Ann Parker was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Her younger years were spent in Carrizozo, New Mexico, trying to keep up with her two older siblings, Carrie and Wayland. They told her she could only tag along “if she could keep up. Her fear of being left out created a strong determination in her formative years. That drive equipped her to keep pace with her siblings, who were six and seven years her senior. She also spent time bossing around her younger brother, Patrick. Her mother remembers Ann, just a kindergartener, instructing two-year-old Patrick to recite the pledge of allegiance. Patrick definitely had a hand in developing Ann’s love for teaching.
Ann’s family moved to a small West Texas town, Sonora, when she was just ten years old. Sonora proved to be a nurturing, idyllic place to grow up. Ann enjoyed being involved in as many activities as time would allow. She especially loved the competition of basketball and track and forging friendships with teammates that have lasted throughout the years. The people of Sonora helped develop her faith and convictions that have shaped her life.
Her education continued at Angelo State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. During her time at the university, she met Shon at Casino Night. After a brief courtship, they married while she was still in school, and he was beginning his career in law enforcement.
Ann taught third grade for two years at Water Valley Elementary before Kyle was born. At that time, she and Shon decided Ann needed to be a stay-at-home mom. Three years later, the family grew with the arrival of Jared. After nine years, Shon left the San Angelo Police Department to work for the Texas Department of Public Safety. This change led the family to move to Big Spring, Texas, which was close to Shon’s hometown of Ackerly.
Over the years, Ann went back to teaching elementary and eventually taught high school level mathematics. Shon and Ann both got their pilot licenses, which created a new opportunity for Shon’s career. They lived in Alpine, Texas, for a few years, followed by a time in El Paso. After twenty-eight years in law enforcement, Shon retired, and the couple made the most daring move of their life.
Ann’s writing developed through the telling of their many Alaskan adventures and misadventures on Facebook. Her friends and family loved the stories, asking her to continue writing about life in the land of the Last Frontier. Because of their solitude, Ann especially enjoyed the interaction from her friends, even if only online. Throughout this process, an unsuspecting author and this book were born.

When one of the committee members of a charity fun run dies it is first thought it is a horrible accident but as Abigail Summers and her ghostly detective agency investigate it is discovered it is a murder and more people could die if they don’t find the culprit. This is quite a fun little murder mystery with a unique supernatural slant. Abigail Summers is a ghost as is most of her detective agency apart from Hayley Moon the psychic medium who is the only person who can see them. Some of the scenes are quite amusing where you see the ghosts trying to interact with the living with no success. But there are a few emotional moments like the scene where Hayley helps a young boy ghost to pass over. This is the 4th book in the series but the 1st one I’ve read. I do think it is best to read the others in the series first because I did find it slightly confusing what was going on at the start which is the only reason why I’m giving the book 4 stars. Other than that the book was an enjoyable read and I will be reading the others in the series soon.

Abigail Summers and the members of the Deadly Detective Agency help their psychic friend, Hayley Moon and her husband PC Tom Bennett to solve a few more murders.

The first death is a member of the Fun Run committee who is killed after a meeting. There are various suspects, and the author keeps the reader guessing who it could be.

There are subplots in the story too. During the investigation, they find the ghost of a young boy who is suffering from amnesia and can’t remember how he died. Then we learn the background of a young girl from a previous book, and we discover why her story is so important. These extra snippets finally fit perfectly into place by the end of this well thought out whodunnit.

There were parts of the tale that made me laugh out loud and others that were touching and made me shed a tear.
This is a well-written murder mystery which I enjoyed reading.

The Deadly Fun Run, by Ann Parker.

I wasn’t sure what to expect in this book, but I was intrigued by the title so had to read it.
And what an entertaining story. I really enjoyed the premise of a 10k fun run with a twist.

When a committee member falls to her death, which at first appeared to be an accident. Enter the strange gang of sleuths who take on the case to uncover the truth.
Hailey is a medium and joins the team of investigators, who happen to be dead themselves.
Hence begins this cosy mystery murder treat.

I enjoyed this humorous, quirky story. Even the murders were presented in a tongue-in-cheek manner. I couldn’t help laughing at Betty with her misuse of words and the confusion they caused.
Great fun run shenanigans.

Recommended.

A fun and unusual read involving a group of sleuthing ghosts who set about solving their next case, that of the untimely and seemingly accidental death of the woman in charge of organising the upcoming village fun run. Falling off a ladder in an effort to fetch her cat from the roof of her house doesn't convince this suspicious troupe who use the fact of their ghostliness to listen in on conversations and be anywhere and everywhere at once. The author fleshes out the main plot with subplots that contribute beautifully to the whole. Light-hearted, witty, at deep at times, this novel and this series is certainly a pleaser.

The Deadly Fun Run by Ann Parker is such an entertaining read. It’s about a gang of sleuths who spend their time solving mysteries and murders. When one of the Fun Run committee falls to her death in what appears to be an accident, they discover she was in fact murdered. They set out, along with medium Hailey, to find the culprit and prevent another deadly attack. The also clear up a cold case, and find a new one, along the way.
The best part. The sleuths are all dead. Which is so convenient because they can eavesdrop on everyone, and this is a great way to gather evidence to solve their cases. Presenting their evidence to the police is a whole different matter, though.
I loved this book. Aside from being a cosy murder mystery, it is also full of humour—especially Betty with her wrong words and numerous double entendres.
Many, many brilliant laugh out loud moments.
Excellent!
