What do you do when life throws you lemons, but you hate lemonade?
For Assante Bowen, that was exactly how bittersweet his life was proving itself to be. The betrayal of loved ones was the cut in his skin. The consequences of said betrayal was the lemon juice dripped into that cut. After years of solitude, will it make him a better man ready to be received and most importantly forgiving? They say when God wants to teach you forgiveness, He puts you in situations that might just require you to forgive.
Majestic Starr Callahan’s name is definitely not a reflection of the life she’s lived. The aura of her name did not match the dimness that had fallen over her life. Once she decides to do something about it, it leads her down a road to a cabin. In this cabin, will she find everything she needs and wants, or will a sudden uninvited guest be termite to the already rotting wood that is her life?
All her life, Majestic has been told that she’s not a star. Will Assante be the man to prove to her that somebody lied? Let’s find out.

Mel, this here was it! Had me all in my feelings with these characters like they were my people! 😤
Assante was that 🐱! Even with the breakup of his marriage looming, he still did the honorable thing by taking care of his soon to be ex, and son until the ish hit the fan. Paula did what??? With whom?? Assante’s pressure went through the roof, and before he could control his emotions, he pounced. That split second decision was sat down for a minute. 😥 All because this heifer was lonely. Ughhh.. 🤬
After getting out, Assante needed a change of venue to start the second part of his life. Going to Gatlinburg and staying in his cabin was just the thing he needed to regain his peace. Well. Miss Starr would put a monkey wrench in that theory.
Starr was running from something heavy, as one could sense her uneasiness, and always looking over her shoulder. When a stranger opens the door to her cabin, she is ready to scrap, but is quickly brought down to size. Starr and Assante were sparring from the moment they met and would not let up. Was it due to the attraction that they were fighting, or fear due to their past traumas? Either way the chemistry was building in between the fighting.
Miss Gala was just adorable, and her sweetness created a family, when this all could have blown up for Starr. Yep, Assante you lied, cause Starr is a star and then some. 😍 Check this one out ya’ll, you won’t regret it. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I was hooked from the very first page. Assante and Starr met in an unconventional way, and they did not like each other at all. Starr had been through some things, and she was just trying to protect herself and Gala as much as she possibly could. Assante went through some stuff with his ex, Paula, who was trash. There were secrets, lies, humor, spice, and life lessons. Get into it!
This was entertaining from start to finish. Assante went through something devastating and unimaginable, so his reaction in the prologue was warranted. The nerve of people. The unwavering support of his mom and sister throughout the fallout was admirable. Now when he met Majestic Star…whew I knew I was in for a treat. Their banter and little miss Gala was hilarious. While how they met was unconventional and slightly illegal, the unspoken bond they formed was beautiful. Starr had been through A LOT…whew I cannot imagine living that way. I’m glad Assante’s family had the connections they did to take care of that issue. Now Paula, Sean, Cory, Keon, and Jazz all got what they deserved—pathetic people.
This book was all over the place. It was a bit of a slow burn and an enemies to lovers story. There were several issues with the editing and incorrect wording or phrases and multiple inconsistencies. I rated this story a generous 3/5 stars mainly because I enjoyed the banter between Assante and Starr. Lily and Lilith were a vibe and I loved their bluntness and realness and baby girl Gala stole the show from her first introduction. These things and people made this book more enjoyable.
This book started off with Assante getting a divorce and finding out his soon to be ex wife had been creeping with his so-called best friend and created a baby that he had been raising as his own and didn’t find out there was a possible question about paternity until the judge told him so. Paula was a trash individual and was very delusional because how do you sleep with Sean for a year and then find out your pregnant shortly after breaking things off because he caught feelings and not think there was any possibility that he could be the father of your child. Make that make sense. Then if her betrayal wasn’t enough, Assante catches a charge for assaulting his so-called best friend and ends up doing a bid for 6 years. Then fast forward to Assante getting out of prison and Paula is still on her bs thinking this man would ever consider taking her back and then reveals she had another kid by Sean, who is the biggest dead beat daddy there ever was for not taking care of these kids outside of financially.
Then we jump to Assante moving across country and meeting Starr when he goes to his cabin and finds her and baby girl Gala living there like they own the place. This is the part of the story where things started to get a little more interesting because Assante and Starr stayed at each other’s throats and taking petty shots at each other, but baby girl said not on her watch and prayed for them to get it together and become a couple. It took some time and fight from them both before that happened, and once it did, that part of the story wasn’t really developed and fleshed out. During this time we find out about Starr’s past and it was not pretty in the least. There was some trauma there that doesn’t seem like was ever addressed. Oh and Paula makes another appearance trying to get Assante back and fails once again. Then we end the book with Assante asking Starr to make things official as in be his woman not wife.
With all that said, there were definitely some parts that I liked and others that had me confused because the storyline was all over the place. I would say to read this book without having high expectations for greatness and see what you think for yourself.
At thoroughly enjoyed the short. STARR and Assante were so meant for each other. From the prolog this book was super fast Paste. Even though azanti had to go through the unimaginable during his divorce finding out that his son was not actually his son but his Fake a** best friends child, That s*** would have sent me trying to kill a 🐶🥷🏾 too. Paula with a trash as b**** I'm sorry but not sorry. But it was admirable to see that he still cared about kelsean. I thoroughly enjoyed the banter between starr and assante... And don't let me forget a little nice Galaxy, She was a hilarious little 6-year-old. I really love how thoroughly thought out the author's books are and how meaningful they are. Assante basically being able to look past star's past and see her for the amazing and beautiful woman she really is gave me so much life. Now as for Paula and Sean The audacity was freaking ridiculous for both of them. Though I don't care about either one of these characters it would have been nice to see Sean's explanation of why he even f around with Paula in the beginningBehindHis best friend's back, But then again I don't give a s*** about him. Cory, keyon and jazz death becomes them... I would've like to understand or get some type of explanation on the whole Cory being Galaxy's father as jazz claimed... But any end everything into the poet should be. That prom date was Amazing.
This book took us on a roller-coaster ride with the the different things happening in the story. Oh wow!! I definitely didn't see that courtroom scene with Assante and his ex-wife going the way it did. Assante is determined to live a quiet life after all he went through but ends up finding Starr and Galaxy squatting in his home. Assante and Starr's interactions had me cracking up. The way his sister and mother were Team Starr and his reaction to this was hilarious as well. Gala was such a precocious baby girl you couldn't help but fall in love with her. All Assante and Starr's passionate snapping at each other turns into another type of passion. Once Assante finds out that Starr and Gala are in danger, Assante goes in protective mode and didn't let anyone stop him from doing what he had to do to keep them safe. Paula needed to sit her a$$ down somewhere with her attention-seeking self. This book has all of the elements that you need in a good book - danger, humor, passion and fun-loving moments.
All I can say is, " That's how you start a book!! Mel Dau drew me in at the prolog! Let the drama commence!!
After watching this author go back and forth with the character's name on social media, I was thinking, "Oh, a stripper!" But Mel Dau couldn't be so mundane! Where does she get this stuff from?? Those voices be voicing🤦🏾♀!
I screamed and chuckled so much! Far fetched a storyline? Probably. No shade to Starr. Paula messed up, bad, it cost that man time, but she was shown no grace. They were getting a divorce for crying out loud. It wasn't as if they were still together 🤷🏾♀.
The real MVP was baby girl. Genre: Urban Romance Troupe: enemies to lovers Spice Level:🌶🌶🌶 Possible Triggers: sex trafficking Tissues: 0
I said what I said and as always: don't take my word for it. Read the book, form your own opinions, and support your authors!
Somebody definitely lied. Starr was definitely and will always be a star. Losing her mother at a young age and her dad to drugs, she was destined to be lost. Cory took advantage of her situation and pimped her. Good thing that she knew to save her coins so that she could get away. Meeting Assante was the blessing she needed. They both were trying to heal from past experiences that made them who they were. Assante, coming to terms with his feelings for Starr, was fun to read. He did everything to deny them. He discovered that he lied about Starr being a star.
Very sweet story with a lot of humor. Especially when Mrs. Lilith was telling Assante how she used to get down...too funny.
OMG, this was such a great read! I felt for Assante; that man consistently had me in his feelings while reading this book. My girl Starr was a strong black woman personified, and that made me love her more. Mel Dau has a way with a storyline because I did not see this story playing out like it did. Her books are always entertaining, but the truths revealed in this book took it up a notch because babbbby after truths were revealed in the beginning, I didn’t know it would get worse before it got better. However, I held on and finished this book in one sitting. Assante and Starr were outstanding characters, but my favorite was Gala. That little girl said what she meant and didn’t care who disagreed 😂 she had me hollering quite a bit while reading. Mel Dau is always a must-read for me because I know she’s going to knock it out the park every time, and I love it. This group of characters was different but worked so well together, and I would love for them to pop up in future books.
AWESOME READ..this was such a good read both Assante and Starr had learned lessons from the choices they made especially Starr, I wished the book would have touched on her bring more of a victim than it being a choice and instead of reminiscing about what she went through when trying to leave truly explain it to him so Assante could see she didn’t just settle for that lifestyle…now Assante had to sit down some years for a wife who wanted his time and someone else’s Paula had all the audacity she wasn’t entitled to but also I wanted more on why Sean betrayed his friend and Lily.job well done
The entitlement and nerve of ppl to believe they have the right to disprute other’s lives because they messed up!!! That judge ripped Assante WHOLE soul from his body with that revelation!!!…Then for the very ppl to be smiling in your face while playing behind your back!!!…Babyyyy, that court brawl was more than enough to have me screaming, GET THEY SSA!!! I loved everything about this book and I love how Assante sister and momma was on board about Starr remaining in the house!!! Assante and Starr was too animated as this story moved on, but Lil Gala definitely was the star!!! Assante definitely let love win with him when it came to KelSean!!!
I am shook that I’ve never read a story by Mel before. The beginning of the book had me STUCK to my kindle, and the story only kept getting better from there! I couldn’t guess what was going to happen with the story in the beginning but everything all came together so well. We dealt with quite a few time skips but I never felt like we missed out on anything in the couples journey together. So glad that I read this and even more glad that I can now dive into more of Mel’s catalogue!!!
I think this is a story you should go into blindly because babyyyy you will quickly realize it has all the right vibes💛
Listen Linda!!! You did your thing with this book! I was hooked from page on until the end. Ethan is a certified menace and I loved him. Now I thought I was going to have to fight Meanie Assante when he met Star and Galaxy but I was so glad I ended up loving him. His relationship with Gala was awesome and him stepping up for Kelsean was dope. Now I wanted Paula dead but I know you didn’t ask me so you let her live. But next time gone and put a bullet in her because what!!?!!
This man really disliked this woman for months. I understood Assant’s past but once he found out Star’s story he could have been kinder. Paula was trash through and through. This ninja became anger. He only tolerated Star for Gala.
He did what he did to protect them but it felt like it was more for Gala. I thought he would apologize and redeem himself much better but in my opinion it wasn’t enough but it was for Star. I couldn’t get past all the name calling, prejudgments, and all around meanness.
I could go on and on about all the ways this was not good. This can’t be the same author that wrote Terms of Love!
For me this read like a middle school play. The character development was one dimensional. One of the characters was dealing with a sensitive topic and the discussion around it was poorly handled. Despite the matriarch in the book representing a more sensible pov. The MMC remained ignorant, basically saying he loved her in spite of.
Yuck!
The best thing about this was the mention of the two kids. And even their dialogue didn’t seem age appropriate.
There is so much that can be written about this book because DAMN! The stars definitely aligned for this one. Every character is so well written. They all just flow. Mel Dau even slipped Cartier’s name in there from another author and series I love the love they show each other. Assante and Starr deserve happiness and what better way than to be happy together. Ah, Ms. Galaxy was hilarious. She brought the love and laughter. I hope that we get an update on them in future books. Mel Dau you just keep bringing the heat with everything you write and it is so appreciated.
Have you ever read a book and when it ended, you where tempted to immediately re-read it??? Well, this one might do it to ya! Somebody definitely lied--because Star shines bright and even though she was dealt a bad hand, she was committed to making things better and taking care of the one person she truly loved--Gala. Assante had endured enough to be hardened, but Gala and Star literally invaded his house and his heart. This book would pull at your heart strings, but would have you laughing out loud as soon as you turned the page.
Another 5⭐️ book from one of my faves. Starr and Assante were meant for each other cause they have matching smart mouthes. I loved reading them going back and forth with each other. Gala was my favorite character with her lil smart self. She stayed getting the adults in the room together. Now the ex-wife Paula was something serious. She really thought she could spin the block on that man and he would let her. She definitely was a delulu-bird. As always this read was informative as it touched on sex trafficking. I enjoyed this story and can't wait for Mel Dau's next release.
Well her name definitely describes her. Majestic! Starr! To know that she sacrificed her entire life for the sake of Gala is honorable! I wonder was her friend really that girl or was it a lie? Assante did what anyone else would’ve done. I’m glad he wasn’t cold but he stood firm on his no! These two never started as enemies just tell confused misunderstood people in my opinion. I loved Gala & my heart melted for KelSean! Great read!
I enjoyed this story but a few things he left me torn. The first was the typos. I was a little taken a back because this about of the ordinary for Mel Dau. Second was Assante. He was a little judgemental about Starr. It took his mother to talk sense into him. Then there was Paula, what was her purpose? Why keep bringing her up? To me she was useless. Other than those things it was a good plot.
What I love the most about Mel Dau’s books is that her FMC’s are women who show us that we are deserving of love ,empathy, and compassion. We deserve people in our corner who build us up and help us become the best versions of ourselves. Majestic Starr deserved all the things and I loved that Asante’s family was on board before he truly was on board with helping Majestic and Gala. This was a great story!!
This well written book flowed well and definitely kept my attention. There were secrets, lies, deception and a slew of misunderstandings. I liked the way that the relationship formed between Starr and Assante. Gala did everything in her power to ensure that they became boyfriend and girlfriend. Paula and Sean were pure trash and I’m glad that Kelsean ended up with Assante.
Assante was something!!!!! He was married and holding down his son. Until he found out it wasn’t his son but his best friends. After almost beating the best friend to death…in a courtroom he was sentenced to 6 years in jail. He did his time and came out ready to move on.
He decided to go to his cabin in Gatlinburg to clear his mind. Only to find a woman and child had been squatting!
This was a cute quick read. The star of the book was definitely Gala. The back story for both main characters was heartbreaking but loved how they overcame. I just wish there was more time dedicated to them being together. The book kind of glossed over the months where they were actually getting along and growing to like each other. While the time they “hated each other was detailed. So wish there was more balance. But still a good read.
Mel, I know I put this in my reviews with your books. Hunni, you are one of my faves. I so enjoyed this. That Gala, was hilarious. I need more of her. Assante and Starr were good for each other. Assante was who she needed. He needed her. Whew, that Paula. That's all I got for her. I do feel like I need more on Lily and Ethan.
I swear ms Mel Dau does it perfectly every single time. I’m normally not a fan of enemies to lovers, but damn, this one was chefs kiss. The character development sprinkled with some education tugs the heart strings. You know what, just keep doing your thing miss mamas, and I’ll be here for each book drop.
This story could have been really sad and triggering. The author was able to tell a tragic story without the trauma. Star survived and ended up a cosmic ending. Asunte got a raw deal, but his bounce back was real. There was some tines u felt the story wasn't flowing but it did not disappoint.
Assante was an awesome man that got dealt a bad hand. Sean and Paula were scandalous. They deserved everything that karma served. Assante learned to move on, and he did just that. Meeting Starr was rocky at first, but they managed. Gala was the glue for everyone. Assante and Starr fell fast. He would protect them at all costs. Outstanding job!
I really did love this book. Now at first Mel I was come on what are you doing to me, but then like always she came through with the bang I needed. Assante you told that lady she wasn't a star but she had gravel at her well you fill in the blanks. I absolutely fell in love with Gala's little self. Thanks Mel!
