Sleeping with the colonel’s daughter? Risky. Making her call you Sir? Reckless.

Command Force Alpha, Book 1

When a mission against the Russian mafia goes south, Colonel Stafford, head of a deep-cover ops team, wrests a hospital-bed promise from his protégé. Although eager to return to the field, Evan Sommers swears to keep the colonel’s daughter, Katsu, safe from retaliation.

The task isn’t simple for the battle-tested Marine Corps captain. Four years have passed since his secret affair with sweet, compliant Katsu. Now she’s a streetwise pool shark who refuses to obey any command.

Kat resists the need for Evan’s protective shadow, until deadly threats expose her vulnerability. Her future depends on this hardened soldier, and their sizzling dynamic reveals what Kat’s bland college dating life lacked—a man with the will and desire to tame her.

Danger creates potent, unexpected scenarios that test their sexual limits, yet a real relationship is impossible. Evan is the warrior who could be her Master, but how can she fully submit? The next mission—even the next knock on the door—could rob Kat of the man she loves.

Warning: This book contains a reformed playboy Specials Ops stud who knows how to tease, demand, and spank what he wants out of a colonel’s unruly pool shark of a daughter. Wait…how is this supposed to be a warning?

I did not like Evan at all. He came across as an egotistical, self centered asshat. His internal monologue was a turn off. While the BDSM was very light in this book the hero's behavior just did not make me like him at all. He constantly censored the h for her cussing but it was alright for him to do it because he could. At times he questioned if he was going to far and abusing his power and as far as I am concered he did. They never discussed limits or safe words and his whole attitude towards the h sucked.

Katsu is supposed to be this tough poolshark and when the H starts giving her orders she just loses the ability to make decisions for herself. This whole relationship just came across as juvenile.

Pool hustler Katsu Stafford is working her latest conquest at a favorite local bar, Drifters. After finishing an interview for a legit job, she decides to let off some steam and plays the table with three clueless guys. In the process of stripping the men of an easy $500, she senses an all too familiar man entering the bar and knows he is there for her. Marine Corporate Evan Sommers was not only the man Katsu gave her virginity to four years ago, but also the man who deserted her once her father secured him a place in Special Ops training. Now Evan works for Command Force Alpha led by Kadsu’s father. They both have avoided each other for years; therefore Kadsu knows something is amiss if he has sought her out at the bar. Once alone, Kadsu learns that her father has been hospitalized with a gunshot wound and Evan’s orders are to take Kadsu to a safe house as a precaution. Now that Kadsu and Evan are forced together 24/7 until the danger subsides, they must confront the elephant in the room and decide where they both stand with each other.

I was expecting a highly suspenseful military op story but Own started out slow and really didn’t gain momentum. The writing was not bad but it was not riveting. My main issue is the characters did not stir me emotionally and therefore I never invested in their HEA. While we learn the background of Katsu and Evan, we never really connect with what makes them tick. Also, I never felt any remorse from Evan regarding how he abruptly broke off their relationship years ago. The whole tone of their relationship read like you were flipping a light switch on and off. One moment Kadsu is headstrong and resistant given their past and next she is completely at ease with Evan stepping back into Dom mode with direct commands. Katsu seeks control, approval, and order and at the end of the day she wants Evan to make all the decisions for her. When he does, it was like watching an immature high school couple and a robot following a command. The relationship felt very rigid and lacked a warmth and care that should be vital to a Dom/sub relationship of any kind. I will add that the BDSM is extremely light (light spanking and mild bondage) yet even still no safe word is offered. All in all the relationship lacked a maturity I was expecting, the suspense fell totally flat, and I will not be continuing with the series.

This book would have gotten a higher rating if I wasn't left thinking that they jumped into this D/s relationship. There wasn't any discussion about and that seemed unusual to me seeming as though they hadn't spoken to one another or had a relationship of any sort for many years.

That being said, when they were together it was really hot and I felt that the author conveyed Katsu's need for someone to control her and Evan's need to be in control very well.

This book started out great, but then it kind of became a mundane story. I mean with the series being called 'Command Force Alpha' and centered around a group of guys who work in this ultra-secret spec ops group, you'd expect a little more action/suspense, but it was all kind of an afterthought to the sex that made up most of the book. And when we did get some parts of the whole plot that brought these two together, they're thrown in at random times and it's just confusing.

Katsu and Evan had a brief fling back when she was 18, but Evan ended it without a word when he decided to pursue a military career and work for Katsu's dad in his spec ops division. Now they're thrown back together when her dad ends up shot and in the ICU and Evan is in charge of her protection while they try to track down the threat. These two jump right into a relationship once again, except this time, it takes on a D/s aspect.

I was bothered that the D/s relationship guidelines/expectations were never really set. Evan just did whatever he wanted, demanded things from Katsu and tried to read her reactions to those things to see if she liked it or not. She did do a good job at one point of speaking up, but shouldn't all of this have been discussed before hand to set limits? Nothing bad happened since it was pretty light BDSM, but it's still a good idea to discuss these things, especially since he wanted to 'collar' her in the end and that's a serious commitment.

The sex does take up a majority of the book. I just kind of tuned out these parts after a while (I listened to the audio version). They were hot, don't get me wrong, but I wasn't listening to this book to only get a book about sex - I wanted the suspense/action that you come to expect with a military romantic suspense.

I didn't feel that great of a connection with them either, maybe it's because the relationship side of things was omitted. I did LOVE the ritual that Evan setup for Katsu in the end - that was very thoughtful and loving of him and said more about him than any other part of the book.

I hope the next book is better since Laurie intrigued me more than these two did, if I'm being honest.

Had high hopes for this based on reviews and recommendations, the writing style was decent, the characters interesting enough but I kept waiting for the action to ramp up considering the summary but it never really went anywhere. Additionally, as a BDSM book it's pretty irresponsible. Limits, consent, etc are not discussed, even in novelization things like this shouldn't be ignored.

Own, (Command Force Alpha), Katie Porter
Review from jeannie zelos book reviewsÌý
I do enjoy a romance with something extra to lift itÌýâ€ in this case there was the subtle BDSM angle, the need for control Evan had allied to the need to be controlled that Kat had, even though she wasn’t fully aware of it. She’d made some tentative enquiries in that direction in the past,Ìýbut been put off by what she’d learned. Evan wasn’t professional but he knew what worked for him, and was able to translate that into what Kat needed.
Kat ( Katsu)Ìýâ€ was a lovely lead. Part Japanese, multiÌýâ€ lingual and fiercely independent. She loves her father, has always accepted his career came first though andÌýhas very loving memories of her mother who died when she was young. She’s done a bit more sneaking into her father’s career that he knows though, not realising just how dangerous that can be given who and what his his work involves. She loved Evan, even though they only has a six week relationship before he left her four years ago, dropping her like aÌýhot brick to work for her father. Now he’s second in command, and back with orders to look after Kat til the current crisis which threatens her is over.Ìý
At first theyÌýare very edgy, KatÌýis still full of resentment at the way he left, while Evan doesn’t really understand why. He thinks he did what was best, leaving that way, not realising that with the loss of her mother, and with her father being away so much Kat needed more from him. But hell, he’s a bloke Ìýthinking isn’t always their strong point! Now he’s back, and the attraction between them is as strong as ever. Forced into 24 hrs. a day contact he can see what sheÌýneeds, someone to take control and it pulls at his instincts to protect through order and discipline. Soon they’re into some heavy and sensual sex, with a kind of D/s feel to it, although it’s only fringe effect, careful orders, gentle punishment. What will happen once life is back to normal though? Will Kat be left distraught as she was before, will Evan just go ahead and do what he thinks is right without talking to her again?ÌýEven if they could reveal their secret relationship this timeÌýand move forward how will Kat cope knowing his life is in constant danger. She’s borne that burden with her dad all her life, and its affected her badly emotionally, could she cope with another person she loves facing death daily? Along with their relationship puzzle there’s the physical danger to them both via her dads organisations enemies, with her dad still very ill in hospital, and the people who shot him still at large. Its looking like what they’d tackled was a larger danger than expected, and it’s always possible that there’s a leak in the organisation....no-one is quite sure of what's going on, not least me, as there were so many twists and turns in who was what, and where they fitted in to the puzzle!
I loved Evan’s strong attitude, the take charge Alpha male bit of him, and yet was so frustrated at the same attitude that couldn’t let him see just how badly he’s damaged Kat by leaving as he did. Her dad was terrific, and I loved the way she told him she was 22 now and should be allowed to make her own decisions about who was in her life. I couldn’t see a compromise for her and Evan, she had coped, but barely, with knowing her dad could be killed at any time and yet knewÌýbecause of the secrecy needed in his work she may never know any details, or even if he was dead or just labelled as MIA. How could she accept someone else she loved being in that position, and yet how could she not be with Evan, their pull was so strong. EvanÌýâ€ even if he offered to leave his work for her she knew eventually he’s regret it, it was so important to him, and she didn’t want him to feel she had made him leave something he needed to do.It seems like a catch 22 situation and yet...was there a way through? I couldn’t see one butÌýEvan had some really good ideas, and I loved the way that part played out, the way it was explained made so much sense to me, and I could see how it would workÌýâ€ if Kat would let it, but would she?
Stars: Four, a solid and sensual suspense novel.

I love Katie Porter books! Why? Because they are never what you expect them to be. After reading their Vegas Top Guns series and their Club Devant books I was excited to read this new series because come on people...a Spec Ops unit and BDSM? I'm so in!!

For an erotic military suspense the pace was quite slow and it took me a while to get in the flow of things. This is probably because it's the first book in the series and there's need for setting up the background and world it's set in. The slow pace also managed to crank up the intensity and the sexual tension, taking the anticipation super high. With every page I read I became more and more entranced by the story of Evan and Katsu and by the military suspense plot and by the time I reached the end I knew Command Force Alpha is going to be another Katie Porter series I will love!

Memorable Scene:
- the one in the pool hall, with the bet > Evan is just...wow! And Katsu is something else!
- the one in the shower > I <3 shower sex scenes!
- the one with the ritual > Yep, I cried...of course!

Favorite Quotes:
He wanted her cooperative, but that didn’t mean he wanted her meek. Hell no. Despite her petite frame, barely five-foot-two, she was larger than life compared to other women. Gorgeous. Powerful. Stubborn as a damn mule. To wrest an ounce of submission from the woman was a feat worthy of Hercules. To manage it made Evan feel that powerful. He lived for hits of power and hard-pumping shots of adrenaline.

She gasped. Her scowl was epic. “What the hell? You made a joke, and then I made a joke. You don’t have to go all Captain Bullshit on me.

“So is any of that obeying-because-we-like-it going to be sexual? She looked at him then, holding thumb and forefinger up before her. “Maybe a wee little bit?
“Katsu, he ground out, and that cat-strangling thing became even more apparent. “So help me God…
“You didn’t finish that threat. It was hard to keep her voice level. She wanted to crawl over the car and wedge herself down in his lap, driving be damned. When she was sitting with him, she knew where she was and how all these stupid pieces lined up.
“So help me God, if you don’t give it a rest, I’ll pull this car over, push you down over the hood in the view of everybody sitting in rush-hour traffic, pull your skirt up and spank you until your skin is red enough to see from three lanes away.

He snapped his hand out and grabbed her chin. Slowly then, he slid his fingertips down the front of her throat. “I am going to tell you what to do tonight, and you’re going to do it. Everything. To the letter.
Rather than contradict him, the sparking anger in her eyes dimmed, then flared to life on a shot of pure, crippling lust. If not for the support of the driver’s seat, Evan would’ve been the one to drop to his knees. Christ, she was so responsive.

This would be easier if Evan talked, or if they offered some give and play as they went along…but she didn’t want it, either. She wanted the weight of obedience, the challenge of it. When she focused on that challenge, everything else faded away. The world became Evan, what he wanted, and how she could be so very strong by proving herself up to any task.

“Then you held me with one hand, you caveman. She fanned her face. “Don’t ever do that again unless we’re somewhere I can drop my panties and show you how much that turned me on.

He kissed her throat. “I’ll be here too. Every night. Every time I have to make questionable judgments. Every time I wonder whether the hours I’m away from you are worthwhile. Our work is dark, he whispered against her ear. “You’ll be my light in the dark, Katsu. My heart and my way home. Every time. From this moment.
Oh, she’d needed that. She wanted to be everything to him, the way he was everything to her.

Faced with Katie Porter’s command for the written word, a hot, alpha Special Ops Marine and a naturally submissive woman, how could I not write a raving review for “Own. A story of love lost, then found again of two people facing their natural instincts and allowing them to weave their lives together of Evan and Katsu facing the past and forging through the future, as one. A love story with a light touch of BDSM, more Dominant/Submissive than hard-core BDSM, Katsu’s fiery spirit and Evan’s dominance had me enthralled.
We are brought through the lives of Katsu and Evan as they both realize what they have longed for throughout their lives. Katsu’s need to be dominated and Evan’s need to OWN. But, being the daughter of his boss holds some challenges that neither one of them are willing to face until the time comes that they realize that they could lose each other.
Evan finally mans-up when he sees Katsu fall apart he finds a way for them to be together and for her to face her fears of him never coming back from a mission. They walk through the darkness of their pasts and find that the light shining through at the end is each other. Mix in some intrigue and secrecy and you have a book that will wish you were the one being “owned by your man. Love finally shines through, Even and Katsu deal with his missions and the Colonel has no recourse but to accept that the man he looks on as his son is in love with the only woman that matters to him, his daughter.

You’ll need an ice pack and a glass of water at all times to cool yourself off with this smoking hot read.
From the very first word to the last, I was engrossed. Katie Porter sure knows how to write a smoking story and this is no exception. Kat knows deep down she is missing something. When Evan, a high school flame who took her virginity, walks back into her life after her dad’s accident, he knows exactly what she needs.
Scenes that are so descriptively given that you cannot only see them in your head, you feel the punishments and rewards as they are delivered in detail. The detail that Porter goes into from a dominant’s perspective as well as the submissive’s, is spot on. The descriptions heat you up, before the good stuff even starts to take place! Turning the next page (and the next and the next) is inevitable to see where these two go.
On top of all the smoking sexual encounters in this book, the plot is magnificently written. Highly secretive missions to keep the world a better place that involve a very sexy Evan, Kat’s father and his team, will keep you wanting more. I wanted to finish it all at once to find out what would happen. Constantly on the edge of my seat (in more ways than one) is the best way to describe this read!

Own was an awesome read. It reminds me of Lexi Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries series. Not the story itself, but the way it encompasses multiple genres. You get romantic suspense, action & adventure, and a contemporary military romance all with a healthy dose of some seriously hot BDSM/erotica. Ms. Porter (the pen name for the collaborative writing efforts of Lorelie Brown and Carrie Lofty) has created a fascinating read that only prior obligations and major exhaustion kept me from reading it in one sitting.

The action & adventure elements of this book keep the storyline moving full-steam ahead. The contemporary military romance and the romantic suspense aspects intertwine to produce plotlines that cannot be reviewed without revealing spoilers (NOTE do NOT read the blurb for book 2 until you have read Own unless you want a spoiler). But it is the way in which Ms. Porter weaves the BDSM/erotica elements throughout the book that probably fascinated me most. I read a LOT of BDSM/erotica books and most of them focus on the D/s relationship. The relationship between Katsu and Evan starts off as a D/s relationship both times. However, the second time around it begins to morph into an M/s relationship. I don’t read many M/s books; not because I don’t like them, but because I haven’t found many authors who can write them successfully. In my opinion, the relationship that Ms. Porter creates between Katsu and Evan captures the dynamic that is necessary to make the Master and slave relationship believable. In their relationship, when Evan takes on the role of Master he is able to give Katsu what she needs to feel whole and vice versa, her following his commands fulfills his need to own a woman, especially a woman he loves and who loves him back. I loved that he considers her his light in the dark world his work takes him.

I have read M/s books that are not only not believable, but the relationship is degrading and abusive and this is the primary reason I don’t read many M/s books. I don’t enjoy humiliation-based reads and a couple of badly written M/s books have put me off the sub-genre for quite a while because it’s not something I want to spend my money on. As such, the opportunity to review Own for free was a risk I was willing to take and I am so glad that I did. Ms. Porter has made a fan out of me and I look forward to working the second book in the Command Force Alpha series, Snap, into my reading schedule as soon as I can. Thank you Ms. Porter for giving me back the M/s sub-genre.

This story was gifted to me in exchange for an honest review by Net Galley.

Katsu Stafford is having a good time at the pool hall hustling a few men and pocketing her winnings when she notices him. Marine Corporate Evan Sommers, her first lover, her first love, she trusted him with everything and he left her for his duty. What the hell could he possibly want from her now; he has been ignoring her for the last three years.

He is still under the command of her father and after that father is attacked Evan’s duty becomes the guarding of Katsu and keeping her safe. This proves very difficult as she wants nothing to do with him and the enemies that went after her father have broken in to her apartment. Her life is at risk and it is his job to keep her safe. He would let no one else do this as he still loves her.

Since their break up her life has not been the same. Her apartment is a mess and her clothing is thrown together. She misses the dominance and guidance that he provided. She misses having somebody take care of her, having somebody to answer for, to explain her actions to and someone to take her to task for not living up to the standards that she is able to.

They fall back into a relationship that she craves. The sex is combustable and frequent. They both love each other and love deeply and passionately. He takes control, she submits. However, the reasons they did not work the first time are still there. He has a career that comes first; she is terrified every time that he needs to go on assignment and he is constantly putting his wants and needs for a career above her. Will they be able to work it out this time? Is there a solution that both of them can live with? The goal would of course be open communication so that both of them know what the other is feeling, wanting and needing. Let’s hope that they are able to open up to one another. I would rate this story a 4/5.

I picked this up because of a promotional deal (or something, I can't remember) and didn't realize until I started reading it that I'm not actually a fan of this author duo.

Fortunately, while it retains the element that makes me not a fan -- the hero having some pre-determined idea about how no woman can ever handle his true self or whatever, to the point where it seems like he has never paid the slightest attention to the woman he's supposedly in love with -- it mostly didn't bother me in here. I think because Katsu was an interesting enough person to overcome Evan's assheadedness.

The thing is, the major thing that was so weird to me throughout the book, is that not only was the heroine's name Katsu, but Evan used -kun as an affectionate honorific when talking with her. (Sometimes spelled -kan.) Katsu is usually a guy's name and -kun is usually used when speaking to guys (-ko for girls) so... The combination of those things made me a little unsure whether the authors had done that intentionally to somehow reference her military father or if they were just making stuff up after watching some anime. The book also seemed unsure whether to describe her as a "Japanese doll" or "not like a Japanese woman" because she has boobs .... seriously weird. She's also half-white (I assume; her father's ethnicity isn't referenced but he has blue eyes and people seem to write white as the unmarked default.) I don't know, man. I support offering more stories about non-white characters, but this wouldn't be something I'd recommend to someone looking for interracial romance. The whole thing borders on Asian fetish fantasy a little too often.

Oh, yeah, and I almost forgot -- the sex. (How I almost forgot given it's 70% of the story, I don't know.) The bdsm stuff is pretty exclusively domination and submission with a little light spanking and very mild bondage.

This is book one in the series. And I intend to read the rest especially if their like this one.
This was a seriously hot and sexy book the story was well written, and omg the lead man in rthis story his description is of one hot and sexy guy and he's military too what more can you ask for but Evan Sommers is also a Dom he jst dose not know it. I degress
Let me tell you about the story this story is about a couple who are clearly natural submissive and dominant trying to find their way into a world they do not know and avoid a threat that is forever present.

When a mission goes south, Colonel Stafford, head of a Elite miltary ops team is injured and from his hospital-bed orders his protégé. Evan to keep the colonel’s daughter, Katsu, safe from retaliation. Should be easy right this could be further from it Four years have passed since his secret affair with sweet, compliant Katsu. Now she’s a streetwise pool shark who refuses to obey any command. He takes her to his home. And Kat resists the need for Evan’s protective shadow, until deadly threats to her safety change things . Her future depends on this hardened soldier, and their sizzling dynamic reveals what Kat’s bland college dating life lacked—a man with the will and desire to tame her. Katsu is a submissive, she needs order in her life. And that is something Evan can provide. yet a real relationship is impossible. Evan is the warrior who could be her Master, but how can she fully submit? The next mission—even the next knock on the door—could rob Kat of the man she loves. Will they find away to cope, so their love can grow have to read to find out.

Faced-paced action, intense emotion and sizzling sex drive this surprisingly thought-provoking erotic military romance.

As entertaining as OWN’s charged surrounding plot is, my reading pleasure truly derived, no surprise, from Evan and Katsu’s intense, angsty and uber white-hot relationship. I relished this steamy tale’s frequent and fabulous sex scenes. Well-written and lengthy, Katie Porter delivers page after page of serious heat. And while I may not have loved some of the things Evan commands Katsu to do, she is no meek slave. Strong-willed and defiant, Katsu routinely questions Evan’s demands as much as she secretly craves his control. I was fascinated by her inner conflict and push back as she acquiesced and participated in acts she took issue with.

Evan is equally troubled by his darker desires and need for absolute control. His ongoing struggle with his inner demons makes for compelling reading, especially when they involve testing and pushing Katsu in the bedroom. But beyond his bona fide sex-god status I found Evan to be too overreaching and bossy to truly love. His required dominion over Katsu goes beyond my tastes. Playful orders are fun for intimacy but there is nothing playful about Evan. He is completely serious when he dresses, collars and “owns Katsu. So for readers who are seeking an unflinching Dominant hero, Evan’s your guy. For those of you, like me, who prefer when dominance is softened, allowing the lovers to meet half-way, you may be disappointed. The only changing Evan does in this story is from filthy fatigues into a suit.

**Short Review**

Previously I have adored anything I've picked up by Katie Porter but ultimately I felt a bit let down by Own.

Katsu and Evan have a rather emotional history. As teenagers they loved with everything they had in them, until the time came for Evan to leave and join an elite group of soldiers. Wanting to shield Katsu from the worry of his lengthy missions, he broke off the relationship and disappeared. A devastated Katsu tried to pick up the pieces and move on yet her anger kept her from ever truly finding closure.

Years later when a mission goes wrong and her father ends up in the hospital Evan shows back up determined to keep her safe while the team figures out who is behind the attack. Katsu is resistant to except any help from Evan because her anger and pride won't allow it. Though her body still yearns for his touch these two fight it continually. In the end I never really felt their connection passed the surface. The D/s aspect didn't feel genuine and there were a few times it even felt a bit degrading.

There was a lot of work put into the threat to Katsu yet when the time came for resolution it was all second hand information. I wanted something to happen in regards to her safety. I wanted a bit of action. I didn't get any. Even leaves her secured, goes and does his job and then comes back to enlighten her on what happened.

Own had all the wonderful components I look for in an erotic romance but I don't think the execution was perfected.

I give Own by Katie Porter 2.75 stars

Katsu's father has been injured in a mission and Evan has been assigned to keep her safe. Years ago they had a brief affair that didn't end well and Katsu's heart was broken. That complicates their arrangement until Evan makes the decision to dominate her. What he doesn't know is that she has already accepted and explored her submissive side. The only problem is that she doesn't completely trust him with her heart after what happened before. She fully expects him to leave her again.

At the same time they are exploring their relationship, there is also the danger that Katsu is in because of who her father is. When her apartment is broken into it leads Evan and her into the battle to make her and everyone else on the team safe.

I so adored Katsu. When we first meet her, she is a tough as nails pool shark and then later we see the glimpse of her softer side in submitting to Evan. Holy hotness! Evan is delicious. He is just realizing his need to dominate, but not just anyone. Only Katsu. And he is one hot Dom.

The action in this story is the backdrop of all that happens within the relationships. From both Katsu and Evan's interactions with her father in the ICU to the moment when they go to the house of a fallen member of the team to help ease the pain of his family.

The is the first book that I've read by these authors and I am totally hooked. I can't wait to read another by them.

I give Own 5 hearts!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I greatly enjoyed this book. There is a good, action-packed, intriguing story that keeps you turning the pages. Evan and Katsu were a brief couple before Evan joined Katsu's father's elite special-ops team. Katsu's father has been shot, so Evan is assigned to keep her safe from any impending threats. I have a hard time saying NO to a military man. Evan is a delicious alpha-male. And I thought that what made this book special was seeing Evan realize that he is a Dom who needs a sub. In so many other books, the male has a history in the lifestyle. Evan may have dabbled in scenarios before, but seeing him come to the realization that is what he needs was fresh. Katsu was already aware of her submissiveness, but you still could see how that came about. I loved how she was portrayed and I found her strength and need for order admirable. I found the sex, and there was a lot of it, to be very well detailed and stimulating. I also loved that the couple's relationship in the book. Their history, I felt, really strengthened what they were able to create upon reconnecting. I will definitely be reading other books in this series.

This book took me a time to really get into, but once the story started to unfold i did enjoy it. I think now that the ground has been laid as to what Command Force Alpha is the next books may be easier to follow.

Own is a erotic military romance, and has some great intense emotion coupled with some fast paced action to keep you on your toes.
Add in that Evan has a need to dominate and Katsu has the opposite need to submit, you have an interesting twist to the story.
Evan and Katsu have this intense, angsty kind of relationship that will keep you enthralled. There is the white hot sexual need that they have together, but then there is this beautiful D/s aspect to the relationship that i found to be very well written. The BDSM element was light in this book, the focus was more on the D/s. Evan has this need to be dominant in most aspects of his life and Katsu fills that need perfectly with her need to be controlled.

I have read books with a similar military thread such as Cristin Harber's Titan series, which is fantastic. So i am hoping that this series will hook me in to it more in the next book.

Amazing. Complex and wonderful main characters. Spies and suspense that felt genuine. Lovely depiction of Dom and sub, the comfort and everything else the right relationship can give. Happy sigh.

Feb 4/18 audiobook listen - 3 stars
I really enjoyed Own when I read the ebook in - gave it 5 stars, in fact. I didn’t enjoy the audio book as much though. I’m not sure if it is because I read Own three years ago and my tastes have evolved, or if the narration didn’t hold my attention. I liked the narrator - her slightly raspy and light Asian accent suited Kat well, and she was able to pull of male voices without pulling me out of the story. So why did I keep falling asleep while listening? I’m not sure. It took me two weeks to get through the audiobook.

Kat and Evan ... alpha vs rebel is definitely how I look at them after reading this book. She is willing to acquiesce to his commands. In return, all she needs is to know he loves her and NEEDS her.

Their relationship has not been a smooth one. Four years ago when she was only 18 years old, she gave him her heart and soul (including her virginity) and then after 6 weeks, he disappeared without a goodbye into Spec Ops, avoiding her since.

With her life being threatened and her father seriously injured it is up to Evan to protect her. Talk about "heat" and "sexual frustration"!

This is the amazing kick-off of a new series Command Force Alpha. The writing is superb and it reads as a thriller with enough suspense to keep you glued to this book until the end!

Kirstin's Review:

Own by Katie Porter 3.5 out of 5 stars

Evan and Katsu have a history together. They had a wild fling years ago until Evan had to leave for special ops training. Then he disappeared and when he came back it was as if nothing had ever happened between them. Of course the fact that Katsu's father is Evan's commanding officer, and both men are involved in some top secret covert missions doesn't help their relationship much either.
Add in Evan's need to dominate and Katsu's need to submit and you have an even more interesting twist to the story.

So, if you like a good D/s discovery romance with some military overtones, this is the book for you.

4.5 stars for this Gem

After a few of my friends read and raved about this I had to see what all the fuss was about. I'm glad I did!

This is a well written love story between Katsu and Evan. I loved all angles of the book including second chance romance, D/s partnership and suspense.

the author did a good job keeping the reader interested in both the D/s relationship as well as the drama and suspense.

It did take me a bit to get into the novel but so don't panic if you aren't in love with it immediately. It also ends just over 90 %.

DNF - There aren't many books that I just don't finish. I normally tough it out and finish it because some times they do get better. However this one did not. By 50% I just never felt a connection to the book. It wasn't holding my attention at all. I'm not really sure why either. I didn't really like the Dom that Evan was. I like D/s relationships that are loving yet passionate. I just felt like Evan used his Dom status to control Katsu too much. Even though it seemed like she enjoyed it. Unfortunately though this scenario just didn't work for me.v

I really liked this book. It is going to be a great series. The story line builds up to the d/s relationship. We get past, present and future of Katsu and Evan. The little glimpse of each character gives enough of stories to be told.

Thank you Samhain Publishing and NetGalley for ARC.

Got to 71% and the realised that I didn't actually care what happened with Katsu and Evan. There will be lots of fans of BDSM erotica who enjoy this book, but it didn't keep me interested. It has high quality writing and editing, however.

Audio Book - This is one of those books that I definitely prefer as an audio book vs. electronic read.

Good story balanced with great characters, but lacking something the held me back from connecting emotionally as the story evolved.
