I don’t know about you, but when I check out an author's bio, it’s usually because I’ve read a book I liked and wondered about the person behind it. Let's skip the formal bio and I'll give you the inside scoop on who Roxanne St. Claire really is.
First of all, call me Rocki. Everyone does. Evidently, when my mother brought me home from the hospital I seemed too scrawny and small to pull off “Roxanne (she’d read Cyrano de Bergerac while pregnant or I would have been Judy) so they called me Rocki.
I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, the youngest of five (overachievers, every one), and fell in love with words and stories the summer I read Gone With The Wind. That year, for my twelfth birthday, my parents gave me a typewriter (with italic font it was the coolest thing) and from that day on, I’ve had my fingers on a keyboard, pounding out love stories for fun. My AP English teacher taught me the two most important lessons an aspiring author ever needs: 1) verbs are the key to life and 2) a writer should get a real job. After attending UCLA and graduating with a degree in communications, I tried acting and television broadcasting. Oh, they aren’t real jobs? I learned that the hard way. I changed my last name from Zink to St. Claire because a news producer told me Roxanne Zink had too many harsh consonants for a TV personality apparently Katie Couric didn’t get the memo. I got some fun gigs, and even met Tom Hanks when I did a guest appearance on Bosom Buddies. I liked on camera work, but wasn’t too crazy about starvation, so I moved to Boston and got that “real job. In fact, I placed my foot on the bottom rung of the corporate ladder and didn’t look down until I’d climbed all the way up to the level of Senior Vice President at the world’s largest public relations firm. On the way up, I met the man of my dreams in an elevator. Two years later in the same elevator! he asked me to marry him and I wisely said yes.
I stayed in PR, moved to Miami, had a few babies, lost my home in a hurricane, built another one a few hours north and all along, I kept writing my “stories for fun. One night, I read a particularly fabulous romance novel that changed my life for good. That night, I decided I wanted to make someone else feel as whole and happy as that author made me feel. (Everyone asks! It was Nobody’s Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.) With two small children and one big “real job, writing my first novel wasn’t easy, but I did finish a manuscript that managed to get the attention of a literary agent. She told me to do one thing and one thing fast: write another book. (The first one is usually a “learner book, honestly.) That second manuscript sold to Simon & Schuster’s Pocket Books and was released in 2003 as Tropical Getaway. Since then, I’ve written almost thirty more, in multiple genres, and long ago replaced the corporate ladder with the rollercoaster of publishing as a full-time novelist. Finally, writing is my real job.
Today, I live in a small beach community in Florida with my husband and two dogs. Our kids are off to college and law school, which means my nest is empty! I spend my time writing, working with the kids at my church, enjoying my husband's gourmet cooking, and hanging with my many writer friends. Of course, I love to read. I’m still crazy about words and stories and hope to write at least a hundred books in my lifetime. And, yes, verbs are the key to life. My favorites? Love. Work. Believe.
Sage Valentine's roommate was found dead in their apartment, ruled a suicide. Unconvinced, Sage reaches out to her estranged aunt, Lucy Sharpe (owner of Bullet Catchers), to help her investigate. Frustrated when Lucy confirms the cause of death, Sage, an investigative reporter, decides to go it alone. Lucy assigns Johnny Christiano to go undercover and protect her niece.
The thrill seeking aspect of the story tied to the NBA dance team added a sinister element and it was confusing as I tried to figure out the motive of the villains. It was still interesting and I really liked Sage and Johnny as well as their relationship. And, we learned quite a bit more about the enigmatic Lucy Sharpe. Though the plot was a bit convoluted, I enjoyed the story.
This book has a unique, original plot and it is not revealing much as the book progresses. The hero, Johnny and heroine, Sage are wonderful together, although lies and misconceptions play a real part in their mating dance. They are both intelligent, witty people who are able to overcome their individual pasts when lives are on the line. This is a fantastic series and I literally devoured this book in a day.
When Lucy's estranged niece comes to her for help, Lucy finds herself with an opportunity to heal a 13 year old estrangement. Unfortunately, she can't give Sage the help she wants and Sage leaves even more bitter than before. Sage's roommate had died of an overdose and Sage just can't accept that. She is convinced that the vibrant Keisha didn't die by her own hand and that the Snow Bunnies, the dance group for Boston NBA team the Blizzard, which hooked her up with takemotonite.com as a team building exercise had a part in it.
When Lucy is unable to uncover any deep dirt on the website, Sage decides to do her job as an investigative reporter and investigate. Although she found nothing implicating the website, Lucy assigns Bullet Catcher Johnny to protect Sage. He is instructed that under no circumstances is he to reveal his connection to Lucy. Makes it kind of hard to do the job of personal protection when the principal doesn't even know she has it. Johnny ends up with the cover of a male prostitute from the takemetonight.com site. Johnny owes his very life to Lucy and will do whatever is necessary to fulfill this assignment. What was not necessary was falling in love with Sage.
Take Me Tonight, is the 3rd book in Roxanne St Claire's sexy and funny Bullet Catcher Series.
This story has the cutest couple ever. Johnny Christiano is a Bullet Catcher bodyguard...yes, he's sexy, hot, dangerous and totally delicious. Sage Valentine, investigative reporter, sexy, tenacious and the niece of Lucy Sharpe, the boss lady of the Bullet Catchers Agency
When Sage's roommate is found dead, she does not believe that she committed suicide and when her Aunt Lucy refuses to help her look into the death, she decides to take matters into her own hands....
Lucy dispatches Johnny to keep an eye on Sage.......which he does and keeps more than just his eyes!!!!
These two have a great chemistry and the banter between them is absolutely fabulous.
The plot was at times a bit far-fetched but hey.....not that bad to make the story too unbelievable. It had funny moments and beyond absurd ones too........but I enjoy it all!!
Web sites of weirdness - kidnap yourself and then get saved at the last moment.....really, I kid you not. Creepy characters......high kicking cheerleaders at National Football Games, Mafia families....sexy bodyguards...........what a ride.
What amazed me.....right into the very end, I had it totally wrong about who the bad guys were and what exactly where they doing.....the author was pretty clever in keeping that HUGE revelation right until the very last moment.
The character development is really good....we getting to know more about the Bullet Catchers and their boss...Lucy Sharpe is a pretty interesting character and I am looking forward to finding out more about her past.
This is another easy and quick and very enjoyable read.
The heroine, Sage, IMO was TSTL. She's supposed to be this hard-hitting investigative reporter, but really all she did was interview a couple of cheerleaders she already knew...oh, and signed up to be kidnapped by the very site she believed was responsible for the death of her roommate... without telling anyone she was doing it! Yeah... that's smart. *sarcasm*
Then when Johnny, her "rescuer" came along. Yeah okay, she questioned Johnny's identity numerous times and the fact that he came outta no where, carried a gun and was seemingly trying to move in with her after day one, but then she just like shrugged off her inner warning bells and jumped into bed with him anyway then tells him all will be okay as long as they are honest with each other... she gets an F for observation as clearly she hasn't been paying any attention to the secret-shroud man of mystery who's been following her around like a lost puppy... with a gun!!! At one point I was wishing I was reading an entirely different genre where Johnny really was a bad guy & wanted to do away with her just so she'd learn a valuable lesson!
Moving on...
Johnny... I'm sorry, but he was so cookie-cutter b.o.r.i.n.g. He had potential given his mafioso past, but all that came from it was "once a wiseguy, now a loyal, smart, funny, charming, and lets not forget gorgeous specimen." No layers. Just... blah. Don't get me wrong, he was plenty likable, but then again the heroes in this genre always are. Really the only characteristic that sets him apart from all the other faceless genre heroes in my mind is the fact that this guy had a serious food fetish. LOL So weird...
2.5 stars. Cheesy and not particularly memorable, but it's a light read and not a bad way to pass a couple hours when you're bored.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I call those books for inbetween, when I'm not really sure what to read next, cos they're good entertainment and I really like the first 2 books, so I had my expectations and when I read the first scene between Lucy and Sage I thought I won't be disappointed, but - oh hell - was I wrong.
The only thing that kept me more or less reading it, was the crime to solve. I was curious about what was really going on with that team of cheerleaders and had one suspect guessed wrong, but for the two main characters I couldn't care less.
Did Johnny ever appear on the other two books, if so I know why I didn't kept him mind at all. He was not an interesting hero as he was portrait. He felt "blah" to me and even if everybody on that agency is supposed to be sexy, he wasn't my cup of tea and don't get me started on the Australian who appeared at the end. I know taste is different, but long wavy hair on a male gives me very weird pictures in my mind, which are far away from hot.
And Sage. She was a strong, independent investigative journalist, but all she did was asked "pushy" question to Johnny. Yes, I know he was shady and avoided a lot of questions, but why did she let a stranger into her life in the first place? She could have kicked him out for good, after she tried to seduce him with sex to give up some information, which I didn't like either. Made her look very desperate and as the woman she was supposed to be she could have chosen differently.
The only good part were the scenes between Dan and Lucy, they made the last couple of pages readable.
Synopsis Sage Valentine is determined to discover what role a thrill seeking website played in the shocking suicide of her roommate. Organizing her own "abduction" seems the way to go, only things don't go as planned when her hired "rescuer", Bullet Catcher Johnny Christiano, turns out to be more than she can handle.
Review Light and fun.
Johnny and Sage are great together and they certainly know how to steam up the windows. Sage is intelligent, resourceful and cool under pressure but it takes her too long to figure out who Johnny really is despite the clues staring her in the face. Johnny is sexy and sweet, and if that isn't enough, he can cook too. His family background is intriguing but is, unfortunately, completely under-utilized in the story.
Although icky and disturbing, the concept of a thrill kidnapping site is believable and well done - some women definitely need their heads examined. The villain is super creepy but his identity is too obvious and his motive under-developed.
The writing is good and well-paced although the conflicts are resolved very quickly with no real confrontation. Nevertheless, this series is highly entertaining and I look forward to reading the next book.
Call it a favored bias, but I had a few superficial reasons for anticipating the third installation of the Bullet Catchers series, Take Me Tonight. Pretty much everything should have aligned properly to make this Ani’s favorite Bullet Catchers book:
-- The summary blurb, as per usual, was intriguing. -- Our Bullet Catcher’s name is Johnny and he’s a playful, flirty, Italian who can cook. (Have I ever mentioned before that a lot of the previous fictional male characters I’ve fallen in love with always got extra points for being able cook?) -- There was an underlying “cyber crime-ish base to this Buller Catchers installment’s mystery. -- The beginning of the book was equal parts intriguing and exciting and came on strong enough to hook me right into the story.
But in the end, while the beginning was decently laid out, the rest of the book started to teeter on typical clichéd scenes that readily made me frustrated and roll my eyes. Things did not play out productively, the progression was haphazard, and our main female character turned out NOT like the spunky, smart heroine I had been anticipating. Because, of all the TSTL things a heroine can do in any storyline, I think that Sage Valentine pretty much does it all:
-- Knowingly walking right into danger without any security or back-up plans. -- Pushing away her personal protection for the sake of her own stubborn grudges. -- Trusting all the wrong people and forcing away all the right ones. -- Continually painting a target on her own forehead when she knows someone is out to harm her.
There is a time and a place to bravely do your job and be fiercely independent and search out the truth. But then there’s also knowing how to be smart about being fiercely independent. Because I don’t hate that Sage is a smart, resourceful woman who can take care of herself and can get out of certain sticky situations; I don’t rebuff the fact that she is independent and a skilled investigator. I just always take issue whenever smart women become incompetent at keeping themselves safely out of danger when they have a world of resources to turn to for help, due to whatever misguided ideals they have about the meaning of being a strong, independant woman.
Why does being strong always have to equate to being stupidly heroic, or stubbornly martyr-ish?
Anyway...
The Story: Sage Valentine’s roommate has died and Sage suspects foul play to do with a thrill-seeking website that Keisha Kingston has been participating in: takemetonite.com. Apparently there’s a new trend of role playing in real life and real time where women pay to get the full package thrill of being kidnapped and then rescued--they also come with some sexual perks on the side, of course. (Yes, I’m rolling my eyes too, but it’s a good concept for a Romantic Suspense/Crime Thriller, especially when these games lead to dead people and murder mysteries. I promise, I’m not morbid or psychotically twisted in any way--I just enjoy my crime thrillers as proper crime thrillers with intriguing premises.)
In order to find out what happened, Sage pleads with her estranged aunt, Lucy Sharpe, to help her investigate the matter. But Lucy claims that she has found nothing illegitimate or sinister behind the takemetonite.com website and that Sage would be best to leave the investigation to the police, especially since Keisha’s death has been ruled as a suicide.
Unable to let it go, and convinced that Keisha would have never killed herself, Sage books her own kidnapping with plans to question the site’s “kidnappers and “rescuers until she can figure out the truth about Keisha’s death (in an utterly TSTL move without telling anyone what she’s planning to do, despite knowing that her life could be in danger). And of course, being the all-knowing leader of the Bullet Catchers, Lucy knows what Sage has planned and she’d be damned if Sage ends up hurt, or worse, dead, because of her dogged investigations (which made me scratch my head about this since Lucy was fairly adamant that the whole takemetonite.com experience was a hundred percent legitimate and not life-endangering, but whatevs, now we have a legit reason for a bodyguard to grace the scene).
Enter Johnny Christiano, a young man Lucy had saved from his previous life of darkness and crime and turned into an elite Bullet Catcher. As someone who will follow Lucy blindly because of what she’s done for him, Johnny asks no questions when Lucy sends him to security detail on Sage without so much as an explanation or a fully-loaded file on the client and their principal.
And yes, of course, there are much more sinister workings going on to do with Keisha’s death as well as her fellow dance team members, the Snow Bunnies. And then on top of that, we’ve got a side conflict involving back-history between Lucy and Sage and betrayal and how Johnny is highly loyal to Lucy and thus we also get some typical “Romantic Angst at play.
Some Thoughts: The biggest surprise twist in this story was why the kidnappings were ending in dead women--why there was a crime thriller to begin with and why our resident “bad guy was doing what he was doing. It’s not the best surprise twist, but I would have never guessed the motive even if I managed to guess the culprit--it was... strange, really. The biggest disappointment (aside from Sage’s TSTL moments) was that the entire mystery was pretty predictable as to who was the “ultimate evil mastermind--the guy practically flashes neon when he’s introduced for the first time in the story.
And then the rest of the book teeters into typical Romantic Suspense formulaic outlining.
The only saving grace of this book was probably Johnny as well as the excitability factor. Because even though the crime thriller was predictable and even though I really, really tried to like Sage but failed, the book was written well and I DID like Johnny. I mean, he’s not really unique or outstanding or anything; and he’s definitely no Johnny Duane Reed, of course (but that’s an unfair comparison, because no one could EVER be Johnny Duane Reed, really), but he’s an adorable sort of broody alpha male and he can cook.
The romance was all over the place, but the development wasn’t too bad. The rest of the background characters came off kind of insignificant and flat, or boring and annoying and irritating.
Overall Thoughts: I’m sorely disappointed that this third installation of the series didn’t really do anything for me. The first book of the Bullet Catchers was a real hook, line, and sinker; however, the books just keep getting more frustrating as the series progresses. Fortunately, they are written well and have a good enough dream team for me to still be considering following the rest of the series.
'Take Me Tonight' has an interesting storyline regarding a reporter, Sage whose roommate Keisha has supposedly committed suicide. She discovers that it's linked to a fantasy website in which women sign up to be kidnapped and subsequently rescued. Unfortunately, everything else in the story is a complete mess.
One of the things I really dislike in any book is the misrepresentation of characters. For instance, Sage is described as someone who's smart, strong and tough but all of her actions indicated otherwise. As a reporter, she's nothing special. She asks questions but she doesn't really show aggressiveness or the intelligence to manipulate someone into giving her information. Besides that, she constantly makes stupid decisions which endanger her life such as going to meet a stranger on her own and following a guy without any precautions such as a weapon or letting someone know her whereabouts. She's just plain stupid and I can't accept that she's supposed to be kickass when she's not at all.
As for the love interest Johnny, he's stereotypical just like the guys in the previous books. He's too good to be true - good-looking (obviously), caring, quick to react, smart (compared to Sage) etc. Of course he has to have a mysterious sort of past and he has to have secrets. Their relationship was completely unbelievable and just seemed to be lust, even though we're led to believe it's true love. How can I believe that when the two of them constantly gush about how hot or sexy the other is?
The mystery aspect was disappointing as well. It was quite obvious who the guilty party was and too many pages were wasted on Sage and Johnny who were both boring together. Overall, 'Take Me Tonight' was a dull read featuring an incredibly irritating and incompetent female lead coupled with a boring male love interest.
Enjoyed this book way more than the first and second books. Better hero and heroine all the way around.
Sage Valentine is a freelance journalist (aren't they all) and life is just peachy until Sage's roommate "commits suicide." But Sage is determined to find out what really happened to the bubbly, full of life cheerleader. So Sage goes to her estranged Aunt, Lucy Sharpe for help.
Johnny Christiano (half Italian) is loyal to Lucy; and Lucy knows Johnny won't ask questions about his assignment. So Lucy send Johnny to protect her niece. Sage and Johnny automatically feel a connection between each other. And so they set out together to find out what really happened to Sage's roommate.
Johnny was great, loved him! I was laughing when Adrien Fletcher, the Australian, came into the picture. "...who the hell are you-Crocodile Dundee?" :D His book is next.
An interesting story with some exciting action but I didn't like the progress of the romance, the key element of trust was not developing. Sage questions her roommate's suicide and gets involved with Johnny when she investigates the situation.
Description: Sage is so beyond determined that she is obsessed with her roommate's "suicide". Was it suicide or murder? And if it was suicide, what could have caused her upbeat, bright, motivated, and successful friend to take that final step. She's certain that the thrilling and fake abduction fantasy site that her roommate had signed up for is connected to all the answers she seeks. So Sage turns to the one person she never wanted to see again for help - Aunt Lucy Sharpe.
Enter the Bullet Catchers with Johnny. He has no idea why he was assigned this case or its connection to his boss. He just needs to fake being the rescuer for this website and then protect the principal. Easy. Except is seems that everything isn't as cut and dried as Lucy made out. Sage might actually be in danger and it definitely revolves around the roommate. Now the two of them are in deep and only sinking faster as professional lines blur just what is the job and what is real.
Actual review: I loved this book. Between sexy Johnny cooking it up in the kitchen and the bedroom and Sage's unwavering focus and dedication, they have this wonderful push and pull relationship. I adore Sage being upfront with Johnny about how she feels on everything from his "job" to family. The way that the relationship developed was more than satisfying. Yes it takes place very very quickly, but the depths that revealed to each other more than made up for the short time period.
On the subject of the roommate's mysterious demise, from the back of the book I was pretty certain going in that this was not going to be a suicide. I was, however, completely oblivious on the why she died regardless if it was suicide or murder. I am happy to say that I did not figure it out until it was actually revealed. Thus the reason I bumped this from 4 stars to 5. I adore a well written mystery that I have to go back through a second time to really see the foreshadowing/hints and yes there actually are some. The villains are pretty obvious (especially because we see some of their point of view), but the motivation more than makes up for all of that.
Overall: A truly satisfying mystery with more than enough plot, thrills, and romance to keep me glued to the pages. Highly recommend.
Sage Valentine followed in her mother's footsteps and became an investigative reporter. While she is out of town, her roommate supposedly committed suicide, but she doesn't believe it. She believes her death was related to website, Takemetonite.com, in which women pay a hefty fee for a fake kidnapping (sort of like in the broadway show The Fantasticks). When she turns to her aunt Lucy, who she hates, because she holds her responsible for her own mother's suicide, she is discouraged from the investigation. Aunt Lucy is the head of Bullet Catchers and knows her niece won't be discouraged, so assigns Johnny Christiano as her bodyguard, not telling him about their relationship. She signs up for a kidnapping, hoping to not only find out the truth about her roommate, but also to write a story. He steps in pretending that he is the white knight so he can watch out for her. While there is a hot attraction between them, neither expects the danger and intrigue that quickly surrounds them, or the desire that develops between them.
Sage is Lucy Sharpe’s niece, and an investigative reporter. Lucy owns Bullet Catchers, and assigns one of her men, Johnny, to go undercover and protect Sage from herself as she investigated her roommate’s suicide. Johnny goes undercover as a male prostitute, that her niece hires, with the directives to not sleep with her. Yeah, okay...
There were many factors that didn’t add up to me, and I didn’t like that I figured out the ‘bad guy almost instantly.
However, my biggest issues were with Sage. As an investigative reporter she didn’t seem to figure out Johnny for a very LONG time - even though there were many things not adding up with him. And why, WHY, is Sage okay with a complete stranger basically living with her? Especially when she’s pretty sure her roommates suicide was a murder and this guy has mysterious written all over him? And he’s a prostitute (she thinks), which Sage finds icky.
The pacing was good, and there was a good mix of suspense and romance. Book could have been better, but was entertaining.
First let me say it was a great suspense and mystery, and I couldn't put it down. BUUUUT, the main H had to lie to the h the whole book to keep her protected, and by the end of the book she found out the lies and reasons for having them so they were essentially lies for no good reason, but by then I just resented him for lying for so long and for stupid reasons. I'm probably the only one who will have read this book and had this reaction. I would give a5 star rating of i liked the H, but I just didnt. He CHOSE to lie. Some will say it was for what he felt was a good reason, but I disagree. There was just soooo many lies. At some point you have to decide the person you love should deserve the TRUTH, and not more lies to spare their pathetic widdle heart. Sorry, it just pissed me offf. Lol
Johnny and Sage, and boy can he cook! By the time I finished this book I was ready to order in Italian . . . or an Italian. Such chemistry and danger. Both a trademark of Roxanne St. Claire. This third book in the Bullet Catchers series is mmm, mmm yummy!!
Roxanne St.Claire is a genius when it comes to these Bullet Catchers! I just love her series! Take Me Tonight is the third (3rd) book in her Bullet Catcher series.
In this St.Claire novel, Johnny Christiano, a Bullet Catcher with a (family) mafia past, is ordered to watch out for a young woman named Sage. But, what Johnny doesn't know is that Sage Valentine is his boss's niece, and Lucy (Johnny's boss) wants to keep it that way. Sage's roommate has just committed suicide, which seems very unlikely to Sage who knew the woman well. Sage wants to know what really happened and she wants vengence for her now deceased roommate and friend. So, Sage goes to her ex-CIA aunt, Lucy Sharp. Lucy tells her she can't help, and to stay out of the past, knowing it might come back to hurt her. Naturally, Sage doesn't listen to her aunt, who she hasn't spoken to in 13 years, so Lucy puts Johnny on her tail. Johnny is to pretend to be the "resucer" in a "kidnapping" gig put together by takemetonight.com, a web site for woman who want a sexual thrill. (Sage enlists herself in this website to get information about her roommate's death.) Johnny "saves" Sage, taking her back to her house, still pretending to be the savior from takemetonight.com. Knowing Sage would continue to try to get information, Johnny is ordered to keep his undercover identity and keep Sage safe. Sage easily falls for Johnny, even though his cover is less than savory. Johnny, who is Italian, woos Sage with his amazing cooking skills.. and a few other skills up his sleeve. Johnny finds himself falling for the beautiful journalist as well, even after learning who her aunt is.
Ok, I'm pretty sure you guys know I LOVE the Bullet Catcher series by now, but this book was so cute! Johnny was seriously adorable, and Sage was just enough bravery mixed with feminine sexuality to not get annoyed at her. (Because, common, more times than not, we will get mad at the women in romance novels for just jumping the guy, am I right?)

Bullet Catchers are an elite group of personal protection specialists ruled over by sleek and sophisticated Lucy Sharpe. They are called into jobs where expertise in guns, technology, undercover, surveillance, and, yeah, defensive physical moves are needed. Their clientele must be referred and is comprised of the upper cream of society. While they are supposed to be professionals through and through, sometimes getting close to their principal (protected client) means letting the principal into their hearts.
Johnny Christiano is completely devoted to the Bullet Catchers and Lucy Sharpe, who saved him from his Italian mob family. So he doesn't ask questions when he's told to interfere with Sage Valentine's fantasy kidnapping experience. But, he quickly finds there is a lot more to the simple assignment. Sage isn't a stupid women looking for a thrill; she's a journalist investigating the takemetonite website that arranges the fantasy kidnapping and rescue by a white knight experiences. She needs to find out why her happy roommate committed suicide the day after she was to have her own takemetonite fantasy. Also, Sage happens to be Lucy's estranged niece. Too bad, Johnny can't stop her investigation or keep his hands off of her. So much for being an obedient little Bullet Catcher.
Johnny and Sage have a huge amount of chemistry and a killer suspense story (pun intended). Both characters are shrewd and have intriguing histories. Plus, it gives more info on Lucy and allows a glimpse into her relationship with fellow Bullet Catcher Dan. Grade: B+
Lucy, who owns the Bullet Catchers Body Guard agency is thrown when her niece who hates her suddenly drops in and asks her for help. Her roommate died a month ago, the cause suicide, but Sage doesn't believe it, she things she was murdered and even has a direction to start in a kidnapping for thrills website. As an investigative reporter Sage feels like she can trust her instinct about her friend.
Lucy doesn't think there is anything to Sage's accusations, but because she hasn't been there for her niece she assign's one of her guys to protect her. Here is where things start to get real interesting, Johnny doesn't know Sage and Lucy are related, she is only a principle his boss wants him to protect, his boss who at one time saved his life by helping him out of a no win situation when he was young and his life could take a bad direction. You just know this hidden information will come back to bite them all in the ass.
As Lucy investigates while Johnny "rescues" her from a kidnapping sparks fly between them. Johnny stays with the cover but knows as the feelings between them grown he is in trouble. As all the secrets spill out you can hardly believe who is behind things and the reason for it.
As a side note I have to comment on the whole kidnap for a thrill. I am not sure if this is a real thing that is happening in the world, but if so these people need to get help for the screw that is loose in their head.
I quite liked Sage, she was tenacious and wouldn't let go of a story, Johnny was a bit dim way too much "ask no questions" for my liking although his cookery skills won him awards.
The story, whilst being wildly different to the previous ones, still appeared to follow the same pattern of having two separate criminals which muddied the waters. AND, yet again, one of the criminals was a close acquaintance I know I was yelling at my Kindle very early on "don't trust him!".
The plot, Sage (who is Lucy's niece) is an investigative reporter. Her wealthy flatmate has allegedly committed suicide instead of going on an organised "abduction" offered by a thrill-seekers website. Sage refuses to believe that her flatmate committed suicide and tries to get Lucy's help. Lucy has investigated and is convinced that the website is legitimate and that Sage's flatmate never made it to the arranged abduction apparently the drop-out rate is quite high! Knowing Sage won't let it drop, Lucy arranges for one of the bullet-catchers (Johnny) to be the knight in shining armour that rescues Sage, but she. Doesn't. Tell. Johnny. Why.
The plot kind of held together although there were way too many coincidences for my liking.
This is my favorite in the Bullet Catcher series. Sage Valentine's roommate was killed, authorities say it was suicide but Sage knows better ( or she thinks she does) She thinks it has something to do with the website that stages abductions. Sage is a investigative reporter like her mom was and will stop at nothing to figure out how her friend died and the weird happenings going on around her but what she doesn't realize is she's putting herself in danger. Johnny Christiano has it all, he can cook (amazing Italian food) he is sexy as sin and he's a protector (who wouldn't want him) but he's not available, at least not to Sage. Johnny was hired by her aunt Lucy Sharpe head of the Bullet Catchers ( security firm) and very protective of Sage but Sage wants nothing to do with her aunt for many reasons, which is why Johnny is undercover to get close to Sage and protect her, she thinks he's part of the website. This book has it all, action, intrigue, romance, hot sex and much much more. I thought I could figure the story out but it's twists and turns keeps you guessing. I read this book three times its one of my favorites.
