Hello.I’m glad you’ve found this book on “Practicalities Around Death and Bereavement. You’ve come to the right place. This is the second of a series of three books which are designed to give you everything you need following a bereavement. The first book "Helping you through Loss and Bereavement", deals with your feelings and emotions, your sense of loss and possibly hopelessness following the death of someone close to you.The emphasis of this book is on how to deal with the myriad responsibilities which face the family and friends of the deceased, especially if you are a named Executor of the Will. The third book "Poems, Eulogies, and Affirmations for the Bereaved", gives advice on writing a eulogy, poems which can (in full or in part) be used during a Memorial Service, and Affirmations which can help you through the darkest times, giving you strength and the experience of not being alone in your grief.Having spent several years as a volunteer and Supervisor with the bereavement service CRUSE, and counselled hundreds of clients, I feel well placed to offer advice on the subject of Bereavement, and the responsibilities and practicalities following the death of someone close. My wish is that many people will be helped through the grieving and practical processes at a very sad and difficult time in their lives.Kind Regards,David Griffiths.
Step-by-Step guidance is so helpful in times of grief, trauma and stress. While this well-written book is directed at those who live in the U.K., it would be useful to anyone looking for help with the necessary steps to take after a death of a loved one. My only disappointment was to see that, while the funeral traditions of most major religions as well as secular traditions were explained, Christianity was not included. To say that this was a major oversight is an understatement, in my opinion. Christianity is listed as the most populous religion worldwide, at 31% in 2023. The next largest religion was shown as 24%.
This goes through the logistics of when a loved one passes. As a hospice nurse a lot of patient’s families ask me many questions that are in this book. Though we have social workers to help answer those questions, having read this book and I am now better able to answer some of those questions on a basic level.
Lots of tips and things to consider when going through grief and what I really enjoyed about this is I now feel less alone and more able to navigate my loss
Death is inevitable and it’s worth educating ourselves on the issues and challenges before and after (those left behind of course). However, the dying person need to have the last say and this book provides great insight and resources.
