I love Bindle. I love the picture these stories give of the life of the working classes pre-war, I love the hideous religiosity of Mrs Bindle, I love Millikins. Yes, there is some language to make the modern reader cringe, but nothing unkind. It's lightweight but with truth in it.

Not for the cynical or the modernist or the easily shocked. I swallowed it practically at one gulp and loved it.
