Ryker

I’m not sure what to expect after being away from Tempest for over a year, but the once thriving realm has deteriorated beneath the leadership of its new ruler.

I made a promise to my dead king to look over Tempest if something happened to him, but after surviving Doomed Valley, I’m done with politics and war.

Until unexpected events change everything.

Ellery

I don’t always have the best ideas, but when I donned a hood to steal from the rich and give to the poor, I thought I was doing the right thing—until I made the mistake of robbing the son of a duke.

Forced to work with Ryker to hunt for me, my biggest worry is keeping the truth of my identity from him. That is until our new king unleashes something terrible on Tempest.

With everything crumbling around me, I only feel safe with one immortal the man who is the biggest threat to my freedom.

Return to the Shadow Realms. A world where immortals unleash lightning, dark fae seduce, witches cast their spells, dragons rule the skies and the legend of Robin Hood comes alive in a new way.

I’d normally give this book around 3⭐️, but it sucked me in so hard that I’m rounding up to 4. The writing was annoyingly repetitive, but I ate the story up (even though there were no real sunrises or anything). I plan to read the rest of the series, but the 3rd book comes out next month, so I will wait til the release date is closer before I begin the 2nd.

A Tempest of Shadows is the first book in the series and the story continues in the following books.
It is a spin-off from the Shadow Realms series, while you do not need to read those books before this one, I would highly recommend reading the last two Shadow Realm books to understand the powers/ world and have a good insight into Ryker.

I love Ryker, I don’t think there’s a hero written by Davies that fails to make me swoon or that I don’t fall for. He’s hot, swoony, brave and has many layers to him. I felt very protective of him and loved him so much because of his backstory in Secrets of Ruin. His relationship with Tucker and his horse made me so happy.

However, I really struggled to like Ellery to begin with and while eventually I did end up liking her, it took a long time which I think was due to how she treated Ryker at the beginning and all of her lies. It also took me until chapter 61 (there are 93 chapters for context) to start to enjoy this book. Once I did get into it, I really liked it.

The other problem for me was the plot and I never thought I’d say this about a Brenda K Davies book. My problems with the plot is that sometimes the writing was repetitive and while the book was fascinating, not very much happened throughout it. I didn’t like how by the end of the story he still didn’t know about her powers or that she was the Hooded Robber.

I liked the idea that this was a Robin Hood retelling. As always the world building was phenomenal and very interesting. I have so many questions! And the heat in this book? 🥵🔥
I’m pretty I will enjoy the next book more (I didn’t dislike it, it just wasn’t as good as some other Brenda K Davies books) and this one was just a bit slow because it was setting up a new series.

This book does mention triggering content such as war, death, past childhood abuse, past torture and imprisonment.

Plot: 📚📚📚📚
Character rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
World building: 🌎🌎🌎🌎
Sexiness: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Feels: 🖤🖤🖤🖤

Welcome back to the Shadow Realms. I was so excited when I heard that Ms. Davies was writing a spin- off of the Shadow Realms series! I am happy to say that I was not disappointed! She’s done it again, a real page turner!

It has everything you can imagine that a fantasy, immortals, powerful beings, witches, dark fae and of course DRAGONS! This story tells a tale of a hooded robber who steals from the rich and gives to the poor, it is a twist on the story of Robin Hood.

We follow Ryker as he returns to Tempest from the Ghoul Wars, when he is robbed. He is determined to find out the identity of the hooded robber.

Ellery is a woman that Ryker met years ago, now their paths have crossed again, the two of them set out together to solve the mystery. But what Ryker doesn’t know is that Ellery is the hooded robber. Now she has to help him to uncover the truth while trying to keep her secret from him.

Things begin to fall apart in Tempest and Ellery has to rely on Ryker, the person who is trying to take her down, to help save her. What will happen when Ryker finds out the truth? Will he find out the truth? Will he forgive her? Will he help save her? You will need to read the book(s) to find out! You will not regret it.

What an intro to this new realm. Thought I liked Ryker before but holy heck is he fire. His chest of money taken by the hooded robber while not paying attention 😉 He should have known better.
Ryker struggles trying to keep
His promise to King Leo and take
care of Tempest. However new King Ivan has other plans.
After the war and doomed valley how much worse could it get 🤔
Ellery was pretty much voluntold to help Ryker find the hooded robber. She was absolutely taking no prisons in the Revenant woods. She played in them as a child. Oh things are about to get interesting. Side note~the interaction between her and Farley had me laughing.
Well things turned around real fast and not for the better. It went from bad to worse in the blink of an eye. The King is horrible. Rykers dad is ruthless. And so begins our journey through the shadows lands newest realm to explore. Bring on book 2. I’m so ready.

Oh my goodness, this story is exciting and sexy. The characters are well developed. Ellery is such an awesome female lead. Tough, kind, caring, gentle, soft hearted. Just brilliant. She stand up for herself and others. Ryker.oh Ryker. Fans self as I try to find right words for him. Tough, at times cruel. He has been through so much, horrific things. He’s come back home to a very different place. Broke my heart reading the suffering the people have and are going through. This is a retelling or a different version of Robin Hood, enough said. We have a hate relationship between Ellery and Ryker. But wait folks, things change and the heat begins. But, a big twist at the end and your heart will break. Now, I await the next book. I highly recommend this book. Grab it, the weekend approaches. Stay indoors in the A/C, grab a drink and get lost. You’re welcome.

MUST READ. DEVOURED THIS BOOK.

Oh Ryker. I thought he was right up my street in the Shadow Realms but now I’m booking the church.
The chemistry between him and Ellery is lightning.
Having had his money stolen Ryker is on the lookout for the Robber.
Ellery is sick of watching everyone in the towns struggle for food after having to pay such high taxes. She takes matters into her own hands and takes from the rich to give back to the needy.
She has a few big secrets that need to be kept.
Ryker has made a promise to his murdered king and best friend and even though it’s taken some time for him to get to grips with losing him, he intends to follow through on that promise.
Can Ellery keep her secrets?
Can Ryker catch his thief and help Tempest?
Read this fantastic book to find out.

Exciting, and Intriguing

Always exciting, and intriguing to start a new book series from Brenda K. Davies, and what an exciting start. As always, totally amazing writing, creativity, and imagination. It sucks you right in, and you just want more as you get to the end. The Robin Hood ( The Hooded Robber ) theme is new, fresh, and amazing. Ryker has returned to Tempest as his former king had asked him to. He gets robbed in his carriage on his way to his fathers house by the Hooded Robber, and is determined to find the robber by hiring Ellery who he had met years before to help him navigate the dangerous forest to find this Hooded Robber. Did the Hooded Robber make a mistake in robbed Ryker? Intriguing new characters, and beings within the dangerous forest. The world building is brilliant as always. I can’t wait for the 2nd book.

Brenda K Davies does it again with another phenomenal book. I’ll admit I never read or watched much of the stories of Robin Hood but I do know the gist of the story. This is a twisted tale of that. We first met Ryker in the shadow of realms series and this is his own story. This book is about Ryker and Ellery. Ryker is the version of Robin Hood he is on his way back to tempest when he gets robbed so he sets out to find out who it is and he ends up getting help from Ellery who has a secret of her own that she would prefer for him to not find out. Tempest is starting to fall apart and they must do what they can to stop it. Will she be able to keep it hidden or will he come to learn the truth? I absolutely loved this book I had a hard time putting it down. You will not be disappointed. It definitely is a page turner!!

A Tempest of Shadows is a spin off series from the Shadow Realms. I really loved reading Ryker and Ellery's story. This also kind of gave me the Robin Hood vibe, but in this book Ellery is sort of portraying characteristics of Robin. Ellery is stealing from the rich to give back to the poor. Ryker, who has been away for many years, returns to a realm that is barely hanging on and is being destroyed by the king. When these two meet, the chemistry between them is undeniable. However, they come from different social hierarchies which will put their love to the test. This book was such an adventure with lots of twists and turns, I highly recommend reading it. I received an ARC and agreed to leave an honest review. I can't wait for the next book!!!!

Immortal beings, fantasy realms, Magical powers, and a read that is similar to Robin Hood with some delightful ghostlings and characters similar to ones from Casper or Harry Potter, and also gives you that building romance of force proximity between MCs like current releases such as Fourth Wing and To Kill a Shadow...
A spinoff series from her last series The Shadow Realms. Brenda K Davies, brings a whole new life to God of thunder with the MMC Ryker, and lets readers see what Lady Marian of Robin Hood would of been if she was the main character and not the damsel within the FMC Ellery.
After reading just book one of this new series, I cannot wait to see how things play out for these two characters.

For those that have read and loved Brenda Davies Shadow Realms series, this new spin off follows Ryker’s story after capture by the Ophidians and King Leo’s death. After returning to his own realm he is completely disconnected, drowning himself in booze and women until he’s robbed by the mysterious Hooded Robber and becomes obsessed with finding him for reasons that change through the book.

We have Brenda’s signature slow burn romance and alpha male who finds himself protecting “his female before he even realizes he’s doing it. Ellery is in a bit of a jam because she feels she can’t tell Ryker her secrets and caves to the pressures of Ryker’s domineering father.

This should be a great series as we await Brenda’s HEA at the end.

A Tempest of Shadows takes place in Tempest, one of the Shadow Realms and features Ryker Locke, a fierce character in Secrets of Ruin and Ellery, a young woman of hidden talents.

Author Brenda K Davies imagined a world and characters that kept me deeply engaged. Tempest has a variety of places filled with creatures, dead, alive, human and monsters, but not all are what you think they may be. There are plenty of emotions that may have you shuddering with sympathetic fear or possibly lighting the flame of desire.

This can be read as a stand alone if you haven't yet read any of the other Shadow Realms books.

This new series set in Tempest takes us on a thrilling ride as we get to know Ryker. Not gonna lie, I was drawn to him when we met him in Doomed Valley. I love a broody alpha and man does he sizzle! I also love a good fairy tale and Davies delivers with her Robin Hood twist especially when the tables turn. Here we find our main FMC Ellery as the hooded robber. Bring on the adventure as Ryker and Ellery are tasked with finding said robber (yeah, I know!) and freeing the people of Tempest from the tyranny of the king. The healing journey of Ryker’s return and his relationship with Ellery are quite the ride and I’m excited to see what happens in the next book.

Robin Hood. Swiss Family Robinson. The Last Airbender. What do these have to do with the other? They’re all pieces of this craftily written story of an individual who wields elemental powers and strives to look out for the downtrodden and needy. Throw in a dash of true crime where the “criminal is enlisted in guiding the search for themself. As usual, Brenda does an amazing job of reeling you into the thick of adventure, full of danger, shocking surprises & secrets, and quite a few laughs and leaves you wanting more. I kid you not. Once I’d finished the story, I had a half a mind to send a formal request for the next book. Stat.

Tempest of Shadows was one of my favorite books yet! This book was very Robin hood meets spicy mystery! It's a race to save a planet, a people, and find the mysterious robber. Ryder and Ellery had such amazing chemistry that grew from infatuation to love so great, I'll leave that at a cliffhanger...

If you've loved all Brenda's books so far, you have to read this amazing book! If you haven't read any of Brenda's books yet, you can start here, but there's a few references that you may not get.

Thank you for another great book! I read it in less than a full day!

Tempest of Shadows Review

Another extraordinary edition to the Brenda K. Davies collection!

Tempest of Shadows is a spin-off of The Shadow Realms Series based on Ryker's return to his home after being captured and tortured in Doomed Valley.

Ellery is a true heroine who values her people and gets herself in a conundrum with the handsome Ryker.

This story has everything I look for in a book. A slow burn romance, deceit, chaos and plot twists that keep you wanting more. I am looking forward to part two!

Ready for book 2!

If you have read the Shadow Realms series ,then you will be familiar with the main male character in Tempest of Shadows. Davies weaves a tale that requires a suspension of belief, yet seems totally realistic. For this book, Brenda has created a character that I personally loathe as if he were real. I literally yelled when I reached the end, even though I was thoroughly aware there was a cliffhanger. Prepare yourself for an action packed adventure and emotional responses. Davies books live rent free in my imagination.

Brenda does it once again!! A Tempest of Shadows is the perfect combination of adventure and romance. Enter the forest if you dare and take a wild ride with Ryker and Ellery. The characters pop off the pages as the story unfolds. You will be introduced to a variety of personalities and creatures. This book keeps you engaged and you won’t be able to read just one more chapter. So be ready for an all nighter or a day of absolute amusement. You will fall in love and won’t want the story to end. This book will leave you with a hangover and wanting more.

I am not an avid reader and usually quite slow at it, but after quitting social media this year I loaded up my E reader and this was my first book and it was done in two weeks. O M G it was sooooooo addicting. I felt the emotions the entire way through this book and NEVER got bored. The enemy to lovers and all the in between. Brenda’s writing style is exactly what I needed with shorter chapters and told in different POV of the characters. It was perfect. Can’t wait to start the second book in the series.

Loved this story. ❤️ Ryker, who was away for years, returns to a realm that is being destroyed by the new king. Ellery is stealing from the rich to give back to the poor. They get together in a most unusual way and fall in love. But Ryker is an aristocrat, and Ellery is a commoner. Won't go into any more detail as I don't want to spoil the adventure. Highly recommend. I was so lucky to receive an ARC and am sad I have to wait for the next book to come out!!

Another great book from Brenda! The Robin Hood storyline was cool. I loved getting to know Ryker a little better, and meeting all the new characters. I definitely hope we get to see some of the OG characters from the shadow realms in future books, but I have a feeling these new characters will find their own place in my heart too. Can’t wait to see what they get themselves into in the next book!

This book was so good! It’s a retelling of Robin Hood and has everything. The fantasy elements with all new immortals with interesting powers. There’s drama, angst, danger and love. Forbidden love, forced proximity, only one bed, are just some tropes found here. The characters are so lovable and you will find yourself rooting for them passionately. I can’t say enough good things about this book. You will devour it. Do yourself a favor and read it!!

Wonderful Spinoff

Ryker has returned from Doomed Valley much changed from the imprisonment, torture, and death of his best friend whom he had promised to protect the people of Tempest. Ellery is the Hooded Robin seeking to help the starving people. Such a wonderful adventure with much hated villains who will do anything they can to have complete control of the citizens. Ellery is a strong female and Ryker begins to regain his purpose. As always prepare for the unexpected.

This spinoff series from the Shadow Realm is just what I thought it would be. Ryker and Ellery are going to be epic together. I love the Robin Hood feel with Ellery trying to help her people that are suffering and yes she has secrets with it that she is keeping from Ryker, but I think once it all comes out she will be forgiven! She has to be!!! Well done Brenda on another epic series that I can not wait to read more!
