Dan Robicheaux is thrilled to finally be home for good. Retired from the SEAL teams, he's excited to start a new life with his family and friends at Voodoo Guardians. He never expected his first assignment to lead him down a path he'd been avoiding for years. A strange woman afloat in their bayou, with a head full of numbers, a no-nonsense way of speaking, and something that makes his heart sing. He needs to find out who is responsible for kidnapping, and nearly killing her. Then he has to figure out what to do about keeping her.
Finley Xavier is a brilliant mind unlike any they've ever seen. An eidetic memory that computes numbers and engineering principles the way most people breathe, she's a value to everyone. Even those who intend to use her abilities for bad. Escaping her captors, she's content to die instead of being in their grasp. What she never expected, was to find herself in the arms of the only man who has ever understood her.
Thank you for reading my bio and my books! I live and work in Dallas, TX. I'm the mother of two amazing daughters and two fantastic, intelligent grandsons, with one more on the way, and a wonderful son-in-law. I love to cook, travel, and write, but I'm also an avid reader. Being from a military family, my books often center around strong, military men but I also LOVE strong, independent, intelligent women. I really loved Finley in this one. She was awkward in the best way! The kind of person who would be great to have in your life, you know where you would stand with her, even if there might be some embarrassing events. It really sucked that her parents didn't get that of her and wording it like that vastly under sells what they really thought of her and how they treated her. So it was great seeing how everyone at Belle Fleur welcomed Finley with open arms. Finley kept waiting for the shoe to drop with them, but it never did. All the things others poo pooed her for, they loved her for and it wasn't just one person but everyone there. It was also great to see how her big brain would fix things or lead them to a different path to fix something on their own. The "No Looky" button had me laughing! Dan was great with Finley, saw her as such a blessing and was grateful he got to have her as his own.
As the team worked to figure out what was going on in the larger picture with Finley, they were led back to an old foe that they thought had been dealt with. And while they cut off the head, this new one reared up. It didn't take them any time at all to take care of business and do what was needed to be done.
On a side note, it seems like in this book there was the final step for Trak to come to terms with his past. I loved that he got to see that in person and feel the difference when talking to people.
I chose this rating because this was a really great book. I really enjoyed almost all of the characters. This was a book of protection, intelligence, kindness, compassion, being very aware, and falling in love and also realizing that we all can be loved. I enjoyed Dan and Finley story. I think the author did an amazing job with putting these characters together. I love the way Dan was so understanding of what Finley was going through and how he was so patient with her, his family was understanding as well. Great read! I recommend this book to all romance readers.
Love how Mary Kennedy brings the unique and different characters into her stories. Finley has a pure heart and soul but is different from others she knows. Her difference is being exploited and used by those who are supposed to love her. Dan loves her just the way she is along with his big beautiful family.
Once again Mary Kennedy gives us a wonderful read wanting us to help the damsel . Finley and Dan's story was such a beautiful touching story. How Dan and his family show Finley she is normal and brilliant. Old enemy surfaces bring the Reapers and VG to the rescue. Can't wait for the next one
Mary Kennedy books never disappoint. She weaves her magic with each characters throughout a series. She leaves you wanting more and looking for an email saying release date. One of my favorite authors.
Thank you for writing another great story. This was such a heart warming story. I loved how you took us on twist and turns and then to the perfect conclusion. Great story!!
A neurodivergent woman is found in the bayou closest to Belle Fleur and it changes Dan Robichoux's life forever. She is lost in her head and recovering from kidnap, torture and ill-treatment at the hands of her only family. Dan rescues her and her sweet spirit captivates him. There is a very confused web here, including some old threads that the team thought had been eliminated years before.
Great as always. Once I start reading your books, I can't put it down until I finish it. Than I patiently wait for the next book in the series. Keep them coming girl!!!!
Yet again, Mary Kennedy brings us another extraordinary story with unique characters, a storyline that drags you in, and all the love and family you expect from these books. I need the next one so bad. Hopefully, I don't have to wait too long, the excerpt from Rett's book has me intrigued
Another great read from Mary Kennedy. Old and new mixing together solving problems. Dan and Finely were so cute together. Her being able go say what's what is refreshing.
This is yet another amazing book. These characters in all of these books are wonderful. I always have a hard time putting them down. I can't wait for the next book
I absolutely love this author she never disappoints. She pulls you into the book your reading and doesn't let you go till the last word. Need the next book
