It’s an interesting book that I would recommend to indie authors.
Though much of the book is common knowledge among indie authors I think it is always a good idea to check up on what other experts suggest. Personally I liked author Penny C. Sansevieri’s elaborations about searching for keywords best. Though I knew about how to search Amazon’s categories, I had never heard of “Übersuggest. The entire chapter is well researched, excellently illustrated, and very interesting. I believe that the more the Internet advances the more important is all kinds of information about keywords, googling etc. because let’s face it, these processes get more automatized, author need to know how it works.
However, I totally disagree with this author‘s email template for book review requests. Three of four sentences begin with the word “I, that’s just not good e-mail writing. Also, as an Amazon top reviewer I can say with certainty that no reviewer or blogger cares about the name of the publisher. To any reviewer the most important information is info about the book. The phrase “You can learn more about my book… is not well chosen. When I receive emails like this I think, “How about you tell me? You are the author. Please don’t make me work. Authors need to understand the reviewer’s point of you. Top reviewers get anywhere from 1-200 review request per day; they do not have the time to scan between 1-200 webpages to find out what’s special about an author’s book. The author is supposed to tell the reviewer.
Most OUTSTANDING is the chapter “Thank you for reading. Just today I talked to an author who said, she never thought about that. ‘nuf said, it’s extremely relevant.
Penny C. Sansevieri completes this book with an detailed description of goodreads. Since I keep hearing from authors that they have trouble with goodreads this chapter may be among the most valuable in this book.
The book contains also a very nice directory of websites where authors can post their books. Though not all genres are covered I think it’s very well done.
Though every author already knows that doing everything that’s mentioned in this book won’t turn your book into a 24/7 sales machine, every author should do all of the mentioned or his/her book will be buried among the millions of other eBooks, completely. Definitively recommended.
After I saw Penny Sansevieri do a webinar on book marketing, I bought her book, 5-Minute Book Marketing for Authors, and thought it was packed with great ideas. So I was excited about receiving a review copy of “How to Sell Books by the Truckload on Amazon and she did not let me down.
Easy to read and packed with information, this book breaks down every element of what it takes to sell books on Amazon. The steps are illustrated with screen shots. She explains the nuances of adjusting your approach depending on whether your book is fiction or nonfiction.
The process is not difficult, but it takes some time and serious effort. (Oh, if only reading the book were all it took to make the sales happen!) But, she says, once you do the initial work, the maintenance needed to keep your sales up is fairly easy.
The book ends with some valuable bonus resources that are worth checking out.
My advice: Read the book all the way through from start to finish, then go back and set up your implementation plan.
Back your Hemi right on back and fill your truck bed with the best information for promoting your book. This book gives you the nitty-gritty about marketing both fiction and non-fiction.
It’s the equivalent of having your personal marketing expert working for you. The downside you’ve got to learn the ropes and do it yourself.
I’d love an app that embodies everything this book describes but we all know advertising isn’t stagnant, always moving forward. Yet, you can benefit today from using these carefully researched and proven marketing techniques.
Get ready for a mind-blowing experience! Follow this author to keep abreast of the changing marketing environment. Thanks, Penny!
This is a two book set. The first book focuses on strategies to sell more books on Amazon. As many others in this genre do, it provides advice on choosing niche categories, using search tools to select high-traffic keywords and including keywords in your book description and title. This is definitely more helpful for nonfiction authors than fiction authors, as a few of the suggestions on keywords seem a bit dubious for fiction.
The second book focuses on how to get more book reviews. If you are looking for advice on how to pitch large and/or traditional media sources, you will find everything you need. Likewise, pitching book bloggers, Amazon reviewers, and Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ reviewers are also covered. The writing of this book seemed to favor traditionally published authors, though independent authors could use the strategies, too.
Overall, this set was a quick read (an hour and a half) and did not mince words. While I did pick up a few good tips, I don't think I would recommend it to fiction or independent authors. They can find the same (and more useful) instruction in the nonfiction of Nick Stephenson, David Gaughran, and Joanna Penn.
Having just published my 8th book, I was really hoping to avoid the mistakes of the past. However there are two distinct ways of learning. The first is to avoid what you did wrong but the second and perhaps more important is to explore new ways to sell. That is why I purchased Penny Sansevieri's work 'How to sell books by the truckload.' This tiny e-book is packed with information that is invaluable to new authors. Being a bit of a veteran in the publishing landscape I already knew about half the tips presented but there were so many more that were new to me. The way I see it, if you buy a cheap e-book and get one really solid, workable idea then it was worth the purchase. In this case I probably got ten solid ideas that I immediately put into practice.
As for my sales since using these ideas? Let's just say that I'm reaching a wider audience than I had previously considered. Just the list of websites that allow for free listings of your e-book can open you up to a whole new world of readers. Thank you Penny!
Book 1 take away: remember Amazon is a search engine, and practice good SEO
Book 2 is probably more geared to brand new authors who are unfamiliar with the book blogging/reviewing scene -- but definitely recommended for newbies.
Presumably the answer would be to palletise them. No?
A pretty good book. Some obvious stuff, but overall some solid advice on doing a better job of marketing your books. Many of the techniques are much easier for non-fiction books, I suspect.
A lot of good information in this book. Reading it was like taking a refresher course on the dos and do nots of book promotion, but with the addition of useful links to various Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ pages and groups, and to some book reviewer's blogs. Thank you!
This book is like a little bible of book sales help. It is hard enough writing a book and now we have to market it, too! Lots of great help and I highly recommend.
A good how to book, but if you've read a lot of them, most of this will be nothing new. I do like Penny Sansevieri a lot and this would be valuable to someone just starting out.
