Searching for Valor

Rate this book
He’s a broken hero trying to hold it all together.

Rylan Cross has spent his life saving others, but lately, he’s the one falling apart. Haunted by his past and the betrayal of the one woman he thought he could trust, he’s drowning in alcohol and self-doubt. The pressure of counseling his teammates through their traumas is crushing him, and he knows it’s only a matter of time before he shatters.

She’s the woman who betrayed him—and she needs his help.

Isabella “Izzy Delgado never imagined she’d be back in Rylan’s life, not after a devastating mistake that nearly cost his sister her life. But now two children are missing, and Izzy knows that Rylan and his team are the only ones capable of finding them. If only she can convince him to set aside his anger long enough to help—and maybe, just maybe, trust her again.

Their last hope lies with each other—and a courageous K9.

As Rylan and Izzy race against time to find the missing kids, every step of the search drags them closer to the past they’re both trying to forget. But with Rylan on the verge of self-destruction, it’s Izzy—and a spirited K9 named Valor—who rally the team to bring him back from the edge. This dog knows only courage—and he won’t back down until he’s saved them all.

Searching for Valor is the explosive conclusion to the Redwood Coast Rescue series—a gripping, emotional rollercoaster of redemption, danger, and a second chance at love. If you crave edge-of-your-seat action, intense emotional stakes, and an unforgettable enemies-to-lovers romance, don’t miss this powerful final chapter by Tonya Burrows!

Sometimes, the universe throws a curveball. Yesterday morning, I woke up to an email from Amazon saying they canceled the preorder for Searching for Valor—just three days before release.

Their reason? They claimed I didn’t upload the manuscript in time. But here’s the kicker: I did. It was there, ready to go. Even the support person I spoke to confirmed it. Still, the system canceled the preorder, and there’s nothing they can do to fix it.

To everyone who preordered, I’m deeply sorry. I know how frustrating this is for you because I feel it, too.

But here’s the silver lining: Searching for Valor is LIVE NOW on Amazon!

Instead of waiting until the original release date, I uploaded it early, and you can dive into Rylan, Izzy, and Valor’s story today.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as I navigated this unexpected hiccup. I poured my heart into this final installment of the Redwood Coast Rescue series, and I can’t wait for you to experience it.

As always, your support means the world to me.

Happy reading,
Tonya

P.S. If you know anyone who preordered or was waiting for this release, feel free to spread the word! Let’s make sure no one misses out on Searching for Valor! 💖

Absolutely devoured this one. Rylan’s been there for everyone else the last few books (granted, it’s his job), and after glimpses of him and Izzy in the last book, I was dying for their story. The hurt and betrayal between them was rough. My heart broke for Izzy and the impossible decisions she had to make. I hurt for Rylan and how he’d taken on the weight of the world and was spiraling. I can’t even imagine the courage it took for Izzy to go to Rylan for help with how things ended between them, but he truly has been her safe place and they’re just meant to be. I love the way the Redwood Coast rescue fam shows up for each other and the way Rylan & Izzy show up for each other. I’m so sad to be done with this series–I’ve loved it all!

Rylan and Izzy, the last two in this series have a long bumpy road to get to their HEA, an ending deserved for both of them. It’s been months since Izzy betrayed everyone but her reasons were justified as any one of them would have made the same choice. She gets thrown into a case when one of her friend’s kids go missing and she doesn’t want the police involved. With no choice, she goes to Rylan for help to ask the guys at Redwood to help search for the missing boy and girl. She is not welcome but Rylan and the Redwood members will do what they can, kids are missing and it doesn’t matter who reaches out to them. Rylan is drowning, he is carrying the weight of everyone's problems, including his own but he doesn’t ask for help and no one notices…except for Izzy. The clock is ticking for the kids but Rylan is the one who is most in danger…from himself.and Izzy is willing to be by his side to help him…he just has to let her in and forgive her…and himself.
A great read with suspense, twists and turns, surprises and an emotional roller coaster with highs and lows that will have you reaching for the tissues. An emotional journey, Rylan, the steadfast counsellor who is the one who needs the most help finally cracks and succumbs to his demons.a journey that hits the lowest point…tissues please. Izzy, fierce, loyal and doesn’t give up, is the lifeline Rylan needs, no matter what others think, she is there for him. A bittersweet end that has these two earning their HEA, with forgiveness and love. Now onto the next and with the epilogue of what is to come.HOLY SMOKES CAN’T WAIT!!!

Solid ending to a great series!

I loved Izzy and Rylan's story--though it was difficult to read at times, because OMG were they both going through a lot! and things absolutely got much darker before they got better--their redemption arcs were strong and the HEA was absolutely lovely. Valor was, of course, the absolute good-est of all the good dogs (and it was well past the time when Rylan should have gotten his own dog!) Izzy's family was an absolute delight, and the teaser we get for the next spin-off series has me practically salivating for my chance to read it.

Since this is the final book in the series and the resentment toward Izzy by both the team and Rylan stems from events in the previous book ( ), at the very least I'd suggest reading that book first if you haven't. All of the series characters do show up here and some of their backstories are fairly relevant--seeing a "before" Rylan interacting with the team would be especially helpful--so though I wouldn't say you *have* to have read the other books before getting to this one, doing so would definitely give you a more complete picture of the group dynamics at play as well as the past events that are still shaping their stories now. (Also--the first book in the next series features a character we not only see here but also saw quite a bit of in an earlier book, so I honestly would suggest reading them all. You won't be sorry, I promise!)

I had planned on giving this book 5 stars until I got to the end. Why not call the last chapter the first chapter of the next book in Burrows' new series? Then I would have known not to read it. I don't think it can be called a cliffhanger. It was a plug for the next book, which I bet won't have this chapter in it. Then everyone will be confused. I haven't decided whether I want to read it or not.

Now to this book. Finally Ms Burrows was back to why I like to read her. The first 4 books in the series were great. The last 3 were terrible with cliffhangers. There was suspense all the way through. Izzy finally got her chance for everyone to really see why she did what she did in an earlier book. At that time, even I hated Izzy. But with understanding came liking. Ryan also finally understood that what happened in war was not all on him. I still never really understood why he was kidnapped by the bad guys.

Unfortunately there were a lot of grammatical errors. This made things difficult to read at times. I would have to reread the passage 2 or 3 times to see what was missing or what had been added. This messed up the flow of reading. Also, on one page, Grace was eighteen. On the next page she was seventeen.

All in all, I liked the book. Just stop with adding that last stuff. We can read the next book without being prompting if the author is good.

I wanted to give this story 5 stars. This is the end of the Redwood Coast Rescue series, and the author does a nice job with Rylan and Izzy's story, and, as she wraps up the series and its main characters' storylines. As always, the storytelling is fast-paced, plenty of tension and action, a little steam and a hard-won love story. Ms. Burrows has created so many wonderfully broken, heroic characters in this series--each struggling with PTSD, each struggling to find their new normal, and craving (though never expecting) happiness and love. But... there were so many technical errors--everything from a non-word popping up in the middle of a sentence, grammar mistakes, to a dog changing genders--that they pulled me out of the story more than once.

Tonya Burrows is a great storyteller--and yes, I went ahead and ordered the first book in her next new series that was introduced in the last chapter--but the editing was rushed, or simply needed someone with a sharper eye, perhaps.

At any rate--if you like tortured alpha military heroes, strong women, fabulous K-9 characters who are fully fleshed out, and fairly steamy romantic suspense--I highly recommend her Redwood Coast Rescue series.

I've loved Rylan since the very first time he showed up at RWCR. Izzy? Not so much.
BUT I fully admit to doing a 180 in regards to her. She is now one of my favorite FMCs in this series and we all know there are some seriously awesome women to compete with.

If this truly has to be the end of the Redwood Coast Rescue series, which I'm not prepared to think about yet, it is a grandiose one.
The characters are amazing, the storyline was awesome and I absolutely loved that Searching for Valor gave us one last closer look into the lives of all the other characters that already shared their stories.

And, as has become the norm with Tonya Burrows books, I have to rave about the last chapter in this book. Because the end is never just THE END with these books. It's a first glimpse into what's to come. And Oh. My. Fricking. God.

What an ending! I feel like I'm walking around with little hearts floating all around me. Not only was this a beautiful conclusion to an amazing series but it showed us what's coming next for a character I was so rooting for!

I was already excited for everything Tonya has in store for us this year. But a THIRD new series? Tonya Burrows, you've already made my year!

This is the final book in what was a super series and if ever there were two people who deserved a happy ending it's Rylan and Izzy.

Rylan is the RWCR' team phychiatrist, he's always listening and taking care of the guys and making sure they all know he's there for them. In doing so he totally forget to take care of himself and lately he's spiraling out of control. The feelings he had for Izzy were brutally destroyed when she betrayed him.

Izzy was a deputy before she was forced to make a horrible choice. She's regretted having to hurt so many people, especially Rylan, but she's trying to make things right again. Which isn't easy but she's not quitter.

When her friend asks for her help when her children turn up missing, Izyy and Rylan are thrown back together. She swallows her pride and asks for his and RWCR's help.

This book was centered more around the problems and healing of the MC's, the learning to trust each other again because even though things have gone really wrong, they never stopped caring about each other. I love how they didn't give up, how they worked to get things right again.

While this was the last book in the series, I'm happy the author has already given us a glimpse into the story of a character we already know.

When deputy Isabella 'Izzy' Delgado betrayed counselor RWCR and her deputy’s oath, she shattered her budding romance with counselor Rylan Cross breaking both their hearts and his trust. Everyone involved was angry at the disgraced deputy and she was racked with guilt. But when her best friend came by, frantically relating her children were missing and asking for help. Swallowing her pride, Izzy asked Rylan to get the team but she really wasn’t prepared for their anger or judgment.

Looking for a lead to find the children, the team quickly hits a brick wall. The hostility almost cowed Izzy but she thought she’d done the right thing then and now. A close look at Rylan told Izzy he was spiraling and within days, he was found after an apparent suicide attempt, his PTSD nightmare was overtaken by a dream of the missing children. Hurrying to get to Izzy at the hospital, he didn’t notice he was being followed until he was hit. It got extremely serious when the thugs took it out on Rylan’s new therapy dog, Valor! A good series wrap; this reader will miss this group of misfits and therapy dogs.

When you wake up still wearing yesterday's regrets

Rylan's book is brutal, emotionally devastating and heartbreakingly real. The trauma, the guilt, the pain and the horror are a kaleidescope of images that he cannot escape. Add in the pain of Izzy's "betrayal" and the knowledge buried deep down that she did exactly what she needed to, what any of his team would have done, what he would have done....intensifies the emotional tornado battering him and transforms it into a death slide straight to a pit of no escape, a pit of shame. This book wrecked me, I sobbed, cried, growled in frustration and in anger, but like Rylan I was so relieved to see hope, the pinprick of light at the end of the tunnel, the helping hand offered with no judgement or conditions, to see....Valor. A punishing final case for this series, but it also forces the team to face a lot of their demons, it offers healing and new hope in the form of the next series and a familiar face looking for redemption. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Loving the Redwood Coast Rescue Romances!!

Reading this story is like coming home. The characters are those we have met in prior books, and they are mostly ex-military with scars, flaws, protective natures, and for the right person totally romantic. The majority come with loyal canines.

The couple of our focus is reeling from events of the prior story. Izzy had to choose between her family and the Redwood Coast group. It was a sure death for her family, so she chose to save them. Rylan Cross, who has a prosthetic arm, and counsels many in the group, cannot forgive Izzy, as her actions put his sister in danger.

Another impossible choice needs to be made when the kids of a close friend are taken, Redwood search and rescue is on the task, but emotions are stirred, lives are at stake, and an intervention goes wrong. Danger, intrigue, soul searching, canines, romance, family and team all [play a role in this fast-paced adventure from this stellar group.

I have been such a big fan of all of the books in this series but this one is definitely one of my faves!
There is just something about how emotional and raw Rylan’s story with everything going on with him. And with him being the one counseling everyone in the crew, to see him hit rock bottom is just heartbreaking. I adore Rylan, this man has been through so much! They all have really.
I love how Zack and Anna recognize what he is missing in his life!
When Izzy comes to Rylan looking for help, it is not easy for him to forgive her for what she did. And none of the others want anything to do with her either. But, he clearly still has feelings for her and really wants to help. He just needs to convince the others.
This is where things get really interesting and intense.
Great storyline with just the right amount of suspense, steamy times, and drama. I will miss these guys and gals and their unique dogs so much, but am very happy Jax is going to be the start of a new series.

Searching for Valor tore me up as much as book 1 did. Heartfelt emotions, rage, grief, ptsd and the lack of trust. The words that came out of Rylans mouth to his team at that time.....wow! The lack of trust, being forced to choose and the steam, ouch. I rate this book on the plot. I wish the author had not been done a disservice canceling her preorders, this book definitely needed a little TLC. Except for the quick change for the FBI most you could look over and did not detract from the plot. A book that takes me into another world, makes my heart crack and gives me a HEA - Winner. Looking forward to JAX's story and the second generation Wilde's. Thank you for the advanced copy. Searching for Valor is the last book in the Redwood Coast Rescue series by Tonya Burrows. It is a standalone with interconnected characters and has a happily ever after.

Rylan Cross is a medically retired Navy SEAL whose mission went awry, wounding him in the process in more ways than one. He was beginning to settle in and he met Isabella Delgado, the sheriff’s deputy and before they could act on their attraction, a situation leads to feelings of betrayal.

This emotional story is Rylan’s story where he works through his pain while helping solved another mystery for the Redwood Coast Rescue. Some of the situations were tear jerkers and it was an emotional wringer to read through. Yet, it was heartwarming to see the healing and transformation and the successes.

In true Tonya Burrows fashion, it was fast paced and full of action as well as loving and healing.

Ms. Burrows must have been reading the wish list in my mind when she wrote this novel. All of my favorite things were included in this story: a Pacific Northwest small town setting, plenty of suspense, a wonderful found family of characters, some amazing therapy/rescue dogs, and lots of drama leading to emotional growth. I couldn't ask for more. This book kept me awake reading, and I wanted it to be longer just because I was enjoying it so much. Izzy and Rylan have such amazing chemistry, though the events of the past are just as powerful in keeping them apart. Between caring for their own and coping with some serious criminal activities, the Redwood Coast Rescue Team has its hands and hearts full. This book is the final story in an amazing series that I'm looking forward to rereading soon!

I was given an ARC and volunteered to write a review.

Rylan looked at his former commanding officer, and the line again blurred between past and present. He blinked hard, focusing on Shane's scarred face.

Rylan has dropped into a dark hole and can't seem to get himself out. The last "mission" with the rescue went completely sideways. He lost trust and his heart to a woman who betrayed all of his friends. Nothing is how it should be. And he has embraced all of his old demons.

Izzy literally blew up her whole world. She lost her job and just about every friend she had. Luckily, she still has her family. When an old friend shows up for help, Izzy is all in. But having to go back to ask for help from the people she betrayed is a little more than difficult. How can she get them to trust her again?

I love this story! The ways Tonay Burrows spins her Redwood Coast Rescue stories keep me wanting more and more!

I have loved this series and each book has just got better and better!

Rylan and Izzy had a great chemistry between them. I loved that Izzy felt she could still go to Rylan despite what had happened. She knew he would be there for her.

Rylan bless him was slowly sinking and needed someone to be there for him like he was for others. Yes he messed up and made mistakes, but he owned up to it. I love how the crew had his back and understood this.

A good suspense element to balance the blossoming romance. I also loved the chemistry between Izzy and Rylan.

My heart nearly broke for Valor! What an absolute trooper!

The ending has left me intrigued for another new series- I’m hooked already! Thanks Tonya for another 5 star read.

It’s always a difficult when you come to the end of a series you love. However, this last book in the Redwood Coast Rescue series is a cracking read.
Loved it, action packed with a redemption and forgiveness theme and villains you don’t expect and I read in one go. This second chance story for Ryland and Izzy has it all, and I mean all, right from the very start. As usual it has the brave RCR veterans and their partners, along with their canine sidekicks, and gives you a glimpse of the next series with canine friends too.

I received a review reader’s copy of the book, and I am leaving this review voluntarily

Rylan is a hot mess at the start of this one, spiraling fast and doing his best to alienate those that are there for him. Izzy's trying to find her new normal after her job change, then jumps to help her friend, which brings her back into contact with Rylan and those that feel she betrayed them. As you can imagine, there are lots of hard feelings all around, but they work hard to try to find the kids.

In doing so, a bigger problem is exposed and luckily they get the bad guys and save everyone. Along the way Rylan pulls his head out of his ass and does what he needs to, so that he can be as lucky as the rest of the guys and have a happy life with people that love him.

I’m sad it’s the end of the series. I loved all of Hess characters and I’m sad to see them go. I liked both of the MC’s. I don’t usually read books where the MC has an addiction problem and a few of the mc’s in this series had one, but the author did them justice. I really didn’t have a problem reading about it.

I hated Jax at first for obvious reasons, but I’m excited to read his story now. I’m excited for the new series.

Safety
No ow/OM drama at all. I got the feeling they only had eyes for each other even during their separation. No details are given at all about their past. Neither are virgins.

Searching for Valor is the latest installment in the Redwood Coast Rescue series by Tonya Burrows and I loved it!
It’s an at times emotional read with very well written character development.
I read it in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down! It brought tears to my eyes and had me on the edge of my seat. Filled with everything you want in a good book! Redemption and forgiveness, love and friendship and of course action and suspense!
And the best part is incredible Valor the dog. I loved to read how Izzy and Rylan finally got together and boy did they deserve a happy end!
Highly recommended!!
I received this arc from the author and this review is my honest opinion

Tonya Burrows hit it out of the park with Searching for Valor. Rylan is not a rock for himself like he is for everybody else. Izzy betrayed them all. They are drawn together and need each other in a bad way. I love a good redemption story. Izzy shows everyone her true colors while saving a friend in trouble. Rylan faces the truth about his past with since help from his family and friends. Can they figure out what is going on in time? This book has a lot of emotion, but it works into a happily ever after. I am sad this series is ending, but this was a great ending. I can’t wait to see what comes next from Tonya Burrow’s great storytelling mind.

I Love this series and the conclusion could not have been better, Ry deserved his own partner and Valor is perfect for the job....so attentive and loyal despite everything. Izzy and Ry needed to open their eyes though it would be great if it was not that difficult, both are protector and sadly those aiding other , supporting others are often the last to get help.

the investigation is great even if i did cry for Valor.

Really it's a must read, a moving one and i can't wait for the spin off

Seven star. Vets join together and have a rescue service going on they train the dogs they use for rescues

Ryland is the councilor in their group but he is starting to fall into PTSD habits and their is no-one to help him until Lizzy falls back into his orbit. He wants to keep hating her but can ‘t. Instead he falls in love again but still is falling deeper into the bottles and crashes. This story has action from start to finish. Stayed up to finish because I couldn’t put it down.

Wow! I absolutely loved this book. Amazing characters and wonderful plot. Very beautifully written and easy to read.

I read this book in one sitting and I couldn’t get enough, I loved every second of it. The chemistry and passion between Rylan Cross and Isabella Delgado was undeniable and sizzling. They were made for each other.

Overall I loved this book very much. If you’re looking for an enemies to lovers, romantic suspense then you’re going to love it.

Emotion & fustrations are running rapid & everything seems volatile. Rylan & Issy are full of emotional turmoil that hits you as you read. The pain suffered comes through so loud as they search for strength to get through. Danger & suspense had everyone spinning while emotions run wild. This pulls every character we love right smack in the middle as its take the whole team to fight the battles that they don't see coming. Brilliant end to this rescue crew! You will love it!

Great end to an awesome series

This book is wonderful, heart-wrenching to see Ry fall apart, inspiring to watch his “found family support him, and soothing as they reach their HEA. The mystery and action ties it all together. And of course there is Valor as dogs are the most amazing support who did make us try to be a better version of ourselves. Looking forward to the next series.

A brilliant end to a perfect series.

I have loved this whole series and with each one the characters have built a strong foundation for the next book.
I’m sad to see this one end but it looks like the next book with Jax getting his redemption in the new series will be as good.
The proof readers messed up with this one though and I was briefly confused that the FBI agent had changed sex and was referred to as he instead of she for quite a while in one chapter.

SO many emotions in this story! Rylan is struggling and cannot seem to escape the past. My heart hurt for him. Such a gut wrenching struggle and I found myself in tears several times for him. But with determination and grit and his team behind him, he finds hope and healing. Rylan and Issy's story is filled with tragedy and hurt but also hope. An amazing, page-turning story. This series is fantastic!

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. The last one in the series and that one is phenomenal. Not that the others weren’t, but - wow. Rylan Cross has so much going on in his life that he all but forgets about himself and literally drowns. Only when he overcomes his fury towards Izzy is he able to heal. Including Valor that is. A great story that reminds me a little of the Northern Rescue series. Absolutely great. To bad it’s over now and no more Zak and the others.
