Ce volume fait partie d'une impressionnante suite livresque destinée à la programmation sous X Window et Motif. Ce volume est un tutorial consacré à la programmation X Window. Honnêtement, on a déjà vu pire ! Une fois ouvert, le livre est moins intimidant que de prime abord. Certes il fait tout de même 650 pages, mais les chapitres, organisés par thèmes (bitmaps, menus, dialogues, ressources, etc..) sont abondamment illustrés en code et en diagramme. De façon surprenante, si l'on considère le caractère encyclopédique de l'œuvre, le style est plutôt vivant. Cet ouvrage est à mettre en comparaison avec le bouquin d'Oliver Jones, de ce dernier comparatif, je sors le second vainqueur pour son coté pédagogique, mais de justesse. Il n'en reste pas moins qu'assemblé avec les 8 autres volumes, la masse d'information rassemblée est vraiment considérable !
