I’ve been inventing stories as far back as I can remember (mostly to keep me out of trouble), but began writing seriously after finishing an English studies BA as a mature student. My writing is influenced by so many things: a love of reading all genres; films; music; raising my two daughters; hill walking; and much, much more. I tend to take all I know, throw it into a setting and see what comes out.

My first four books were all fantasy, but then a new story entered my mind that insisted on being a psychological thriller. Just like raising children, a story insists on being what it was always meant to be: Characters will behave as they want, and plots will demand to go in a certain direction. All I do as an author is transfer their antics into writing and then release them into the world to see what readers make of them.

I have more fantasy tales to tell and more thrillers too. I can’t promise all readers that they will like my stories, but I can promise one thing: I will never publish anything that I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed myself.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Davran and friends are back in an all new adventure. When Davran goes to find out how to stop Grizzle, she is shocked to learn the answer. Can she and her friends stop Grizzle's evil plan and stop the world from ending? Read on and find out for yourself.

This was a great finale to the Fuel to the Fire trilogy. If you enjoy dragons, magic, and more, then be sure to check the whole trilogy out available now on Amazon and wherever ebooks are sold.

This really is an amazing series. All 3 books have taken me on such a wonderful journey into a different world. David Staniforth has such a skilful and fluid writing style, and he has that ability to pull you into the story. There is a few surprises that I absolutely loved. From book 1 right the way through to book 3 had me captivated. Saurian maybe dead, and the world has become one again, but not everything has turned out for the best. Razor Hounds, Black Dragons and Grizzle the Witch have free reign over what was once the light side of the world. The animal population has certainly taken a hit, with hungry Razor Hounds on the run. Grizzle seems to have grown in power, and she is spreading her hate everywhere she can. Children are certainly not safe, and more and more of them are disappearing. Unfortunately their parents don’t realise they are becoming a meal for this ghastly witch. Hesperus and Davran realise they need to do something about Grizzle, and decide to travel to the capital Santaxiom, and see if there is some information on how to handle her. Meanwhile Grizzle is doing everything she can to get Davran to use her magic. If Davran uses her powers then Grizzle will grow stronger, and this is especially hard when they are attacked by a large flock of birds. Even worse is Grizzles goal to make as many children and adults in Zombodies, to do her bidding. Grizzle may not be able to find Davran at the moment, but she’s going to make hell for the people in the villages, and try to coax Davran out of her hiding place. Taking over the minds of the Razor Hounds and having a pack of 24 of them attack a village all at once is only one of the ways she is trying this. The last thing Hesperus and Davran want to do is to kill Grizzle, as this won’t work and will make her immortal. They need her to either die by someone else’s hand, or naturally. Of course this isn’t going to be an easy thing. Especially with her gaining knowledge and power at a rapid pace. This is definitely one series where I would say to start a book 1. You really don’t want to miss anything in these incredible books.

Spoilers for Fuel the Fire and Ruler's Desire.

In the final book of the series, we see a distinct detachment from the plotlines of the previous novels. Having beaten the tyrant Saurian for good, the two worlds can now rejoin and with that comes a whole host of other issues for Davran and her friends to face. You may remember Grizzle, the repulsive, wicked sorceress from Ruler's Desire whose powers were for the most part negated by Saurian. With him gone, there is nothing to stop her from unleashing her evil influence over the newly joined worlds. Davran must now face an enemy she barely understands, who makes Saurian seem benevolent by comparison. I've rarely come across an antagonist so creepily repulsive and just plain evil. Grizzle made me shudder at times and count my lucky stars that she's just a character in a novel.

Throughout the book, I was racking my brains in an attempt to come up with a solution to all the problems. As you get further through the novel you begin to understand just how desperate their plight is as you're just as much in the dark as they are. Davran must find a way to get rid of Grizzle but without the correct knowledge of how to defeat her does she dare to act? One misguided move could cement Grizzle's victory and destroy all chances of beating her. I was very impressed by the ending. I didn't have a clue what they were going to do and in a sense, this reminded me strongly of the Mistborn Trilogy where the characters were in a similarly hopeless situation and the final outcome was unexpected, brilliant and bittersweet.

Despite being such a great novel, the pacing was a little off at times in the middle section. Reading about what Ronyn and the others did whilst Davran was off on her travels dragged at times as it often felt unnecessary. Also I didn't quite feel the connection between Davran and Ronyn like I had in previous novels. Perhaps this was because they spent so much time apart.

Disregarding a few tedious moments I enjoyed this novel and thought it was a worthy addition to the series. Staniforth is fantastic at worldbuilding and creating twists in the tale. Twice now, I've witnessed brilliant endings to his novels that show what a truly amazing storyteller he is.

I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys fantasy, a strong female protagonist and are looking for a departure from the norm!

This is the final instalment in the Fuel to the Fire trilogy, and boy does it pack a punch! This last story in the collection will leave you wondering both why you hadn't read it sooner, and why there aren't any more. David Staniforth continues to paint his literary canvass with strokes of evocative description and narrative that will have you turning pages deep into the night.

This final chapter rounds off the story and polishes it to a high sheen, answering all of the questions posed throughout the series until we finally understand all of the motives and movements of the author's grand plan. Not only that, but I found myself almost breathless towards the end of the book, willing on my favourite characters, hoping that they wouldn't let me down.

This is indie at its best and I can't stress the quality of the story, or the passion behind it highly enough. If I'd had these in paperback, they would sit in pride of place next to my Robert Asprin and Pratchett collections, gnarled and thumbed until they were falling apart. So, please ... PLEASE (or purlease) grab a beverage, get yourself comfy and take the phone off the hook; line up parts one, two and three and prepare to be taken on a journey of a lifetime.

A polite note to the author: More please! More Hesperus the early years, or Onktors and why they're fuzzy. More Grizzle's battle with Saurian, or the first separation. Even a collected tales from this universe. Just more ... Lots more!

"I like to think anyone can be anything they want to be, given enough motivation. Sometimes evil men will do good, and good men will do evil. Each and every one of us has the capacity to travel to the extremes of both."

In the third and last book in the Fuel to the Fire trilogy, Davran faces her worst foe yet. Grizzle, the inherently evil sorceress whose powers were kept in check by the tyrant Saurian. Now that he is dead, her powers know no bounds, and she will stop at nothing to ruin Davran and plunge the world into everlasting darkness and ruin. Davran must reach inside herself, deeper than she ever has before, to find the strength to overcome evil and bring light and hope to those she loves.

Wow. I wanted to take my time and savor this book by reading slowly but it started off with such a bang and was so damn exciting the whole time I just found that I couldn't stop reading! This was the longest book in the series, which was fantastic, because there were so many characters and intense situations it was so fantastic to get to spend more time with them.

There is a lot to love about this book. First and foremost, as usual, David Staniforth has brought his wonderfully descriptive writing style to the table once more and described even more places that I wanted to explore and discover. The city Santaxiom and Onktor Valley were two places that I loved reading about, they were so beautiful and exciting! There were new creatures and people (conchubar, onktor, etc) as well which added even more spice and flavor to the story.

Um also can I just say that the main evil character, Grizzle, was probably one of the most evil, terrifying, and downright disgusting characters I have ever read about? Seriously. Some of the scenes involving her really really freaked me out (in a good way). She was just about as scary as Jit the hedge witch and Emperor Jagang from Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series. There is literally nothing as scary to me as those characters so for Grizzle to even come CLOSE to that is a huge accomplishment, in my opinion.

My favorite aspect of the book was Davran. What an amazing female character. I absolutely love her and was so excited to watch her grow and become an even more amazing woman in this last book. There are too few characters like her, unfortunately. She totally rocks. :)

I would recommend this book and this series to anyone who loved fantasy stories with great characters!

Thank you very much Mr David Staniforth for giving me a free copy of this amazing trilogy!!!
of course i gave it 5 stars :)

What can i say about this outstanding tale!
It caught me from the first chapter of the first book, the characters are amazing and the worlds where the story was set are mesmerizing!
And as the story unfolded, i became more involved in it, more attached to the different characters!

In this third book, Davran "Fuel to the Fire" is facing her worst enemy and is bound to make decisions that would alter her life and everybody she ever cared about!
And half way through i was so confused, every prospect they have seemed darker than the other, i couldn't think of an outcome that wouldn't be disastrous!! I couldn't put it away and when i did i kept thinking of it, what will happen to Davran, to the others, how the story will end??

Davran is one of the greatest fantasy characters i ever read about! So touching, strong yet compassionate and loving and caring!! She's simply amazing!

The end is simply what it must be!! The right end! Of course until the last chapter i couldn't think of it; but it was perfect!

A great, fast paced fantasy that i greatly enjoyed and i really recommend it to all my friends!

Great job Mr David :)

I was given a copy of this book by the author in return for my review.

This one didn't start off quite where the previous one finished and it took me a moment to remember who everyone was and how they'd all got to where they were. I could only really remember the main character, Davran, which was probably more my fault for leaving it so long between reading book 2 and 3, but after a few chapters I had caught up with everything.

I was looking forward to finding out a few things in this book that appeared to be glossed over at first but most of my questions were satisfied by the end of the book so no complaints there. After all, every good series has some questions left unanswered.

Writing and plot wise I think this was by far the strongest of the three books. I just loved it and found it very hard to put the book down. The author had progressed through the series and really made this book work, especially all the ending stuff. The last few chapters were wonderfully woven together and not at all what I expected.

Like the first two there's plenty of standard fantasy stuff, with dragons, creatures, different races and a bad guy. With a perfectly amazing ending that still had me feeling surprised even though it wasn't an uncommon ending to this sort of book, I felt very satisfied by the time I'd finished.

Possibly one of my favourite books so far this year.

The whole Trilogy made for excellent reading the last book tied things up together rather nicely in regards to bringing the series to a close. Like how she gained her knowledge which I thought was different in and of itself.

The final book to the Fuel to the Fire is absolutely spectacular. Elemental Cascade by David M. Staniforth has written an exceptionally well thought out series.

I read the first one and loved it, the second one I fell more in love with it, I actually thought it was better than the first and this upset me, why well I had one left and the series was suddenly coming ot an end quite quickly. I was very happy that this was by far the longest of the three books.

With the previous books they each dealt with a part of the prophecy, suddenly Davran has to find her place in the world now having brought about the destruction of the barrier and the combing of the two worlds. It’s understandable at times she’s at a loose end and it’s easily forgotten she’s only 16 during most of this series as she seems to grow so much you can’t help but start to think she’s in her 20s with all she’s been through.

But of course the journey isn’t over yet otherwise there wouldn’t be a third book, nope there was one person or thing that was in the previous world with Davran that survived and is determined to cause trouble, Grizzle. Now there should be some sort of warning with this book, not only should you have a strong stomach but you should also watch out for Grizzle using her powers to send you to sleep or even making you scratch.

I found only one aspect of this book to be annoying and it turns out the characters in the book also found her to be annoying, I was not upset when her particular story line shut down in the story, but without her we wouldn’t have gotten to the glorious ending that the book gives us.

Along with new characters to the series we have a new race as well, or at least one previously mentioned but not met before, the Onkor were fabulous and by the descriptions in their village I want to vacation there this year. I loved them, not only were they insanely clever but they just lived in the most incredible place. Their lives are fairly normal, if you consider the amount of time they spend with dragons normal.

Which brings me on swiftly to the amount of dragons in this book, its crazy, hundreds and hundreds of dragons of all sorts of colours. There was also hundreds and hundreds of razor hounds, so there was definitely a balance of scary, which of course is like the story of the book in general, good versus evil and the balance of both in society. You have Grizzle in the pure evil category and Davran in the pure good category and somewhere in between is most of the population of the planet. Who will win, who will lose, and who will survive? Read the book to find out.

A wonderful book, and a fantastic series, highly recommend it for anyone who is a fan of dragons, magic or prophecies.

Review originally posted on my blog -

Wow. What an end to the trilogy! Beautifully written and very descriptive, Staniforth, as in the previous two books, transports the reader to the wonderful (and the not so wonderful) places that Davran visits, effortlessly. The places that Davran visits, particularly the Onktor Valley, really came to life on the page and made me feel like I was experiencing it for myself. I found this book impossible to put this book down as I wanted to continue my journey with Davran and her friends and family.

We really see Davran grow as a person in this book. At just 16 years old, the fate of the world and all that she loves rests on her shoulders. Despite this burden, Davran remains a strong female character that is loyal to her friends and family, but willing to do the right thing, no matter how difficult. I really felt like I was taking the journey with her; I was happy when she was, sad when she was, and fearful when she was.

I also loved that my favourite characters (particularly Khalil!),as well as some new faces, appeared again. Every character in this book is beautifully constructed and believable; yes, they have flaws, but it makes them seem real. Avoiding spoilers, there was one event with Ronyn that had me screaming at the book and wanting to hunt down the author, but after further reading (that involved staying up wayyy too late), that event was resolved.

Without giving too much away, I thought that the ending was extremely fitting, and a perfect place to say goodbye to my favourite characters. While Davran lived in a world that I would definitely not want to be a part of, I really felt that I knew her and the other characters. I've been with her when she had to dress as a boy to survive, I've been with her as she faced up against Saurian, I've been with her as she fell in love, and I've been with her as the prophecy finally unravels. If I'm honest, I am sad that my time with this series is over.

The third and final book of the Fuel to the Fire series & wow, what a finish! The ending was wrapped up absolutely beautifully and had the desired conclusion.

I have to say, i was sad to finish. I'm going to miss Davran and Ronyn, the characters were utterly stunning and kept me gripped on until the very end. Davran as usual was a fantastic protagonist, she's such a wonderfully strong female lead. She wasn't without her flaws, but the characters in this book were so human, none of them were perfect.

Book's One and Two were amazing in their own way, but this has to be my favourite of the three. The story really took you in and got really gritty in parts. Grizzle was beyond a doubt one of the most despicable characters I’ve ever had the misfortune of meeting. She was outright vile and (excuse the use of the word) an exceptional 'Baddy'. I don’t think that the author could have done a better job making a character we love to hate! ... though i bordered more on the hatred side personally.

I usually pride myself in guessing the ending to books & working out the 'who did it' before its time, but i genuinely did not see this ending coming! That in itself earned the 5*'s.

Also, i loved the spectacular amount of magical creatures used in this title. Being a huge fan of dragons anyway, i was undeniably loving their huge role this time around. We also met a new race named the Onktors, I’m just sad we only just met them in the last book of the three.

A huge pat on the back and hair ruffle for David Staniforth. He managed to bring alive the wonderful story of Davran, the girl of prophecy. A book series i would willingly recommend to any fantasy lover.

Unnecessary third book, the story line was wrapped up in the first two. This felt like the author was trying to write a 600 page book in the time allotted for a 400 page one.

A number of mechanics got away from him, like how dragons can and cannot generate fire, and the introduction of new aspects of veridium was unnecessary and could have been solved way more elegantly.

The ending had good bones, but the way it was resolved was needlessly confusing leaving the actual explanation of what happened until the third from last page so the reader spends the last hour of the book confused and frustrated. It also got a bit repetitive talking about the current state over and over since he couldn't talk about the meaning behind what was actively happening.

It could have been solid if he had tightened up the story more and worked harder to resolve the mechanics within the world rather than make up new stuff.

We first met Davran in Fuel to the Fire, the first of this trilogy. As with all trilogies, you really need to have read the first two books to know who the characters are and what their relationship is to each other. This book is the archetypal battle between good and evil and there remains the possibility that many, even most, will die. This book is a gift for lovers of the dragon! They exist in number and variety and play a significant role.

David Staniforth has a gift for description and I’ve enjoyed this aspect of all his fantasy works. He is also skilled in writing the sort of villain you love to hate. You will find both in here and a plot which will leave you on tenterhooks to the very end. Excellent stuff!

This book is an absolutely amazing read, and finishes the trilogy fantastically! Like the others in this trilogy, the book is wonderfully written, the characters are well-rounded, and the descriptions are excellent. Also, the plot moves at a nice pace, and keeps you guessing right to the end.

Warning: due to extremely detailed descriptions, those with very weak stomaches are advised to avoid eating while reading this book; I'm not kidding!

The third and final book in the Fuel to the Fire trilogy brings the story to a satisfying end. All the elements that made the first two books (which you should read first for full enjoyment!) are also to be found in this volume - good storyline, characters and a really nasty baddie

ELEMENTAL CASCADE (FUEL TO THE FIRE BOOK 3)

This is the final book in this series and this one I just wasn't as thrilled with and had to push myself through til about half way through then it seems like that's where it picked up the most. I enjoyed a few of the characters and lives they had but one for sure just wasn't my cup of Grizzly and if you read this then you will see what happens and what I'm talking about...May your reading journeys be interesting and fun til next time watch the skies and watch those Grizzlies...
