?

Even the first 132 pages weren't grabbing me suspense-wise like the first two. I doubt I'll continue with this author.

This is book #3 in the Mercenary Trilogy. The author started another series called the Goddard Project and it has interaction(s) with the characters from the Mercenary Trilogy. FYI

I enjoyed this entire series (Mercenary and Goddard). Modern spy stuff with hot romance to boot! The books are large paperbacks, too. I think it is neat how she did the titles for this trilogy: Ready, Willing and Able.
Here's the series, so far.
1. Ready
2. Willing
3. and Able
4. Satisfaction Guaranteed (Goddard Project, Book #1)
5. Deal with This (Goddard Project, Book #2)...

Contemporary action/romance with unprotected sex the first time (they get carried away).

This is the 3rd book in the Mercenary Series. You could probably get away with reading it as a stand alone, but the characters in the other 2 books are part of the story. This is Brett & Claire's book. It's a good story about Claire's friend at the retirement home being a former assassin. Trouble finds Claire & of course Brett is there to protect & serve!

This book has the best cover out of the 3.

For a romantic suspense novel, it wasn't very suspenseful. The action part of the story, drawn out over the course of the book, was practically resolved in two pages. But that's okay - I sure didn't read the story for the suspense, but rather for the romance between the two characters, Hotwire, or Brett, and Claire, Jessie's roommate from the second book in the Mercenaries trilogy.

I have like Hotwire's character throughout the other books so I was glad to have a whole book about him. I really liked Claire from the book with Josie and Nitro and with her brains and computer smarts she seemed like a perfect match for Hotwire. This book was fun and sexy...I was not disappointed.
