Dare Me Christmas Duo #1

Mistletoe Kisses

Rate this book
It’s the most wonderful time of the year…until you get laid off.

The fastest way to trigger my anxiety is losing my job at the holidays. Fortunately, I can always count on my platonic bestie to keep me grounded. Except our commiseration drinks lead to planning pre-Christmas vacays for each other, so instead of grounding me, my bestie sends me flying to Dahlia Springs, Oregon.

Did I mention we each have to complete a dare? Mine is to meet the side of my family who has no idea I exist.

On my first day in town, a hot sauce mishap gets my chestnuts roasting like they’re in an open fire. But Lucas, my server in shining armor, comes to my NSFW rescue. And instead of just handing me my bill and wishing me a happy holidays, he becomes my jingle bell rock while I try to work up the courage to tell my family who I really am.

Soon my gratitude turns into deeper feelings for Lucas, and I don’t want to imagine facing the new year without him.

But I have a life back home, and it would take a Christmas miracle to let me stay in Dahlia Springs.

Or maybe it would just take a dare.

Mistletoe Kisses is a low angst M/M romance full of small-town holiday cheer with a vacation romance, opposites attract, and forced proximity. It’s half of the Dare Me Christmas Duo, but each book is a standalone romance. If you’ve read other books in Lee’s Dahlia Springs universe, like 24 Dares of Christmas, you’ll recognize some beloved characters.

I liked Keaton and Riggs' story just a little bit more than this one. Their relationship felt more dynamic, and I'm a sucker for twink/bear pairings.

Lucas and Arlo's relationship is quieter, not as intense, but no less romantic.

Arlo struggles with anxiety to the point of panic attacks, and besides Keaton, Lucas is the only one who really listens and understands.

Lucas is an easygoing dude who loves the small town where he was raised. He's happy being a server at a brewery and can't resist chatting up the cute, awkward redhead seated in his section.

Cue embarrassing hot sauce incident. I cringed and laughed simultaneously. Poor Arlo!

I found the storyline of why Keaton sends Arlo to Oregon quite compelling. I'm so happy Arlo's family was loving and accepting.

The epilogue is all the good things.

This duet can be read in any order. There are teasers but no spoilers in either book. Both stories are low angst, with complex MCs and plenty of Christmas joy.

I'm really enjoying Lee Blair's books and will be reading her Tap That series next.

4.5 ⭐️

Recently laid off, Arlo and his best friend and roommate Keaton get drunk and decide to book each other vacations. The caveat? Each of them must complete a dare while away.

Sent off to Dahlia Springs, Oregon, Arlo gets to soak up all the festive holiday fun the town is known for, but must meet his father’s side of the family that has no idea he exists.

Things don’t get off to the best start—his B&B is the stuff made of nightmares and he may or may not have gotten hot sauce in places no one should ever get hot sauce in, but the spicy mishap brings Lucas into his life.

Soon the pair hit it off and spend all of their free time together. Lucas makes Arlo feel safe and comfortable in a way that no one but Keaton has, and he blurts out his real reason for coming to town.

Arlo falls in love with not only Lucas but Dahlia Springs, and to be completely honest I did too. This was such a cute and cozy book, but also had me so emotional too! Lucas and Arlo are super adorable and must be protected at all costs.

I was most comfortable fading into the background, but Lucas made me want to stick my toe into the spotlight.

Arlo is about two seconds from an anxiety-induced spiral when he and his best friend/roommate are laid off from their jobs right before Christmas. Rather than letting that happen, they use the time off to plan a vacation for the other one. This is how he finds himself on a plane to Dahlia Springs, Oregon for some R&R. He’s also been dared to introduce himself to the side of his family who doesn’t even know he exists.

With the dare hanging over his head, Arlo's keeping a tenuous grasp on his anxiety. On his first day in town, an unfortunate mishap with some hot sauce has his handsome server, Lucas, coming to his rescue. Throughout his week in town, Lucas becomes an invaluable support for Arlo. He understands him like not many people do and helps Arlo find the courage to come clean with his newfound family members. It may be fast but the bond between Lucas and Arlo comes naturally. As the end of his vacation approaches, Arlo isn’t sure how he’ll be able to leave and give up the man he’s quickly falling for.

I never expected to meet Arlo, but now it was hard to imagine my life without him. How could that happen so quickly?

Sometimes you pick up a book and vibe with a character right from the start and you know that you’re going to love it. That was me with Arlo. He was anxious, introverted, and shy and I saw so much of myself in him. I could appreciate his hesitancy and fears about stepping outside his comfort zone because I’ve been in his shoes plenty of times. As an introverted person, finding people who know when to push you and know when to let you retreat is invaluable. Arlo had that in Keaton, his best friend, and couldn’t believe his luck to find that again when he met Lucas.

From the get-go, Lucas recognized Arlo’s anxiety and was so kind and patient with him. And it made my little introverted heart sing at how wonderful he was for Arlo. He wanted Arlo to thrive in Dahlia Springs, even if he might not be staying long-term, and he walked that line of being supportive while also gently nudging Arlo to see what could lie beyond his comfort zone so perfectly.

Lucas came across as self-assured and confident but he had some insecurities plaguing him too and I loved seeing Arlo return the favor of supporting him whenever he needed it. These two were perfect for one another. This story is very low angst but the longing from both of them for their budding relationship to not have an expiration date will tug at your heartstrings.

In addition to watching Lucas and Arlo falling in love, we also go to see Arlo falling in love with the town and his new family members. I loved seeing him blossom in this town and build a relationship with his family, even as he was still working up the courage to tell them who he was. It was all so sweet and brought tears to my eyes a few times.

So many things about this story just worked perfectly for me! The rest of the Dahlia Springs books were already on my TBR but I’m going to be moving them up the list. For now, I will go read Keaton’s story to see what he got up to on the trip Arlo sent him on - I can’t wait!

The life I wanted was so close. A family I could see regularly. A bookstore I loved and could spend time in. A town that had welcomed me as one of its own. A man I was falling in love with.
But was I brave enough to make it happen?

I've been reading too many small town Christmas romances lately, because I kept getting this one mixed up with the OTHER on set at a bookshop in a small town that goes all our for Christmas, haha.

I really loved Arlo, but as a fellow anxiety-riddled hot mess of a human, I tend to love characters I can relate to! ;) His meet-cute with Lucas (while excruciating!) is a great way to show what an AWESOME human being Lucas is. I just love them together, they've got incredible chemistry. 5 stars for Lucas being a SHINING example of how to actually support a loved one with anxiety or other mental health issues. He never pushes or blames Arlo, just shows steadfast support, a listening ear, and understanding. Swoon. I'd like a Lucas, please!

While this is a sweet and fluffy Christmas romance, there are some heavier themes, as Arlo is in town on a dare to finally meet his bio-dad's family. He also struggles with some pretty heavy anxiety - be sure to read the content warnings in the front matter.

This is the first book in the Dare Me Christmas Duo. It can be read as a standalone, and take place at the same time as book two, Christmas Wishes. It's also a follow up to one of Lee Blair's earlier books, 24 Dares of Christmas, as well as being set in her Dahlia Springs universe (which I think the Tap That Brewery are part of, but I haven't read them yet so don't quote me on that!) There are some fun cameos in this book for folks who've read these other books, as former main characters make some cameos and appearances as side characters.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are unbiased and my own.

4.5 stars.

I love the concept of this duet. Arlo & Keaton are best friends who plan Christmas vacations for one another with the added fun of having to complete a dare while they are away. Arlo is sent to Dahlia Springs, Oregon and Keaton is sent to Juniper Ridge, Arizona.

This first book is Arlo's story. I love Arlo and his introverted, shy, anxious self. Lucas was the absolute perfect match for him. Lucas treating Arlo with such patience and kindness made my heart so happy. Also, their meet ugly (kind of) had me laughing so hard! Poor Arlo! I loved the added aspect of Arlo trying to get to know his real family and working up the courage to let them know who he was. This was just the perfect holiday read. Great characters, a great setting, great storytelling, and very sweet moments mixed in with the spicy ones. I just loved it! I have said this before but I would love to live in Dahlia Springs.

He pressed his finger under my chin and gently tilted my head up. “I do meet a lot of people, but you are special. I’m so glad you came into my restaurant and got hot sauce on your dick.

Love. We looked like we were falling in love. God, I wanted that with Arlo. I truly did. It was easy to picture us happily traipsing along the path headed in that direction. I wanted this to be one of many dates we enjoyed as we developed deep and lasting feelings for each other. I never expected to meet Arlo, but now it was hard to imagine my life without him. How could that happen so quickly?
When I looked at Arlo, he watched me with such longing that it took my breath away. Maybe he wanted that with me too.

This is one of the absolute sweetest, most heartwarming holiday romances I’ve read this year! The entire premise is super cute when best friends Arlo and Keaton find themselves unexpectedly laid off before the holidays, they decide to make the most of it. Each plans an adventure for the other with one catch - they have to complete a dare. Mistletoe Kisses chronicles Arlo’s dare to finally meet the family who has no idea he exists.

From the moment Arlo arrives in Dahlia Springs, things are a bit serendipitous. Sure, there’s the nightmarish dollhouse B&B, but there’s also a spicy meet-cute with the kind, patient Lucas, a chance for new experiences, and opportunities which bring a clarity Arlo wasn’t anticipating.

I adored both Arlo and Lucas and thoroughly enjoyed their whirlwind holiday romance. While it happens quickly, it’s not quite instalove despite their immediate attraction. I enjoyed the steady pace Blair sets as they get to know each other, building a connection that’s real and genuine. I never once felt as if they were falling faster than was believable.

Lee Blair is a new-to-me author, and I’ll definitely be checking out the rest of the Dahlia Springs universe. This small town romance is fun, low angst, and easy to read with just the right balance of humor and emotion. The romance is sweet without being OTT, and I fell in love right along with Arlo and Lucas. Now I really need to know what happened on Keaton’s own snowy vacay…can’t wait for part two of this duet!

This is another enjoyable and sweet story set in the Dahlia shpring universe. I discovered this world last year with another Christmas themed book (24 Dares of Christmas) and every book I have read since enhances the world and the characters.

Arlo and Lucas make an amazing couple. From their meeting to their HEA, they are a sweet couple. I love seeing characters from previous books and I love that their is another book that follows Arlo's best friend Keaton.

I highly recommend this if you want a sweet and charming Christmas read and recommend reading the rest of the series.

This story is full of Christmas magic and lots of swoon worthy moments that make this book almost like a Hallmark movie. Arlo comes to Dahlia Springs to meet a family that doesn’t even know he exists. Lucas is the guy who makes him feel welcome and helps him work through his feelings about said family. They have some instant chemistry. This was all about hope and finding where you belong. Really a sweet story and worth a read. I can’t wait to see what happens to Arlo’s friend Keaton.

Lee Blair Christmas books are becoming one of my favourite things to look forward to. Last year's 24 Dares of Christmas brought fun and love to the festive season and now it's happening again, this time for Arlo and Lucas.
My heart went out to Arlo as I've been in his shoes regarding meeting a family you've never met and it's one of the most nerve wracking things but, with Lucas there, nerves are something that can be overcome, though slowly. He is dealing with the loss of his job and housing problems, both of which have his anxiety in overdrive. Being sent by his best friend to Dahlia Springs is both the best and worst thing for Arlo. Lucas turns out to be the best, an instant draw between them and connection that develops quickly in the short space of time that Arlo is supposed to be in town. Lucas seems to instantly understand Arlo's anxiety and what he needs, wants to take care of him and supports him through what is happening.
It's great being back in Dahlia Springs over Christmas as they have a wonderful festival going on that has many events, bringing out the crowds and characters met in the Dahlia Springs series. It's also so great to meet and get to know Arlo's family. It's like a piece of him was waiting there all along and he just fits with everything about the people and the town.
Definitely a recommended low angst festive romance that is full of happy people, creepy dolls and small town charm.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Firstly, let me say I got this book from gay romance reviews, and this is me leaving my honest review.
What a fantastic read. I’ve Gotta say I got totally lost in this book and just could not put it down. The main characters, Lucas and Arlo are total sweetheart.
Arlo has just lost his job. His roommate has just lost his job. Thankfully they got a good payout, but it was still close to Christmas and jobs were hard to find. So Arlo and Keaton decide the best thing to do is go drinking. These two have been the best of friends and totally rely on one another. So in a drunken state they decided that they should book the other a vacation. They won’t find out until the day and there was also a dare they had to carry out while on vacation.
Arlo find themselves in Oregon Dahlia Springs and he knows why his best friend has sent him here, but when he gets to the B&B and finds out it is a doll sanctuary. It is creepy as hell. But Keaton has a good heart and he has sent he here so he can make contact with his biological family. You see his mother didn’t tell him much about his father, but he found some letters and work things out. He knew his father was dead, but he still has uncles cousins and even a Grandma to get to know.
Arlo decides he can’t stay in this creepy room, surrounded by dolls so goes to get something to eat, and this is where he meets the gorgeous Lucas. He’s serving and the attraction between these two is instant. When he asked Lucas to recommend something, he recommends the spicy ribs, but the only problem with that is if you don’t wash your hands before you go to the toilet, a gentleman could be in a lot of pain. And this is what happens to Arlo. Thankfully Lucas comes to the rescue, and this is the start of their friendship that leads to so much more.
That’s all I’m telling you because this is a heartwarming book and there is something really special about this book. I don’t know if it’s because it happens around the Christmas period and that festive feeling is in our hearts, but this book just left me with the biggest smile on my face . Lucas and Arlo are amazing so well matched. They help one another to overcome something and are there to support one another. Obviously the passion is off the charts. These two just make everything magical. A brilliant read

What an awesome follow up to 24 Dares of Christmas written last year by Lee Blair! I absolutely loved 24 Dares and was able to get a signed copy! I was beyond thrilled when Lee wrote a follow up story which was just as good and will definitely be put in my yearly Christmas read!!! The added bonus is there will be another follow up story to this one before Christmas!!!! Nothing beats that! This story is a spin-off from the Tap That Brewery series so it’s a good idea to read the books in that series and 24 Dares so you’ll know the side characters. On a side note, I totally can relate to Arlo! Being from New Mexico who handles extra hot green chile and learning my lesson not to touch my eyes or groin after handling the green chile! Read to find out what I mean by that!!!! Evil Grin!!!! This one will get more than the allocated 5 stars reading from me!!!

The story starts with Arlo and his bestie, Keaton who were let go of the publishing company they worked for before Christmas. They got their severance checks and both decided to treat each others by sending each others to a location on a dare! Keaton (who will get his story in the next one) sent Arlo to Dahlia Springs on a dare. The reason for this trip is because Arlo found out where his biological father and family were but Arlo kept putting off the visit so Keaton dared Arlo to fly there and meet his biological family for real! Arlo, being an introvert totally was in a tizzy about it. On that first evening in Dahlia Springs, Arlo went to a restaurant and happened to handle something spicy. That was the chain of events where he met this adorable hot waiter named Lucas. Lucas managed to save him from a major catastrophe. I’ll be a meanie and stop right here and have you pick up the book to read to find out what happened in addition to whether Arlo was able to summon some courage and meet his biological family. Happy reading!!!!

This is so cute! I am absolutely in love with these two. Arlo and his best friend and roommate, Keaton, were just laid off from their publishing house jobs. After drowning their sorrows in tequila, they decide to send each other on surprise vacations along with a dare to complete. Keaton sends Arlo to Dahlia Springs, which just so happens to be where his long-lost family lives. It turns out Arlo was the product of a one-night stand and he never met his father. Unfortunately, his father passed away, but his unknowing family is still around.

Arlo is an introvert that suffers with anxiety, especially among strangers. His first night in town, he enjoys dinner at a restaurant where Lucas works as his super cute server. Lucas ends up saving Arlo from a lot of embarrassment when he comes to his aid. Apparently, if you have ghost pepper hot sauce on your fingers, you should wash your hands BEFORE going to the bathroom. Ouch! A quick friendship blossoms between Lucas and Arlo, but it's clear they both want more. Lucas is perceptive and he's able to put Arlo at ease, something only Keaton can usually do.

These two take a while to get together, but when they finally do it's incredibly romantic. These two are steamy together and their connection is so strong! They don't get too wild, but we get all the juicy details.

There are some laughs along the way as these two interact with the small town during the festival season. But, it turns out Lucas has a pretty embarrassing history he's trying to get over. Your eyes may water a bit as Arlo gets closer to his family trying to gather the courage to tell them the truth.

This story is so full of adorable romance. These two complement each other so well! I especially love that Arlo doesn't have to change his introvert ways to be with Lucas. They're the sweetest!!

I really enjoyed Lee’s holiday novel last year so I snapped up Mistletoe Kisses with glee. I adored that she continued the dare premise and this time, you get two stories one from each roommate's POV. We return to Dahlia Springs too! Arlo and Lucas are both super cute characters that are easy to adore. They are kind hearted and sweet which makes their love story extra adorable. I did enjoy the conflict Arlo has after he discovers that the father he never knew has family. But even with this storyline, Mistletoe Kisses is very low angst. It is a fun, sweet, and humorous story that is perfect for the holidays.

When Arlo and his roommate both get laid off right before the holidays, it would have been easy for Arlo to sink into an anxiety spiral. But after some tequila ok a lot of tequila, he and his roommate concoct a plan. A dare if you will. They book the other a secret vacation and give each other a dare. For Arlo’s part, he must go to Dahlia Springs and meet his father’s family, the father he never knew, who have no idea Arlo exists. After an unfortunate incident eating out, he is rescued by Lucas. Lucas is smitten by the cute redhead and finds himself being the ally Arlo didn’t know he needed. The chemistry between them simmers and feelings begin to grow. With his week coming to an end, Arlo plans to return home unless he finds a reason to stay.

I adored this slow burn and very sweet story. It’s a perfect cozy read for the holiday season and was just what I wanted. It has holiday magic and cheer, family, small town busybodies, and lots of things to make you smile. The banter will make you laugh and the ridiculous inn will have you cringing and shaking your head. Arlo and Lucas were adorable together and this story has the perfect balance of sweet, steam, and heart. After finishing, I can’t wait to dive into Keaton’s story too.

Such a heartwarming romance

I love Dahlia Springs. All the couples in the Tap That Brewery series are just so sweet, and the friendship between the four brewers underpins some lovely romances, my favourite so far being Tyler's story (Relief Pitcher) but I expect Dom to give him a run for his money soon. There's also a novella starring Mikey, the coffee shop owner who appears here, but I digress...
Arlo is a sweet man, unassuming and rather overlooked or put upon by almost everyone in his life, except his wonderful best friend, Keaton, whose book Christmas Wishes is out soon. Arlo goes to Dahlia Springs, to seek out his family but before he does that, he meets Lucas in a restaurant and finds out just how kind and thoughtful Lucas is in the most excruciating of circumstances for poor Arlo. Both men feel an instant attraction but know that there is a time limit on whatever is happening between them as Arlo is only in town for a week.
Arlo and Lucas are a perfect match, soulmates even. Lucas supported Arlo through all his anxiety, helping him to overcome his fears, just being there for him. Arlo was everything Lucas didn't know he was missing in his life, and I loved their gentle romance playing out against the backdrop of Dahlia Springs' festivities and Arlo finding a new life filled with people he quickly grew to love.
24 Dares of Christmas is a standalone set in Dahlia Springs, starring Warren, Lucas' brother, chronicling how he met his boyfriend Reed. Both of them appear in this book, obviously, and it was lovely to see them again. I adored their Advent-y romance, and I adored this one too.

I received a free copy. This review is submitted voluntarily.

Arlo and his roommate Keaton are laid off by their employer. This is particularly hard on Arlo as he suffers from a lack of confidence and panic attacks. They decide to organize holidays for each other, and Keaton sends Arlo to Dahlia Springs with a dare to meet the family of the father he’s never known (he was the result of a one-night stand). He ends up in a scary B&B filled with dolls. On his first night, he goes to supper at Inkwell Bistro where he meets Lucas, a waiter. Arlo suffers an unfortunate incident from which Lucas bails him out. Arlo ends up going to the bookstore Tome Raider, run by his uncle Ron. The bookstore is in financial trouble, but Arlo suggests a few things to boost sales, earning him praise from his uncle and his aunt. Meanwhile, Arlo and Lucas are smitten with each other. On the eve of his return home, his landlord advises him in a call that the apartment has been damaged by flooding, causing him to stay an extra week. They go through minor difficulties on their way to a happy ending.

In typical fashion for this trope, the book is low on angst except for Arlo’s struggles with his introvert nature. But Lucas is great at relieving his tension, so the episodes don’t last much. The two main characters are both sweet and well-suited to small town living. As well, they are credible. The plot develops in a straight line and is easily followed. The secondary characters are all sweet and are important to plot development.

I have no hesitation recommending this book.

Arlo has crippling social anxiety and just lost his job. Over a bottle of tequila, he and his best friend, Keaton, decide to give each other a surprise vacation. Arlo decides to send Keaton to Flagstaff, Arizona, because he loves the sun. Keaton sends Arlo to Dahlia Springs, Oregon. It's the home of his father's family, relatives who he's never met and who don't know that his father had a child.
Social anxiety and introducing yourself to unknown family are pretty serious and pretty heavy subjects. Yet Lee Blair's book is very sweet and quite lighthearted. Yes, there's some angst. Arlo second and third guesses every move. When Dahlia Spring native, Lucas shows interest in him, he's unsure. He meets his uncle, aunt and grandmother but his words fail him and he's incapable of telling them who is is.
With Lucas' patience and Keaton's long distance support, Arlo builds relationships with his relatives and other town folk.
This is somewhat of a slow burning romance. The intimacy is more sweet than smokingly sexy. The author dedicates most of the book to character development and great worldbuilding. It's a sweet, old-fashioned romance set in a wonderful small town.
This series is set in the same world, the same town as Blair's Tap that Brewery series. Which I am now going to have to read! Next up is Keaton's story. About his vacation in not-desert Flagstaff. Looking forward to it.
I received an advance copy of this book and this is my review.

A sweet and wonderful story!

This book is awesome! The story of Arlo and Lucas is fun, sassy and filled with love, loss and so much more and is an absolute must read! Arlo finds himself in Dahlia Springs on a surprise vacation from his best friend after they both lose their jobs. The vacation comes with a catch - a dare for Arlo to connect with his father’s family that don’t know Arlo exists. His adventure will start with a hot sauce fiasco that is what brings him close to Lucas. I love how the two find so much in common with each other as well as how they compliment each other and I love how the friendship develops as the story unfolds. Lucas becomes the rock Arlo’s best friend, Keaton, usually is and it’s sweet how it causes Arlo to come out of his shell a bit. It is Lucas who stands behind Arlo cheering him on to tell his father’s family but doesn’t push him. The secret will come out eventually and it will be so much better than Arlo ever thought it could be. Life will give Arlo a push to stay in the small town that seems so much like home after such a very short time and it’s wonderful to see how their story ends!

I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

I Love the town of Dahlia Springs and everyone in it, so I was super excited for this one, especially since one of our MCs is Warren’s brother Lucas, whom we first met in Warren and Reed’s book 24 Dares of Christmas. (If you haven’t read this, you should. It’s awesome).

Arlo and his bestie get laid off and after a night of drinking, they decide to send each other on a vacation where each has to complete a dare.
Arlo is sent to Dahlia Springs to finally meet his late Father’s family.

Arlo first meets Lucas when he’s his server at the Cafe (that he escapes to from the Doll B&B of nightmares) where he has a bit of an embarrassing mishap. (Poor Arlo, I mean.. ouch). Arlo suffers from anxiety, and from the very beginning Lucas seems to get him and is so supportive of him, it’s like he’s the Arlo whisperer.

As these two guys get to know (and love) each other, Arlo is finally able to meet his family, comes out of his shell, and along the way finds his new purpose. Lucas is finally able to overcome an old fear with Arlo’s help. They were absolutely smitten with each other from the beginning and it was so lovely how they supported and encouraged each other and how Lucas was able to make Arlo feel safe and comfortable like only his bestie could before.

This is a charming, low-angst Holiday novel and, honestly, you should seriously go and read it right now! ♥️

This book makes me want to drink hot cocoa while I pack my bags to move to Dahlia Springs. I adore Lee Blair’s small town that has been the basis for so many amazing books. Her writing style is delightfully warm and funny and she’s great at writing best friends.

This Christmas she gives us two books following two best friends Arlo and Keaton who send each other on trips. Keaton sends Arlo to Dahlia Springs where he has family he’s never met. The family of the father he never knew.

He meets Lucas when he arrives in town, in what can only be described as the world's most awkward meet-cute! But Lucas is a gem and absolutely perfect our sweet and anxious Arlo.

Except a week isn’t enough, in fact, the whole of the Christmas season isn’t enough.

These two are the absolute cutest. I adore the way Lucas became Arlo’s safe person and they were just so loving and accepting of each other's dreams.

PS. Lucas family is an absolute delight.

Arlo and Keaton are laid off the Monday after Thanksgiving. Time for tequila shots and bad decisions. Arlo learned the name of his birth father a year ago. He has done enough internet stalking to find the family in tiny Dahlia Springs. What he hasn't had is the nerve to contact them, they don't know he exists. Making that bad decision, Keaton proposes they plan a one-week vacation for the other with a dare thrown in. Arlo's vacation is to Dahlia Springs with a dare to meet his extended family.
Arlo's vacation is off to a dubious beginning. From checking into the B&B of horrors, the Dollia Springs B&B, to the encounter with the ghost pepper barbecued ribs things can only go up. The one bright spot is the luscious server, Lucas. Lucas is the sweetest man on the planet. He is able to calm Arlo's anxiety and gently encourage him to introduce himself to his family at his own pace.
As with all of Lee's books I learned something new, a novel use for yogurt. Got to reconnect with all our old friends in Dahlia Springs and even a mini trip to the storm-tossed beaches of the Oregon coast.

Arlo has nearly debilitating anxiety and that causes him no end of problems.
Thankfully he has his best friend and roommate Keaton to support him.
Losing their jobs right at the holidays is a major blow to them both.
A drunken night dare has them planning a trip for the other with the caveat that each must compete a dare set by the other.
Keaton sends Arlo to Dahlia Springs to finally meet his father's family.
Arlo sends Keaton to Arizona to finally set up a beauty guru business.
Arlo has a very embarrassing situation occur at a restaurant where he meet Lucas who very kindly helps him.
A friendship begins and suddenly turns into a whirlwind romance.
I loved how supportive and protective Lucas was of Arlo.
That bolster in turn gave Arlo the confidence to slowly step out of his comfort zone and begin living his life with purpose.
I loved how Arlo was able to help and finally be appreciated for his business skills at Tome Raiders ( great name for a bookstore)
and also connect with his family.
Arlo was also able to help Lucas conquer a fear of his own.
I'm absolutely loving this world and on my way to devour more of the stories in it.

Love the story of Arlo and Lucas. Love that this is book one of two. Love even more that this book was around the holiday season.

Arlo and his best friend, Keaton, after getting laid off of work and drinking to make themselves feel better, decided to send each other on surprise vacation out of state with a mission to complete while they are at their designated destinations.

Book 1 is Arlo's story. Settling in Dahlia Springs, Oregon, his mission is to meet the family he never knew. However, his high anxiety prevents him from taking the leap to meet them, let alone tell them who he is when he finally does. That's where Lucas comes in. Through a mishap at the restaurant Lucas works at, Arlo and Lucas become very good friends from day 1. Only, the chemistry is off the chart between the two, and staying just friends is not really an option. 1Time is not on their side, as Arlo's vacation is coming to an end quickly.

This story was super sweet. Each character learned to enjoy every moment together, and I enjoyed every moment getting to know them. Can't wait for for the next book, Keaton's story, also.

I received a copy of this book from GRR and this is my honest review.

Lee blair book one of two.
Arlo a book lover with anxiety, laid off from his job before Christmas. He and his best friend, Keaton, book each other surprise vacations, with a dare to completed by the end of vacation. Arlo is off to Dahlia Springs. His dare is to meet the family of the father he never knew.
Arlo is booked at the infamous Dollia Springs B&B, all the more reason to explore town! Lucas is a vivacious server and Dahlia Springs local (brother of Warren from 24 Dares of Christmas). Lucas and Arlo have a meet cute that is spicy in entirely the wrong way!
I love how Arlo and Lucas's accept, like and eventually love each other for exactly who they are. They are both so supportive of each other. I also enjoy a trip to Dahlia Springs, my favourite small town location. A seasonal book full of sweetness, joy, depth of character and relationship development. Arlo sends off Keaton off to Arizona for his winter sun vacation, turns out Arizona gets snow. We get to see Keaton get his happily ever after in Christmas Wishes, I can't wait.

I love Lee Blair's Daliah Spring world and a Christmas story - that's a double winner for me.

The idea of two friends sending each other to a mystery vacation is a really good one. Obviously Arlo's friend had a deeper meaning to his chosen location - to get Arlo to meet the family he only recently discovered.

A mishap at the first dinner brings a meet-cute of a new dimenision and Lucas enters Arlos' vacation. I love how they click and start becoming friends. Lucas is great at helping Arlo keeping control of his anxiety without smoothering him or taken over.

There is a lot for Arlo to learn about himself in this book and what he wants from life. With Lucas' support he is gaining confidence. But also Lucas is discovering that having someone in this corner means he can look at things which happened in the past in a different light and start again.
These two are seriously cute together.

While the brewery gang is only shown at the sideline here, you still have the great feeling Daliah Spring brings up.

I can't wait for the companion book.

My first Lee Blair book. It is definitely part of a universe, and generally the book is wholesome, really low-angst. Aside from Arlo's dare to admit his identity to his dad's family, there's also a side plot on Lucas's struggles about being on stage. For the romance, there's hurt/comfort, and Arlo and Lucas's relationship is sweet and honestly quite communicative. The romance doesn't happen too fast either, it progresses in a fairly steady and realistic pace. The supportive family members, queer-friendly townspeople and the celebratory, Christmassy setting make for an overall comforting and cheery setting. The book isn't super steamy too.

But many parts of the book was composed of mundane daily back-and-forths, and ngl I got slightly bored and skimmed through some of the latter half of the book. A few scenes like dates(since Arlo and Lucas had like 3-4 dates in detail in the book) can really just be cut down in number.

I might check out the other books in the universe, idrk.

My thanks to GRR and the author for providing an ARC.

A review.

Lee Blair is a new-to-me author and the premise of this story, as well as the promise of low angst, rom com type Christmas fun, had me jumping in. The premise of this story is cute, even though it requires a suspension of disbelief. I’ve not read any of the other Dahlia Springs books, and this story does pretty well to stand on its own, though it’s clear that many of the other characters mentioned have their own stories in that series as well. This book is part of a duology, with Keaton getting his own vacation and dare to complete in another book.

The dialogue is a bit sappy at times, but it works for the holiday feel of the book. I enjoyed both the MCs, even if all the plot points didn’t work for me, and I liked them together. If you’re looking for a sweet, low-angst, holiday read, then this one might be for you.

Read Kris review in its entirety .

SWEET HOMELY LOVE!

I always enjoy reading about the Dahlia Springs universe by this author and this one does not disappoint!

This is Warren from 24 Dares for Christmas’s younger brother Lucas’s journey to finding his ever after.

Arlo and his best friend Keaton end up sending each other on vacation with a dare to complete- Arlo to Dahlia Springs- to meet his biological father’s family but Dahlia Springs was more than he ever imagined as he meets Lucas- his other person

This is their sweet, poignant story about finding their perfect person who knows exactly how to calm, cherish and build confidence while finding their extended and new found family!

A beautiful sweet Christmas story with lots of mistletoe kisses and cuddles and steamy shenanigans!

I look forward to Keaton and his man with lots of snow when he completes his dare.

I voluntarily received an ARC from GRR for an honest non biased review.

Lucas and Arlo ❤️

4 Stars ⭐️

So swoony! I absolutely adored this story, it was sweet, fun and also had some heat. The first meeting between these two pretty much ends with some extreme heat, not the sexy kind. A situation which would normally leave Arlo mortified and panic stricken turns into a very sweet and supportive friendship that turns into so much more. These two couldn't have been more perfect for each other. The relationship build was extremely endearing and the usual Dalia Springs small town vibe was front and center with a strong sense of finding your place, belonging and family. The ending was the perfect cherry on top of this book. Also, Having read the previous adjacent book, It was bonus to have visits from characters that I was already familiar with and get a glimpse into their future. I would definitely recommend this super sweet holiday read.
