Everyone's favorite film geek Phoebe Grant heads off to Merrie Old England-and changes her cinematic dreams from black and white to living color.
Phoebe's family has money troubles. Her spiritual life is dragging. She misses her long-distance best friend, Lindsey, terribly. But all that's bearable because of Alex, the gorgeous man who shares her love of movies and actually likes women with a little meat on their bones. At last-someone to kiss on New Year's Eve!
But by New Year's Eve, Alex is in London, called home by a family emergency. Newly engaged Lindsey has turned into a long-distance Bridezilla, and the snooze button still sabotages Phoebe's morning quiet times. She needs a break, which is why she jumps at the cheap off-season fare to England.
She's not chasing Alex. Really. She just wants to broaden her horizons. But what awaits Phoebe in the land of Mrs. Miniver and Notting Hill is nothing short of disaster . . . and nothing less than a miracle.
Award-winning author Laura Jensen Walker has written several fiction and non-fiction books. Her historical fiction debut, DEATH OF A FLYING NIGHTINGALE, spotlighting a group of overlooked real-life women histories from WWII, releases in September 2024. A lover of mysteries since she read her first Trixie Belden in the fourth grade, Laura is thrilled to return to writing after a decade’s absence to write mystery novels. Her Agatha-nominated MURDER MOST SWEET is set in the small town of Lake Potawatomi, Wisconsin, features baker, writer, and breast-cancer survivor Teddie St. John and her irrepressible American Eskimo dog Gracie. Laura's Faith Chapel Mystery series (HOPE, FAITH, & A CORPSE, Jan. 2021) set in rural Northern California, features the movie-loving Episcopal priest Pastor Hope Taylor and her loyal Black Lab Bogie.
Grateful to be a longtime breast cancer survivor (THANKS FOR THE MAMMOGRAM! rereleases September 2020) Laura flew a typewriter across Europe in Uncle Sam's Air Force in her twenties, and lived in Oxfordshire, England for three years where she became a lifelong, tea-loving Anglophile. A native of Racine, Wisconsin—home of Wisconsin’s official state pastry, the delicious, mouth-watering Danish kringle—dog-lover Laura lives in Northern California with her Renaissance-man husband and their canine daughter, Mellie.
Could not finish this one. I liked the first one...but this one...was a no go. I confess I read the end and was not interested in finding out how the story even got there.
I’ll be honest, this book was just boring me to death. I couldn’t finish it. I didn’t care about the characters and they were irritating me. DNF about halfway through.
I love how much Phoebe grew in this book! I feel like she finally found herself & was learning to really & truly be an independent woman! Her trip to England made me want to visit there even more & make sure I visit all the not touristy things too!! I wish there were more Phoebe Grant books because I absolutely loved living alongside her!
I had just as much fun reading this book as I did book one. I highly recommend this book for it's fun factor. Love this author.

I love Walker's take on 30-something Christian singles. I was so enthralled in knowing how it turned out I booked it through the second half of the book, but I was disappointed by the ending. I'm expecting there to be another book in the series. There wasn't enough resolve to the relationships that began, ended, moved on, etc. So there's just gotta be another book. There's just gotta be! The situations and Biblical references are always encouraging to me though. I want more.
This was my first book by this author and i didn't enjoy it that much. It has a very Christian theme throughout the book which is fine; however, it gets annoying after a while. You knew what kind of book it was going to be and i felt like nothing truly exciting ever happened. There was never any big event or climactic point to this book at all. This is a pass on book and author.
Didn't think I was going to enjoy this as much as the first (Dreaming in Black and White), but the ending clinched it for me and I had to give it 4 stars. These books are light, funny Christian reads with some romance---but the focus is on finding your place in the world.
I was sad with how this book ended. Call me unrealistic, but I like a book to end with the girl and guy getting together. If I wanted real life, I'd read non fiction. =)
