A steamy marriage of convenience romance about two friends striking a deal to save a billion-dollar company, and quickly find themselves blurring the lines between pretending and real love as they unravel the scandals set to tear them apart.
Be loud. Lean in. Take your seat at the head of the table. I want the whole room to know that when my wife speaks, it’s time to sit down and listen.
Thanks to my reckless roommate, I’m about two skips away from being homeless. Temp jobs aren’t paying the bills, and now I have to cancel the scuba diving trip I can no longer afford.
At least I’ll be spared from my instructor’s tempting smile and rock-hard abs. Dex is wonderful, but he’s only ever treated me like a friend…a really good friend. In fact, when he hears I’m having money problems, he comes up with a way we can help each other.
In a clever scheme to ensure her jaded, love-doubting grandson didn’t end up alone, Dex’s grandma left her company to Dex’s…wife. Except he isn’t married. Until me, that is.
Now I’m suddenly the CEO and majority shareholder of a billion-dollar cruise corporation. I’m unprepared, and the sharks in the boardroom are scarier than the great whites in the water. But the plan is simple. Play the part for a year, hand the company back over to Dex, then get divorced. Easy. In exchange, I’ll never have to worry about money again.
But it’s not long before I realize the company is in danger and a lot of people need my help. And now that I’m acting like the boss, there’s a look in Dex’s eyes I’ve never seen before. Something more than friendly Because when he calls me “wife lately, it doesn't seem like it's for show.
Kay Cove’s Snapshot: Lessons in Love delivers a passionate and heartfelt romance, intertwining the thrill of a high-stakes marriage of convenience with the deeper exploration of love, ambition, and personal growth. The story dives into the tangled lives of two friends whose seemingly practical arrangement evolves into an unexpected, emotional journey.
The plot centers on Dex, a billionaire suddenly faced with the stipulation that his grandmother’s cruise company can only be his if he’s married. Enter Lennox, his long-time friend struggling with financial uncertainty, who agrees to pose as his wife for a year. What starts as a calculated plan to secure the business quickly unravels into something much more intense as they navigate not only the demands of a corporate empire but also the growing romantic tension that threatens to blur the lines between make-believe and reality.
The dynamic between Dex and Lennox crackles with chemistry from the very beginning. Cove masterfully creates a slow-burn connection, rich in flirtation and lingering glances, that pulls readers in. Their transition from friends to something deeper feels genuine, with every shared moment revealing the evolving layers of their bond. The individual character arcs are equally compelling, as Dex transforms from a carefree bachelor into someone confronting the weight of his family legacy, while Lennox steps into her power, rising to the challenge of leading a billion-dollar company.
The novel’s strength lies in its ability to tackle themes of self-esteem and defying expectations. Both characters struggle with doubts—Dex with living up to his grandmother’s legacy and Lennox with proving herself in a world that questions her capabilities. Their personal growth adds depth to the story, making their relationship journey all the more satisfying. The corporate drama also plays a key role, raising the stakes and allowing Lennox’s resilience to shine as she faces off against boardroom politics.
For those who enjoy romance with substance, Snapshot: Lessons in Love offers a perfect blend of passion, plot twists, and empowerment. The steamy moments are tastefully crafted, enhancing the emotional intensity without overshadowing the story’s heartfelt message. With witty dialogue and a layered narrative, Cove brings to life a story where love isn’t just about desire but about finding strength and courage in the face of life’s complexities.
Overall, Snapshot: Lessons in Love is a captivating read that satisfies on multiple levels—romance, intrigue, and personal transformation. It’s a book for anyone who enjoys a love story where the heat is matched by depth and the stakes are sky-high.
A huge thanks to NetGalley and Victory Editing for providing this steamy romance's digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest opinions.
Why did no one tell me Friends-to-lovers has such incredible chemistry? 3.75 💫 Lennox and Dex were made for each other. They're the perfect kind of friends who naturally fall into the perfect type of relationship.
For once, the marriage of convenience actually makes sense, as the reason behind it is well-curated. I loved the Dottie-Jacob backstory that pulled all of this together. I couldn't put the book down.
I did feel some things were missing, or maybe that was my wishful thinking.
So spoilers ahead: 1) With how many letters Dottie wrote, I expected there would be one more for Len and Dex, and I needed that parting word from her after everything she pulled and left.
2) I love that Lennox is not painted to be a hero who snags it up and fits perfectly. This makes it all the more natural. But I do believe we missed out on her smart ideas and the spirit she brings to the company.
3) I wanted a fight. Dex is such a smooth-talking puppy for our FMC, but she messed up quite a lot, even with their friendship. Fights are healthy. Show me anger; don't baby her.
4) Denny was fishy from the start. I knew it the second she said, "Why didn't you run it by me?" So, I also wanted to see the conflict take its shape correctly, even though there were other pawns.
I did enjoy this book quite a lot, and it's clear that what I felt was missing was very subjective to what I would want, not necessarily that they were missing from the story itself.
I have received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Sometimes you find a new romance author you connect with immediately. Her characters and their development. The story that she tells. Everything you are looking for in a romance is there.
This story is told from several POV’s so we get a well-rounded story that includes a billionaire, family requirements and secrets, and even a splash of mystery.
Best friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes and Cove knocked it out of the park. The characters are awesome together and Dex is so patient and kind even when she makes huge mistakes that could take them down.
I Love Love Love that there is no 3rd act breakup. I seriously HATE when authors use that. Love is about working together, not chasing someone. Cove gets that all over this story!
The family ties and requirements are woven throughout the book and get dicey at a time or two. Dex has a wonderful soul and that is represented in the best ways in Snapshot.
I have so much love for this one. These two are perfect together A little spice. A little sass. And a whole lot of relationship goals. I cannot wait for more from this author!

SUPER honest review i’m so sorry some spoilers but no major ones OKAY so. I had a lot of issues with this lol and I love to dnf books but I was honesty so upset with how the book was going because I really did like the beginning that it was like watching a car crash which is SO frustrating because I really like this author and think they are a good writer but there was so many misses in this book - there was basically no relationship growth in this book? like they went from being friends to being married for convenience to wanting to be together for the rest of their lives in the matter of a few hours and then their relationship literally did not grow or progress after that the entire book - I HATE how Lennox is made out to be stupid and gullible and no one is talking about how Dex is the one at fault?? He brought her into this mess and then quite literally abandoned her in shark infested waters. Like really that was the best you could do to support your supposed love of your life?? spare me hell no OF COURSE Lennox messed up she’s never been in that type of elite/high corporate setting and if the thing Dex loves about her is her heart he should have KNOWN and EXPECTED her to not always realize when people were being disingenuous. Like she was nervous and desperate for connection AFTER HE LEFT HER TO FIGURE THIS SHIT OUT BY HERSELF and the only people being nice to her wanted to use her SURPRISE SURPRISE SHE TRUSTED THE WRONG PEOPLE - I thought there would be a subplot about Lennox finding her career path and what she wants to do but for 95% of the book she was left to sit there and be a place holder and when she DID try to talk to Dex MULTIPLE TIMES he would brush her off. - again expecting a subplot of her family- Dex never went to see her parents even though twice they talked about him doing so? he bailed out both times:) and then we never hear more about her dad? like I was expecting his name to get cleared or for dex to use some of his billions of dollars to actually help lennox out and clear her dads name - SO confused why there was a dive shop on Las Vegas and not somewhere on the coastline? and how was this supposed to be a major plot line yet it seemed like a forgotten storyline that was mentioned frivolously and the first time they ACTUALLY dived when in the epilogue??? - Literally the ratio of scenes where they had meaningful conversations rather than an unneeded and poorly timed sex scene was horrendous.
Lennox as a ceo was so frustrating to read. How hard is it to keep your mouth shut about gossip or work related items. Especially to people you don’t know or to people you dont trust. She mentioned a few times that she didn’t trust Denny or got a weird vibe from her. How about you hold your cards close to your chest when around her.
Dex was fine. Nothing wrong with him, just seemed like he only was interested in sex with Lennox after they got married. Just a tad boring. I did like how we were able to see part of their relationship from the beginning.
Although I really enjoyed Lennox and Dex, I felt that the story was a bit discombobulated. I’m not sure if it was a lack of investment on my part or that the book itself was a bit too long. I felt that at times, the plot moved super slow. Other times, especially with the reveals about Dex’s family, I enjoyed it but felt it was a lot of plot points trying to run together.
Kay is one of my favorite authors (and still is), I’m more shocked than anything that I didn’t fall head over heels for this book. Camera Shy was a masterpiece and this was a very anticipated read for me. It almost felt like this book was written by a different author. I am wondering if it’s completely out of left field to think that her attention was pulled in two different directions trying to write and release both Tattletale and Snapshot around the same time.
Conspiracies aside, the book was not bad and there were parts I did enjoy. It just didn’t have the typical Kay flair that I am always ranting about when it comes to her other books. I am, however, honored to be able to read and review Kay’s ARCs. I have no doubt that me not falling head over heels for one of her books will remain in the minority when it comes to Kay
Why is no one talking about how Len just went and spilled confidential information and personal things about herself to strangers she just met without double checking their identity?? And once she realized that, did she tell Dex about it for immediate damage control? No. They had sex. I honestly believed girl would grow some sense after trusting the wrong person once. But no. There are so many things about this book that bothered me, I don’t even have it in me to list them all. Dottie and Jacob’s story was definitely more interesting than the main couple tho.
5⭐️ - I am thrilled to be an ARC reader for Snapshot, the second book in Kay Cove’s Lessons in Love series. If Kay writes it, I know it’s going to be a love story to remember.
“It feels like my favorite memory. Like I returned to a home I didn’t even know I had.
“…love is an innate force behind our will and comprehension. It’s how the universe humbles the stubborn human race, hellbent on forging destructive new paths. Love is how the universe stays in control of our fates.
Tropes:
💙friends to lovers 💙office romance 💙marriage of convenience 💙secret billionaire
I don’t typically read these tropes, but Kay writes them so well that I’m now a fan. I fell in love with Lennox and Dex’s story. You can too on October 22nd on KU and paperback.
Highly recommend you read Camera Shy, book 1, first - but it isn’t absolutely necessary.
This is the second book of this series and it did not disappoint. You can read it as a standalone, but I recommend you read book one because it’s amazing!
What a sweet, feel-good, and spicy book. Dex and Lennox fought their chemistry, passion, and love for years.
Their chemistry was explosive, hot and at the same time so sweet!
Dex is the perfect combination of naughty and sweet and he was just perfect 😍 You will fall in love with Dex from the moment he opens his mouth.
Lennox is such a relatable character, she is sweet, and caring and the way she loves Dex through the highs and the lows is beautiful.
The spice was hot and so well written. The mouth of this man is sinful. 😏
I loved this book, I can’t wait for the next book.
Two couples. Two love stories. How love can be more powerful than all the money in the world.
Dex Hessler is the Director of Operations of the largest cruise ship conglomerate in the world while rising up to become the CEO. He’s a billionaire and has spent his entire life being groomed to be on top.
While forced to a break from his workforce by his grandma, he owns and operates a dive shop in Las Vegas managing diving lessons. Here he meets Lennox, a woman who’s still finding herself, job to job, has debt up the ass but a genuine and amazing person. A friendship strikes. For three years these two force themselves in a friend zone despite both having feelings the definitely are more than friendly
I’m having such a hard time riding review for this book because there’s so many layers to the story with different characters. But it is so freaking beautiful and touching. You have one couple who missed their chance at a true love relationship and you have another couple who want to become more than just friends, but there’s just some obstacles they need to figure out first. This story literally grasped my heart for the entire ride. You get all the fun banter, friends, to lovers, marriage of convenience, spice, angst, no third act break up, fish out of water trope, two people from opposite sides of the track trope Office romance Grandma knows best And an HEA
Kay Cove is one my top favorite contemporary romance authors and I will always recommend her books to anyone that loves well written love stories.
After having read “Camera Shy so many times (and having enjoyed each and every one of them), I’m so so sorry that I have to give this book a 3-star review. I didn’t sympathise with the main characters at all and the love story between Dex and Len did not convince me either. The expectations were truly high for “Snapshot after the breathtaking story that “Camera Shy presented. Yet, I cannot give it more than 3 stars (and I’m being generous, to be honest).
If you like to read friends to lovers with marriage of convenience then you should try this ~
I liked this book a lot. I was quite hooked on the plot. The description of Miami and Vegas, the chemistry between the MCs, and the mystery were quite on point. I felt like crying while reading the letters Dottie wrote to Jacob. The plot was a bit draggy at a few points. Overall, this book is quite a nice experience.
This is an ARC read which is exchanged with an honest review.
4 Trouble stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ For the half that was not slow burn: 3.5🌶
I adored the 1 book (Camera shy) but this one..idk..something was missing, for me! Dotie is the reason for the 4 ⭐️ 😐, otherwise it would have been a 3.5⭐️ book for me.
I like the writing I liked the story idea. Liked the characters. But I kinda feel like, it still was too early. She made it sound like a proper slowburn on the back. And not like a insta friends to lovers romance.
I didn’t think that they would fall for each other so quick and with no yearning. So that was kind of a bummer honestly. And while I did like Lennox, I definitely think that she was way too naive. A lot of things were very predictable.
The biggest problem with this book was that it told me instead of showed me how close they were as friends. Their relationship progression then didn't feel genuine and didn't evoke the proper emotions in my opinion, so I felt off kilter most of the time.
The organization of the plot wasn't great in the first half. You don't even know they're (supposedly) close friends until ~18% of the book. The story would've been helped by chronological storytelling instead of flashbacks. The first half felt both rushed and slow. Disorienting all around.
The sex scenes, especially the first one, felt cheap. Felt more like a ONS than "omg we've loved each other forever and can be together now." Honestly, I'm tired of the BDSM-adjacent stuff. I can't take anything seriously anymore when it's there. And at this point I could write an entire book about how women should be more offended by how anal sex is portrayed in media. "the most invigorating sensation I’ve ever felt," says Dex. No, sir, that honor should always be her vagina, thank you very much. A butthole should not be considered implicitly or explicity a more special place to bone the love of your life.
I also had a hard time with Alan. It's great and all that she wanted to mature and choose better mates for herself, but she did it at the expense of this guy who deserves so much better (especially someone who can friggin communicate their needs!). She also was in love with another man the entire time.
Lennox was an idiot in the second half, but that's Dex's fault for not preparing her one iota for her new life and position.
And finally... Dex didn't bother to call security either time he fired a hostile employee, and that was laughable. Let them just wander the building, I guess.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Snapshot was such a beautiful story and I absolutely loved it. It contains some of favorite tropes such as slow burn, friends to lovers, us against the world, secret identity and marriage of convenience
The dedication sets the tone for the whole book, “this one is for every single woman who was told to calm down, stop meddling, take up less space and be a little quieter. Here’s a bullhorn. Use it often.
This was such a let down. I thought we were going to see Len as a boss who's able to execute awesome plans. Instead she was going around talking and trusting people. To put it plainly, she was dumb. Who goes around just spilling private information to strangers?????? Dex never even wanted to listen, just sex. This had so much potential and now I'm pissed cause I stayed up all night for this.
I really enjoyed this book! It was the perfect book to get me out of a slump. It had the perfect pacing, the perfect characters, a fun storyline, and it kept me interested throughout.
Both of the main characters definitely went through quite the journey and so many of their own hardships but I was so glad to see how they always could rely on each other even when it would have been easy to distance themselves.
I loved hearing more about Dottie and I feel like she still had so many secrets to uncover. I also wanted to learn more about Jacob. Their connection seemed so special and I loved reading about it through the letters.
I love how this story had a few different plot points but they all intertwined perfectly to make one cohesive story with some anticipation.
Also, I may be biased because I am a scuba diver but it was so fun to see scuba diving talked about throughout this book and that’s something that I never really see.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and if you have ever been a fan of billionaire or marriage of convenience romances, I think you should pick this one up.
p.s. while this is a part of a series, I think you could read this one without reading Camera Shy and it would still make sense and not spoil too much ( I definitely recommend Camera Shy too though).
Tropes: - marriage of convenience - billionaire - secret identity - friends to lovers - dual pov - first person
I really need to figure out where Kay Cove has found the inspiration for her MMC's because I need to move there!!
How about a secret billionaire that's billionaire with a B and a creative, speaks her mind and is still trying to figure out what she wants to do when she grows up. That is what lies in the pages of Snapshot, plus a whole bunch of twists and a secret that's been hidden for generations. This is a love story with an HEA but there's a lot each MC has to go through to get to there. Lennox and Dex's love story started way before they even knew it and uncover secrets neither of them would expect, and a very special person I believe brings them together.
Tropes: - Marriage of convenience - Friends To Lovers - Boss Babe in the making - Obsessed MMC - Double Life - Billionaire - Workplace Romance - Contemporary Romance - Empowering Women - Feisty FMC - Golden Retriever MMC unless you mess with his wife
TW's: - Secrets - Mansplaining - Language - Sexually Explicit Scenes - Infidelity - Love Child - Death of a loved one - Death of a parent - Accusations of shady business deals - Defamation Of Character (Not by MC's) - Threats - Jealousy
There’s so much I love about this book, it’s absolutely perfect!
I’m a sucker for a good friends to lovers book and this one was definitely it!
Dex and Lennox had instant chemistry and I loved that it wasn’t a friends to lovers where they all of a sudden were attracted to each other or had feelings for each other they both had feelings instantly and they only grew as their friendship grew.
-friends to lovers -marriage of convenience -hidden identity -billionaire romance
in true kay fashion we got so much more than just a romance here! the plot was riveting & the twists were GASPINGGGG!! i couldn’t stop reading!! but also we still got that steamy steamy heat we all know & love!!
Kay is an expert at writing and capturing your full attention. I loved this novel, the characters, and Dottie above everything else. I just wanted to see her and Jacob together for the last time because her personal story broke my heart. However, I believe they actually met in that gazebo in the afterlife.
I enjoyed reading this book! It's also a bit predictable and I would've loved it even more if we have more scenes of them from the past. I want to see them pining for each other and getting jealous over their partners. But anyway, their interactions are still cute and had me giggling too!
I'm also curious about Dottie and Jacob's story. But that bonus epilogue more than made up for it. At least they get to have a second chance in (the after) life.
Honestly, I think I liked this one more than Camera Shy.
Dex is a billionaire who is taking a sabbatical from his family's company and living in Las Vegas. His grandmother passes away and now Dex must get married in order to take over the company. Lennox (she is Finn's cousin from Camera Shy) is Dex's best friend and is struggling financially. Enter marriage of convenience.
I love their easy friendship, the banter and the obvious love, respect, and trust between the two of them. The tension and slow burn was perfect.
omg I have been waiting for this one for a while now!!! after I read camera shy in May I was hyped to know that there was another one coming. this follows Lennox and Dex. Lennox is Finn's cousin and we briefly met Dex in Camera Shy as the wealthy man who lived next door to Finn.
len and dex have been friends since the day he moved to Las Vegas from Miami. he is living a low-key life because his grandmother told him to go over there and just enjoy life until it was his turn to take over the reins of the company. here he meets Lennox. he is obviously attracted to her but he does not want to mess anything up so they stay friends for years until one day Lennox is in a bind where she loses her boyfriend, her job, and the place she lives. dex is also in a bind because his grandmother has just passed away and in the reading of her will it is said that he must be married and his wife will be the CEO until the year has passed then the position will be given to dex. hence the marriage of convenience for both. as soon as they get married it's like a bomb goes off they confess to each other that they have always had strong feelings for each other but they did not want to mess up the friendship or lose each other.
I loved len and dex so much. they truly are soulmates. the dual timelines. learning about his grandmother and why she did what she did and the big mystery and the plot twist omg. I am so excited to see what the next one is!!!!
tropes: - friends to lovers - marriage of convenience - double life - billionaire romance - obsessed MMC
4⭐️—This book is so good and absolutely adorable. Dex and Lenny are so good together. They are the definition of opposites attract in all the right ways! Their chemistry is off the charts!
I love how this story starts as a friends to lovers but also turns into a marriage of convenience BUT I did find it was a little different then most marriage of convenience books that I read and I thought it was so unique!
No third act breakup, a little bit of found family, spice off the charts 📈.
