Aurora returns from boot camp to a new assignment, an unwelcome roommate, and the increasingly amorous attentions of a certain vampire hunter.
College is starting, and so is Aurora’s undercover work at a network of swanky parties known as “Tastings for high rolling vampires who like their blood laced with fine wine. But Aurora’s not the only one on the prowl. An underground investigation is under way to find out who killed one of Anchorage’s most prominent vampires and Aurora is a prime suspect.
Vampire hunters, wolf shifters, witches, elves and Fae with humor, romance, snark and steam. I love bad boys with hearts of gold and heroines who kick ass.

Not just for teens, I'm in my 40's and have loved this series. These characters are absolutely relatable, there relationships continue to evolve, the series is full of action and absolutely keeps your attention throughout. Definitely 5 stars.
Please note this series must be read in order. If you have not yet read book 1, Aurora Sky, please see my review for that title.
Book 3, Bad Blood, picks up a short while after Book 2, Northern Bites. Aurora has been away at vampire hunter agent training camp for six months, and she's about to take a test to see if she passes and can finally go back home. Meanwhile, Aurora's past hunts are coming back to haunt her--not literally, but by at least one "family" vampire member, and a separate vampire--who she already knows--conducting an investigation into Marcus' death. Can Aurora evade those who are after and investigating her, or will the vampire hunter become vampire prey?
As if things with her job were not bad enough, more evidence comes to light that certain individuals at the government agency she works for may not be who they at first seem. Will they protect Aurora or do they have her true interests at heart? As part of her job, Aurora also has to once again work and get along with Valerie and Noel. But can she trust them?
Last but definitely not least the love triangle continues to flourish with both Dante and Fane vying for Aurora's attentions. But just who makes her heart beat faster?
Em Eldridge continues her well done narration in Bad Blood. Having not only the same narrator but also a narrator who makes a concerted effort to maintain consistent character voices across books really helps the listener settle right into the story. In addition, Bad Blood tests Ms. Eldridge's ability to deliver French phrases and French accented voices with the appearance of a French teacher who draws Aurora's suspicions.
This third book was a little slower in the beginning with so many plot lines tempting and tantalizing us with potential plot twists. However, the last quarter of the book really heats up with potential directions, from what Aurora really is to what she really wants to accomplish. My mind is swirling with possibilities. Now I can't wait to see which direction Aurora decides to take, and who she decides to align herself with from a friends and allies perspective. Nevermind, who she will ultimately end up with from a love perspective: Fane or Dante? I can't wait to listen to book 4, Hunting Season, to keep piecing together how Aurora's story will ultimately end.

Bad Blood by Nikki Jefford is the third novel in the series called Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter. This book continues the story of Aurora Sky, a young adult vampire hunter who returns home from a summer long boot camp having finally been trained to be the vampire hunter that she has already been “employed as. After a traumatic end to the previous year which lead to a betrayal by her friends and a murder of a prominent vampire, Aurora returns home with no one she can turn to other than her vampire fighting team. As she tries to come to terms with her changing relationship with the government agency controlling her life, she must also try to make sense of her relationships and keep her family safe. On top of all that, she is finally starting college and living on her own with a roommate.
As in the previous books, the concept of relating vampirism, fatal diseases, and blood types to the origin of vampirism and the method for killing vampire is one that I haven’t heard of before this series and I think it’s quite unique and interesting.
Overall, I enjoyed this novel. The plot was intriguing, action-filled, and tied in seamlessly with the previous novels. As before there is a lot of focus on how the relationships between the characters change. I thought it was well done here. The vampire hunting action was exciting and it was well intertwined with how Aurora’s relationships changed. I really like the unfolding plot-line and was not expecting all of the information that was revealed in this novel. It is intriguing and made me want to know more. The one thing that really bothered me throughout the novel was that for the most part I personally found the relationship between Aurora and her fellow vampire hunters to be frustrating. While there are hints at the other hunters/informants as having more depth, their behavior and Aurora’s flat interactions with them seems to indicate otherwise. Noel and Fane seem to be better defined. This novel was able to incite a lot of different emotions from me through the behavior of the characters, which is a good trait for a story to have.
The narration by Em Eldridge was good. While I’ve been finding Aurora’s voice a little whiny, and one of the hunters, Valerie’s voice, made me want to throttle her (which, I suppose might be the point), but in general the voicing for the characters was great. The production quality was good. I would recommend this novel to anyone who likes young adult fiction and vampire stories.
What I liked: Bad Blood continues six months from the ending of Northern Bites, skipping over the six months she spent at boot camp for the organization she now works for. Aurora has come through quite a lot of change since book one, and it's especially noticeable in this book. After what happened in Northern Bites she isn't quite sure who she should trust anymore (not that I blame her), or even what the truth is or who's been lying to her despite what she's being told. Of course, it's not like she can do anything but pretend that she's fine and that her head full of questions like such isn't bothering her as much as it really is. Despite the different pacing that this book took compared to the other three I read, there's an underlying feeling of everything coming together for a much bigger plot that is going to pull all these characters in. Quite a few things seem to be pulling things together (but I'm not revealing what) in a manner that gives hints about the brewing storm. I also enjoyed seeing how Valerie and Aurora seem to have come to some sort of an understanding since they're not completely horrible to one another all the time like before when things first started. I also like out latest addition to the "team", Selene. I enjoyed her part in this story and I can't wait to see what she brings to future books in the series!
What I didn't like: Melcher. He really did something to irritate me greatly in this book and it seemed senseless for him to do such. I don't want to elaborate on it, but if you read it, you'll see (but I mean, your level of concern about what he does may vary. It just hit a nerve with me)
Overall Review: A great followup to see what is going on with the characters at this point, Bad Blood has a way of promising more shenanigans in the coming books that will surely affect the characters. Although the pace was slowed down compared to the other books I've read so far, that makes me wonder just what exactly these characters will have to deal with in the near future. With everything that has happened not just in this book, but in the past books as well, you can be certain something is brewing under the surface and will come to fruition sooner rather than later.
Recommend?: If you've made it to Stakeout I hope you read this book so that you can see everything that's happening after those first three books, and pick up on the things to come for this series.

*MY Thoughts*
Before I dive into my review for Bad Blood, I would first like to say that I would recommend reading Stakeout (Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter #2.5) featuring Noel Harper, and Evil Red (Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter #2.6) featuring Valerie Ward, before diving into this book. You really should learn more about Noel Harper, and what happened to her, and why she has suddenly changed in Bad Blood, and why Aurora really doesn't much care for her at all because of something she did in Stakeout.
I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next! Lots of action and plenty of drama. I can see the plot growing and can't wait to find out how it all ties in!
Bad Blood picks up 6 months after book 2, Northern Bites, when Aurora was sent to boot camp. She's completed her training, and been away long enough for the suspicion to die down about her involvement with the murder of Marcus. Or so they thought.
Aurora comes home to find that everything has changed. Her mom is acting like a different person, Dante has devoted himself to her, and she has an awesome new place to live near campus. Things are looking up for Aurora Sky... until she meets her roommate.
Noel Harper. Former goth best friend that she caught with her ex before being shipped off to boot camp. Noel is no longer the sweet goth girl she once knew, now shes all bright colors and smiles.
Add in to the equation that Aurora is now friends with her former arch nemesis, her ex keeps showing up unexpectedly, Melcher has assigned her to a case she doesn't want any part of, and crazy vampires are popping up in every direction with a different agenda!
This was not a bad listen. I just feel that it was more of the same. I thought we would see more Fane, but we didn't. In this book, Aurora doesn't know what she wants to do with Dante. She cares for Dante and when he does nice things for her family. Aurora says her heart grows for Dante when he does nice things for her, but she questions if she wants more than friendship with him.
I just wanted more from book 3. Book 2 had a great cliffy so I was hoping that book 3 would blow me away, but it did not. Fane does show up early in this book to "explain" what happened between him and Noel, but it was all vague. Everything in this book was vague.
I think what else killed it for me with Fane was reading Valerie's story (EVIL RED) and her relationship with Fane being discussed. It is a turn off for me. I don't feel connected to either Fane or Dante. I think Fane is a wishy-washy hero, if he is even the hero in this series AND Aurora does not know what she wants to do with Dante. It is all wishy-washy. Maybe bring in a third "hero" so we get a fresh start.
Is Dante going to end up with Noel? Is Fane going to end up with Valerie because it seems like they had something special and that Fane really liked her as a girlfriend.
I love long series that continue, but they have to give me something, not just drag me along.
I am not sure if I am going to stop reading/listening to this series or if I am going to just take a break from it.
I bought this book along with the entire series at a gift shop in downtown Seward, Alaska. I am a blogger @ The Paranormal Bookshelf. My review is completely my own with no bias of the author.
Category: Young adult paranormal romance Paranormal genre: vampires 5 out of 5 stars!
First I should say, I loved this cover. It was so different than the others and it goes along with the story so perfectly (no spoilers). Here we have Aurora Sky and her band of friends and family gearing up for the third installment of the Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter series. Like books 1 & 2, this book did not disappoint but rather draws your attention in as a reader even more so. This book goes further into the multiple changes in both character and mentality of our main heroin, Aurora. The background/setting of the book, Alaska, is once again portrayed wonderfully and will have locals and non-locals alike wanting to take a stroll in her shoes. I highly recommend this book and the series, it is highly addictive.
5 stars for Bad Blood by Nikki Jefford. This is book 3 in the Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter series. I want to note that this series must be read in order or you will be extremely lost. This book picks up a little while after book 2 ended. Aurora has been at boot camp. It is now time for her to go back home, got to college and face everything that happened before she left. That means facing Noel, Fane , Dante and the agency again. This is were a love triangle between Aurora, Dante and Fane starts to present itself. So I don’t wanna spoil stuff so I’m just gonna say this book has drama, action, love triangles and suspense. I am heading into book 4 now.
I am binge reading this series, it is soooooo good! I am new to this author but I have already read First three books in the series and all of the Wolf shifter series! She has become an all-time favorite! I highly recommend :-)
Poor Aurora. At 18 years old, the biggest challenge she should have right now is juggling boys, college, and which parties to attend. She shouldn't have to worry about killing vampires, about conspiracies and lies, or trying to stay alive long enough to celebrate tomorrow. But she does, because that's her life. As a vampire hunter born with a special blood type that is lethal to the vamps, fun and simple went out the window a while ago, right around the time some jerkface in a pickup truck ran her off the road (in book 1) and she woke up to discover she'd been enlisted in a supernatural fight she wanted no part of.
The last two and a half books (I'm including Noel's novella, Stakeout, which is an absolute must-read) in the series have been filled with all sorts of crazy. Aurora found and lost love, made friends and was betrayed by them, and of course, she had to kill. More than once. To say she has taken a bit of beating is an understatement, which is why, in Bad Blood, we find her at what can only be described as a crucial crossroads. Who can she trust? Which man holds her heart? What is the truth, and what is the lie? She's got a head full of questions and no clear answers, and in the meantime, she's supposed to carry on like everything is fine. Like there's absolutely nothing wrong in Aurora-land. That, as it turns out, is easier said than done. If there's one thing Aurora's learned since her vampire hunting life began, it's that there's always more crazy around the corner.
In Bad Blood, there's a lot less "kicking butt and taking names" than we've seen in previous Aurora Sky books, but that doesn't mean nothing's happening. Far from it. As I was reading, I got a very definite "pieces being placed on the chessboard" feeling. There are a lot of different subplots in play, things that have been building and brewing for the past two books, and everything that happens, from the tastings to Aurora's conversations with each of the other characters. is important. Even if you think it isn't, trust me, it is, and it certainly will be in future books.
I enjoyed seeing a more introspective Aurora this time around. She's still her usual snarky self, but there's an underlying seriousness to her in Bad Blood that we haven't seen in prior books. Things are really hitting home, and I liked that nothing was sugar-coated or glossed over. Author Nikki Jefford did a nice job putting Aurora through her emotional paces, showing us Aurora's insecurities, her doubts, her fears, and yes, the strength we've all come to associate with this character. Did I always agree with Aurora's responses to things? No, but I appreciated the honesty of her reactions. They felt genuine.
The love triangle aspect of the book, I wasn't so crazy about, but then, I'm a diehard Fane fan and if he's not on every page, stealing every scene, I'm usually the first person to complain (rather loudly, too, LOL). I freely admit to grumbling to myself once or twice (okay, a lot) over all the page time Dante got, but I also understood that it was necessary. Dante's an important person in Aurora's life, and while he will never be my romantic choice for Aurora (sorry, all you Dante fans), I can still appreciate what a great character he is. Fane, for his part, had more of a supporting role, but not to worry, fellow Fane-atics, our boy made his moments count, as he always does, and I can guarantee that he is going to play a much bigger role in the next book. (Can't wait!)
I missed Noel in this book. She's there, but like Fane, she has a smaller role to play. Also like Fane, it's clear she will be a lot more involved in the next book, which I'm very much looking forward to. And of course, a special shout-out must be made to Valerie, the series' resident redheaded vixen. She's still a witch, but she's our witch, and we love her. I also really, really liked Selene. She's new addition to the Aurora world, and I hope to see a lot more of her in the future.
All in all, Bad Blood was another great Aurora Sky read, packed to the brim with lots of goodies for fans to sink their teeth into. From the characters who practically pop off the page, to the snappy dialogue, to the tantalizing promise of even bigger and better things to come, it does everything a good book should. I'm already salivating for the next one. (Hear that, Nikki Jefford? WRITE FASTER, DANG IT!)

I just loved this book. Almost forgot how awesome this series is. Lol. There were some twist I hadn't seen coming at all, which make it that much better.
I just love Dante, and think Aurora should be with him. Fane is ok, but he never had been my favorite. I am glad that Aurora found out the “secret Fane has kept from her for awhile now. Not really till the end but still she figured it out, won’t mention what it is, if you didn’t figure it out yet, then you will find out when Aurora does. I had my suspicions early on, but now it’s confirmed.
If you hadn’t started this series yet, you need to now, especially if you like paranormal books with vampires and vampire hunters in it. These vampires are explained to be humans with a disease that only can infect a certain rare blood type (AB ). It’s a very different concept of vampires.
I do not want to spoil this, so won’t say much more. Just that its awesome, written very well, and I can’t wait till the next book, Hunting Season (Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter #4) but have to wait till fall 2014. Its too long!!!!!!! I give this 5 out of 5 stars. I am a true fan!
I was provided a copy of this book from the author for my honest review.
Cover review: 4 out of 5, the reason for me, is it’s so different than previous covers, the model is different, and I had pictured Aurora looking more like the girl on the redone book 1. The model used for this one, looks too old, and to me she doesn’t look like Aurora at all. The dress is a lot like described in a scene in the book, so matches that. I personally would have rather seen a more dreary paranormal type scene to fit the book better and what it is about. A girl in a dress could be a contemporary romance or any other type of book. Just too generic for my personal taste. As a cover alone, it’s done well, just not a good fit for this story in my honest opinion.
Bad Blood takes place six months after Northern Bites when Aurora returns from boot camp.
Aurora’s character changed a lot over that time, she has been toughened up. She’s not the only one that changed: her mom and Noel also made a considerable transformation.
It was interesting seeing Valerie and Aurora hanging out so much. They actually seemed to occasionally like each other. It was almost as if they were becoming friends.
Speaking of friends, Aurora and Dante's relationship becomes fascinating. Dante wanting a relationship with Aurora, the boy clearly has it bad for her. I love that he helped out her mom and grandma while she was at boot camp. Of course, Fane is still in the picture so it complicates things.
I love Dante’s dog, Tommy. What Melcher did really ticked me off, anyone who messes with an innocent animal is not someone I trust or have respect for.
Bad Blood has a great plot with a ton of stuff going on. The blood tasting parties are an interesting case. Plus, things are not finished with Jared and Giselle. They have cases to solve and personal missions to resolve. The ending left me wanting to start the next book immediately. Good thing for me, I had it.

"Bad Blood" is the best title thus far in the Aurora Sky series.
Aurora , an engineered vamp hunter, is on her way back from boot camp after a high profile kill. Back and ready to go she continues taking down the predators with her toxic blood. She is, excitedly, beginning her freshman year in college and wading around her feelings for Dante. OH! And her grandmother has moved home. A suspicious French teacher, her shady boss and his vamp sidekick, and some mysterious cravings make her wonder. What really happened that day on the icy road? An accident? What is really going on with Aurora Sky?
Series characters have stepped up their game here. I love that they have finally revealed enough history that readers can understand everyone a little better and gave them some depth. Relationships go crazy in this one, but I wouldn't expect anything less with a group of teens. Jefford writes just enough to make it enticing without making it boring and overdone.
This one is the game changer. The plot takes a major detour and leaves a great cliff hanger ending. I am very excited to what the next installment turns up.
Bad Blood is book three in the Aurora Skye Vampire Hunter Series by Nikki Jefford. This is a series that needs to be read in order. I also recommend that you read Stakeout, which is told from Noel's point of view, before reading Bad Blood. It puts things in perspective.
Bad Blood keeps the wonderful trend of action, angst, and romantic tension that I love about this series going strong. It has a story line that keeps me completely engaged in what's going on, and I can't wait for more!

I LOVE AURORA SKYE!!!!!!!!!! I ALREADY DOWNLOADED BOOK 4!!!
After boot camp, Aurora and the teams new assignment is going to Tastings...fancy Vamp parties where wine and blood are on the menu...well things from the past come back to bite them, no pun intended...and Dante gets kidnapped...Aurora learns some hard truths and old friends unite to save the day!!!
I admit, the series is good. It is humiliating to admit because there isnt anything in my age group to compare. It is a lot like admitting to like riding a moped. Will I read book 4 and more? Nah..
Just as I hoped, these books keep getting better. This is the 3rd book in the series and it was better than the previous two. For one thing, Aurora is getting better, she's getting along with Noel and Valerie. She has two guys wanting sex/romance with her. And the plot is well done.
Aurora is a vampire hunter and so are her friend Dante, Noel, and Valerie. Fane is a vampire but he and Aurora have this attraction to each other. In this book, the head of the "government" force sends Valerie and Aurora out of town with the leader, Jared, who turns out to be a vampire. They are sent to kill a family of vamps. Aurora hears things she shouldn't and she and Valerie try to save the two "kid" vampires from Jared. They manage to save one and then they get out of the area as quickly as can be.
Valerie goes rogue and doesn't go back to their town. Aurora goes home and that's when she begins to get suspicious about Melcher the "government" operative. He sends her to vampire hunter boot camp for six months. When she returns home, her mom is living comfortably with her mom (Aurora's grandma). Warning: those two (mom and grandma) are great characters when they share the page.
Things go bad pretty fast and it isn't long before Valerie is severely injured, Dante is kidnapped, leaving Aurora, Fane, and Noel to get to the bottom of the mystery/events.
This book wasn't perfect. It still seems sometimes (though not as often as in the first two) that the Author has story ideas in her head and she is trying to get them on the word program or on paper as quickly as she can before she forgets her ideas. The reason I say this is because she will write something and then quickly jump to something else without giving a full explanation of the first plot point. She did this much more often in the first two books of the series, so I was happy to see that she isn't doing it anywhere near as much. Maybe in the 4th book, she won't do it at all? We shall see.
All the characters (except mom and grandma) seem to have matured. Aurora is now attending college in between killing vampires and she appears much more determined to continue her education. Valerie is still a bit strange for unknown reasons. Dante is still the fun-loving wanna be boyfriend. Fane doesn't figure in the book much until the end. Speaking of the end, we are treated to a surprise (well not really a surprise because I suspected it in the last book). And the ending is cut off rather abruptly once again. But at least some of the loose ends were tied up.
Aurora returns from bootcamp and jumps right in where she left off. Dante wants her, Valerie wants her help in finding and killing Jared, Fane wants her, Noel is just kinda bitchy and superfluous in this one. Aurora, Valerie and Dante are sent undercover into "tastings" to gather information...even though Aurora is recognized and suspected of murdering a vampire, which makes her not undercover at all! I think I really started to give up on this was when Aurora thought that "Valerie wasn't half bad"...you're right she is all bad, just zero redeeming qualities. Everyone in this just kinda sucks...Aurora and Fane are ok. I may continue this series just to see what happens to Aurora but I am in no rush.
This book started out SO good. I didn't trust Dante, but I was excited to see where their relationship went. The messed up part is that after she said that she was going to give him a chance, she most definitely didn't. I actually hated everyone except for Dante and Tommy in this book. I did not give one single fuck as to what happened to Aurora. She was so annoying in this book, there were multiple times I thought about putting it down and not picking it back up. There was a lot of filler making it drag in places. I would find myself thinking about other things and not being able to focus on the story. Not really interested to see what happens next, b/c I'm pretty sure that I can guess.
This is a very entertaining series. The initial description in an ad made me immediately one-click: “it’s like Buffy meets Alias. This was an accurate description, and I’m totally invested in the series. In this installment, Aurora has taken a time out from Alaska after the events in the last book, and has grown as a hunter. I don’t want to give too much away, but it is a great continuation from the previous books in the series, and I’ll be getting the next one...now!
The only drawback for me was the fact this book is #3 and builds on the groundwork laid in #2 which did not read so felt the lack of doing so but not enough to need reading the previous work.
The story was good until the last reveal which kind of took this into not only a new direction for the characters but also ended up being the dreaded cliffhanger which all readers hate.
I think though that I am finished with this series anyway as it has gotten kind of too predictable as well as just not gelling for me anymore.
Aurora had never wanted anything lore than to just go to Notre Damn, and get away from Alaska, now she's been inducted onto service as a vampire hunter. Will she ever have a life of her own? We, as women often feel as though our lives are not our own....and or that we are powerless, until setting in us awakens. To save her life, Aurora must do the same. The characters, setting, and the writing style, make the story a fast easy read for an hour of escape from this mundane world.
This book had one steamy scene: in the beginning with interruption and no conclusion. If you’re going to tout your book being a romance then you’ve gotta actually put some romance into it. It says you could read this book as a stand-alone but I’m pretty sure there’s a book before this I’d suggest reading because I didn’t know half of the things that happened prior to this book or the characters... honestly I couldn’t get into it.
Another good Aurora Sky book . Each new book gets better. Vampires, action, romance and intrigue. Something for everyone. I would recommend this book to my family and friends.
I am on my third book and am enjoying every one. Very well written, and not filled with mistakes like a lot of books I have read. Characters are fully rounded out and have you engrossed to see what happens next. Might as well download the whole series.
This series keeps getting better and better with each book! Though not gonna lie, I really want to punch Valerie in the face. I have been devouring these books, they are a must read! If you haven’t started, you need to!
