A girl who has everything. A guy who has everything to lose.
Some things can't be
RUSHED
Alexis Like there has ever been any doubt which sorority my family expects me to pledge. I'm a third-generation legacy. On the first day of rush, I realize I'm in trouble. I'm not like the other girls in the house. But as long as my parents control my college funds, resisting is futile. Until Zach, the live-in houseboy, who's quite possibly the hottest guy I will ever meet, serves me a cupcake and flashes me a sympathetic look. With one enigmatic smile, he flips my heart and my world upside down. My parents will cut me off if they even suspect I'm interested in a house guy. But I can't stay away from him. And so I pledge the house for all the wrong reasons.
Zach Living in a sorority? I get flipped a load of crap about being a live-in servant, the help. Easy access to the hottest girls on campus? Not with the unbreakable rule—get caught with one of the girls and you're fired. Immediately. Lose this job and I can't afford college. I sure as hell can't ask my parents for help. They wish I'd never been born. Considering what I did, I don't blame them. I've learned to think of the girls like sisters. Until Alexis pledges the house. Now sister is the last thing on my mind.
*** Standalone novel. No cliffhanger. ***
This is a contemporary romance with mature themes, language, and situations. Readers should be over 17!

I received a digital copy of this book free from the author and netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
It took me a while to actually finish this book. I don’t know what’s wrong with me. Maybe this book doesn’t appeal much to me. The writing style of the author is hands on superb, but maybe it’s the plotline that didn’t entirely convince me to rate it higher.
Rushed is a typical contemporary book that mainly centers on two college characters living in a sorority house. I have nothing against sorority boys that work to serve the sorority house, but Zach isn’t a boy character that make me swoon. Alright, he’s incredibly hot and all but his character lacks something that I can’t figure out.
Alexis, on the other hand, is an okay character. But sometimes she’s too pushy and a little bit of flirt that she basically doesn’t care about anything other than to be with Zach all the time.
I think the setting and the way the sorority life was emphasized here is also not realistic. I mean, I haven’t been in a sorority but the rules and their way of doing things inside the sorority house seems a bit exaggerated.
The romance is good but I don’t think it really made me swoon. It didn’t pull out any emotion in me all throughout. The only thing that makes me like this book is the writing style of the author which is no doubt really good.
As I'm a British reader a lot of the sorority dialogue went right over my head. Alexis has been pressured by her parents to 'pledge'. When she meets one of the houseboys Zach and they have instant chemistry there is trouble ahead as if they were to date Alexis' parents would cut her off and they would both get thrown out of the sorority house.
Alexis and Zach begin a secret relationship and to help keep it secret Alexis decides to create a decoy relationship with Dak the estranged friend of Zach as Dak is also dating someone he shouldn't. However, Dak knows Zach's 'secret' and tells Alexis. When it is revealed I was a little surprised but could understand how it would have an impact on Zach's life but found the actions of his parents a little hard to comprehend.
This is a YA/NA type read. It didn't feel like a romance to me. It does have some sex scenes but nothing offensive. A great deal of the story revolves around the sorority so I found that quite boring and maybe this story is too 'young' for me. This is a complete story although I did feel like the ending was a little weak but then there will be another book I presume about Dak, so I think it's obvious Zach will feature a lot in that one from the 'stinger at the end'.
I'm kind of torn with this book, so I am giving it 2.5 stars. Overall, I enjoyed the concept of the story. That was what drew me in was this forbidden love and the hold-your-breath-moments of the story: Are they going to get caught now? Will they make it to the end? Will Alexis defy her parents? These are all good aspect of the story that made it an easy read and drew me in. I also enjoyed the characters. I feel like they were written well and I could picture them while I was reading. I appreciate when an author is descriptive enough to provide images with her words.
Zach was probably my favorite character in the book. He was likable and I understood his motives. Sure, there were moments when the scene was a little too corny or dramatic when it didn't need to be, but I still liked him. He was a houseboy and sometimes complains about how he is treated, but every time you question why he is there the author reminds you that he is there for the family aspect of it all. And it's so understandable. I just really liked his character.
On this flip side, I wasn't a huge fan of Alexis. If this book had to be renamed, I would name it "The Poor Little Rich Girl." There were moments when I wanted to slap Alexis while she whined about how hard it was to be the most favorite pledge and have everyone hand it to her .... *eye roll* ... I understood she didn't want to be the favorite and just wanted to feel normal, but it was annoying to hear her complain about being number one in all of greek.
Also, a huge issue I had with the story, which I know it totally me, so I tried to take that into account while rating this book, was the dynamic of the Greek system. Maybe this is how things work in Greek, but the complete acceptance of being treated like meat and purely a sexual object and being cornered and groped and sexually harassed, all because you are the hottest greek house and it is expected. Dear God, this was a huge HUGE issue with me. And I' m not a prude or anything, it just really bothered me. The girls laugh while they ask if they guys took her top off ... The girls ask why Alexis doesn't want to date Dakota ... Is it because she has a boyfriend? Or could it be .. *gasp* .. she's just not into him. Well it as expected of her so she went out with him anyway. Or how about when he tackled her and rubbed all up on her? Or when he took her to his room for a "tour" and grabbed her boob and gave a hickey ... I just couldn't get past it. But that may totally be me. If you are into the Greek system and have experience with it then you may love this book. Like I said, it has a good overall story and i did really enjoy that.
The only other thing that tripped me up was that I didn't really feel the connection between Alexis and Zach. I feel like their wasn't enough interaction or build up. They had a few interaction that caused that *spark* and all of a sudden he is spilling his darkest secrets the first time they are alone together. I just didn't feel it. The author spent a lot of time going into the process of being selected for the certain houses and I wish more of it was being spent on Alexis and Zach. Also there was a lot of Greek lingo. I'm still not sure what a Geed is, which can be frustrating.
Finally, the thing that made it a 2.5 for me the most was the ending ... I started laughing at how corny the ending was. I could have almost put a comedic spin on it. It just wasn't believable about how dramatic it was. I don't want to go into any detail because I don't want to spoil it but I just didn't believe it. Also, I wish there was some more summary at the end. What happened to Morgan? What happened to Zach and his parents relationship? I just wanted more resolution.
I would give the book a chance, especially if you are into the dramatic of Greeks in college. You might love it. I just don't feel like it was my cup of tea.
Rush week and the trials and tribulations of being a sorority pledge knows no bounds! NA genre with a spike of wicked and conniving brewed in with the kegs and hookups. I haven’t read one along these lines thus far, so it caught my attention. It’s a rather frivolous melodramatic romp full of angst and mean-spirited drama queens. Having had some experience with the rush agenda, I found this one a bit overwrought with exaggeration.
Being a third generation legacy for the most elite sorority on campus makes rush a hardship for Alexis. She wants the opportunity to be able to join the house that feels the most comfortable and fits her personality best. But the legacy issue and the elite sorority status is very important to her overbearing mother. Even though she’d like to choose a better “fit, Alexis resigns herself to taking the legacy bid and becomes a Double Deltsie. And immediately locks horns with one of the members.
It’s during rush week that she encounters Zach a/k/a QB1, who serves as a live-in houseboy. Zach tries snubbing her even though they share an immediate attraction. Zach knows the rules though. Getting caught with one of the Double Deltsies means he’s out of the house without a job and, if that happens, Zach won’t be attending college because he needs the job desperately to pay the balance of what his scholarship doesn’t cover. Zach is probably the most interesting character of the bunch. He’s saddled with some family problems that make his life pretty uncomfortable.
And then there’s Dakota, QB2 he’s the President of the most prestigious fraternity on campus and he and Zach have a rather dark history. They were once-upon-a-time best buddies and both football heroes at the same high school. Dak needs a “fake high-profile girlfriend on campus . . . and Alexis may be the ideal candidate. You’ll have to read the story to find out why because I’m not giving away any spoilers.
Now both Zach and Dakota have their eyes on the same girl - a very strong-willed and not-to-be controlled Double Deltsie. And Alexis has eyes for only one of them and will stop at just about nothing to get him.
There’s a web of secrecy and hurt that runs through the storyline but, for the most part, it’s campus life and all the out-of-control antics that go along with Greek life and its rules and regs and parties.
This book is so totally infectious ,i was loving every minute of it from the beginning to end i didn't like so much that at the end everything went by like a roller coaster although its exhilarating and fun ,it goes by to fast.
Zach was adorable although a little depressing, and that is very understandable given his circumstances, and that made him all the more adorable because you felt his pain ,and you just want to hug him and comfort him . I also loved the way he was with all the other girls in the sorority like a big brother it was so cute and sweet. And how Mrs.Gina introduced him yowza !! Made me wanna get a cold cup of water with some yummy cupcakes lol.
My absolute favorite thing about him was how he was with , Alexis totally in to her and nobody else .
"Maybe i want permanent proof i bled for you"
" I'm a fool for you pledge"
" she was mine " Seriously adorably cute i know !
And Miss. Alexis ,was like no other girl she was very independent girl that knew what she wanted and nothing would stand in her way to get it she was a determine girl and i loved her for it . She made Zach a whole new person ,how she showed him love made him ,i believe see his life in whole new happy way .
Uhhh and that Morgan girl dear lord ,was she horrible ! Am not so sure how Zach was even remotely nice to that skank! Always making there lives miserable .
It was a very entertaining book and i enjoyed every minute of it so i gave it 5 rushed stars!
Rushed was a enjoyable summer time read! I wasn't too familiar with Sororities or the process of rushing so reading this part of the story was interesting. The author was very descriptive throughout the story which I loved because it felt as if I were watching a chick flick!
Alexis is your blonde sorority girl who we follow throughout the story as we gain a insight into her world while rushing. Zach is the houseboy who she is not supposed to date but cannot resist.
I loved the characters of Zach and Dakota. Although, I wish there would have been more development between the main characters Alexis and Zach before they declared their love. It was wrapped up a bit quickly but I loved the two main characters together.
Morgan was a great villain. She was the mean girl that you have to watch out for. Dakota was also a great character, I empathized with him and I believe he may have his own book! I cannot wait to read.
This story included a few secrets that I cannot give away but this is a book that once you get your hands on you're hooked. A fun summer read! Thank you Gina Robinson for allowing me to read and review!
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
I almost DNF'd this book many times. I kept reading because I agreed to review the book. Funny that one of my least favorite things about this book was the depiction of sororities. I was a sorority girl in college and this book gives sororities a bad name. But that wasn't the real problem with this book.
The problem with this book was the writing! The dialogue felt forced and for a book written in 2014 I couldn't get over the way these people talked. But that is an issue I have with other books, too.
The story had great potential but execution really lacked. This was told from two points of view - guy and girl. Of course the main characters both had issues. And then there is the love at first site. Seriously drives me crazy when characters say The L word after knowing each other for 2 days. There just wasn't enough chemistry here for that to be believable.
Also, not sure if this was a pre-publish copy or not but if not then the author should really fire her editors.
I did however like Zach, the main guy character. But his back story was just too much.
I like Gina Robinson as an author. Her writing and use of language is excellent, her plots and pacing are tight, her characters are extremely well-written and it's easy to like the likeable characters and dislike--but still have some sympathies for the unlikeable ones. That's why I gave this book 2 stars. Had she not been such a gifted writer, I would have given this book 1 star.
I really disliked this book based on the premises on which the story is built, the school environment, and on the actions of the characters during the story. My issues are around the fact that the collegiate "Greek" system is integral to the story.
If you are a member, supporter, or fan of the Greek system, then please take my bias into account. As I said, the author is very talented and you will probably really like this book and this series and it will probably bring back fond memories of your college experiences. You should definitely read this book.
If you have issues with the Greek system, don't read this book or this series. You won't enjoy it, you will be offended, if not outraged, by some of the things that happen because without that culture to set up the environment in which the characters exist, the tensions that are required to make the story move forward would not be possible. Please go ahead and read Robinson's other books, all of which take place after the characters are out of college and are all very enjoyable reads.
It was a fun read. The concept of forbidden love and the excitement of being caught is always a pleasure to read.
Zach was my go to character his actions were justified and motives true and I also liked Dakota though his intentions were questionable but I felt poor for the guy I wasn't a huge fan of Alexis . But she had her moments. Alexis is a pledge she had no doubt she would get into the sorority and Zach is the houseboy.and they aren’t supposed to date but they cant seem to stay away from each other.

Rushed is a New Adult novel by author Gina Robinson, who is new to me but has already written more than 10 novels. Rushed is a standalone but the story takes place on a campus the author has already used for one of her other trilogies featuring the same heroes: Reckless. As for Rushed, I think the author is going to write a sequel with some of the secondary characters.
Gina Robinson writes historical, contemporary and new adult romance. She has been published since 2008 and is not translated into French.
I had some difficulties at the beginning of the book, because it is what I would call a real New Adult. I’ll explain: usually, in a NA, the setting is in the background and the relationship between the heroes and their friends is more important. In Rushed, that’s not what happens. The book reminded me of teenage movies, where the heroine arrives on the campus and discovers the students dynamics and the way they compete because they want to be the best and attract the best new students. So, if you are not ready to read that kind of thing, stay away. If you are, you can rush headlong. Indeed, once I got into the book, I definitely had a great time with it and with the characters.
Our heroine, Alexis, comes from a wealthy family and should get into the best sorority. She also knows that she doesn’t have to make a lot of efforts for that, just to act like the perfect girl. However she has other aspirations and not being part of the elite is one of them. Alexis wants some real friends, but it will be difficult, so she makes the best of the situation by being warm, friendly and respectful. I loved Alexis, even though I found her very careless at the beginning, when she doesn’t respect the hero’s wish not to be in a relationship with a girl in the house. Zach has a difficult past and he doesn’t get along with his parents, who divorced after a dramatic event. I loved him because he was not a womanizer. I often say that it’s good to have this kind of hero sometimes in a NA. I loved Zach’s course of action: no relationship with a girl in the house. The reader isn’t burdened with his ex during the whole novel. Alexis and Zach are attracted to each other from the beginning, but one of the rules of the house is that the houseboys must not have any romantic relationship with the girls. Otherwise, the two (the girl and the houseboy) can be fired and the girl can be banned from all the other sororities. At first Zach tries to fight his feelings, while Alexis chases him. Fortunately, the author well explained the reason behind the heroine’s behavior, otherwise I would not have liked her.
The story is very interesting, the writing flows and the tone is light, with some emotion and tender moments. I loved that the heroes were very clear about their feelings, that they trusted each other whatever happened. The sex scenes are not described in any details, but we feel the sexual tension between Alexis and Zach, and because of that, they often forget those close to them.
There is a bad girl in the story. She has had a thing for Zach for two years and doesn’t like when the girls don’t obey her. I would have loved to strangle her myself during the entire book. Aside from her, the other people were nice and they have some potential for their own story. I’ll read the other books if the plot appeals to me.
In conclusion, if you want a story in the teenage movie style, go on, you won’t be disappointed! If you want a contemporary romance, you won’t be disappointed either! For everyone else, I will just say: Try it!
There are not many things in life I claim to be an expert about…the Yankees in the 90’s, Notre Dame Football since the Lou Holtz era (minus the Bob Davies years that I pretend didn’t exist), my personal likes and dislikes, and sorority life as I knew it. I will be the first to tell you, sororities are different campus to campus. The culture is different. The same sorority at two different schools could be complete polar opposites. At my school you wore school colors with pride to a sporting event. Some people painted their faces and we cheered for our team, even the girls that didn’t care about football. Jeans, yoga pants and t-shirts or sweatshirts with the school name or logo. In the south, they were pearls and dresses and treat it as a dress up event it’s football…but that’s how they do it. But the rules for recruitment, the things you are and are not allowed to do that I know! I have been on every side of formal recruitment and this book did not exactly get them correct.
I’m not sure if the author was Greek and not really involved/misinterpreted what she learned or if she maybe misinterpreted what she learned through internet research, books, movies and tv. For me, the inaccuracies in the beginning of the books (during “rush) were distracting. I had a hard time staying involved in the story…I wanted to look up the NPC rules and paste them in my status updates instead. Think I’m kidding. but don’t worry, I didn’t type out all of the issues, I won’t bore you with the details of that.
It made me realize something about myself I need to stop reading books about sorority life. That’s a personal thing, so I tried to move past it. That took me to about halfway through.
I considered DNFing…it’s all the stereotypical things you’ve come to hear about the hierarchy of the Greek system. The hot blondes at the top, the fat or ugly or weird girls at the bottom (did you see House Bunny? like that). But there were some things she got pretty spot on like Homecoming activities, I could totally see happening. So I kept going
Thankfully, there were a few redeeming characters that kept me reading (Kayla, the houseboys, even Kelly and Dakota weren’t so bad) and in the end, I enjoyed most of the second half of the book. Once I could get passed some of my own issues (that someone who wasn’t Greek wouldn’t necessarily pick up on), I wanted to see how it was going to play out. Some things were pretty predictable, but there were a few things that caught me by surprise in a good way. But then the end happened, and much like the attraction between Alexis and Zach, I felt like it was just rushed through.
In the end, it was probably Zach that kept me reading. I really liked his character and I wanted to see how it would all play out. I also really liked Dakota’s character, it didn’t go exactly like I thought it would with him…but that wound up being okay too. I’ll be honest, Alexis kind of got on my nerves, but she’s an 18 year old sorority girls. Looking back at myself at that time, I’d get on my nerves now too.
All in all, this probably wasn’t the story for me but I am sure there are people who will enjoy it. Definite plus that it doesn’t have a cliffhanger if you don’t want it to.
Review: Rushed follows Alexis and Zach in alternating duel perspective. Alexis is a college freshman who is forced into rushing the most popular and stuck up sorority on campus due to her status of the third generational legacy. Zach is the live-in houseboy for the girls, he treats the girls like sisters and is fiercely protective of them. Zach and Alexis feel a connection from the moment they first lock eyes, but they can't act on it because it is against the rules to date a sister. They can't seem to stay away from each other and the fact that they live in the same house isn't helping. Between dealing with Morgan, a delta that has a crush on Zach and Dakota, Zach's ex-best friend/president of a popular fraternity who is crushing on Alexis, these two lovebirds have some serious issues to deal with before they can reach their happily ever after. But even with everything against them, they find a way to make it work in their own special way. The idea for this book was really good, I've been wanting to read it since i first heard about it a few months ago so when i was it on Netgalley i got really excited, and even more so after i was approved to review it. As much as i loved the plot, i feel like it was very poorly executed in this novel and that much of the stuff that happened within the plot was just there for the sake of it being there and i hate when that happens in books, especially new adult romance ones. This was a disappointment to me, i tired so hard to love this book but there were just too many flaws for me to truly adore it like i know i could have.
What I Liked: I loved Zach, i thought with as much baggage as he had that he was a very well-rounded and caring person. Dakota also really grew on me near the end, his loyalty to Zach through everything was something i found refreshing. The fact that Zach and Alexis bonded through music was probably my favorite thing and that music is what saved his life, that's something that I related to on some levels and i really made my connection to Zach more strong. Oh, and wall sex.... that was good. The end of the book was also kinda full circle so that was interesting.
What I Didn't Like: The romance was (no pun intended) RUSHED, one minute they were like "we can't do this" then they sleep together then a page later they are saying "i love you" and that really threw me off, it was an unrealistic pacing for a relationship. They became a couple way too fast and that kind of ruined the book for me in some aspects. The decoy relationship between Dakota and Alexis made me uncomfortable, especially when Dakota kissed her... i know why they did it but i don't think that was the best thing they could do to fix this situation. The sisters in the sorority (with the exception of Kayla) annoyed me so much, they thought they were so cool and so popular and they treat people unlike them like they didn't even matter and that's just a really shitty thing to do if you ask me. Morgan's possessiveness over Zach was completely off the rails and pointless, and the fact that she got the satisfaction of catching them together, i hated that, i hated that so much. Both Zach and Alexis also had really shitty parents and that really sucked that it took Zach almost dying for his parents to care about him.
I was provided with a copy of this book through netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
I had a bit of a mixed bag reaction with this one, but in the end the pluses were enough to put this up to 4 stars without halving or rounding. The book started out with a lot of Greek phrases that were left with no explanation....like Geed. I finally looked that one up. Or Rho Gam...still don't know that one. It was a bit frustrating. It wasn't required necessarily, but it just kind of sucked that it was assumed I would know these phrases. Most of that was in the beginning of the book though, and didn't persist.
I had a mixed bag reaction to Alexis -- she was totally not a character I think I've encountered before. I couldn't quite figure out what to make of her. On the one hand, she was so totally against the Double Deltsies and we were led to believe that she would be a real oddball in the house....but at the same time, she was coached to look and act the part by her mother, and seemed to do that with no problems. And truthfully, she became friends with a lot of them, so while she wasn't like the worst of them, she wasn't exactly the opposite either...which was sort of what I was expecting. I guess I don't necessarily buy that she could spend so much time acting a part and having people believe it without it being a little bit a part of her. So listening to her complain about how she wasn't going to fit in and wished she could have her own life just didn't always work for me....at least it didn't really make me feel empathy for her.
Zach on the other hand....he was pretty easy to like. And kind of an interesting character in his own right. Like seriously, what a f*'d up back story. I liked that he was broken, but he wasn't all tragic most of the time and was actually quite normal.
I even really grew to like Dakota, and that was completely unexpected!!
I thought the chemistry between Zach and Alexis was pretty smokin, though I thought the rush into "I love you's" was a bit unexpectedly early, and a bit detracting.
The portrayal of the Greek system was actually quite awful in some cases. I have no experience with the Greek system, but the way the girls were treated, the things that went on...well, I hope that this is just a blow up of the stereotype to make it more dramatic, and not an actual reflection of the real thing. Yeah, some of the sisters weren't too bad (Kayla and Kelly), but in general it was rather sad.
So after what seems like a lot of negative comments, you're probably wondering how I could give this a solid 4 stars eh?? Well, maybe it is more of a 3.5 star rounded up. Because despite all of the badness above, this book sucked me in. Setting all of ^that aside, this book had HILARIOUS dialogue and exchanges....some really cute friendships and interactions between Alexis, Dak and Zach. And I really enjoyed some of the underlying plot surrounding Zach's past. So when I don't overanalyze it, I end up remembering really enjoying this book. So this is one of those books where if you can set aside some disbelief, it's totally charming, amusing and entertaining with a bit of heart thrown in. I hope you have my kind of luck with it.
Rushed by Gina Robinson is the first book in her spinoff of the Reckless series.
Rushed is a New Adult book. It starts out on Rush week at the college. It highlights the trials and tribulations of becoming a sorority pledge. We follow Alexis as she tries to select the sorority that has been a legacy in her family. She is under pressure and does not feel this is the right choice for her. But she can’t fight against the legacy her family has laid down before her. We will experience the interview and selection process.
Once the Rush week is over we will witness Alexis become a member of the sority. We will see her struggle with their ideals, fellow sisters, and the idea of dating certain men from approved Fraternities. The one man she wants is not a member of a Fraternity. He is a house boy for her sorority. A mere servent in the eyes of her sorority sisters.
Zach is a brilliant young man with a truckfull of baggage. He is attending school on scholarship and working as a houseboy to make ends meet. He is financially strapped, emotionally damaged, and off limits to Alexis. He has hidden secrets that he will carry throughout his life.
As the story evolves this couple will enter a forbidden secret affair. They will have to hide their relationship from the sorority, the fraternity, and Alexis family. They will have to hide their relationship because it could ruin them both. Zach has a powerful enemy. Alexis has a devious sorority sister that wants her out and Zach’s attention. Zach can lose his financial stability. Alexis can lose her family’s respect.
This is a truthful story of how some colleges view the Greek communities in colleges. The reader will see segregation , a class system, and some mild hazing in this book.
The reader will also experience the highs and lows that come with a forbidden relationship. They will see two young, beautiful people struggling to find a way to fit into their chosen world.
Rush is a good story with a good plot. There is emotional drama, plenty of angst, romantic scenes, blazing chemistry, powerful enemies, and a climatic ending. The writing was good, the pace of the story was steady, the plot well developed, and the characters were endearing.
I liked the book but it was not a light and fun new adult romance. Considering the subject matter, how could it be? This subject might not grab all readers. Many are not aware of the Greek community systems in most American colleges.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series and have enjoyed the previous series , the Reckless series, in which the Rush series has spun off of. Crushed, Book 2 , will be out in the fall of 2014.
I received a complimentary e-copy of Rushed in exchange for an honest review.
Zach is one of 4 houseboys at the Delta Delta Psi sorority house. His duties range from cooking, house maintenance, to protecting the sisters. He gets free room and board and also a small paycheck which he desperately needs since his parents have basically written him off for reasons he doesn't ever talk about to anyone. The most important rule for all the houseboys is that under no circumstances are they to be involved with any of the sisters and it's a rule that Zach has never had a problem with... until Alexis.
Alexis is destined to join the Double Deltsies, after all her mom is a legacy in the sorority. She's just looking forward to having the college experience and being in a sorority isn't something that she feels is a necessity. Her mom thinks otherwise and Alexis has to decide if she wants to suck it up and pledge or deal with the repercussions from her parents if she doesn't pledge.
During rush week, she meets Zach at the house and she feels an instant attraction to him. Now there's another consideration to her decision since being a Double Deltsie means there's no way anything could happen between her and Zach or each of them could be kicked out of the house permanently.
She makes her choice and now to complicate things even further, her assigned mentor, Morgan, has her eye on Zach too and she quickly picks up that there's something going on between Zach and Alexis. And the president of the frat that hangs out with the Deltsies is Dakota who has his own eye on Alexis. Dakota is the former best friend of Zach. Throughout high school Dakota fell short of Zach in just about everything. Zach was the first string quarterback, Dakota was the second string quarterback. Zach was voted most popular, Dakota came in second. Dakota picks up on the attraction between Alexis and Zach and doesn't want to come in 2nd this time. Dakota also is one of the few people in the world that know Zach's issues and it was when he outed Zach that caused the rift in their friendship.
I loved Rushed. I liked that we got to be inside both Zach's and Alexis' heads as the chapters alternated between their point of views. As much as I liked Alexis, I really loved Zach. My heart broke for him as he dealt with his feelings of unworthiness, guilt, and longing for something he knew he couldn't have and I smiled for him whenever something good happened to him because he so deserved it. I loved everything that Rushed has going for it - there's a behind the scenes look at sorority life, a forbidden attraction, betrayal, guilt, secrets and at the root of it all is a blossoming love that you can't but root for.
This is the first book that I've read by Gina Robinson, but I'm looking forward to reading more by her!
This book is a great insight into how the Greek system at college campuses works. I was most impressed with the descriptions about rush than anything. Mainly because I have read books lately about rush and they are incorrect in my opinion on how rush actually works and I have seen rush at small and large universities. So great job there.
The pace of the story was decent. When it started it was a little slow for me, but part of that came from the fact that I knew she would get in the house so it was almost like wasted time to talk about the process and everything leading up to it, but I understood why it was there. For the most part I liked the main character. It was a little frustrating that she didn't seem to get the her friend Em was not actually her friend. At times it seemed liked she was and others it didn't. That friendship just seemed really complicated and I didn't like it. I also would have liked her to have an actual friend somewhere. It didn't seem like she had a good secondary character to turn to when things got complicated. Also her mother confused me at times. There was her continually demand that she be in the house, but then she talks about how her mother wasn't popular or it wasn't a popular house when her mother was there. Her mom was such a snob about everything and it was hard to imagine how she got to acting like that in the first place if the sorority wasn't the best when she was there. Some of the relationships were just not very clear.
The couple also seemed to fall in love rather quickly. When they said 'I love you', it just threw me off. I thought I had missed something. It was like I blinked and there we were and I wasn't sure how we got to this point.
I had a hard time believing that our main guys parents would be that horrible. Mainly in cutting him off. I just really don't understand how if your parents would hate you enough to cut you off in terms of paying for school. Even if they hate you, but they can pay for school, they will probably pay for school. Also once they got caught there was a quick turnaround, literally the next page of a bunch of other stuff going down. That again was like I blinked, and there we were. Wasn't sure how we jumped that quickly but we did.
Both the characters seemed to grow, him more than her. However I did like that they grew at least a little. I didn't think we got enough background on our girl. It was almost like the start of rush was the start of her life. I mean she talked about her family, but that was just her parents.
Also, by the end there were a lot of loose ends so I assuming there is going to be a second book. Too much was left unanswered for there not to be like what happened to Jordan, what's going on with Kayla and the geeky guy, and etc. This may make it seem like I didn't like the book, but I did.
He winked at me. "We houseboys are more than beefcake you know."
Zach is the yummy houseboy of a sorority. He's working there to pay his way through college.
When he isn't being hot he is stressing about his horrible childhood or something. But it's better when he's being hot. Also, because he's hot he gets sexually harassed by some nasty sorority girl, Morgan. Don't worry, though Zach is able to resist Morgan and just mostly chill out and be hot.
Oh Zach, so gorgeous! And he says sweet things! "I was the fool in the corner, the guy who would stand in the rain and let the warmth of her smile scorch me." OK swoon.
Alexis "...it became clear what being a Double Deltsie meant- total hot-girl status."
Our heroine Alexis is being forced to pledge the hottest sorority on campus - the Double Deltsies. Apparently her mother was a Deltsie so there's no way out. Alex is really upset by this. She also complains a lot about having so many friends from her sorority because she would rather make her own friends. Although we never actually see her attempt to make friends with anyone. Anyway, Alexis also has other problems because all the boys like her, and it's really annoying being so beautiful because it means she's stuck being the favourite pledge and the president of some prestigious frat keeps asking her out.
Anyway, I'm not sure how much of this book is based on fact. Do pledges really line up for some "meat market" for frat brothers to rate their hotness? Is that a thing?
Putting aside my ignorance of the greek system, this is a sweet book. There's a lot going on and it's a fun read.
It's a forbidden love story, but it is surprisingly light on angst - at least compared to a lot of YA/NA these days. I did find the trials and tribulations of Alexis a little bit difficult to relate to (but I guess I relate more to outsiders) but Zach was great. Excellent characterisation there. I would recommend this to anyone who liked that old ABC family show, Greek. It's obviously a similar kinda vibe.
I'm definitely keen to read some more Gina Robinson in the future! I'm hoping that Ms Robinson tackles the story of Dakota next. Ridiculous name aside, I think there's scope for some cool storytelling there.
Summary Alexis is a sorority legacy due to her mother, and physically she ticks all the boxes for what the leading house want in a pledge. But she feels she has nothing in common with any of the girls and would much rather go for a house that suits her personality... One catch though, as long as her parents are funding her education, she must please them and this includes following in her mother's footsteps and getting into Delta Delta Psi.
This sorority has 4 guys that are known as "houseboys". They are looked down upon by the girls and out of bounds for romantic purposes. But Alexis sets her eyes on Zach and he reciprocates her feelings. However, he needs his job more than anything and if he gets close to Alexis he loses everything. Meanwhile Zach harbours a secret from his past and Alexis believes she'll be the exception and be able to help him, whilst protecting her place in her house.
My Thoughts...
I read this in one day so that's a good example for how it was an easy read and held my interest throughout. The story is pretty cute and is an enjoyable light read and was exactly what you'd expect from a YA romance.
However... It just lacked something for me overall. I think it was credibility. Zach's secret is traumatic and everything but the ending was a little bit too coincidental for me, I know it's a writing technique but it didn't have the desired effect on me like I presume it was intended.
The story was too predictable; from the blurb it was clear there'd be romance between Alexis and Zach but I expected more than just . IMO it would have gotten at least 4 stars from me if there was more of a natural build up and not just a jump-the-gun-she-is-the-one thing.
Characters really lacked depth; we got an insight into Zach's world but I just didn't feel for him, I didn't get that pang of sympathy that I wanted to and I can't explain why, but if Alexis had ended up with Dak, I wouldn't have screamed in protest like I have/would at other books.
All that aside though, it still is a great novel. The story is simple but with a few minor twists here and there. It had to be good enough as it took less than 24 hours for me to complete and if there was a follow on book I would probably read it!
Thank you to the author for allowing me the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review!
This is my first book by Gina Robinson and all I could think when I finished it was why Rushed couldn't be a series! I know I'm almost starting this review in reverse, but can i just say the 'stinger' at the end! Gina, Gina, Gina, how can you put something like that at the end of one of your books and not give us more?! Bad girl! (I know there was a warning not to read it, its like saying don't press the red button - we are going to do it!).
Right that all being said did I liked Rushed, no I loved it! I loved the writing style of Rushed. I loved how it made me laugh out load more than once, how it made me feel pain for Zack and how at times I wanted to shout at Alexis, 'Grow some balls!'. But yes, I absolutely adored this story and how it was written and can also add that yes I will now be reading the Reckless series (How its escaped my radar I do not know!).
Alexis is an ok character. At first I didn't like her. I soon realised it wasn't her fault though. Although she had her own mind, thoughts and feelings, her upbringing had also bought her up in such a way that she also didn't really 'fit' the character. But that was how she was meant to be. Alexis was a perfect model of what her mother wanted, but not what Alexis wanted. Zack, oh Zack. You misunderstood hottie! He's hot, has depth, is funny and is (Did I say hot?), well he just is. I absolutely loved him!
I loved how the story panned out, I adored the sub characters (Will talk about one in particular in a moment) and felt Rushed had a good pace with a nice crescendo that built up to a good ending. I did feel the ending was a little 'rainbows and puppies (Or should that be Pomski's ), but its what you come to expect with New Adult romances.
Now without going into the story and giving spoilers can I just say that I loved Dakota and really wish, hope, pray that Gina may do a book on what happens next because of him. Especially after the stinger, you just know 'shit ain't over'!
I gave Rushed 4 stars, I think its a perfect beach read. Being a standalone there really isn't a cliffhanger (As such, damn you STINGER!!) and you are left with a perfect ending. I gave Rushed 4 out of 5 stars!
College: Sororities. Frats. Things will get wild. Totally crazy. But fun...
There was never a dull moment. I literally felt as if I were living the life of a sorority girl and having so much fun and making friends, and more than likely frienemies (ugh), but it is part of the college experience. I, myself, am a college student. I was able to really enjoy the events that occurred and I was more often then not, like-minded with the characters. It was so easy to sympathize with them, and feel as strongly for what they were going through. The fun was so thrilling and the parties were detailed perfectly. It made me wonder why I was reading late at night on a Saturday about going to a party on a Saturday night.
And then I remembered that I love books.
Finally. First off, the main characters are Zach and Alexis. They practically fall for each other the second they gaze up at one another. The fact that they live in the same Sorority house doesn't help much. They just can't stay away from each other. They keep getting drawn together closer and closer. He is the house boy, she is the third-generation legacy...and their are rules in the house. Houseboys are inferior. Not up to standard, and if they are caught sleeping with a girl from the house, the consequences are far from lenient and way past harsh.
The story was set at an easy pace, not too slow or at all rushed (pun intended). Just right. Loved the puppy scene. Very slick and hilarious. I wish there was more to read about the relationship between Zach and his parents, as well as Alexis and her parents, especially her mother. I also wanted to know the depths of Alexis' punishment and what happened to Morgan.
The events that played out were fantastic, not the actual happening of what occurred, but how well they complimented the whole story in general and flowed smoothly. Every detail was on point, I cannot stress that enough. Beautifully written. No big mistakes as far as I could see (even without my glasses). Just a typo here and there, not that much that stood to out me to where I had a problem reading.
Overall, this was just great work. I loved the story and absolutely look forward to the next book coming in the Fall.

Alexis is a freshman entering the Greek rush. She's a legacy for Delta Delta Psi. But she doesn't want it. Being a legacy means she'll get in no matter what. She just has to play the part. These girls are nothing like her. At her house interview, she spots Zach. The only reason she looks forward to joining the sorority.
Zach needs this job. It provides a roof over his head. The girls are his sisters. Until he sees her. She's a typical sorority girl on the outside, but her eyes tell him scream something else. He wants to know more about her but he's not willing to risk his job or his home. The girls are his sisters.
Alexis and Zach spend more and more time together and can't help what they feel for each other. But it's against the rules and her mother would freak. She can't help it. What's the worst that could happen?
I loved this book. The characters were great and the book had a nice flow to it. Alexis was my favorite character. She is your typical I-have-to-listen-to-my-parents-because-they-have-money kind of girl. She appeases her parents while they're watching but when they turn their backs, she's herself. And I liked that person better. Zac had a dark secret like all bad boys do. But he didn't really remember it and that made me more curious to find out what happened and why he tortured himself so much for it.
With the way the book ended, I guess I would have expected an expansion of the drama about what happened in the days after the hospital and how Alexis dealt with her parents and the sorority meeting. That would have added more of a conclusion to their struggle to be together. If this was added in, as say the last chapter, the Epilogue could have been part of that last chapter and a perfect conclusion to the book. Then a different Epilogue could have been the apartment or maybe even a year later. That's my only beef with the book, but it worked out great just the way it is. I just craved a bit more "after the fact".
Her parents always expected more for her. His parents never expected him to do much with himself. But together the two of them may just break the expectations set upon them and find real love.
Alexis is a generational sorority girl. She's been groomed to join Delta Delta Psi, her mother's old sorority, and even though she doesn't feel like it is the house for her, Alexis knows it's what is expected of her. What isn't expected is for her to fall head over heels with the house boy. Especially when said house boy is off limits according to house rules.
Zach has spent years atoning for something that he couldn't be blamed for, and yet he still blames himself. He has become a brother to all the girls in the house and has found some peace in that. The girls have become his family over ther years since his own family doesn't want much to do with him. When Alexis sweeps into his life during Rush week he knows better than to get involved and yet there's something about her that keeps drawing him in.
Rush is a story of hope & redemption, love & friendship.
I loved Zach. There was just something about him that made him this wonderfully awesome lead male. Handsome, sweet, responsible and a hard worker, Zach is the perfect man.
As for Alexis, I did like her too. I thought she was a sweet girl, but seemed a little lost and afraid to break out of her mother's shadow or to do something against her parents due to her mother's struggle to have Alexis.
I felt that Zach and Alexis were a perfect match for one another though. Zach keeps Alexis from always doing what is expected and makes her feel freer to make her own decisions while in return Alexis helps soothe Zach's soul and heal his heart.
Rushed was a fun read full of college mishaps and adventures. The book is light-hearted and an easy read. I read Rushed in just a few hours, myself. I will definitely be checking out Gina Robinson's Reckless series in the near future!
*I receive Rushed by Gina Robinson in exchange for an honest review.
This is the story of 2 young adults on a college campus and the ins and outs of sorority and fraternity life that make up a significant part of their college experience. Alexis is a wealthy beautiful young lady who is expected to pledge to the same sorority that her mother did, despite wishing to go her own way. Zach is a houseboy, working to pay for his college life at the same house where Alexis is accepted. There's a no fraternization rule between the sisters and the houseboys - but can these two heed the rule or will their attraction for each other result in disaster?
I really enjoyed this book! I found the descriptions of sorority life quite fascinating as this was all new to me, having never experienced this type of campus life. Alexis is a very likeable young woman, caring and fun and trying to make the best of a situation she doesn't want to be in , namely being in a sorority house just because it is expected of her. Though she would like to defy her parents, she knows that she needs their support to go to school. Zach is equally personable, a young man with a tragedy in his past that defines who he is now and the circumstances he finds himself in. He's a caring and concerned individual, friendly to all the sisters and willing to help them in any situation. The sexual attraction between Zach and Alexis is evident from their first meeting and the gradual evolution of their relationship is delightful to read. The love scenes are steamy and well written.
The behind the scenes look at college life in general - the use of alcohol, the peer pressure, the expectations of others, is quite eye opening and gives a true sense of what really goes on. Secondary characters add an interesting dynamic to the mix and round out the story. I found the book difficult to put down, wanting to know how Zach and Alexis could make their relationship work in what seemed like an impossible situation. I will definitely be looking for more from this author! 4.5 stars!

The premise of this book sounded really exciting. There's nothing better than a forbidden romance so why is it that I thought this book fell flat?
First of all this book was based entirely around the sorority house and practically every greek tradition was explained in detail. My fault, I should have realised that this would probably be the case based on the story line however I didn't think it'd go into so much boring detail.
Then it came to the insta love between Alexis and Zach. There was no real build up between them. I didn't feel their connection like I would have liked to. Within a couple of weeks they were saying 'I love you' yet they never had any real conversations - probably because Zach was trying to avoid Alexis for most of it yet they still fell in love anyway. Sure they both sort of told their stories to one another but I didn't feel their pain, I was just told about it.
I did however like Zach's character more than Alexis's. He truly cared about the girls as though he was a big brother to them even to the not so nice ones. He also tried to stay away from Alexis and fight their attraction for both theirs sakes. Although this didn't last long I was grateful that he at least tried.
My other problem was Zach and Dakota's friendship. The story felt as though the ending was rushed and we never got to read about how their friendship mended or progressed after the big 'dramatic plot twist'. I wanted to get into Zachs head a little more but it ended abruptly and I was left feeling disappointed.
I see that book two is based on Dakota and Morgan's story. Although I hated Morgan in this book I'm curious about Crushed. However, personally I'm going to wait and see others reviews come in first or read the sample first before I decide to buy it or not.
Wow this book was soooo.... Ok it's been a very long time since I read a College book so freaking innocent and naive. Seriously. Like two students fall in love the minute they meet. Love at first sight. No mistakes...no bad boy coming to his senses. Nope just bam...their eyes meet and they're in love. It was weird, I kept thinking...wow this is way to sweet.
SPOILERS!!!!
Anna meets Zach the day she rushes for her mothers sorority. Their eyes meet and she knows she had found the one. But Zach isn't allowed to consider a relationship with Alexis. He is the sororities houseboy, he needs to be the brother to all the sisters and a relationship with Alexis is completely forbidden. Alexis concocts a plan to use Zachs ex-best friend Dakota as her cover boyfriend so that she can date Zach on the sly (Don't worry Dakota knows and he is using her for the same reason for his girlfriend). Sounds all simple right...until Morgan, who has been crushing on Zach for two years, and Dakota, fake bf, walks in on Alexis and Zach in a compromising position. Morgan freaks and gets Zach kicked out and Dakota runs out having to act the wounded bf part. So Zach leaves trying to clear his head with a walk, Dakota leaves and drinks to save face and Morgan goes after Dakota and drinks herself into a stupor too. Morgan passes out behind Dakotas Car, Zach sees Dakota get behind the wheel and reverse, so he runs to save Morgan and gets hit instead. Massive head injury. All's good though because this makes Zachs parents wake up and start caring and they get him an apartment on campus and pay his tuition so he no longer has to work as the houseboy anyway and him and Alexis get their happily ever after.
I didn't like this story. If it hadn't been for the fact that I agreed to review it I would've DNFed it. I found Alexis annoying and selfish. I get that she's attracted to Zach but even after she knows the consequences of them getting together she still doesn't understand why he won't risk it. I just didn't believe the connection between them. Yes they're attracted to each other but I didn't really find it believable that it went any deeper than that. I've never been in a sorority or known anyone in it so I don't know how accurate this story is but if its anything like this why would any girl want in on it? They make most of these girls out shallow and the guys out as future felons. It must be known knowledge that some of the guys in Tau Psi will force themselves on them but instead of taking action against this they tell the girls not to accept any house tours alone and to bring your own drink to the party. Really, that's the best they can do? Zach was the best character in this. My heart broke for him over his past. So the ending made no sense to me, that he would just allow his parents back in his life like that? I also liked Dakota (after awhile), Kelly and Em. If not for them I might have given this 1 The author metions at the end this is the first of a series but can be read as a stand alone. As a stand alone I'm just wondering what happened to Dakota and Morgan. I'm assuming she's ok or it would've said otherwise but what happened to the charges against Dakota?
I was given a ecopy by the author in exchange for a honest review. Thank you.
This was a little bit different than the other NA stories out there. Even though I currently live in the US, I'm originally from Europe so there are a lot things I don't know about college life in the US and especially Greek life. The big irony is that I actually am Greek, but we don't have that kind of thing in universities back home. I guess we actually live the Greek life and college is just for education. Sorry if i'm being a bit harsh but I just can't understand this whole Greek life concept that US colleges try to impose on students.
This book deals with the sorority/fraternity scene in college and I can say that it was quite informative; for example I didn't know that some sororities have live-in houseboys, and I have to say I didn't really like that fact. I guess I should be relieved that there weren't any live-in housegirls in fraternities; at least I hope there aren't!
"Rushed" was a nice read; It definitely wasn't one of the best but it was OK for the most part of it. What I did not enjoy was the forced drama towards the end, and I say 'forced' because it didn't really flow with the story. And then we have the ending so nicely wrapped up that it kinda felt fake.
The strange thing is that even though I wasn't crazy about this book I would recommend it. I didn't like some facts of the story but the story as a whole managed to keep my interest; it was definitely a page turner for me.

NA genre - Written in alternative POV from Alexis and Zach - Rush week Third generation legacy sorority pledge - Double Deltsie - it's got angst and a mean-drama queen in the form of Alexis 'Big' Morgan that's been after Zach 'QB1' the live in house boy for a long time.
Alexis has her work cut out for her but she knows what she wants and she will stop at nothing to get it. She's hot on Zach tail.
Zach tries to stay away from Alexis but he saves her on a a few occasions when there paths cross which only strengthens their connection. Zach can't afford to get caught up with the pledge as the rules are Cristal clear you're-out! With a dark past - family issues he needs the home, the job and the support system/connection that comes with it even more than ever...
Look out for 'QB2' Dakota he was Zach's Second in high school. Is he out to stab Zach in the back for grabbing the lime light when they were kids in high school and always being Number one or does he have a bit of remorse.... Now he has all the right pedigree papers to please Alexis over bearing mum, that's trapped in a vision. That being said, is Dak the solution their both looking for or will there be more trouble and hurt along the way, weaved with drama, good summer read, stand a lone book and damn the stinger was excellent at the end. Read It to find out the trails and tribulation of the Greek life on campus. 4 stars. ARC for review.

I am really on the fence about this book. On one hand I loved the characters, especially Alexis and Zach. I liked that there wasn't too much drama and no cliffhanger, but on the other hand the story felt to YA for me. If it weren't for the sex, it would be a great YA book. Now, this is just my opinion of course, but sometimes the way the characters acted and talked was too immature for my tastes. I know they are in college, but it still felt a lot younger at times. Other than that, the story was great. It kept my attention and it was interesting to read about sorority and frat politics and be a part of that world for a little bit.
Zach is a house boy at the most popular sorority in their school. He and the other house boys are absolute eye candy, but they can not have a relationship or sex with any of the girls in the house. If they do they and the sorority sister would be kicked out. Lucky for Zach he has absolutely no interest in any of the sisters, until beautiful Alexis becomes a new pledge in the sorority.
Alexis doesn't even want to be there, but as the only child to a previous Delta Deltsie. She is pushed into it by her mother. She isn't even sure she will go through with it until the sexiest most irresistible house boy brings her a cupcake. Now, she can't resist.
There is drama and politics and hierarchy, but Alexis and Zach can't fight their feelings.
