4.5 Stars In the Arms of a Stranger is romantic suspense at its finest. The writing is tightly paced keeping you on the edge of your seat, and eagerly clicking through the pages. I was glued to my Kindle for several hours straight loving every minute! Add in a romance with just the right amount of tension and build-up and I was a happy girl!
Abby Price is left hungering for answers after her husband’s murder. She’s hurt by the secrets Wade kept from her about his work and his life, and now she’s being hounded by his CIA boss who implies he died while up to no good. Abby wants to clear his name so her young son Cole can remember his father with pride. This is when JP Blackmon, a dark and mysterious (and yes, handsome!) stranger tumbles into her life. Will she finally get the answers she’s been looking for?
JP has been on the run for the last year, framed by someone unknown after a mission gone wrong. He’s shocked to find out Wade Price, his CIA partner was killed. Now the only key to clearing his name is Wade’s widow, Abby. She wants answers too, but he’s afraid to hurt her further with the truth. And using Abby sets her up as a target for the dangerous men that are after him. Even worse is the attraction he feels for Abby which couldn’t come at a more inconvenient time.
The mystery behind Wade’s death and JP’s frame-up was engrossing and kept me hooked trying to figure out what would happen next. I had my suspicions at who was behind it, and that’s an important component to writing a good mystery: making the reader feel part of the solving by giving little hints here and there. Twists and action packed turns kept the tension high, making this an addictive read.
Abby was a heroine anyone would admire. Not a whiny or illogical bone in her body. She was a good mother, strong woman, and full of determination. My heart went out to Abby for the betrayal she felt knowing Wade kept so many things hidden. It was nice that she had JP to lean on! *wink, wink* I wouldn’t mind leaning on those strong arms myself. You did see the cover, right? O_O JP was capable, caring, and maybe a little overprotective. Just what want in my male heroes! He was very focused. It was the way he did everything. One hundred percent. And when he brought all that male intensity to bear on her, she was helpless to resist.
The intensity of the situation just lends itself to a juicy romance. The simmering attraction was right at the surface for Abby and JP. Heated glances, and stolen kisses amp up the anticipation making the payoff oh-so-sweet when these two finally give in! This was more than just physical attraction, though, with both yearning for more of a connection: He’d never wanted anything like he wanted this woman. What was laughable was that it wasn’t about wanting sex. He’d had sex before without any deeper feelings. This was different. No, he wanted what Abby promised. Home. Hearth. Family. Stability.
*sigh*
Romantic suspense is one of my all time favorite types of reads. I love the adrenaline rush that the danger, action and mystery bring. In the Arms of a Stranger checks all those boxes while delivering an intense and delicious romance as well! This was my first novel by Virginia Kelly, but it won’t be my last. There’s a novella in this series that I’m eager to get my hands on: Dancing in the Dark which centers on JP’s sister, Janey, getting a second chance at romance. A copy was provided by Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
Quick Summary CIA operative JP Blackmon is wounded, on the run and has finally made his way to his former partner's (Wade Price) home to confront him, to get him to clear his name. What he finds is his widow, Abby, who in the moment needs his help pretty desperately. She also wants answers that only he can provide so they, for now, have a tenuous partnership.
The mystery JP doesn't know if Wade set him up or was also a victim of a horrible treason perpetrated on both of them. Abby wants answers and doesn't know if she ever really knew her husband. As the search for JP intensifies, it's impossible to know who to trust and how to follow Wade's trail of clues. Abby's pretty sharp and isn't aware of what she may know that's helpful. JP is a highly trained operative who can take care of himself but can't solve this without her.
The romance You expect in this genre for things to heat up more quickly given the heightened state of excitement and adrenalin flow. JP and Abby are no exception and both really fight their attraction, he because his lifestyle is pretty problematic and she because he's virtually a stranger who hasn't earned her trust...yet. But, spending days on end together on constant alert seems to kill all of those concerns. Yes, it was a short time but these two really got to know each other. I liked how their relationship developed.
The bottom line The story was pretty well balance between the romance and suspense with a tiny nod to the love story. Abby's son was also very charming and added to the plot. The tension ebbed and flowed but when it was up, it got my blood boiling. It's a very good story with an exciting mystery and strong romance. I was able to figure out the villains early on but there were a hosts of surprises that kept things interesting. I'll be reading more by Kelly as she spins a good tale.
I received this book via ebook discovery to give an honest review.
So I didn't realize this book was number 2 in this series. Though it did seem to be considered a stand alone I did feel as though I was missing somethings. JP is going to clear his name yet he wonders about his buddy Wade and why he would frame him. Yet, what he uncovers is something far more. It seems that Wade is a person you could trust because he knew how to keep a secret as he kept his life from Abby very much under wraps. When JP and Abby come together to find the things that Wade kept secret we watch a relationship blooms between the two and though JP remember's Wade's rules he can't seem to stop himself from falling in love. Abby is a very strong willed woman who knew not to ask questions about her late husband's job yet all that will be thrown out the window when she will help JP.
I liked how these two characters really tried to fight the attraction they had to each other yet in the end it seems it didn't work. I did like this author's writing style and I will be checking out the first book to see if it has anything to do with this one.
An exciting, fast paced, romantic suspense, this book takes the reader on a roller coaster ride from the opening page right up to the end. JP knows that he has been betrayed and all indications point to the person he trusted most. Wanting answers leads him to Abby, his partner’s widow, who also wants answers. They are faced with the same questions and need to find the truth. However, that quest leads them into more danger than either anticipated. This story is well written with heart thumping suspense and an undeniable attraction between the hero and heroine. There is an excellent plot with clues that lead the unlikely pair across the country in their race to find the truth. Although this novel is part of a series, it is nevertheless a standalone and comes to a most satisfactory conclusion. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
Abby Price's husband worked for the government. She knew that, but she never had any idea what his life entailed until the day he died. His death is shrouded in suspicion. When his old partner JP Blackmon comes crashing into Abby's life she sees an opportunity to clear her husbands name and prove him the hero she knows he is.
The more Abby discovers about her husband the more she realizes she never knew him at all.
With every day the attraction between JP and Abby grows but how could she ever trust another man with all that was left unsaid in her marriage of 7 years.
This is a high velocity, government conspiracy black ops romance. The characters are running for their lives and its a race against the clock to uncover secrets from a man that didn't let any of his secrets slip...and if they don't they and the ones they love die. I love the black ops romance books, In the Arms of a Stranger was a sensational action packed, suspense filled, romance...a perfect read for me.

Ms Kelly has written an exciting romantic suspense about a black ops sniper trying to clear his name and his partner's wife. This was one I had a very hard time putting down. The characters drew me into their quest for the people who were framing her dead husband and his partner. The suspense built throughout the story, keeping me both worrying about what was coming and yet anxious to see the next development/revelation.
Ms Kelly is an author I'll be looking forward to reading again and again.
JP Blackmon was armed and dangerous. And was on the run from the government. JP and Wade Price had the same government jobs. Wade was JP's mentor. They trained together in the army. Trusted each other and were very loyal and dedicated to their jobs to each other and to their country. JP received massages from his sources and came back to where Wade had told him. His home where his wife, Abbey lived and his little boy, Cole. Abbey would know why JP came back and she would help him if needed. Because Abbey's husband Wade Price was dead now. And Abbey needed help too to put all the pieces together. This is a very suspenseful story that will keep you guessing what's going to happen next. Unbelievable engaging characters .A page turner from the first paragraph to the last page!! Romance, yes and A lot of twists and turns around every corner with deceit and lies. You will wonder who can be trusted? Fantastic read, loved it .My first book I read by Virginia Kelly. You are on my radar now. Thank You. I received this book for free from Ebook Discovery. I volunteered to review it and this is my honest review.
This sophomore effort of the series is just as slowly paced and full of intrigue as its predecessor. CIA Paramilitary Operator JP Blackmon is on the run from his former boss and believes his former partner betrayed him. It took 18 months but JP finally made it to his partner’s home and is floored to find the partner’s very attractive widow and toddler son.
Abby Price is still adjusting emotionally to her new normal when her car is hit and careens into a ditch during a storm. She’s swamped by them when she’s attracted to the tall, dark, handsome man with the dangerous air who just happens to be the man her husband, Wade, asked her to pass a cryptic message onto.
Wade and JP’s former boss has continued to pepper Abby with questions she can’t answer in surprise visits making JP suspicious of him and protective of Abby. JP’s determined to learn who set him up and targeted him for death and Abby’s just as driven to learn the truth about Wade after discovering she didn’t know him as well as she thought she did. Rating: 4.5stars
A new author for me so I was not sure what to expect. We jump straight into the action with a car crash on a stormy night and the meeting of our hero JP and heroine Abby. The action is so full on from the outset that I found myself going back to the list of other books in the series to see if I had missed something by not reading an earlier book. This frustrated me a little but I decided to persevere. I was so glad I did. I quickly found myself riveted and read the entire book in a day.
The characters were strong and the balance between suspense and romance really worked well. Based on this book I would definitely seek out this author again.
I received this book free from eBook Discovery. I have voluntarily reviewed the book and this is my honest review.
Abby has been waiting a year for JP, her husband's former partner. Abby wants to get answers on her husband's death. JP is on the run and is afraid that Abby's husband framed him. I received a free copy of this book from eBook Discovery. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. This is a very good romantic suspense. Abby is determined to prove her husband a hero for her son's sake. Abby is a well-developed character. Abby wants to find the answers to her husband's secrets. JP is very protective of Abby and her son. JP wants to keep her safe from the danger and the secrets, but Abby is very determined and persistent. As they search for answers, they draw closer together. The romance and the story are believable. I really enjoyed reading this book.
This was a great suspense action/adventure story with a touch of romance. Both JP and Abby were interesting characters on their own. Together they created a completely different dynamic. The whole idea that Wade hid part of his work and life from Abby only to have it revealed in such dire circumstances was very thought provoking. The chase across the country that JP and Abby undertook to figure out Wades cryptic clues also was very compelling. I found that I just could ‘t put this novel down until I reached the end. I particularly liked the closure that the epilogue provided. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
The author has given us a wonderful set that pulls us into the lives of the characters. You cannot help but keep turning the pages with lies, betrayal, secrets and heart pounding suspense.

An Entertaining, Romantic Suspense that Will Keep You Guessing!
IN THE ARMS OF A STRANGER is an entertaining, romantic suspense that will keep you guessing about the characters' past and how it will shape their futures. Well written, with plenty of sexual tension and even, at times, comical elements, IN THE ARMS OF A STRANGER is a delightful read.
Abby Price, a young widow and mother of a four-year-old son, is determined to find out who her husband, Wade Price, had really been. Following his death, Abby learned that her husband, whom she had known for seven years, had been living a double life as a spy and may have gone rogue. Then one rainy night, Abby meets Wade's partner, JP Blackmon.
Abby, determined to finally learn the truth about her ex-husband's life, seeks out JP and tries to convince him to take her along in his quest to find the truth. Abby, however, doesn't know how much she should trust JP, who is apparently running from his own troubles.
Throughout the twists and turns that Abby and JP take to unravel the truth, the sexual tension and romantic connection builds. But can Abby ever really trust JP, who is so much like her ex-husband? Can JP ever let himself be with his ex-partner's and mentor's wife? Even if JP does believe that Wade may have double crossed him, doesn't Abby deserve so much more?
IN THE ARMS OF A STRANGER exemplifies how important trust is in every relationship and makes you question whether, at times, we may turn a blind eye to things we don't want to see, especially when it involves our loved ones. Moreover, Ms. Kelly does a great job of writing a story that proves that strong attractions, irrespective of common sense, sometimes can't be denied.
A truly enjoyable read, I recommend IN THE ARMS OF A STRANGER, to anyone who enjoys a good romantic suspense novel!

Hello JP Blackmon!
Besides the irresistible cover, In the Arms of a Stranger was a thrilling romantic suspense that I have been craving for a while. I think it's been a couple of months since I have had my fix and since most of you know I love to read just about anything - there are times where I always crave for a specific genre types once in a blood more.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. When everything goes wrong and JP is suddenly found as a marked man by his own country, he travels to find the only man that can fix what had gone wrong. Too bad in his journey he discovers that his only best friend that would know anything about what is going on - is already dead and has left behind a lovely widow and a son.
Abby Price has suddenly come to a conclusion that she might have never really known her husband. She sort of knew what he worked as but as his boss and a few other people keep showing up looking for answers - she is suddenly found herself trapped in a web of lies looking for her own way out.
Fascinating story! thrilling and entertaining. Kept me guessing and looking for clues until the very end as JP and Abby set out to find the true and danger follows them around every corner. JP is unable to deny the attraction that keeps growing between Abby and him until flames are hot and hard to ignore.
I enjoyed the romance in this one and Abby's struggle with not only facing some ugly truth about her husband, but also the fact that she finds herself alive again but with the wrong kind of man. But she was a strong woman and even a stronger mother. I really did like her character and it was hard not to feel for everything that she had going wrong for her.
Virginia Kelly really knows how to tell a wonderful suspenseful but romantic story and I am looking forward to more from this author!
In the Arms of a Stranger was an edge-of-your-seat romance, full of action and emotion, that I could not put down!
JP Blackmon has been on the run for the last year. Injured and at the end of his rope he is determined to get answers from the one who betrayed him and their country, his old partner. He arrives at his partners house only to find out that he has been dead for a year, but his partner's widow has been expecting him... Abby Price has questions of her own about her husbands death and JP is the only clue that he left her to find them. Instead of answers though, Abby finds more questions and a deadly attraction to a man that holds more secrets then her husband ever did.
These two embark on dangerous journey for answers with an unknown adversary on their heels willing to kill to keep them from finding the truth. In the Arms of a Stranger was full of riveting intrigue, relentless suspense and scorching romance. A real page-turner! The tension in this book was off the chain; what with the plot's whodunit and the chemistry just sizzling between Abby and JP. They fight their attraction of course, JP not knowing where his life is going to lead one moment to the next and Abby not being able to trust him, and them both suffering through a bout of guilt over Abby's husband.
Virginia Kelly has created characters with plenty of depth, a plot that constantly moved and captivated, with writing that places you right in the middle of the story. Whether it be in the middle of a bull's pen, searching a dark house, or in a cabin in the middle of the woods. In the Arms of a Stranger is a top notch romantic suspense that I recommend! Now I need to go back and read Dancing in the Dark, a novella featuring JP's sister, Janey!
JP Blackmon is on the run, hiding from the government agency he works for. For the past twelve months he has successfully avoided being captured, but now he is on a mission to find out the truth and clear his name.
Abby Price fell in love with Wade Price, but never knew exactly what his job entailed. When Wade is killed during a mission and labeled a traitor, Abby will do whatever it takes to find out the truth about what happened to her husband.
Not knowing that his partner Wade had been killed during the mission that labeled them both traitors, JP seeks Wade out, where he finds Wade’s widow Abby and their young son Cole. Even though they are unsure they can trust one another, JP and Abby team up to discover the truth about Wade’s death and clear Wade and JP’s names. Sparks fly between JP and Abby as their investigation takes them across the country where secrets from Wade’s past are revealed and ultimately the truth is uncovered.
This was a great read, filled with suspense, action, and romance. Abby is faced with finding out the truth about her husband and the possibility that their entire life together has been a lie. JP finds himself falling for Abby, but is afraid to act on his feelings since he knows the pain that Wade has put Abby through and doesn't know if he can offer her any other kind of life. Throw in some real bad guys who are after JP & Abby because they want the evidence that Wade has left behind that can clear JP & Wade’s name, and you have an action packed romantic suspense that keeps you turning the pages.
I received an eARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This is a great continuation and resolution to the novella “Dancing in the Dark. Although Matt and Janey are not the focus of this book, her brother JP is. I love a romance, that’s not just a romance. That tends to get old after a while. Luckily, being full of suspense and intrigue, in addition to the romance between JP and Abby, this book hits the mark.
JP is the quintessential CIA, paramilitary bad-boy on the outside, whose eyes and heart are opened, ironically, by his former partner’s widow and son. Abby knew her husband kept secrets; she just didn’t realize how big they were until after his death. If she couldn’t trust him, she certainly doesn’t trust his bosses who have continued to hide things. She doesn’t think she can trust this stranger either, especially since he shows up (and passes out) right before those bosses come knocking again in the middle of a typhoon. But, he may have answers, and she’s darned if she’s going to give him up to the “bad guys before she finds out what they are.
These two must learn to trust, themselves and each other, if they hope to figure out just what did happen so they can clear JP’s name.
Riveting suspense, intelligent dialogue, sincere emotions, and appropriate closure help make this book a great read. I definitely recommend this book.
The author brings it all to the table with this romantic suspense that keeps you guessing as to what is going on for much of the book.
In the prequel book Dancing in the Dark we knew that JP Blackmon was missing. We knew he worked for some covert agency and was either dead or on the run. Turns out he is being framed for treason and trying to stay alive from those that want him dead. When he thinks that his partner is the one that betrayed him he goes to his wife hoping to get answers only to find out he’s been dead a year which doesn’t help him in clearing his name.
Abby Price was considerably younger than her husband but she did love him and their son. She has had a year to mourn him but also time to wonder what really happened to him and about all the secrets he kept from her and if she really knew him at all. When JP shows up, she finally sees it as her chance to get some answers. What she doesn’t count on is the attraction she feels for JP even though he is hiding just as many secrets as her husband did.
These two end up on a search for the truth that has them constantly in danger from the unknown person who killed his partner and framed him. During their perils these two also fight their attraction to each other.
The author manages to capture your attention right from the start and keeps it through out with plenty of on the edge of your seat moments.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was amazing. I started to read this knowing it had to do with some suspense and romance but did not forsee the action that came along with it. JP has been running for almost a year now due to the accusation of being treason, he claims he is innocent. When he goes on a mission to find his old partner not only does he find out that he is dead but the widow Abby. Together they set out to prove innocence and who set them up. Will they find out who is behind it or will it hit close to home and the guilty person is the dead husband or JP. This book is definitely a must read for the turn of events that the author takes you through. There are twists and turns through this action pack romance novel, when you think you have figured it out another clue is brought forth to pin-point it to someone else. When you think you have known someone for a long time, what happens when the story starts to unravel and secrets start to be found. Do you really know them? I did not foresee the ending, so it was definitely a great turn of events.
I was not able to put this book down and read it until I was done with it. This was the first time I read a book by this author and her story had a great flow to it. Trust me you do not want to miss out on this book, I will definitely be keeping an eye out for future books by this author.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher and the author in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way. Trust seems to be a recurring theme for this book. The question then becomes, is there someone you would completely trust to keep you safe from harm? How far are you willing to go to keep that trust it does work both ways.
This is not a story that you can speed read or skim through until you get to the good stuff. You have to concentrate on what you’re reading otherwise you might get confused as to what is going on or you might miss something important in other words, no television while your reading and be careful what you listen to because you will want no distractions.
If you are someone that is very picky about what books they will put their money on, and you love mystery and suspense, you can’t go wrong with getting this book. When I first started reading this book, I thought it was going to take me a few days to get through it but was astonished when I found that I had actually finished it. She got me so hooked into Abby and JP’s story that I just couldn’t put it down. And she even has time to give you some romance what a great combination. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Widowed mom and teacher Abby Price runs into a handsome stranger, or rather is run over by said hottie to discover that her deceased husband's best friend and partner is the answer to all her questions about who exactly her husband was.
This romantic suspense drama was given to me from a blog reviewer for my honest review. I set it aside for a few weeks thinking it would probably bore me. But low and behold, once I started reading it I didn't want to stop!!!
In a twisted tale of secret government operatives gone rogue and good guys got framed, Abby finds herself searching for answers to her late husband's death and his partner JP Blackmon is the guy to help her find them while clearing his good name. Not knowing who to trust but going on instinct, both of them follow a trail of clues that lead them to uncover the answers to their deadly quest for truth.
I was pleasantly surprised by this story and my only wish was that the story was a little longer. I didn't want it to end!
JP gets shot and ends up crashing his car in a ravine when he tries to swerve past an oncoming car. He manages to escape and goes to see if the person in the other vehicle is ok. They're a little hurt, but otherwise OK. They even have their child with them who’s smart and a little chatty and they even remember the name JP introduced himself as. It turns out the woman was the wife of his former military friend Wade and he didn’t know that Wade had tried to contact him or that Wade was now dead. Abby, Wade’s wife was kind of in the dark about Wade’s profession but she kind of knew something was not right about it. But she learned to cope and with JP’s help hopes to find out the truth about his death. It had great suspense. Cole, Wade’s son was absolutely adorable. Abbey, level headed and calm. JP was resourceful, capable and strong. The supporting characters were interesting and worked well in the story definitely a good book to read.
I love military, danger, and suspense riddled with romance and this story has it all! Virginia hooks you with the very first page and you will want to know how it ends after reading that. Great action, adventure, mystery, romance in a wonderfully written story. She gives you just enough answers to make you ask more questions with the mystery along with the characters in the story. On the edge of your seat moments that left me staying up late to finish it. I loved trying to figure out the clues and the author keeps them going just perfectly. I highly recommend this to any James Bond fan! Received an e-arc for an honest review.
What a read!!! :) Im guilty of judging books by their covers...I admit it. If the cover is ugly and the blurb sounds boring..I skip it. Well everyone can see this cover! :)) And the blurb really interested me! So I was really looking forward to reading In the Arms of a Stranger and I was NOT disappointed!!! This book was amazing!! A true action adventure love story! I loved this author! She just draws you right into the story and you feel like youre there! An absolutely wonderful read! *ARC received from publisher
I could not put this book down. When I did, I could not wait to pick it back up. In another words, this will be a wonderful book to fall in love with. Yes, you will fall in love by time you finish it. I sure did with the character JP. I felt as if I was the leading lady. I look forward to other reviews about this book. Fantastic, clean, PG13 love story for adults who will not feel guilty about ready love stories.
I was hooked from the first page and couldn’t put this book down until I was finished. In the Arms of a Stranger has everything a James Bond fan would love action, adventure, romance with a hot leading man plus the added bonus of a “happily ever after rather than a “happily now. I look forward to future books from Virginia Kelly. I would definitely recommend this book!
I received an eARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
JP claims to be innocent but the government that he had worked for has labeled him a traitor. JP has been on the run from the government, JP is trying to clear him name but will he succeed... Edge of your suspense read, that you will need to take your time to read. Overall an interesting action pack story to read. I received this book for an honest review, thank you. I can honestly say that this is a solid four stars.
