Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders from New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Yarros.
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.
But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile humans. They incinerate them.
With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.
She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.
Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom's protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.
Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.
Rebecca Yarros is a hopeless romantic and coffee addict. She is the New York Times bestselling author of over twenty novels, including Fourth Wing, The Last Letter and The Things We Leave Unfinished. She’s also the recipient of the Colorado Romance Writer’s Award of Excellence for Eyes Turned Skyward. Rebecca loves military heroes and has been blissfully married to hers for over twenty years. A mother of six, she is currently surviving the teenage years with all four of her hockey-playing sons.

This rating and review reflect only the quality of the Graphic Audio recording of Fourth Wing, not Fourth Wing itself. My Fourth Wing content rating is 5+/5 stars.
Part 2 of the Graphic Audio Fourth Wing has more of the same issues that we saw in part 1. The pronunciations are even less consistent then last time, which is unfortunate. In general it isn't noticeable but the Amber Mavis scene as well as the first time Violet and Liam walk to the library together are distractingly inconsistent. Lots of last names, and dragon names are just wildly different depending on who is speaking, this goes on for the entire audiobook. Rhiannon also misgenders her own dragon at one point.
The Montserrat section is shockingly messy. A line gets cut off mid word near the beginning, another line gets inserted incorrectly close to the same time. The worst for me was when Xaden was speaking out loud to Dain but they used the mental connection echo by accident.
The voice acting is solid. For a lot of this book I've been having a hard time with Gabriel Michael because they also VA Lucien in the ACOTAR Graphic Audio books. That being said, Khaya and Gabriel do have amazing chemistry and their smut scenes together are fantastic. I was really unsure about Gabriel right up until chapter 30 but I take it all back. I think I can look past everything for the way he delivers in the scenes where Xaden and Violet are being romantic.
The side character VAs are overall great, my only complaint with them is I am not sure if they were coached on pronunciation for last names and dragon names. Rhiannon's VA is doing better than she was in part 1, I still don't love her but she's not distracting like in the first part.
The sound effects and music added by Graphic Audio do make a big difference in the listening experience and I do think I will listen to this over the standard audio version of Fourth Wing for re-reads. This Graphic Audio edition might be weird for a first read through of Fourth Wing, there is some context and stage-direction writing that is lost in this version. Rebecca Soler does a fantastic job with the standard audio version of this book but it's hard to compare to a full cast.
I'm absolutely terrible when it comes to rating books like everything gets a 5 star hahaha! I literally and self reflected an everything and I still feel like it gets the 5 stars 🤣
okay so second reread for the rest of the series and yet here I am like mind blown!!
also certain character dying hurt even harder the second time like can we get a book where he is revived there's gotta be something 😭
also the betrayal end i was listening to it again and then I realized technically xaden tried to distance himself from violet and she kind of forced herself on him so technically a teensy bit its her fault bc he gave her outs and she didn't take them plus be fr like was she actually gonna go join him before 50% of the way into the book bc she was anti him with stupid dain breathing down her back
like at this point yall she should have flown off by herself bc dain betrayed her too WOW surprise surprise *SIGH* and the fact that he is still in the book like WHY?! what importance does he have besides being annoying him being there is like nails agaisnt a chalkboard my ears bleed 💀
the dragons i forgot how much I loved them but also shout out to Xadens dragon she's a fav bc she is so badass and didn't get enough book time like I wanna see more dragon bonding
overall I loved reading this this was my first true enemies to lovers and im so happy to have finished it again and yes you heard it here first I will be reading iron flame solely to hear Xadens voice on the graphic audio 🤣
I didn’t think I could love this book any more than I already did, but the Dramatised Audio is absolutely EPIC and my heart is fully back in Violet & Xaden’s world ahead of Onyx Storm.
Side note - I wish ŷ had a Part 1 & 2 joint title page as this is technically counting as 2 books?!
Okay so this is my fav series ever and this was my first time reading the dramatized version. I LOVE how it feels like you’re listening to a movie. BUT
1. It made Liam’s death even more soul shattering
2. Idk if I like the spicy scenes as much bc of the background noises. Kinda awkward but like I get it.
Overall 100000000/10 I love this series it is my Roman Empire
Fourth Wing is book one in The Empyrean series by Rebecca Yarros. This review is for the Graphic Audio Part 1 & 2 narrated by a full cast, sound effects, and cinematic music!
I had heard rave reviews for this new series and many love this novel. As for the story I found it interesting, but I didn’t fall in love like many other readers. The very first chapter reminded me of Divergent. I found the world and feel of the story had a lot of similar aspects from a few different series I’ve read or watched. It’s not a bad thing. Many will like that feeling.
I felt like there are a lot of contradictory and conflicting aspects in what the author is portraying. The layout and plot for the dragons and riders had a lot of kill or be killed. This reminded me of The Hunger Games. We get a lot of dragons killing their riders instead of saving them. But, we’re told or led to believe that there aren’t a lot of dragon riders to begin with so, why do the dragons kill them? We’re also told dragons CAN’T survive the bonded once their rider dies and then other times the dragon can survive. It felt like things weren't clear. I also don’t understand all the deaths at the dragon training school.
The lead heroine, Violet, at times is smart and determined and then at other times she acts like a teenager. I liked her and then I didn’t. It went on like this throughout the novel. We do see her grow in strength both mentally and physically, but also she reverts to the beginning. She knows there's death, but she can’t bear it. It’s a back and forth with her.
Then we have the heroine’s childhood best friend, Dain. I didn’t care for him. I disliked how dismissive and manipulative he was towards Violet. You might think, oh maybe a love interest, but we soon figure out he loves her, but he still sees her as a fragile little girl.
The lead male, Xaden, oh man is he hawt and broody. He couldn’t give two sh**s about Violet in the beginning, but he warms up to her. He’s morally gray in my opinion and that makes him oh so sexy. I like him.
Graphic Audio: As for the audio, it's an awesome listen in GA. I thoroughly enjoyed the sound effects, cinematic music and voices for the characters. It adds to the story and brings it to life. The passion and fight scenes come to life in both part 1 & 2.
My one grip with the GA is that they split it into 2 audio books instead of one full audio. And, where they stopped part 1 leaves you on a cliffhanger in the middle of a battle scene. Really!! Why? As for the ending of part 2 well you're also left on a cliffhanger with a big surprise at the end.
This second GraphicAudio book was so well done! Especially the ending fighting scenes! Ugh the pain of Liam’s death was just as sad as when I read the book. This is such a good way to re-read this book.
Call this series overhyped all you want this was incredible! I went into this completely blind and I ADORED everything I got. The action, the intrigue, the suspense oh my!
Xaden is in my Top 5 Book Boyfriends of all time. He's cunning, smart and protects the people he cares about with his life. I adore him! I love that he isn't ashamed of Violet and goes out of his way to help and train her. Violet is amazing! She's overcome so much. Her sass and backbone are awesome! I respect the hell out of her. Teirn's wisecracks and dry humor were great too! Her boy best friend (Dane, Dean, Dill??) I couldn't care less about him if I tried. He's a jerk who consistently puts Violet down and coddles her in dangerous situations. He has this holier-than-thou thing going on and acts like he knows what's best for Violet even when she explicitly says otherwise. It's frustrating and annoying that he doesn't listen or seem to respect her in any way shape or form. It's like she can never prove herself worthy enough to him regardless of the situation. I wasn't expecting his betrayal but if I'm being honest I was in no way surprised by it.
I'm very glad that I waited for the GraphicAudio editions of this series to be released. The experience has been AMAZING! Every audiobook should be a GraphicAudio production.
Part 2 had me blushing a bit 🤣 all the 🔥 happens in the second half of the book, and it’s 🥵💦. Yes, I had to lower the volume down IN MY EARS because of how um 💦🔥INTENSE💦🔥 the voice actors for Xaden and Violet are 😅. GODS, get a room 🫠🥵🔥🤣🤣🤣. Great job with all the noises and sounds effects needed to make it seem like I’m IN the room with Xaden and Violet 🔥😅🫣
And yes when the incredibly angsty/sad scene came up, I was BAWLING again😭☹️. The narrators did an amazing job conveying their emotions 😭🫶.
Also Xaden’s voice grew on me 👀 I was loving Daddy Tairn’s voice more in part 1, but I found myself appreciating Xaden’s a lot more this time around 👀😉.
I continued to notice some of the things I noticed for part 1. I wish the pronunciations were always correct 😬
I did find myself enjoying part 2 more than part 1, maybe because SO MUCH happens in the second half of the book, which made it difficult for me to be picky 🤣
I truly thought already knowing what happened would mean I didn’t care as much the second time. But I couldn’t put the book down (AGAIN). I am already jonesing for iron flame but I’m going to wait a little.
There were some inconsistencies with pronunciation (ex: sometimes Deigh is pronounced “Dee, sometimes “Day) by the same actors. Sgaeyl was also very nice which was odd.
