Every moment that passes is not coming back. Yes, there might be moments in future, like the one you just experienced. But it's not going to be the same again. The one that was, was one like itself. It cannot be replaced. It's gone... Long gone... Dissolved in this crazy tasting, highly intoxicating drink of life. In an attempt to capture these bits and pieces that keep dissolving to give their distinct flavors to this colorful cocktail, I end up scribbling on my pad. This book is a bouquet of such moments that started with my mindless scribbling and ended up in verses. Sweet, Bitter, Sour, Sublime... Each piece has a taste of its own.

Absolutely amazing book. Indeed a treat for poetry lovers. I like the way the book is divided into categories so you know what to look for. The poet has brought out all emotions of life in one little book. As you keep reading, you feel more and more connected to the book. Every poem leaves you with a memory which has infact been in your own life. I had to pause a little after each poem because involuntarily I was lost in similar times from my own past. Most of them make you have goose bumps and the pain and emotion in some of the poems are expressed so beautifully that it brought tears in my eyes. Apart from that, the small traits of human behavior and human nature is expressed in very simple words, sometimes metaphorically and sometimes directly. One of my favorites is about a child driving with his father and enjoying everything around him. It made me think for a while of how as we grow up, we stop appreciating the little things around us. A bus ride which was exciting looking outside, at the nature, at shops, dogs on the street, people , has turned into a ride with my head buried inside my cell phone using facebook and internet just to look for nothing. These small realizations make you connect to the book even more. This is surely not the book which you can read only once.
Quote :- Poems are like Paintings- Sketched by raw thoughts, coloured by vibrant imaginations ,splashed by emotions and brushed by rhythmic words.
My View :-
This book is a rainbow of colourful poems with a sprinkle of stripped emotions & crafted imaginations. These poems are like "ice-creams", different in colour & taste but have their personalised flavour to it. With this book i stroll down memory lane reviving those carefree childhood & crazy teenage days where full of temptations ,ramblings and longings.
Glimpse of few ones :-
Idle Mornings :- From the dream of being together to the bitter-sweet reality, from those hypnotic words to the natural symphony..this was a magnetic read.
Temptations :- From the childish cravings to the desperate longings , From the passionate love to the intoxicating memories ,From the delicious cakes to the sweet Alphonso.. this was an aromatic read.
Love,Life & A Little Nostalgia :- From the short but impactful poems to the long flat poems, from those unsaid words to that nostalgic drives, from those crazy crushes to the eternal love definitions... This was a fair read.
Lost Moments :- From those gazing at clouds or shadow moments to those focussed views , from those random thoughts to those worried thoughts, from those haunting songs to those crazy remote fights, from those unsaid words to those unread letters.. This was a sentimental read.
Flirting with Death :- From perfect poetic flavour to the sensible (life-death) convo, from the "hidden tears" to the questionable existence , from the caged person to the freelancer..this was a hysterical read.
Wow and Oops Of The Book :-
⭐️ Language & Content :- The language was simple & lucid , some poems were bang on perfect with an apt poetic flair, impactful social message, whereas some poems were flatly long, non-connecting and irrelevant
⭐️⭐️ Better & Could Be Better :- The Coffee, Love is beyond all reasons, A Girl Looking down at the city, The lane, Embroidery The Remote ,A Fleeting life ...were crafted with melodious rhythms and emotions whereas, Alphonso , Someday, Stories, Song, Sometimes, Choked , Walk were simply off track .
Only poetries can feature feelings, idea’s, opinions and perspectives in a rhythmic and distinguishing style. Poetries are really interesting to read as spirits, moods and emotions are moulded in a poetic style. I have finished reading Postcards from Memory and this is an anthology of poems composed by Samir Satam.
This anthology consists of poems on a vast range of topics. Idle Morning, Temtations, Love, Life and a little Nostalgia, Ramblings are the topics covered. The poet has come up with his opinions and thoughts through these poems. Social topics, idealization, fantasy, romance, seasons, feelings attached with surroundings, emotional state, human tendencies have been featured through poems in this anthology.
The author has used perfect words to describe topics and issues that he has chosen. Figures of Speech used in the poem enhance the poetic effect. The poems are lovely and are surly going to entertain readers. Titles of the poems are simple but suitable. I loved the way author has composed certain interesting poems.
Speaking about the drawbacks, some poems in the anthology are not that absorbing. The poet could have implanted interest in these poems. Poems in the initial section were not that captivating as compared to poems in the later section. Some poems have an abrupt ending. Had the poet extended them by a few lines or words, giving it a proper conclusion, then the effect would have been different for sure. Nevertheless, I am sure that the author will contemplate on these suggestions during his future projects.
Considering everything, I would rate the book with 3.5/5. Hope the author continues to write poems and comes up with more books.
Poetry has been categorized into 10 parts each with an apt title.
1. Idle Morning 2. Temptations 3. Love, Life and a little Nostalgia 4. Ramblings 5. A Point of View 6. Stolen Moments 7. Lost Moments 8. Longing 9. One for the road 10. Flirting with Death
Starting off life with an idle morning, celebrating life with stolen moments and at the end Flirting with death.
Beautiful collection of handpicked poems.
All the best to the poet Mr Samir Satam and First Step Publishing for this marvelous effort to keep poetry reading alive.
Loved all the poems in this book. And now its a keepsake for me, because reading these poems just once isn't enough. Each poem is an experience in itself. So, whenever I would like to have that experience I will open the book and read the relative poem :)
When I read the book the first time, I read in parts. Only few poems at a time. And after reading each poem I had a emotion on my face. Sometimes a smile, sometimes a surprise, sometimes tension and sometimes sadness. Because each poem absorbs in your mind, heart and soul. You feel so strongly about the topic, the lines and the thoughts behind them while reading each and every poem.
My most favorite ones are : Someday, Love is beyond all reasons, Now & Then, First day at School, This place, Shall we dance tonight, Clouds, Song, Last night, Choked, Dream, My terrace, They will always stay, I wait, Walk, A fleeting life.
I congratulate Samir for this beautiful book. I am sure it will be loved by all poetry lovers. And every reader can relate to one or the other poem with his life. Though this book is one treasure for me, I will wait eagerly for another treasure of poems from the author.
According to the author; “Every moment that passes is not coming back. Yes, there might be moments in future, like the one you just experienced. But it is not going to be the same again.
The book embellished with an antique cover is a collection of number of poems based on the experience and deep observance of the author. While reading the book, I felt that the author has a boundless imagery of the things around him. From the cakes and cup of coffee to nature and seasons, from love and emotions to pain and death, he has mentioned almost everything that surrounds us. Some poems have astonishing endings while some are weaved with useful messages. Though I felt few poems could have been better. I also liked the concept of distributing various poems under different headings.
I liked most of the poems but the ones which I will cherish forever are: “Now & Then, “Stories, “First day at school, “This Place, “Do not speak anymore, “Last Night, “A Lost Thought , “The Remote, “Letters, “Dream, “They will always stay , “I wait., “Wild Child, “A meeting with End , “Clown, “Painting and “Walk.
Poems are like droplets of rain. Droplets of words alone can’t make a perfect poem! Like a splash of rain a perfect poem drenches the reader with sheer joy. Very few words of a poem can tell what a lengthy novel can never convey. The silence of a poem can echo the silent thought of the poet in the minds of those who share the thought! That’s what my first impression while reading ‘Postcards from memory- the debut anthology of poems by Samir Santam. It is hard to be simple and it is harder to express simple thought in simple way.
The poems in this book tend to have a slight bend towards philosophical ideas about life, freedom, death, etc.very easy to understand while not losing their lyrical value which is very good.i really liked reading the poems in category “Flirting with Death. They induce a sense of being at ease with the idea of death. In all, Postcards from Memory is a collection of nicely penned poems.
Synopsis - Every moment that passes is not coming back. Yes, there might be moments in future, like the one you just experienced. But it's not going to be the same again. The one that was, was one like itself. It cannot be replaced. It's gone... Long gone... Dissolved in this crazy tasting, highly intoxicating drink of life. This book is a bouquet of such moments that started with my mindless scribbling and ended up in verses. Sweet, Bitter, Sour, Sublime... Each piece has a taste of its own. About the book- This book is an anthology of poems. You will find poems on every single emotion. The feelings and words are very touching and the poet has summed up every word keenly which matches with every person's emotion. You will relate to this very easily. My verdict - I loved every single poem but my personal top favorite topics are Love, Life and a little Nostalgia, Stolen Monents and Lost Moments. These poems have an attractive feel so that when you will read it you will eventually feel that poet has written about you. Congratulations and appreciation to poet for such deep work.
There is a beautiful poetic touch to the title of the book "Postcards from Memory". As poets, we all try to capture moments and preserve them in our poems so that we can look back at them again and again. So in this book, the poet has tried to capture the most memorable and savory moments of his life in a delicate way.
The book is divided into ten sections: Idle Morning| Temptations | Love, lies and a little nostalgia | Ramblings | A point of view | Stolen Moments | Lost Moments | Longing | One for the road | Flirting with Death
The language used in the poems is simple and lucid. Therefore, no one will find any difficulty in comprehending the meaning of the poems. There are crisp, short poems as well as longer ones.
However, on the flip side, there are quite a few poems in the book that could have been much better. There are some incessant long poems that aren't impactful or touching.
Overall, the book is a mixed bag comprising some very good poems and some average poems.
The most favourite part for me about this book would be the author's touch and style. He has beautifully curated and embraced each poem with a piece of his heart.
For me, some poems are heart-wrenching, some heart-warming, some intoxicating, some melancholic, some take you back to the old places, to the old times to the old memories or feelings. While, some manage to ignite a sense of realisation within you about dreams, burried emotions and relations.
Each poem speaks volume and each syllable strikes you, only to numb your senses. It has been a great experience reading this book. Looking forward to reading more from the author.
