3.75 I am conflicted with this one. This memoir reads as a fast-paced action urban thriller with a morally grey character. Being a Bio-fiction allows the author some creativity with the facts.

It is an emotional journey from birth through trauma, abuse, involvement with drugs, surviving the street, getting addicted to making easy money, and becoming a young father and dog dad, with the police as villains. I loved the character's mom and their relationship and how brave she was standing up to an abusive husband.

In many moments, this novel got to me for the rawness, the honesty, and some losses... But... There are no redemption acts. The character changes many lives, sometimes for the worse, and feels sorry, but there is no redemption act apart from protecting himself and his close family... There are plenty of personal victories, though. Which I think is the core of this novel: you can start from nothing but get into the right path, education, staying away from major felonies, and focusing on personal success.

I loved the childhood and teen years more than the new adult and adult stories (but that is my personal preference).
