In 2012 I began a holiday tradition of writing Christmas codas for some of my—and your—favorite stories. I ran the codas on my blog and left them up there for readers to enjoy all year round.
Readers requested that I collect the codas and make them available digitally and in print, and I thought that was a fun idea, which is how you come to be reading this. I decided to add another ten new codas to the collection, as well as some recipes for cocktails and dishes that are either featured in the original works or seem to add some final comment or insight into the era or the characters or their relationship.
Author of 100+ titles of Gay Mystery and M/M Romance, Josh Lanyon has built her literary legacy on twisty mystery, kickass adventure, and unapologetic man-on-man romance.
Her work has been translated into twelve languages. The FBI thriller Fair Game was the first Male/Male title to be published by Italy’s Harlequin Mondadori and Stranger on the Shore (Harper Collins Italia) was the first M/M title to be published in print. In 2016 Fatal Shadows placed #5 in Japan’s annual Boy Love novel list (the first and only title by a foreign author to place on the list). The Adrien English series was awarded the All-Time Favorite Couple by the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ M/M Romance Group. In 2019, Fatal Shadows became the first LGBTQ mobile game created by Moments: Choose Your Story.
She’s an EPIC Award winner, a four-time Lambda Literary Award finalist (twice for Gay Mystery), an Edgar nominee, and the first ever recipient of the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ All Time Favorite M/M Author award.
Josh is married and lives in Southern California with her irascible husband, two adorable dogs, a small garden, and an ever-expanding library of vintage mystery destined to eventually crush them all beneath its weight.

Is it only me or does everyone feel that holiday codas are the best part about reading romance?🤔🤔 Well!!! it's not the holiday season but I found this coda just yesterday and don't care about the season. I just wanted to see my fav couples once again preferably being happy.
JL is again different, she has given 3-5 pages per couple and most of these shorts ate not Christmasy. They feel like an extended version of JL books rightly so because she is notorious for abrupt endings.
I liked catching up on my favorite characters from Josh Lanyon's works .... although many of them I didn't really remember. But anyhoo ... it was a light, fun read.
Re-Read Review January 2017: Always love these codas and they're even better a second time.
Original Review December 2014: This was such a fun read. Some could be labeled outtakes others could be epilogues, but whatever you call them, they are great! There were a few from stories I haven't read yet so I skipped those and will go back to them once I have. I think the one for Holmes & Moriarity stood out for me because it wasn't really what you called "happy holiday" but it was perfect Kit and JX, had it been written a bit more happily then it wouldn't have suited the characters and the stories we've come to love. This is a must read for Lanyon lovers, especially if you're like me and never really ready to let go of his characters when you turn the last page.
Loved these little extra insight from beloved characters.
Jake and Adrien and Kit and JX 's codes were my favorites. The Adrien English Series and Holmes & Moriarity series are two of my favorite series ever.
Looking at all these codas, I realized I still have many mores books to read/listen from Josh Lanyon. Therefore, as I read them, I will be revisiting this book for those books codas.
I wish I remembered more of these characters.... I probably would have enjoyed this more! I did like it, but these are such quick little glimpses I couldn't really bring enough of the original books to mind to get much out of them. But it's Josh Lanyon, and he is awesome, so it's all good!
Oops! I've just found out I never rated this. It is also because I had read the codas one by one first. But to put them all together is a great idea. Of course one should have read the book to be able to enjoy these delightful glimpses in the future of the MCs.
I had read these on the blog and saved each as a Word document, but it's nice to have them collected in one place. There are also recipes for food and drinks included. I don't drink alcohol, so the cocktail recipes are lost on me, but I'm sure other readers appreciate them. I may try some of the simpler recipes for meals. I enjoyed the codas catching up with various couples, especially for the books that had abrupt endings.
I haven't read all the series so it was interesting to peek into the relationships of some of them that I hadn't read and to catch up with the folks I had. Some of the short stories were better than others. Some made me smile and some were too short to really get into it. I loved the Adrien and Jake story but they were the first ones I read and I have reread them many times so it was nice for a quick glance back at them.
I'm reading the Codas as I read the books. As I haven't read all of Josh Lanyon's books yet (but I will!), I can't rate this collection until I finish it.
Somebody Killed His Editor: Christopher and J.X. Love this series. love, love, love it. And it was nice to see this little scene that took place between Somebody Killed His Editor and All She Wrote.
The Dark Tide: Adrien and Jake Been a while since I read the Adrien English series, but I loved it! So this was a cute, little read, with Jake being all sweet.
Mummy Dearest: Drew and Fraser I loved Mummy Dearest, so to see a Coda from them was a great surprise! Cute two pages.
Heart Trouble: Ford and Jacob Cute, cute, cute! Nice to read a little bit more about these two.
Perfect Day: Wyatt and Graham The original short story was good: this made it even better. Good story between these two, angsty.
The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks: Nick and Perry Awww, love these two!
The Parting Glass: Tim and Luke These two's story was heartbreaking. So nice to finally see them in a good place!
Come Unto These Yellow Sands: Swift and Max Love these two!
I Spy Something Christmas: Mark & Stephen This one was a scene I'd already read in I Spy Something Christmas, but it was a nice one for this collection.
Cards on the Table: Tim and Jack Awwww!
Fair Game: Elliot and Tucker I definitely want to see more scenes between Roland and Tucker. ;-)
Ghost of a Chance: Sam and Rhys The first page scared the hell out of me... but then everything turned out fine. Well, relatively fine. It's was sweet. :-)
In Plain Sight: Glen & Nash Green Glass Beads: Archer & Rake This Rough Magic: Brett and Rafferty Lone Star: Mitch and Web Sort of Stranger Than Fiction: Ethan and Michael The White Knight: Sean and Dan Just Desserts: Ridge and Tug The Dark Farewell: Julian and David The Dickens With Love: James and Segwick Lovers and Other Strangers: Finn and Con In Sunshine or In Shadow: Keir and Rick Icecapade: Noel and Robert Other People's Weddings: Griff and Hamar Snowball in Hell: Nathan and Matthew The Darkling Thrush: Colin and Septimus Until We Meet Once More: Vic and Sean Kick Start: Will and Taylor
I read many of these coda's on Josh's website and his blog here at Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ. However, I was one of those who asked for them in ebook form, so I could sit in my favorite cosy chair and savor these Christmas snippets. The stories show us our favorite characters a few years on in their relationships, and the recipes are a nice added bonus.
Savoring these stories each December will probably become a yearly Christmas tradition for me.
A collection of Christmas codas for almost every couple Josh Lanyon wrote about!!
Needless to say, I was in a reader heaven the whole time reading this. I loved each coda, but the best one for me was the one about Wyatt and Graham from ...their bittersweet relationship gets me crying each time.
While the individual stories are all good, I think it's hard to have a themed anthology like this—especially by a single author—without it starting to feel repetitive, which is just what happens here. I think the individual codas would be better read after the related books than one after another.
After all, even the best chocolates start to lose their appeal if you eat an entire one-pound box in one sitting (or so I'm told *g*).
Some of the stories were good, some a bit boring, most of them a bit repetitive. My favorite was the follow-up to Mummy Dearest with Drew & Fraser, and then the one to Ghost of a Chance with Sam & Rhys. Possibly also the one to Icecapade with Noel & Robert. The rest... hm. Sweet but rather forgettable, to be honest.
A delightful collection of Christmasy snippets from different books. some are fun, and some are sad; some are romantic, and some are angsty; all of them lovely.
My grade of enjoyment varied in function of how much I liked the characters in each book, but no matter who you love, I'm sure you'll find it here =D
I really enjoyed the coda's for Somebody Killed His Editor, Mummy Dearest, The Dark Tide and The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks.
I struggled to remember the other characters and plots. I spent more time looking them up then I did reading the codas. It did make me want to read the books again though!
The 'Perfect Day' coda made me bawl. Lanyon's shorts are amazing. Definitely recommended for the holiday season! There were even some recipes included. I'll have to try them at some point.
