Mikhail’s power had only grown with every new day, and his Family was also flourishing. However, so were their enemies. New ones had emerged, and old ones who’d long ago written them off were now stirring. But really, was this a problem? He was a healer, and there was always a remedy, and mandatory “treatment could not be stopped! Indeed, his enemies would pay handsomely for it. At least, whatever remained of them...
"The Healer's Way Book 3," an audiobook crafted by Oleg Sapphire and Alexey Kovtunov and brought to life by narrator Jonathan Johns in 2024, is a mesmerizing continuation of a portal progression fantasy series that thrives on its blend of humor, intrigue, and unconventional heroism. This installment sees Mikhail, the healer-turned-powerhouse, navigating an ever-expanding web of challenges in a world where his unique abilities both elevate and endanger him. The audiobook is a testament to the authors ability to deepen their narrative while keeping listeners hooked with sharp wit and vivid world-building.
One of the standout highlights is Mikhail’s relentless growth. His power, already formidable, blossoms further, reflecting his journey from a displaced healer to a force of nature in this strange new realm. The authors excel at portraying his dual nature: a compassionate healer at heart, yet a cunning strategist who wields his skills like a weapon. This book leans heavily into his family’s flourishing dynamic, offering a refreshing focus on loyalty and legacy amid chaos. The introduction of new enemies - both fresh faces and resurrected foes from the past - adds layers of tension, keeping the stakes high without feeling repetitive.
The humor, a signature of Kovtunov’s style (rooted in his background as a paramedic), shines through in Mikhail’s sardonic quips and the absurd situations he encounters. A particularly memorable subplot involves a "Corgi Horse" with comically short legs, an odd yet delightful twist that injects levity into the darker moments. This balance of light and shadow is one of the series strengths, and Book 3 refines it further, ensuring listeners are as likely to chuckle as they are to gasp.
Jonathan Johns narration is a perfect match for the material. His delivery captures Mikhail’s wry confidence and the escalating drama with equal finesse. He gives distinct voices to the growing cast, from scheming aristocrats to desperate adversaries, making the audiobook a fully immersive experience. The pacing aligns seamlessly with the story’s rhythm - slowing for introspective beats and accelerating during confrontations - enhancing the emotional depth without dragging.
The world-building expands intriguingly, hinting at broader mysteries within the Empire and beyond. Mikhail’s "mandatory treatment" philosophy - where enemies unwittingly fund their own downfall - remains a clever motif, showcasing his ingenuity. However, the plot occasionally stumbles with loose threads, as some characters and arcs are introduced only to fade unresolved, a minor flaw that might frustrate completionists but doesn’t derail the overall enjoyment. Book 3 leaves you eager for more, a healer’s remedy for any fantasy lover’s cravings.
I received a review copy of this book. is the third book in this series, and we finally get to see the main character beginning to take revenge on some of the enemies that have plagued him the entire time he's been in this world, and oh, what fun it is. This guy doesn't just go get revenge, and that's the end of it, oh, no, that'd be too easy. he completely crushes them, and leaves them wondering what happened. Absolutely love it. Looking forward to more books in the series.
The protagonist is absolutely OP as he combines the powers of a healer, plague doctor and Deadpool and has his helpful bird army but luckily there are multitudes of enemies everywhere so the story don´t get too hillarious.
The protagonist´s faction seems overly lucky as their omnipresent enemies keep underestimating them and don´t work together or use their ressources to the fullest - this goes double for the faction with the flying power armors...
is a series that I get an ARC of. I check the translation from Russian to English. This is one of the stories that once I finish, I'm looking forward to getting the next ARC in the series. It's just a fun read for me.
8/10 The reviews of the rest of this series will show the same review. I'm trying to help out authors by putting up reviews for the ARCs that have been sent to me.
It is fascinating how much trouble one can get into in this almost lawless world. I do wonder about every bad guy's obsession with Vika, but gross people will be gross. There aren't any big magical changes in this, but there is steady growth and an increasingly powerful home base.
Each book in this series has gotten consistently better. And considering the first book was really good, that is saying something. The protagonist started as a weak, but ingenious character. He has gotten stronger, and now has some very fun and supremely interesting friends orbiting around him.
The Count has become powerful enough to take down many of their enemies. He is slowly rebuilding the Buloov estate. Hidden enemies remain to be exposed. I like the action, humor, and intrigue. I look forward to the next book.
Surrounded by enemies? No problem. More like an opportunity to supply your forces and restock your pantry. Solid action with a little movement to the storyline. So much available with this world and the portals. Looking forward to see where it goes once the politics take a backseat.
This installer was pretty good. What I would call a build up to more action - but still very good read. Mikhail is a great character. Easy to like, inventive in his attacks and killing the bad guys, and intelligent. Really liked this book.
I like learning more about the interconnected worlds and the plans our protagonist has. Feels a little weird though how little faith they keep having in him despite him proving himself again and again
Its OK, but basically the same exact thing as second half of book 1 and entirety of book 2.. there are some weird arbitrary limitations holding the OP MC in check and its boring. Just take the story forward, there is a robust world already built and partially established.
The story remains simple and fun. Good logical world building and solid main characters. The story is fast paced with good dialogue that makes you want to know what the characters will say next. Really good!
The solutions to all the challenges are always unique and entertaining. I’d like to see more development of the relationship between the count and countess
I love this soooooooo much, but I find myself unable to properly describe and review the book without sounding like a moron. I likey the book Har, Har, Har... Anyway there's a lot on a list of things to do for the family. First and foremost he would hafta keep them all safe from the ones that want to see them all Dead or Raped, and then take the rest of his holdings as plunder! Basically he needs to end a war that's gone on way too long! And of course take back his lands in the surrounding area. It turns out that the arch-nemesis he fought with in the second book, the pigeon Kooky, who he finally caught and allied with has become one of his greatest assets as a spy. Ohhhh and don't get me started about his trusty steed! Yes I'ma talkin about his funny weird chimerad horse! So go grab the book quick to find out how that happened.
Here's a couple of quotes that amused me:
"And yes, I am a Healer, so I’d simply healed the poor guy too, too much."
"Chips, yes! I could tell how unhealthy they were, and so I just had to try some. Hmmm...they tasted like gastritis, so I took a few more. And then some more after that."
Hmmm...how had he managed to juggle three glasses all this time? That was talent, and nothing but.
