Henry Mosquera is a writer and artist born in Caracas, Venezuela. He is the author of critically-acclaimed, award-winning novels, "Sleeper's Run" and "Status Quo." Mosquera attended the University of Miami, Florida, where he obtained a double major in Graphic Design and Film. He resides in Los Angeles, California with his wife.
Sleepers Run by Henry Mosquera really took me by surprise! It’s the most fast paced intrigue I’ve read in a long time. Truly from page one I was anxious to see what would happen next. Veteran Eric Caine has no memory of the car accident that left him wandering the streets of Miami. Though his PTSD leaves him an angry destructive man you don’t want to run into in a bar,he’s offered a job that takes him to Venezuela where he grew up as a child. It will take all his skills to get him out of the mess of international conspiracy as CIA assassins come after him in this country that is undergoing stability upheaval.
Now I don’t want to give everything away about this book but I will say that it will get your adrenaline running right along with Eric’s as you are drawn into the excitement and intrigue of each and every page. You won’t want to put it down until you’re done! Is it just paranoia that Eric is being followed and his cell and computer are being hacked? Working in information security ,Eric Caine can tell the difference between corporate spying and government agencies and there is more going on here than meets the eye. Henry Mosquera brings black ops forces to the forefront as you follow the action around the globe in Miami,Venezuela,Paris, Corsica, and beyond. A five star read for sure!
SLEEPER'S RUN by Henry Mosquera has been the best read of all the books I've read so far this year! It is non-stop action from page one to the very last page. I started browsing this book while my son & daughter-in-law were making me super & I couldn't put it down after that! As soon as I got home I curled up in bed & started reading it until I finished the very last page! It's about a war on terror veteran, Eric Caine, who was found wandering the streets of Miami babbling to himself. He'd been in a car accident & after that he couldn't remember anything. The doctor's told him that he was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which most veterans suffer from, but then bad things start to really happen to him! A fellow native from Venezuela befriends him & helps Eric get his life back together, & just when things are looking too perfect for Eric, all hell breaks loose! Eric doesn't know if he's loosing his mind, after he commits a heinous crime or if he's part of a conspiracy divised by the CIA, but he goes on a wild romp that seems to conspire against him, to clear his name. Like I said, this is a highly addictive read & you won't be able to put it down once you start reading it, so set aside some time for yourself because this is a "must read" book! I gave this a 5 star rating, but if it were up to me, I would absolutely rate this a 10 star book!
I had won a copy of Sleepers Run through Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ First Reads giveaway. I enjoyed this book a lot. It read almost like a fast paced action movie. For a first novel I think Henry Mosquera did a great job. There is room for improvement however, I would have liked to have seen more details about the characters, and the plot, rather from jumping from one thing to the next. Overall it's a great read, and I can't wait to read his next book.
After reading the summary of Sleeper's Run my curiousity was piqued so I entered the giveaway and was pleasantly surprised to learn that I was a first-reads winner! :) I enjoyed this book from the first couple of pages. The author's sense of humour made me LOL (literally). The story evolves around an ex military personal as he tries to make sense of his life. A page turner with lots of twists and turns in the story line.
Sleeper's Run was a very exciting book to read. Each page made you want to know more and more. The story progressed wonderfully. It was well written and easy to understand. This was a book that I would recommend to anyone! This was a book hard to put down, I always wanted more and to know what was next. Each chapter gave such a detailed account of the story and made you feel as if you were in the book as the story was going on. Great BOOK!!
"Mosquera weaves a tale of suspense through a clandestine world, crafting an engaging read that's not easily put down." - Kirkus Indie
"In addition to a compelling protagonist, the intriguing, well-developed plot filled with international politics, conspiracy theories and modern science, together with a crisp narrative make for a suspense-filled, fast-paced thriller. "... [Sleeper's Run] plot is phenomenal. The constant threats and reveals left me furiously flipping the pages, reading for hours on end because I "had" to know how it all turns out. If you like spy thrillers at all, you should pick this book up, but I recommend you only start reading if you have lots of time on your hands. This is one that you will not be able to put down." - San Francisco Book Review
"Mosquera pulls readers in with intoxicating descriptions of his country, capturing Venezuela's allure even as he portrays its violence and poverty. He also includes shrewd commentary about the nature of the Venezuelan government and its relations with that of the United States. He weaves these points deftly into the story line without bogging down the plot. Indeed, the novel keeps one guessing until the very end, with enough layers to satisfy even the most staunch conspiracy theorists. Sleeper's Run will be of interest to anyone who enjoys international intrigue." - ForeWord Clarion Reviews
"Right off the bat, Sleeper's Run had me on the edge of my seat. The plot is extremely dynamic, full of energy, at times surprising, and adamant that the reader continue reading." - Scriptshark
"Sleeper’s Run is a debut novel that is full of suspenseful non-stop action, intrigue, espionage, the blackest of black ops. I fell headlong into the story and didn’t want to come back to reality until it I closed the back cover. Mr. Mosquera has an eye for detail and a deep knowledge of politics, security, IT, weapons, PTSD, and seemingly every other subject that makes up a great thriller of this type. The characters were fully developed and they felt so alive that you felt they were right next to you. An intense and compelling novel, Sleeper’s Run will make you look twice at the people around you. Mr. Mosquera has created a novel that will be a guaranteed sensation!" - The Bibliophilic Book Blog
"All I have to say is wow! I was pleasantly surprised by the book and how much I really enjoyed it. Its fast paced and it literally sucks you in from the get go. I actually managed to read this in a day and a half and trust me when I say I had a hard time putting it down and really wanted to stay up to read it until I finished it but I couldn't. Those are my kind of books when it sucks you in and you can't put it down. I have to say that I could actually see this being made as a movie because I think it would be fantastic on the big screen. Henry's writing is perfect with just enough description to make you feel like its real." - Cindy's Love of Books
"Sleepers Run by Henry Mosquera really took me by surprise! It’s the most fast paced intrigue I’ve read in a long time. Truly from page one I was anxious to see what would happen next." - Babas Farm Life
"I highly recommend that you pick it up. Henry Mosquera writes with a driving intensity and continues an exciting pace until a surprisingly poignant ending. Two thumbs way up!" - Simply Stacy
"The book is 350 pages filled with suspense! Right from the start of the book you will be on the edge of your seat. It’s filled with surprises, energy and great dynamic. Henry describes location and fight scenes in such great detail that you really feel like you are there watching Eric Caine go through his journey. It’s a great freshman book from the author and I really wish it hadn’t ended, I could have just kept reading it! I’ll be on the lookout from more from Mosquera because I see big things in his future!" - Being Alison
"For those of you who enjoy this genre, Mosquera is definitely an author to keep an eye on. This is his first novel, but I foresee several more in the future. He writes like a veteran and keeps the suspense rolling from cover to cover." - Minding Spot
"My Thoughts: Wow! This book is very intense--I simply couldn't put it down. I read way into the night but I simply wanted to know what was going to happen next. I felt the author did his research when he wrote this book for he was able to write intelligently about a variety of topics and tie them all together perfectly. He develops the characters so effectively and intimately." - My Springfield Mommy
"I found “Sleeper’s Run to have an interesting plot and intriguing characters. Mosquera does a good job with character development, most particularly with the main character, Eric Caine. I was drawn in right away to the story in the opening pages and my interest was held throughout." - Rebecca's Reads
"The author does a fantastic job of keeping this book very fast-paced. It is hard to put down as it contains everything, including how to run from the law and how to bring the law to you. The book will remind readers of early Clive Cussler novels when his hero, Dirk Pitt, got in and out of trouble in record time but kept the reader’s attention at all times. Eric Caine is a real hero who isn't full of bluster - this is a man who doesn’t know, or care, that he is a hero." - Feathered Quill Book Reviews
Henry Mosquera creates the perfect thriller in his novel, Sleeper's Run. Anyone interested by conspiracies, or just wants to read a book that makes them think about and question what they know, would enjoy this book.
Henry Mosquera writes Sleeper’s Run in order to get the reader to think and question things in life. Mosquera leaves the reader at the edge of their seat throughout the entire book all the way through to the end. Mosquera has definitely created a book that leaves the reader wondering, “What if this is true? What if there really are ‘sleeper assassins in the general public? What if the person I am sitting next to right now is in fact a ‘sleeper assassin?’ He purposefully leaves the reader pondering the “sleeper assassin possibility even when you have finished the book.
Sleeper's Run themes the idea that history is just what majority decides to believe, regardless of its truth. Meaning one should leave their mind open to possibilities. Henry mentions this many times throughout the novel through his main character Eric Caine, a “sleeper assassin. He really wants the reader to question history and what you have been told. He shows this through his book novel through Eric Caine’s assassination act, even though he was set up and brain washed into assassinating the Venezuelan leader. Even though Caine knows the truth, the public will never hear about it. Mosquera really wants his readers to buy into conspiracy theories, and he’s sold me!
Henry Mosquera definitely enjoys his conspiracy theories involving many different countries such as the United States, Venezuela, Qatar, France, and England, as well he ties in the CIA, rogue CIA officers, the FBI, Qatar’s State Security, the French military, and rogue military personal. Mosquera’s style of constant unpredictable twists and turns throughout the novel remind me of the director M. Night Shyamalan’s films having a new twist right after another after another! He is truly a master of twists and a strong believer in conspiracy theories. As well, Mosquera believes in the possibility that history is only what the majority has chosen you to believe.
Sleeper's Run is honestly one of the most interesting books I have ever read. It kept my attention throughout the book and I really enjoyed reading it. I love Mosquera’s writing style and I would definitely read another book written by him.
I received Sleeper's Run as a goodreads.com giveaway.
My overall feeling about Sleeper's Run is that it's a mediocre book that is desperately pleading for a good editor. The overall concept isn't bad - pretty much your basic globe-hopping sleeper agent story. The pacing is decent, but character development is lacking and the novel is a technical train wreck..
I got about half-way through Sleeper's Run before the technical flaws really started to suck my enjoyment out of the story. Mr. Mosquera commits my personal writing pet peeve - he relies almost exclusively on "says" to attribute dialogue to the speaker. There are a few instances of more expressive words being used - I think I remember a "concluded" or something similar - but even in instances where the dialogue to indicate the usage of a word like "asks" or "exclaims," the rote "says" awaits.
I'm also not a fan of first-person, present tense narratives. The point-of-view and verb tense issues inherent in this perspective are tricky for the most seasoned writers, and regularly create problems in Sleeper's Run. There are several unexpected POV changes that are distracting and create a question of how the protagonist is aware of these activities and conversations taking place. Personally, I think a third-person, omniscient point-of-view would have created a lot more coherence in the overall plot.
Mr. Mosquera is apparently a fan of pop culture and uses various references to movies, news stories, music groups, etc. to distinguish his characters. The problem is that this seems to be the only character development in the book. I kept thinking back to the classic mantra of writing: "show, don't tell." The characters in the book are told to us as reflections of others, rather than shown as individuals in their own right. There were several instances later in the book where I was confused by who a character was that re-entered the narrative primarily because they were not memorable from earlier in the story.
There are also some grammatical errors and odd word choices scattered throughout the book that I found distracting and/or confusing.
I applaud Mr. Mosquera for the time and effort he put into completing his first novel. He does have a talent for storytelling, however I would encourage more technical editing and polishing in his future work.
When I started reading, my first thought was a Liam Neeson movie I watched recently called Unknown where a man wake up from a coma to find out no one believes he is who he says - even his wife. The rest of the movie is spent with his character pushing to prove his identity.
Eric Caine is also having trouble remembering in the Miami-Dade VA hospital. There is no recollection of a car accident, but there is recollection of a bar fight and Arabic?
It should be noted that the author attended college at the University of Miami and is from Venezuela so it is no surprise that is the location written into the storyline of Sleeper’s Run.
It is hard to write a review for special op, CIA related novels for fear of giving away too much and ruining it for the next person choosing to read it. Some people don’t mind a few spoilers here and there, they feel it adds more to the book allowing them to constantly question - “when? But- because this novel is so fast paced and centered around one main character instead of a team of ops, I find it best if I keep the story plots, twists, turns, and page-turners to myself.
Eric figures there is something fishy going on surrounding his black-out and strange events. In pursuit of answers he somehow finds himself in Venezuela and in time meets a wonderful young lady who claims to be a part of the same secret group he’s found himself a part of. He wants to get closer to her but he has to flee the country. He is no longer safe and no longer able to hide. He is not safe, neither are his secrets. What happens next just might shock you. Things are not always what they appear to be.
Let me just start with this I am NOT your usual chick I LOVE action packed, suspense filled books and movies that are usually geared toward men. Sleepers Run has all of this and reminds me very much of the Bourne series so if you like them, you will like this!
I love any book that includes government agencies like the CIA they have always appealed to me, so this book is right up my alley. Eric Caine is a War on Terror veteran and wakes up in a hospital with a gap of eight days in his memory. Since being a vetern of the war, he has had post traumatic stress disorder and it isn’t unusual for him to wake up with nightmares and cold sweats. When he wakes up in the hospital, he finds out that his car was found wrapped around a tree, yet he has no idea how this happened.
While he is out one night, he happens upon a young man at a bar whom eventually offers him a job. When he arrives in Venezuela, he begins to start feeling like he is being watched and is being used by the CIA, FBI and Venezuelan police to be a “killing machine. He has no idea how his psyche is allowing him to perform such unspeakable acts and tries to find the answers.
You will have to read it to find out what happens next.
I found this book to be a real page turner as it was fast paced and full of action. Loved it!
**I will caution you the language can be a bit harsh, so if this offends you, you might want to steer clear of this book.
Synopsis: (from the authors website) War on terror veteran, Eric Caine is found wondering the streets of Miami with no memory of the car accident that left him there. Alone and suffering from PTSD, Eric is on a one way road to self destruction. Then a chance meeting at a bar begins a series of events that helps Eric start anew. Let me just say that the above synopsis is a very tame version of what really happens in this fast paced, hair raising story of intrigue. I could not put the book, or Kindle actually, down... Wow, what an exciting read! For those of you out there that are addicted to the black ops kind of thing, this one will definitely appeal. Unfortunately, it is hard to review this one without saying too much that will give away and ruin the plot twists...and there are plenty of them! So let me just say that Sleepers Run is a well written novel full of intrigue, adventure, and action...There's even a little bit of romance thrown in for good measure...My recommendation? Pick this one up! You won't be sorry! 5 hearts for this one
I don't normally get into military or political books, but I have to admit that I rather enjoyed this one. Fans of the Bourne series are sure to enjoy it. There's enough intrigue and drama to keep you reading, even if you're easily bored by special ops and political propaganda.
The most fascinating part of this book for me was the writing style. I'm used to storytellers, and Mosquera is definitely not a storyteller. Instead of having a familiar feeling that someone is just talking to you, this is an artfully crafted tale. We switch back and forth between first and third person. It's almost as if we're watching Caine's life through both his eyes as well as an unseen narrator. In the beginning, I found myself feeling as if I were reading an old episode of Twilight Zone. After a while, I didn't even notice the writing because I was so wrapped up in the story most of the time.
For those of you who enjoy this genre, Mosquera is definitely an author to keep an eye on. This is his first novel, but I foresee several more in the future. He writes like a veteran and keeps the suspense rolling from cover to cover.
I was emailed with the opportunity to review "Sleeper's Run" and accepted the offer. If you enjoy action or spy books, this is definitely the book for you. It definitely has a good hook and keeps you wanting to figure out what happens. This book would be perfect for a young male, approximately 20 years of age. WARNING: I would not recommend for the military as there is very graphic imagery of very current war affairs in extensive detail as the main character does suffer from PTSD. Also, it is a wonder how the main character seems to know how to do anything in whatever situation he happens to be in at that moment. If this were made into a movie, think Harrison Ford. The only other set-back for women readers is the way in which the book is written. It is very factual, and there are not many attempts to make it more emotional, or to relate to the story. Don't get me wrong, it has a very interesting storyline and keeps you turning pages. Once you get the hang of the author's writing style it becomes much easier.
Henry Mosquera does a GREAT job at really making you feel like you are on the motorcyle with Eric as he is being chased trying to escape his assailants. This is something you can only get from watching a movie and as an added bonus, you also get the thoughts and feelings of the person being pursued which is not something you get from a movie. Henry uses this same method in describing the fighting scenes where Eric uses JuiJitsu to fight off and outsmart his assailants. Having a husband who is active in this sport, I was familiar with the moves and was able to visualize the moves with clarity. My only drawback was the "political" aspect of the book. We differ in our beliefs in that aspect. Other than that, I really liked how we were able to get inside the head of a Veteren returning from battle. I had no idea how difficult it is for them to return to civilization and return to normal life. Greatly written.
I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. Eric Caine was a war veteran trying to put his life back together. Battling PTSD has caused him to react in bizarre ways. One day he’s found walking the streets of Miami mumbling in Arabic. He’d wrecked his car with no memory of driving it or having an accident. Then an unexpected friendship with a man he meets at a bar gives his life the fresh star4 that he needed. He gets a job in the lucrative Cosgo Company as their IT specialist. He’s really good at his job which gets him sent to Venezuela. That’s where he meets the gorgeous Trishna and the action, adventure and suspense begins.
Wow! This was a fantastic novel. It reminded me of a Robert Ludlum novel. There’s lots of action and intrigue. There were moments when I wanted Eric to realize the big picture. It was a great book through and through. I definitely don’t think anyone would want to miss out on this awesome read!
Eric Cane is like a book version of Burn Notice! At first he is portrayed as a drunk who knows nothing. After getting into a fight at a bar, another guy bails him out. The unbeknownst friend Antonio ultimately had plans for Eric. Eric was sent to Venezuela with a mission - kill the president. After setting down and doing a few things he realized he was being tracked by officials and maybe tricked. The black-out he dealt with reminded me of Borne Identity, except Eric was a bit more trusting of people than Jason Borne was. The author, Mosquera, used many descriptive details and painted the action scenes for the readers. Using magnificent details like this allows us to fall into the story and see the 'movie' in our minds. A great writer can always turn a book into a movie within the readers mind!
I've really been looking forward to reading more novels like this lately so when I had the opportunity to read Sleeper's Run I jumped on it! I got the action and suspense that I've been looking for as well as a solid plot line to keep me hooked and reading through to the end. I loved the mystery of it all and couldn't help but keep on reading just to see what was going to happen next. I was so happy that this book wasn't entirely predictable and that kept me wanting more!
One thing that I do wish that this book had would be a little more description with everything. The dialogue, the characters, the settings, all of it. Even though I still ending up thoroughly enjoying this novel, I think that I may have given it a full five stars with a slightly fuller writing style. Even with that I am very much looking forward to reading more by this author and seeing what else he has to offer.
I was really interested why the title was Sleeper’s Run when I got my copy of this novel. Sure was, there’s a deeper meaning to it.
It’s really good, Sleeper’s Run being Mosquera’s first novel. Fast-paced action was present and the details were comprehensive. I love how meticulous the assassination thing occurred and it awed me how complicated the whole set-up happened. Mosquera did well on researching his topics.
What I personally like about this was the whole hacking fad. It was really interesting on my part, and it’s one of the reasons I was glued on reading this.
Over-all, great job! Definitely recommending this to military and political thriller readers. But if you’re not one, you’ll definitely become.
Sleeper’s Run is a debut novel that is full of suspenseful non-stop action, intrigue, espionage, the blackest of black ops. I fell headlong into the story and didn’t want to come back to reality until it I closed the back cover. This is a great first novel, an excellent thriller, written by an author that understands the cinematographic language. This book has personal thrills for me because large parts of me occur in Miami and Caracas, both cities I know well. But I think this book will appeal to anyone that likes the genre. Yes, some of the events in the book sound far fetched and unreal, but, hey, most of the time life is boring and you wouldn't want to read about it. Would this book be better if the events where of a Daniel Suarez quality? I'm unconvinced, I think there is a time and space for a book such as this. I expect the second book by the author impatiently.
A spy thriller with a twist. Eric Caine's in a bad place psychologically. When presented with a helping hand, he grabs it and hangs on. But then the hand-up turns out to be much different than he imagined. As the description says, "nothing is what it seems."
Although the story has a few minor rough spots, it is fast-paced, with increasing tension, as Eric gets into a situation he could never have anticipated and doesn't understand. Eric is forced to fight for survival while trying to uncover exactly what happened, who is responsible, and figure out what he can do about it.

This book is a great, fast paced read! I could not put this book down. In many ways it reminded me of the Jason Bourne series, even so it was it's own great story. Eric Caine has no clue how he ended up walking the streets of Miami after a car accident. From there he attempts to get his life in order when he finds out that the missing pieces in Miami is only the beginning of a much bigger puzzle...a puzzle that leads him all over the world trying to escape capture long enough to figure out everything that has happened and is happening to him.
Sleeper’s Run was fast paced and exciting. I think it would make a great movie. It reminded me a little of “conspiracy theory with a little “Terms of Endearment thrown in the mix. The military research was clearly extensive. The action was described so well that it made it easy for anyone to visualize what was happening and that’s saying something coming from a person who has no real fighting experiences outside of reading material. It was a good read.
This book had me hooked from the very beginning!! It is non-stop action from one cover to the other, and is written in the style of a big summer blockbuster action movie. In fact, the story came alive in my mind just like it was playing on a big screen.
I really liked Eric’s character!! He is plagued with very fragile and human emotions, and at the same time he is hard edged, and all about business the perfect wounded warrior leading man!
If you are looking for an action packed read, with an ending that does not disappoint, check out Sleeper’s Run!!!
We received this book from goodreads.com for free. I cannot wait to read more by Mr. Mosquera! I don't usually care for books written in the first person, but this one was very well done. The twists, turns and suspense kept me glued to the book and up reading way after I should have been asleep. It's a good book when I don't mind going to work tired and I think about it every chance I get, wondering what's going to happen next! I have already passed the book on to someone else to read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I won this book through Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ giveaways and was excited to read something unlike that which I normally read. The events of this novel move fast, which kept my attention. The one aspect of the novel that disappointed me was my lack of ability to connect to characters. I felt little emotion toward Eric, an it wasn't until the end of the novel that I felt a "good for him" moment.
I would definitely say that this book is fast paced. From the start it kicks you in the butt and keeps you running. So if you like thrillers that are extremely fast paced this is great for you. I found it just ok because I felt like character development was sacrificed for the breakneck pace that this novel was written in.
If you're looking for a real thriller that rings true on each and every page this is the book for you. The book is packed thick with believable action and lots of twists and turns. This, I understand, is Henry's first novel, and I'm very much looking forward to his next; and hoping there will be many more to come. Reads Sleeper's Run-- you won't be sorry.
