When he offers to sell her his commercial space if she agrees to a series of dates with him, their chemistry is so scintillating that jumping back into bed seems like an inevitability. Game for Trouble was a sweet second chance romance with plenty of push and pull, and just the right amount of steam. This is the second book in the Game for It series and I loved it just as much if not more than the previous one!

Willow had her heart broken when she was nineteen by an up and coming NFL star, Nick. Fast forward six years and he’s back in her life when her best friend marries his best friend and fellow teammate, Jared. Every since they’ve crossed paths again, he’s hell bent on getting into her pants again, and she is SO shutting down that action.

He was a man who could have anyone he wanted. He’d already had her once and dumped her. Why would he want her again? It made no sense. Yet here he was, whispering in her ear how much he wanted her, needed her

She’s grown since that passionate summer where they couldn’t keep their hands off each other, whenever and wherever they were. She’s grown in confidence and smarts, and she’s not about to let her hormones get the better of her now. Willow prides herself on being an independent and strong woman. She’s built a business from the ground up without daddy’s money, and that’s her main focus now. Willow just needs to secure the perfect business property so she can take her business to the next level. Little does she know Nick is the property owner!

Nick made one of the biggest mistakes in his life when he let Willow go six years ago. He wants her back on a permanent basis. He’s been trying to wear down her defenses but she keeps shutting him down. When Nick finds out he owns the property that Willow has been stalking, and salivating over, he plans on using the deal as his way in. She needs a better price, and he needs her to give him the time of day. All’s fair in love and war, right? I guess we’ll see.

Willow was a tricky character for me to like at first. She kept pushing Nick away—hard, but after seeing how much Nick hurt and affected her by leaving six years ago I could see why she wanted to protect her heart. She was madly in love/lust with him and the years that have past haven’t diminished her strong feelings. When a girl thinks a guy is only interested in getting into her pants and then moving on, she has to put her guard up, and that’s exactly what Willow did. Unfortunately her body can only take so much temptation:

“Stop touching me, she whispered when he hadn’t answered, his fingers still on her face, his thumb grazing the corner of her lips. “I like touching you. I want to do more than touch you.

Umm.YES, please!!!

Nick was a sweetie with a big heart! I just adored him. He had a humble, laid back attitude with down home charm (love a Southern accent! *sigh*) He’s persistent, thank goodness, because Willow gives him quite a fight. It’s a good thing he’s got charm, good looks and skills that could melt the ice in any snow queen’s heart! These two have a fiery hot attraction with scenes that could light up anyone’s kindle (or Nook)!

Game for Trouble
is a feel-good, sweet and sexy romance with the HEA we all crave, sure to lift your spirits and put a happy grin on your face! Karen Erickson scores another win with this installment!

Now I’m wondering who will be in the next story; wholesome, good boy, Flynn? I guess I’ll have to wait and see.

4.5 Finding Love Again Stars

Game for Trouble is a standalone and is the second book in the Game for It series.

This is Willow and Nick’s story.

Nick and Willow dated a long time ago. It was a fairy tale romance. They were both young and carefree. Willow was a teenager and was so in love with Nick. She comes from a wealthy family and wanted to be with Nick. One day Nick breaks it off from Willow and never looked back.

Years later, Willow is trying to make it on her own, without her father’s connects. She needs prime rental space for her business. Nick owns the building. He’s willing to give Willow a discount if she agrees to his terms.

Nick wants 8 dates with Willow. If Willow agrees to the 8 dates then she can get the rental space for her business. Nick wants Willow back. He knows Willow will never give him a second chance, so he wants to use the dates to change her mind.

Willow agrees to the proposition.

Don’t you love the story-line?! I love long-lost love, finding-each-other-again, kind of storylines. I love the banter between Willow and Nick. I loved that Willow doesn’t want anything to do with Nick. I agree with Willow because Nick BROKE her heart. She cares for him still, but there’s a lot of pain.

We don’t know the reason why Nick breaks it off with Willow but he regrets it big time. Now, he’s successful and can have anything he wants, including women, but the one he wants doesn’t want him. Nick is pulling all the stops in wooing Willow.

I liked how Nick goes after Willow. I liked how he still has lingering feelings and feels remorseful on how everything ended. Willow tries hard to push Nick away, but of course Nick makes it hard. Slowly secrets are revealed and it creates a little angst.

It’s an overall, sweet, short and easy read. If you are a fan of the series you will not be disappointed.

AUDIO

This is my second audio book in the series. I LOVED the change in this one. This one is written from both POV and I LOVE listening to male narrators. I feel like it gave a little more something to the story. Nick’s POV rounded everything together and it just made the story so much more. I loved the female narrator. I found her voice young, sweet and a little sassy. I think the male and female voice narrators were the perfect paring.

If you could sum up Game for Trouble in three words, what would they be?

Sweet, Short and Easy

What other book might you compare Game for Trouble to and why?

Any light book with a finding love again story-line. Some example authors are: Jackie Barbosa, Amanda Usen, Gina Gordon, Nina Croft, Seleste deLaney

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked when Nick propositions Willow. I loved how he used the dates to get Willow back. It was really cute.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I think Game for Trouble was just all-around sweet and entertaining. I liked this one a bit more than Game for Marriage. I really enjoyed the dual POV’s and I loved the banter between Nick and Willow.

For once in her life, she wasn't going to weigh the risk. She was going after what she wanted. And what she wanted more than anything was Nick.

For those that don't know, Karen Erickson is the pen name for the fabulous Monica Murphy. And while I love, absolutely LOVE Monica Murphy books, her writing under Karen Erickson is quite different. Not that that's a bad thing. It's what I like to call Brazen-y. :)
I truly enjoyed Game for Trouble, I just didn't LOVE it.

When I initially read the book synopsis, I pictured Nick a bit different in my head. I read 'cocky playboy' and my mind just goes off on a tangent. Don't get me wrong, he was still sexy as sin, but not so much cocky as he was almost mopey for parts of the book.

Years ago Nick and Willow were a couple that burned up the sheets. Then something happens, and Nick leaves her with a broken heart to pursue his football career.

Now he's back and Willow is fining him hard to escape what with his friend and team member, Jared, being married to her best friend.

Nick knows that he made a huge mistake leaving Willow, and all he wants now is a second chance and he's not above blackmail to get it.

Willow was a character that I liked at some parts and wanted to shake in others. She was spunky and wasn't afraid to tell Nick where to stuff it. But I thought she was almost a bit too hard on him at times. I realize that she was hurt when he left, but Nick was obviously trying his hardest to make it up to her and she would always jump to the worst conclusion with him.

I read this book in one nigh, though I did find myself skimming through some parts I got slightly bored with.

It was a cute romance, but for me it was missing that something extra. That little oomph to make it a 5 star read. My 2 biggest quibbles were with the ending.
1.
2.

Aside from those two things, I did enjoy the book. It was a quick, cute, and steamy, although predictable and fluffy read. And while it wont be going on my keeper shelf, I still liked it.

If you like sport romances with sexy heroes, steamy love scenes, and spunky heroines, definitely give this one a go.

2 - "All this push and pull is confusing as hell." Stars.

After reading and enjoying book one of the Game for It series, I was eager to start book 2, and see how Willow and Nick's story panned out...

I have gone from a 4 star 'I loved this book!!!' treat with Game for Marriage, to a 2 star 'What the hell went wrong.' total disappointment with book 2.

What went wrong, for me... One Word - Willow.

"No matter what, I can't win with you... I'm honest with you and you tell me to leave anyway."

For a woman so desperate to shake of the little rich girl persona and make it on her own in the big wide world, Willow certainly had a really good go in excelling in acting like a spoiled little princess for most of this book.

I loved Nick, the guy practically gave the woman his balls on a plate by the end of the book, and for the most part it still wasn't good enough for her.

"I messed up first time around. I want another shot."

I going to leave it at that, and move on to book 3. We all have an off day, this was Karen Erickson's.

Game for Trouble is book 2 in the Game for It series by Karen Erickson. I had no idea this book was part of a series when I first started it, and yet it read fine as a stand-alone.

I REALLY LIKED this book so much, that the pages were turning quickly and I had a very hard time putting it down.

I absolutely LOVED the hero Nick, he was so darn sexy. He knew what he wanted, Willow, and went after her. They were a couple 6 years earlier and Nick had been in love with Willow. He was young at 21 years old, and had just started his profession football career. Willow was just 19 when she first met Nick, and the two of them were HOT and HEAVY. In steps Willow's dad, who thought Nick was not good enough, figured their relationship would never last, and that Nick would break his daughter's heart. So, he threatened to ruin Nicks football career if he did not break it off with Willow. Willow was crushed when Nick dumped her, and of course she had no idea it was because of her dad. When Nick turns up 6 years later trying for a second chance to win Willow back, she wants nothing to do with him even if deep down she still very much wants him. Nick finally finds a way to get Willow to give in and spend time with him, by blackmailing her into going on 8 dates with him. The banter these two shared when they were together was really something. Every time they started to argue, they ended up getting it on hot and heavy. PHEW-WEEE, theses scenes were SCORCHING, the chemistry between these two SIZZLED!!! After they dated quite a few times and things were going good, Nick slips and ends up telling Willow why he broke it off all those years ago. Willow did not react the way I thought she would, instead she gets angry and they end up separated once again. This made me want to hit her upside her head and ask...what's the matter with you?

We did get some football scenes that I enjoyed and thought were a very exciting way to add some action to this read. I also enjoyed reading about Willow's career. It was a very original idea and I liked that even though her family was VERY wealthy, she stood on her own and started a business with no help from daddy.

In the end, Nick decided that there was NO WAY he was going to be without Willow. I absolutely LOVED the way this book ended and YES we got an epilogue that made me a very happy reader.

Overall, I thought this was a fun and an Oh SO HOT romantic read. I would love to read many more of Karen Erickson's books in the future.

Willow and Nick had a fling years ago when they were both young, probably too young to be so serious. Willow’s father warned Nick away from his daughter, threatening his up and coming football career so he ended things with Willow and broke her heart. Years later, they’re forced back together when Willow wants to rent a space in a building that Nick owns for her new cotton candy business. In exchange for a lower rent that she can afford, she agrees to go on a handful of dates with Nick. Now that he’s finally back in her life, he’s determined to make it work this time around. He never forgot about her, never stopped loving her and he wants a second chance.

I’m going to focus on the romance in this review because that’s the basis of the story and what didn’t work for me at all. Willow is full of hate and comes off as easily annoyed at everything Nick and says and does early on. But that doesn’t stop her from wanting sex, lots of sex with Nick and their dates turn into basically bootie calls, her words, and they never really talk about their relationship, or even acknowledge they have one until closer to the end of the story. Then it feels like suddenly Nick is declaring that she is HIS, and Willow is falling back in love with him but won’t dare admit it. Throughout the entire story she’s so adamant about not getting back into a relationship with him that I forgot why she didn’t want to be with him in the first place. The romance just didn’t click with me from basically the start and nothing happening throughout the course of the book that changed my mind unfortunately.

But the big annoyance for me is when Nick and Willow finally have it out about everything and instead of acting mature about it all Willow wants Nick to leave and then gets hurt and pissed when he does leave. I pretty much checked out of the story at that point. Willow wanted him to leave, he left and now she feels hurt because he did what she said? No thanks. I mean, I get that the scene is emotional, they both say things in the heat of the moment, but the way Willow acted came off badly and made me think, why should I like this character?

There was just something big missing for me between Willow and Nick. There needed to be more romance, something more than just their history and the sex they were currently having to make me care about them. With depth in the romance lacking, and an overall slow story pace, I had a hard time getting through the story.

Sigh.

A stumbling block that I've come upon in romance is that while a lot of authors know how to write chemistry and sex scenes, they falter when it comes to making it all believable. Game For Trouble is a book that suffers from this problem.

I went in to this with some interest because of the heroine presented. Willow Cavanaugh comes from a rich family, and she could have anything she wanted... But she refuses to take advantage of that, even though it would help her get her business off the ground. While this is a convenient plot development to get her close to Nick, the story's romantic hero, it's still characterization that I like. An independant, fierce woman who's determined to support herself even when she doesn't have to? I'll take that!

Unfortunately, her counterpart is a bit more cookie-cutter. He's a jock, he fell in love with Willow when he was a teenager and he's still in love with her, but circumstances have kept them apart. Nothing too interesting to see here - the typical bad-boy jock who seems to mostly serve as the fodder to get the reader's romantic thoughts going.

To be honest, the characterization in this book was what drove me nuts the most.

Throughout the course of the book, I didn't really get an idea as to what brings them together, other than that they lust after each other. There's the bit of bonding when the main thing that kept them apart years ago comes out into the open, but other than that I don't really know what makes Willow like Nick so much. We get some insight from him, but they're the standard romance tropes - she's feisty, she's sweet, she's beautiful, she's smart.

This lack of romantic basis for the reader to get involved in tends to be a weakness with some books that base it all on a romance that started off years ago - the reader still needs to know what brought them together and it can be hard to convey that when you're trying to work with two characters who love each other but you need to show the reader why. It can be done, but here I don't think it was done very successfully.

This had potential, but it just needed more to bring it up to par.

OK so this is my first audio arc review let's see how this goes....

First I'd like to say that I really really am enjoying the world of audio books. They just make the work day go by so nicely and I find myself not wanting to staple my eyes shut during the hectic work day/week. This book was just what I need last week and before I knew it, it was Friday and I was grinning like a fool as the last words of this wonderful story were spoken.

I really have been enjoying the duel voices when listening to audio books. I'm not surprised I always loved a man's pov, so hearing a sexy voice in my ears is just as nice if not better. The narrators in this book just made me wanna do a happy dance. The male reader, Mr. Douglas Berger was just so damn charming with his southern drawl and sexy voice. I nearly lost my damn mind when I had his voice is my ear speaking all kinds of filthy things to me. I will most defiantly be checking out more books that Douglas Berger narrates.

The female narrator, Ms. Holly B Goe, was equally as sweet and charming in her musical voice. She really brought the character of Willow to life. I loved how she put such sass into her voice when Willow was calling Nick out on his shit.

The story as a whole was just too darn cute. I didn't read book one and although I and def going to go back and read it asap, it was not needed in order to enjoy the wonders that are Willow and Nick. Nick is a hot and sexy star football player for their hometown team The Hawks. There is old history between Willow and Nick, and it didn't end well the first time around for them. However, those were due to reasons that are unknown to Willow at the time. Through the years of being apart, Nick never forgot Willow or the crazy way to loves her. He vows to get her back someday and when this man has a plan in mind... Try and stop him. I highly recommend this sweet, sexy, and oh so playful story. Oh and do yourself a favor and get it on audio too, trust me when you hear these two banter back and forth in your ear, you won't be sorry. They truly bring the characters to life.

The 2nd story in the “Game for It series by Karen Erickson, features Willow Cavanaugh, Sheridan Harper’s best friend, and Nick Hamilton, Jared Quinn’s best friend. Nick and Willow briefly dated when she was 19 and Nick was about to begin his professional football career with the San Jose Hawks. Now, 6 years later, he’s back in her life and he wants her back.

Willow wants to rent some commercial space that Nick owns and he agrees if Willow will go out
with him on 8 dates. Willow tries to push Nick away but the attraction is just too strong and she’s falling all over again…trying to keep him from breaking her heart again.

Honestly, this book was not as good as the first in the series. You had to admire Nick’s persistence and how much he wanted her back but Willow acted like a spoiled brat for most of the book and after a while you just wanted Nick to move on.

EASY READING

This is the second book in this series. The first Game For Marriage featured Jared and Sheridan. Willow is Sheridan's best friend and Nick Hamilton is a fellow player on the football team with Jared.

Willow has history with Nick, six years ago they had been an item but it ended badly. But now Nick is constantly on her radar, her best friend is married to his teammate which brings them constantly into contact. Nick wants Willow back, but that's not happening. Then by chance he discovers he has something Willow wants. He decides to use this to get his own way with her.

I loved the first book in this series, and was really looking forward to this one, and while it's a nice read and well written. It just doesn't have the fire and electric chemistry that the first book had. Willow was a bit too moody for my liking. I understood she had a lot on her plate but she blew hot and cold too much. I loved Nick he was warm and sexy. The story overall was okay, but it needed fleshing out a bit more.

This was rather disappointing.

I can't say I really liked either character. Nick didn't stand out to me, and Willow just came across as pushy, uncertain, and impatient. I didn't get her whole push-pull thing with Nick, especially after the first date.

The romance, therefore, was bland and I can't really say I felt much of a connection between the two characters.

I'm glad that Willow didn't have too much drama with her father, though, and I do admire her for starting her own business and creating her own success.

Overall, not great.

Willow Cavanaugh and Nick Hamilton had a brief affair when they were younger and circumstances forced Nick to walk away from Willow, leaving her heartbroken. Now, years later, Nick is back and wants another chance with Willow, but Willow wants nothing to do with Nick.

Unfortunately Nick owns the building that Willow wants to rent for her rapidly growing business. Nick agrees to the rental but only if Willow will go on a series of dates with him. Willow agrees but is adamant that the dates are nothing more than a means to an end. As Nick slowly begins to work his way back into Willow’s bed, he’s finding that her heart is a much harder place to reach.

Game For Trouble, second in the Game For It series, is a lightweight romance contemporary whose focus is second chance love. Our couple met when Willow was nineteen and Nick was twenty one and just starting his football career in the NFL. Willow’s father, a well connected sports agent, threatened Nick’s career if he didn’t leave Willow alone. Nick made the only choice he could at the time and left and Willow has hated Nick from that day forward. As Nick attempts to charm and woo Willow, he finds his charm isn’t working this time around. Willow believes he only wants back into her pants and refuses to allow him an inch.

This particular trope is not a favorite of mine though some authors can make it work. I don’t quite understand the reasoning behind carrying a grudge for years over a breakup. I can understand wanting closure but that much hate and anger isn’t healthy and frankly shows the character in a bad light. Which it does here. Willow spends the majority of the book being catty and nasty to Nick. She blows hot and cold, though she has no problems sleeping with him. In her defense, Nick choice to blackmail her into the dates, using her business against her, does leave a bad taste in her mouth. Nick’s choice to also play with Willow, rather than be serious and tell her how he really feels made me think at times that he wasn’t serious. As we are given Nick’s point of view, we know this to not be true, but he doesn’t show Willow that. They both act childish and annoying through a majority of the book.

The story rushes in some areas and drags along in others. Some humorous dialogue makes for easier reading but overall the story feels forced and unfinished. Erickson does well in revealing the drive behind our protagonists, which in turn explains in some ways the way they are acting now. Nick’s PR is that he is the fun loving good time guy on his team. The women flock to him and he take nothing seriously. Willow is a poor little rich girl who is struggling to get out from under her well meaning father’s thumb. The growth aspect isn’t readily apparent and I see both of them acting as they did 6-7 years ago though Nick seems to show more maturity towards the end. The romance is bare bones. Not much chemistry or sexual tension. It felt like old hookups reconnecting. We never really learn what their attraction to each other besides outstanding sex. The lack of history we are given doesn’t give us the base on which to build our beliefs.

When the main conflict is finally blown open, Willow’s arguments made me want to rip my hair out. It became all about her. She manages to turn everything Nick says around and suddenly he has far reaching motives for wanting back into her life. One particular argument she makes about how she couldn’t believe his career was more important than her really made me look at her in an unflattering light. And the fact that she realises she’s being unfair but still forces him to come to her in apology just cinched it for me. For all her posturing and adult notions, she was still a child emotionally.

Though fans of this series will probably enjoy, I fear this one was just didn’t quite make the grade for me.

Game For Trouble by Karen Erickson
Book Two of the Game For It series
Publisher: Brazen
Publication Date: October 28, 2013
Rating: 3 stars
Source: Kindle copy from Amazon (sent by Brazen - thank you!)

***Warning: this is an adult book, and for the eyes of mature readers***

Summary (from ŷ):

He’ll play dirty to get what he wants Willow Cavanaugh would be happy if she never saw cocky football star Nick Hamilton again. Sure, their fling was the hottest she’d had, but he’s way too much of a playboy to settle down with one woman. Plus, she’s got her heart set on a piece of real estate for her catering business—and Nick owns that property. Nick may be at the top of his game, but all he wants is a second chance with Willow. When he offers to sell her his commercial space if she agrees to a series of dates with him, their chemistry is so scintillating that jumping back into bed seems like an inevitability. But Willow’s decided all’s fair in sex and blackmail. Little does she know, Nick’s playing to win…and she’s the prize.

What I Liked:

First, thank you to the lovely Brazen publicist (looking at you, Jessica!) that gifted me a Kindle copy of this novel! That was so sweet, and she did not have to do that. I'm glad she did though! I had the opportunity to read this book, and while I didn't *love* it, I appreciate the thought. Thank you!

This novel features Willow and Nick. Willow is kind of uptight, but she's determined to run her business on her own, without her father's money. Nick happens to be the owner of the building she wants to rent, and she has to make a business deal with him to get what she wants for her business. Nick agrees to her conditions, but she must do something for him: go out with him eight times (or was it nine? Go out with him for a fixed number of dates).

This book follows the dates that Willow and Nick go on. I love the thought and creativity that Nick puts into the dates. Years ago, Willow's father forced Nick to break up with Willow. Years later, Nick is determined to have her back. He's a good man - he thinks about what Willow wants, and not just what he wants.

The romance and chemistry in this book is pretty steamy, but it's not one of the steamier Brazen novels I've read. I liked it, for the most part, but I expected more. I had problems with Willow, which contributed to my problems with the chemistry and romance.

But, the novel was a pretty okay novel. The ending was happy! Happy endings are great.

What I Did Not Like:

I had huge problems with Willow, which is why this book gets the low rating that it does. I pretty much flat-out hated Willow. She is insane, she leads Nick on a merry chase, a stupid dance, and she is ungrateful. She blames Nick for EVERYTHING, even AFTER she finds out that Nick left her only because her father forced him to break up with her. She's so annoying! And selfish! And rude! Horrible human being.

I mean, I totally get that she wants to be Ms. Independent Businesswoman or whatever, but she can't appreciate a good thing if it were staring her in the face. Which it was. In the form of Nick Hamilton.

Poor Nick. He deserved better. He spent all that time wooing a woman who is ungrateful. Blehh.

Would I Recommend It:

Err, not really. Yes and no. It was worth the read, but don't go breaking your neck for this one. For the most part, I love Brazen books, and there are plenty of awesome ones out there. Try a different Brazen book!

Rating:

3 stars. Pretty good, but not mind-blowing. I enjoyed the book though!

I absolutely loved Game for Marriage when I read it earlier this year so I couldn't wait to get my hands on the sequel Game for Trouble. I had high hopes for Nick and Willow's story and I'm happy to say that Karen Erickson has created another sexy story with great characters. I don't think I enjoyed it quite as much as the first book but it's still a solid romance and one that I'd be happy to recommend.

Nick and Willow have history, they had a very hot fling one summer several years ago but Nick broke Willow's heart when he walked away from her. They hadn't seen each other for years but now that Willow's best friend Sheridan has married Nick's team mate Jared they can't seem to get away from each other. Nick has always regretted walking away from Willow, in fact it was something he never really wanted to do in the first place, and now he is determined to claim the only woman he has ever loved. Willow is still attracted to Nick but she knows how easy it would be to fall back in love with him and she is terrified of having her heart broken all over again. Can Nick convince her that if she gives him her heart again he'll treasure it forever?

I loved Nick, like Jared he is cocky and arrogant but he manages to pull it off without becoming annoying. He is confident with his looks and body and has never had any trouble getting women to go out with him but Willow is different, she's the only one he cares about and the only one who seems immune to his charms. He is desperate to win her around but he has no idea how to go about it. I enjoyed the scenes where he was asking Jared and Sheridan for advice, it was nice to catch up with the previous couple and their insights into Nick and Willow's relationship were amusing. I loved how persistent Nick was, he shows over and over again how much he cares for Willow. He wants her in his bed but he also wants to look out for her and protect her.

I'm going to be honest and say I didn't like Willow as much as I expected to, I could understand why she was so scared to trust Nick again and I didn't have a problem with that in the beginning. He needed to work at gaining her trust and I was happy with that, I also liked the fact that she was so independent and wanted to make her own way in the world rather than live off of her father's money. What I didn't like was the fact that even after she admitted to herself that she loved Nick and that he loved her she wasn't willing to apologise for the mistakes she'd made. Nick worked his butt off for the whole book to win her around and I really wanted some kind of grand gesture from her towards the end to prove that she was worthy of his attention but once again it was Nick who had to come to her after she'd pushed him away. I loved the actions Nick took and they definitely made me swoon but I'd have liked more to have come from Willow's direction. That's very much a personal preference though and wasn't enough to stop me from enjoying the story.

Their chemistry was off the charts hot, once they gave in to their attraction there was no stopping them which fantastic. They literally can't keep their hands off each other which lead to a very hot public encounter! Game for Trouble was a fab story and I'm looking forward to reading more from Karen Erickson in the future.

A hottie football player, rekindled romance, and bad-breakup angst…yes, please! Willow and Nick were one of those book couples suffering from the shadows of their youth. They had met and fallen in love years ago, when she was just 19, and shared an incredible summer together only to be torn apart when he left. And suffice it to say, he’s not been forgiven. Willow had no interest in being ensnared by the man who swept her off her feet only to drop her on her ass, even though he was trying really, really hard to change her mind!

Just when Willow thought her life was coming together and she was on her way to a successful business, you-know-who comes waltzing in to break the news: that property she wants? It’s his. Even though this was all revealed in the synopsis, I loved the scene where Willow first finds out Nick is behind the deal of a lifetime for her career! Her reaction was great, as was his arrogantly pleased response. I knew right then and there it was going to be a very bumpy ride for these two!

Nick’s proposition for Willow may have given them both something they wanted in theory, but surviving through more time with him and not losing her heart yet again was a serious challenge for her. I was happy that Nick changed things up a bit when his plan wasn’t working, because the back-and-forth due to Willow’s impenetrable brick wall was frustrating. She really wasn’t about to give him a second chance, but when he cleared the air and filled her in on what really happened all those years ago, the cracks started setting in.

The backstory between Willow and Nick wasn’t delved into as much as it could have been, but we get to see how that incredible summer affected both of them through the dual point of view. Nick may be the big tough football player and have a seductively dirty mouth, but he’d also lost his heart to Willow back in the day. Yes, he was a little over-the-top with his frequent come-ons and naughty flirting with her, but there was an emotional connection there too. I can’t say they were one of those couples that you just instinctively saw together and knew they were meant to be, because they had some serious issues getting on the same page for awhile, but they clearly had a bond beyond the physical that made me anxious for their happily ever after!

Romance fans will definitely enjoy this second-chance love story, and I look forward to more from Karen Erickson!

Quotes:

How she hated needing his help. At Nick’s mercy was the last place she wanted to be. But there she was, ready to beg and plead if needed. No getting down on her knees, though. She was so done with that scenario it wasn’t even funny. ~p. 33

Damn, he had it bad.
There was no doubt in his mind that he would conquer her. Make her his once and for all. Game motherfucking on. ~p. 44

Hell. His life had just taken a turn for the scary and unknown. Again. Just like the last time. ~p. 173

Game for Trouble has it all. Hot professional football player? Check. Second chance romance? Check. Crazy, passionate chemistry? Double check. In Game for Marriage we met Willow Cavanaugh, Sheridan's best friend, and Nick Hamilton, Jared's teammate and friend. There was some hint at a deeper past between Willow and Nick but, it never came to light in the first book. Game for Trouble picks up more, or less, where GfM left off. Willow and Nick have been spotted smooching a few times but, Willow is dead set against allowing it to happen again. Instead she has decided to throw herself into her work and finally lease out a storefront for her business. Little does she know that Nick owns the building she is trying to lease. Nick is fine with the monetary aspects of their contract but, he wants more from Willow. He wants a second chance at the relationship he was forced to throw away years ago.

I am such a huge fan of second chance stories. I love that the characters already have a history and we can jump into the meat of the problems without the whole getting to know you bit. Especially with Willow and Nick, these two just start out with banter and laugh out loud interactions. I could tell from GfM that Willow was a little hellion, and she definitely solidifies that role in Game for Trouble. She tries so hard to resist Nick but, neither one of them can squash their lingering feelings. Willow stood up for herself in every aspect of this book, she is definitely not a wallflower just waiting to fall back into Nick's bed. Nick on the other hand, is pulling out all the stops to get Willow back in his life for good. Nick and Willow definitely have an "I hate you, I love you" relationship. They push and pull until they eventually collide and decide to come to terms with their past and their present situation.

I couldn't help but cheer for this couple. While they haven't necessarily lived tragic lives, they haven't had the easiest ones either. In Game for Trouble they have to defy the odds that everyone else is placing on them as well as the obstacles they create for themselves. It was not an easy journey for these two but, I definitely think it was worth it in the end. We get to see more of Willow's sensitive side in GfT that we weren't privy to in GfM, and we also get to delve deeper into Nick's character. Nick, for me, is basically the perfect man. He's sweet and caring but also goes after what he wants, and let's not forget the hot factor, because he has that in abundance as well :) I really can't wait for another book in this series. Karen Erickson has a penchant for creating such lovable characters that you cannot wait to read more about. Her books are equal parts hilarious and steamy and I have yet to find one that I could put down! Game for Trouble is out TODAY (10/28) so make sure to pick up a copy!!

Happy Reading!

I love a romance with a history. And Game for Trouble delivers just that A history of a summer affair filled with young love that ended abruptly. Too abruptly for our heroine Willow.

You’ll have to excuse me while Love is a Many Splendored Thing plays in my mind. Because all summer love stories bring back vivid memories of this...

Willow was only nineteen years old when she fell in love with Nick. *sigh* Everything is so much more when we’re that age, isn’t it? We feel things to their fullest; we jump in without regards to the possible implications that it is just that young love. But the truth is, for most of us, we never forget our first loves. And that’s definitely the case for Willow.

And while she’s never forgotten Nick and how wonderful their summer together was, she’s also never forgotten how devastated she was when he just left her. And she’s not a happy woman at all.

I liked the premise of this. Even though, if I’m being honest, sports heroes never really do it for me. I don’t swoon over the all-American man. However, I really did (end up) liking Nick. And mostly, I liked him because he’s aware. He knows what he did, but of course, there’s always another side to every story. Including Nick’s story from that summer and what forced him to walk away.

I loved the little twist the author used to bring them back together. And I adored how aggressive Nick was in his pursuit of her. He knows what he wants, and he definitely wants Willow back. He just doesn’t get her the way he thinks he will.

This was definitely steamy.

“Ride me, he whispered, gripping her hips and lifting her up. She slid down slowly, too damn slowly fpr his tastes, and he pushed her until her ass met his thighs and the both of them were groaning. “Yeah, just like that.

And even though there’s a lot of push and pull that can sometimes be tedious to read, their ending was a happy one, and I found that I was definitely invested in them together.

Contemporary Romance readers will enjoy this, and there’s enough heat to keep erotica readers interested. If you’re a sucker for stories about ‘the one who got away,' then this is the book for you.

When I read Karen Erickson's Game for Trouble, I wondered about the mysterious connection between two of the story's minor characters, Willow and Nick, which seemed to be deeper than their fleeting rendezvous suggested. In the follow up sequel, Game for Trouble, the couple gets a second chance at romance when old feelings are rekindled. The backstory revealed to be between Nick and Willow is clouded by heartache, providing ample ammunition for the cutting barbs they sling at each other like weapons. The passion between them ignites an emotionally charged current that doesn’t let up until the book’s end.

The relationship between him and Willow is equal parts frustrating and amusing. I enjoyed their witty banter which somehow managed to be both flirtatious and hostile. The sexual tension simmered between them, growing more powerful as the narrative progressed and leading to some seriously steamy encounters. At the start of the book, Nick has a lot of work ahead of him to regain Willow's trust, but his aggressive pursuit of the woman he wants made my heart melt for his character.

If this book didn't have alternate point-of-views, I would've driven myself crazy wondering what was going on in their minds. There is a lot of back and forth, give and take, and push and pull between the two characters, stemming from Willow's mistrust of Nick's motives. I didn't blame her for her hesitation, but at the same time, I knew Nick's side of the story and was sympathetic towards his actions. There are a number of miscommunications that draws out their inevitable reconciliation, but the buildup is the best part of the story.

Karen Erickson's Game for It series is sexy and entertaining, pairing strong and athletic Alpha heroes with sassy and spunky heroines. The ride isn't always smooth, but the many bumps along the road only make each Happily Ever After that much sweeter. I can only imagine what's in store for the next couple that will continue the series, but judging by the quick preview we get in Game for Trouble, the prospective couple should prove to be yet another intriguing romantic connection.

I'm so glad I decided to start reading this amazing series. Game For Marriage had me interested, but Games For Trouble had me hooked!

Willow Cavanaugh and Nick Hamilton have history. It's not your typical daisies and flowers type of story either. Let's just say that Nick crushed Willow's heart at young age of 19 and she's never been the same. The heartache of losing your first love will always do that to you. Strange that a couple of years later they happen to run into each other and all of those feelings come flying back. The feelings hadn't left, they were just hidden under everything. Nick will try everything in his power to get Willow back, he will even resort to blackmail if he has to. Willow won't easily give in especially when she holds that breakup so close to her heart.

These two first caught my eye in Game For Marriage. Always sneaking around and being pretty vague about what was going on between them. So when I found out that Mrs. Erickson had decided to do their story next, I was beyond thrilled! Not only do we get an insight as to what really happened between the two, but we also see the development of where they are headed. Willow is as stubborn as ever and I completely adore her. She tries to fight as much as she can, but honestly, you can never forget your first love.

The roles were reversed here, in the sense that the guy was the one pinning after the girl instead of the girl drooling for the guy (which there was some of that too). Willow is a strong character with pride and you can't blame her. How she was able to resist him for so long is still beyond me. Nick was such a fantastic character to read, he never gave up on what he wanted and his main target has always been to get back with Willow. I highly recommend reading Game For Trouble if you are looking to read a hot steamy read.

Game for Trouble is the second book in this series about these football players and this time we're getting a closer look at the respective best friends from the first book; Nick and Willow.

Nick and Willow already share some history from years ago, but they ended on bad terms. Fast-forward several year and they meet again. This time Willow is determined not to fall for Nick again, but the problems is he has something she really needs. Which gives Nick the perfect opportunity to win her heart all over again.

My & 's for Game for Trouble:
Quick & fun: This is a short book, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. It's a quick and hot read, perfect for my commute. I really liked how time just flew by while I was reading this and you just got to love that.

Holy hotness: Honestly, who in the hell can resist a smoking hot NFL-player working hard to win over his girl? Not me, that's for sure. I really liked Nick and his charming ways. I was on his team from the very beginning. The passion between Willow and Nick was scorching and definitely worth mentioning!

Cranky Willow: Wow, this girl sure knows how to hold a grudge and she just ended up being annoying to me!

Rushed: Although I did enjoy this one being a quick read, I did feel it was a bit rushed at times. I felt like the relationship and their growing connection between Nick and Willow could have been elaborated more. I also felt like there was some unresolved issues left. An example,

Overall, I liked this book and think it deserves 3.5 stars. I will definitely check a third book about the goody two shoes footballer I hope is coming :)

GAME FOR TROUBLE was so much fun to read! It gave me exactly what I look for in my steamy reads. Hot football player: check. Hot sex scenes: check. Second chance at love: check. Perfect recipe for a great read. Am I right?!

I have to say that I was curious about Nick and Willow from the first book. I had a feeling that there may be something going between them. Turns out I was right. So, now here we are with this fiery couple. The story starts out with Willow and Nick meeting to negotiate on a property that Nick owns. Willow wants the space for her catering business. Well, Nick just wants Willow. So, he's going to play a little hard ball with her. He tells her he'll agree to leasing her the property if she agrees to go on dates with him. Willow wants the space bad enough that she agrees. Of course, it's not really a hardship to date a sexy guy, but these two have a history.

I think the fact that they had history is what I liked the most about this couple. We get bits and pieces of what happened between them and what caused their break-up throughout the book and honestly, I would have loved seeing flashback bits of them. But, I also appreciated the focus on the relationship in the now. They've both grown so much and well...they're older and more mature. Nick is definitely more prepared to balance a relationship and his career. And Willow, she's more settled and more independent. The timing may have been off for them in the past, but one thing is certain; they have a connection that can't be denied.

Overall, I really enjoyed Game For Trouble. Nick is one yummy dude and there were a lot of ways that I could relate to Willow. I loved seeing Jared and Sheridan again too. I love that they're all best friends. I'm also anxious to get to the next book in the series. I think it's going to be a good one! If you are a fan of steamy romance, check this series out!

Game for Trouble by Karen Erickson
4 Stars

Willow and Nick both exiting their teen years have one incredibly hot and steamy summer together. They spend every second together and are madly, madly in love. Or so Willow thought. Nick leaves to pursue his NFL career dream and breaks her heart into a million pieces. She tortures herself for years wondering what she did to make him go from loving her to dumping her so abruptly and leaving without a word to her.
Fast forwards to the present. Willow is trying to lease a building to start up her new business. She has a meeting set up with an “anonymous owner of a building she is dying to get her hands on. If she can get this building she is sure her business would blossom. At the meeting with the owner she is dumbfounded when none other then Nick walks in. At first she is unsure of why he is here but soon realizes that HE is the said “anonymous owner of the building she has been dreaming about!!! The rest of the story is a cute cat and mouse game between the two.
They clearly still have very strong feelings for each other but Willow is set on not having her heart broken again by him. So she fights tooth and nail not to have feelings for him and Nick is doing everything in his power to make her remember how good they were together. Of course there has to be a twist as to why Nick left so abruptly all those years ago and that ends up being a heartbreak for Willow. Will these two find their way back to each other? Is there anything left to rekindle…We shall see This was a cute love story book and the only thing I would have loved to see was a little bit more insight of their lives together during that “hot summer together.

Willow's the stereotypical poor little rich girl. Her daddy's a powerful entertainment lawyer and her mommy's long gone to Europe. Willow's desperate to make it on her own--and is finally finding success as a specialty caterer. All she needs is a great property to kick her business plans into fast-forward. Right now, it's all about her career, and not at all about her love life, which pretty much sucks since she was royally dissed by Nick Hamilton six years ago.

Reunited by their mutual friends, Nick Hamilton is finally in finally in position to reclaim the girl he let go--at her father's strong request [read: blackmail]. He may have moved on in body, but never in spirit and Fate seems to have aligned their stars. He owns the VERY property Willow wants to lease. And he's willing to rent it at a discount, if she'll agree to 10 dates--with him.

The negotiations are fierce, and in the end they settle on 8 dates, but the die is cast. These two are gas and blowtorch. When they aren't fighting, they're naked. Okay, slight exaggeration. But seriously, there's plenty of naked times...

Still, Willow can't fully trust Nick, he's surely going to abandon her--again--just like everybody else has. As steadfast as Nick tries to be, he's put-off by her constant reticence. The break-up-to-make-up isn't long and the HEA is as believable as any other.

I am always eager to read a new Karen Erickson novel and Game for Trouble does not disappoint. This is an explosive romance, with lots of lust, passion and true love. The main female character, Willow Cavanaugh, is successfully succeeding in the business world without her wealthy father's offers of investment. She loves her work, but sometimes uses it as a means to escape the one man that has rocked her world for years, football superstar Nick Hamilton. Willow was devastated after their short love affair ended, and now that Nick is back in her life, is unsure if she can trust him with her heart. She is ready for forever with him, but there are many barriers preventing her from being his.

Nick's football career is flourishing and his team is on the verge of making it to the Superbowl. He is very popular with all the fans and women especially. However, he only wants Willow for his one and always. She challenges him and he finds her spunkiness endearing. He tries every trick in the book to have her in his life permanently, and luckily the truth saves the day.

This is a hot, sexy, exciting read. The characters are likeable and the book flows at a nice pace from start to finish.

The reason I couldn't rate this book higher.......Willow

Willow - Annoying ridiculous girl.

I am not going to trash the book because it was somewhat enjoyable. I love how determined Nick was in order to get Willow back. I love the cute nickname he gave her (Will) but she just ruined this book for me.

The 180 she did on the first date was just crazy and confusing.......maybe she suffers from multiple personalities. Plus, she bitches at her father for sending customers her way?? WTH!!

I would have really liked this much better with another female lead.

This book is awesome......Nick & Willow are great. They are thrown together 6 yrs after a bad break up because he owns a building she wants to lease. He blackmails her with the building to go out on dates with him hoping that he can get her to like him again. Football jock & cotton candy what more do I have to say....HOT!!!!! Karen Erickson did it again the same as she did with Jared & Sheridan in Game for Marriage. Love it, will be a reread. Hoping there's another one coming.
