"Echo in Time delivers on ""the possibility of an equally thrilling sequel"" (Kirkus Reviews) to Erasing Time.
After being pulled 400 years into the future, twins Taylor and Sheridan found some refuge from the government of Traventon, which used the dangerous Time Strainer to yank the girls from the past. Yet the threat of the dangerous technology still looms. Taylor and an ally, Joseph, are selected to go on a mission to destroy the time machine and weapon. But their actions before they do may have major consequences for the future and the past.
Action-packed and romantic, this futuristic sequel to Erasing Time is perfect for fans of dystopian and sci-fi novels such as The Maze Runner by James Dashner, Across the Universe by Beth Revis, and Matched by Ally Condie.
I was really worried I wouldn't enjoy this one - When it became clear that Taylor was the main focus, rather than Sheridan, I was a little upset. (Come on, Sheridan is awesome!) But then the pace starts to pick up once they get to Traverton, and I forgot to be worried.
This book does mess with the time stream more than the first one, so I was prepared to be confused, since most authors can't seem to help the confusion. I always felt like I knew what was going on though. I also liked her explanation about deja vu and the such. Time travel novels are hard to pull off! This one handled it splendidly. The plot was solid with everything thought out and no major plot holes.
I LOVED the witty banter and misunderstandings about 21st century sayings and customs. So clever. I also really liked the way 'religious' elements actually affected how characters acted - lots of novels try to ignore that. The whole Prodigal Son thing made me sniffle a little :)
Loved reading it, loved the fast pace and all the action. I wanted to strangle a character whose name started with an A, and wanted to kiss Echo myself. The author does a good job of showing how everyone can be matched so differently.
I'm curious about whether there will be a third book. Things wrapped up nicely in this one, and I can't imagine how things would end up any differently, but I still feel bad for Sheridan and Taylor's family back in the past.
This one picks up where the first leaves off. I won't say too much since I don't want to give any spoilers. It's told in multiple POV this time, which was nice since there was a lot going on and it helped keep you invested in the different characters. This was action packed and had more world-building going on. I liked the twists the story took and the character development. I wasn't a huge fan of Taylor in the first book, but came to like her in this one. It would be fun to have more books set in this world, but this all wraps up nicely as a duology.
Content Rated PG Clean, mild kissing. No language, some mild violence -death, being held captive. Nothing overly graphic or disturbing.
I'm so excited to be a part of this tour with Fire and Ice. C.J. Hill is a favorite author around my house so of course to be a part of her new release, Echo in Time, made me a happy girl! This is the second book in this series and if you haven't read the first book, Erasing Time, you really should! Right now it is only .99 cents on Amazon. That's a killer sweet deal!
Identical twins, Sheridan and Taylor are stuck in the future- 400 years in the future to be exact. In this book Taylor and Joseph are sent on a mission back to the hub of danger. They have to destroy the Time Strainer. Secrets and hidden agendas make for a dangerous decision that changes everything and suddenly lives of more are at stake.
I love the connection between Sheridan and Taylor. They are quite different personalities but when tested, I think they are more alike than they originally thought. Sheridan realizes that she is stronger than she thought and smarter too. Taylor, for all her blustering, has a heart. She is loyal and brave and she cares about people. Sheridan and Taylor work separately for most of this book but their primary goal is always protecting the other.
This book has time travel, action, intrigue, humor and a little bit of romance thrown in. That sounds like the perfect recipe for a great book to me. The icing on the cake for me is that this is a book I can easily share with my daughter and my niece without any reservations. No swearing, no sex, just a good, clean story. I love that.
I'm loving this series. This book was the perfect read for the New Year.
(I'm hosting a giveaway for a print copy of Erasing Time, the first book on my blog now through Jan 10th 2014 - US only.)
One of the best things about this book, and the first one, is the super fun and crazy way the people look and dress in the future. I find this very exciting. Before reading this, I thought we were all doomed to matching silver jumpsuits at some point, so this is very encouraging. Here are a couple of descriptions:
"One woman walked by with a hat shaped like a miniature merry-go-round. Another woman was wearing two mechanical birds from her ears. They chirped a tinny melody."
Fun, huh? And, that goes with extremely loud colors, dyed crazy hair colors, and daily face painting. I like this wacky, colorful view of future fashion!
As for the story, it was more from Taylor's pov this time, which I didn't care for at first, but I got used to her. She was very bitchy in the beginning and I missed reading more from Sheridon's pov. But, I did like Echo, and thought that he rounded out Taylor very well.
Echo in Time picks up just a couple of months after Erasing Time ends. Twins, Sheridan and Taylor along with Joseph have safely made it another city, but now Taylor and Joseph are selected to go back to Traventon to destroy the time machine. Yes, they're going back to the city they just escaped from.
Of course things don't go as smoothly as they hoped and it doesn't help that Joseph has a secret (again!) and it changes EVERYTHING! It has a huge consequence that he didn't foresee. You can't mess with time and expect everything else to stay the same. Events interconnect and you don't know what the consequences will be when you change one thing.
There's a lot more action in this sequel because time isn't wasted on the characters backstories (we already know the characters), and also because of what Joseph does. I didn't understand the title until something happened in the book. No spoilers here, you'll have to read it to find out. Even with all the action the author's sense of humor still comes through.
This sequel ties up everything really well, so there's no cliffhangers or loose ends. Thank you to the author for the Audible edition of this book to review. I offered to review it and my opinion of the book was not influenced in any way.
I read Erasing Time just over a year ago, and was a little worried that I'd be lost reading book two so much later. However, the author did a great job of recapping over the first few chapters.
I don't considered myself a sci-fi fan, but I've really liked this series. The time travel idea, and the crazy future depicted are intriguing. There is a lot of action in Echo in Time and the different personalities of the main characters kept their mission exciting. There were also several twists and turns that I didn't see coming that added to the excitement.
A couple of times I thought parts of the story had some great symbolism. I loved the sacrifices that were made, and the love for a wayward child. Tears came to my eyes at least once.
Although I imagine this series is going to continue, the ending of Echo in Time was satisfying-no cliffhanger that has me frustrated that there's not another book out yet.
This is a great YA series, with lots of action and a touch of romance. As always, CJ Hill writes a clean and entertaining story.
Visit my blog, , on January 6, 2014, for a chance to win a copy of Book 1 as part of the Echo in Time Blog Tour.
I have found a favorite series. I would love to have this set in my personal library and read it over and over. Mostly so I can remember all the fun phrases and witty come backs. Great characters and great dialogue. The twins are safely out of the city and then Taylor decides to go back with Joseph to make sure they don't use the 'time machine' again. Of course Joseph decides he has to change history and bring back Echo and Echo has to change time and bring back a total looser girl. But they all figure out how to work together in the end. I felt most sorry for Sheridan and all she went through.
Loved the banter between Echo and Taylor, wish there had been more Joseph and Sheridan. Everyone grew emotionally, loved the religious banter. And I loved that the whole story could be told in two books!
No language, Some violence (mental torture, shooting), No sex (kissing).
This series just keeps getting better! Hill has done a fabulous job of creating characters that you can connect with. She also does a great job with world building. Now that I am finished, I realize that I could picture everything about the 25th Century perfectly. It was like a solid thing in my mind as I read, which is something I love. With all the crazy things in the future, Hill described them just enough to make my imagine recreate the world. Usually, in a series, I like the first book best, but I think I like this one a tad bit more than Erasing Time. BUT! I still enjoyed it! These are great books if you enjoy some sci-fi!!
(My dryer broke last night so I had an excuse not to do my laundry today and sit around and read this morning instead. Ha!)
Really enjoyed this sequel. Just as great as the first one. Major twist there in the middle. Had me entertained from page one. It also did a great job of reviewing from Book 1 if you haven't read that one in awhile. Good, clean fun!
Moral Note: Mild violence, clean language, clean romance.
Pretty good sequel... Echo in Time starts off with Joseph and Taylor being sent off on a mission to destroy the QGPs (essentially prototypes of the time transportation machine), as well as to kill Reilly. In case you don't remember, Reilly is the only person other thanTaylor capable of building a QGP, and he has intentions of using it as a weapon... Anyways, Joseph and Taylor make Sheridan stay behind to keep her safe... Unfortunately, Joseph has a hidden agenda, which leads to a series of catastrophic events....
I didn't LOVE this book because of a couple things... This one messed with the "time stream" more, which I'm never a huge fan of in books or movies... I just don't love alternate realities. Dealing with the changes always seems over simplistic or overly dramatic. Pretty much, I have yet to enjoy a book that deals with changing events in the past and going back into the future. It's not really a black mark against the book if you like that sort of thing, it's just not my favorite. The second reason I wasn't as in love with this book as the last one, Sheriden was my favorite character in the last book, and she is barely in this book!!! Plus, I felt like the resolution of her relationship with Joseph was disappointing somehow...
Despite all that ^, I still found the plot line engaging, the characters relatable, and the writing enjoyable (although to be honest, I usually get so sucked into the plot I don't pay much attention to writing unless it's horrid). CJ Hill (aka Janette Rallison) writes a good story. I'll definitely be reading everything else she publishes.
Echo in Time started a few weeks after the end of Erasing Time. The beginning was a little slow for me because I felt a connection with Sheridan in the first book then this book started with chapters from Taylor’s point of view. I hadn’t connected with Taylor as much in the first book since I thought she was a little snotty. So I felt impatient reading Taylor’s POV at the beginning, but I was pleasantly surprised to learn to love and respect Taylor.
The characters in C.J. Hill’s books are always amazing, even the side characters. There were some funny moments and some fun romance that made me smile.
Some heart breaking things happened in the story, but things didn’t get too dark or heavy. That’s my kind of book. Serious, happy, with some romance too. This seemed to be the end of the series. It came to a great conclusion. I really enjoyed Erasing Time and Echo in Time and recommend them to all clean romance/ action lovers.

*I received the book from the publisher. I am not paid for my reviews. My reviews are solely my opinion.*
What a great sequel to Erasing Time! C.J. Hill is a clever writer. It’s Dystopia, Time Traveling, and Romance all wrapped up in a great adventure. The book continues with the funny slang words we use that make no sense in the future.
Spoiler alert if you haven’t read book one:
The story continues with Taylor and Sheridan who got sucked up in a time machine to the 25th century. It’s only been a couple months since they escaped Traventon. They are living in Santa Fe. Sheridan and Joseph are in the beginnings of a developing relationship. The government in Santa Fe believes the time strainer is dangerous. Taylor and Joseph and some of Santa Fe finest military men are picked to go back and destroy the machine. The assignment is dangerous but all is going as planned until they learn everyone has their own secret mission. When Joseph uses the time machine to save his twin brother Echo it messes with time and now Sheridan never escaped from Traventon. Joseph has to save her before her mind is wiped clean. Echo is trying to help Taylor destroy the time strainer but he has his own agenda too and nothing is going smoothly. Will they be able to escape Traventon, again?

This book is a good Sci-fi. It is clean, romance? Yes but, not at all heavy. The characters are still like able, and Hill, bring Joseph brother, Echo into the mix. Joseph brings his brother back from the dead....er....he saves him. By do that Joseph messed up time. So instead Sheridan escaping w/ Joseph and her sister Taylor, she get thrown in prison. So now Joseph needs to save Sheridan.
Echo, in turn bring's the ex-girlfriend. Dumps her, and starts a romance with Taylor. This book is a perfect example of "wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey" sorry Whovians, but it needed to be said. I was almost expected Hill, to say something like that.
Sheridan, gets a chip planted in her brain. The chip, made so that she can't tell what is reality, or not. Overall the book need to have a 4.5 star. It was still a little slow, but so much fun and quirky moments that I think made up for the pace.

A stellar squeal to Erasing Time. I was definitely caught off guard by all the twists and turn. I gauge how good a book is by how much emotion the author can evoke. I must say that this book had me on edge and kept me turning the pages. I highly recommend this series for anyone who is looking for a good YA series.
I admire C.J. Hill and hope that maybe I can write as well as her someday. The way she develops her characters so they claim a piece of your heart, and stay with you, is true talent.
Echo in Time by C. J. Hill is the action packed sequel to Erasing Time. I love her witty sci-fi futuristic setting and play on words. Hill portrays the unique characteristics in twins while novelizing ills in society. Dystopia, Science Fiction, Romance, and Suspense readers will find Echo in Time to be a very satisfying read.
This was exciting and almost as good as the first book. The world-building was solid, the new characters interesting, and the pace unrelenting. The romance was a little too convenient for me, but I still enjoyed it. :)
i think this book is really interesting especially since it is in the future. we really do not know what will happen in the future but this book gives us a glimps of what could happen in the future which makes it seem really interesting.
Although maybe more suitable for young adults, I loved it (I'm 36). It was gripping, kept you engaged chapter through chapter. It also had the teenage romance to make it more sensitive. I loved it. The first one was quite nice too (Erasing Time).
I liked book 2 even more than book 1 and I enjoyed some of C.J. Hill/Janette Rallison's snappy dialog toward the end of the book. Great story. Sorry there isn't a book 3.
I won a copy of the audio book on the author's blog and I wanted to thank her by hurrying to get this review out. I picked up the first book in the series, , and listened to it first. You can read that review on ŷ or . I liked that one but I liked this one even more.
The first book focused on Sheridan and Echo. This time around it's Taylor and Echo's turn. The plot revolves around an attempt to destroy the time machine for good. Things go wrong when an attempt to fix something in the past causes unforeseen consequences in the present. Have these people never read a time travel book? Of course it does! Taylor has to race against the clock to save Sheridan from the villain of the first book and she does it with Echo's help. Despite her best intentions, Taylor finds herself attracted to Echo but no worries, this is not one of those dreaded love triangles.
The character growth in this book is stronger than in the first one and both Taylor and Echo have further to go than Sheridan and Echo did in the first one. There are more complications and a ton of action but you still feel like you're going on a journey with the characters and that makes for a better book than the first one in the series. I enjoyed the ride.
I give this one an enthusiastic five stars and I'm sorry there are no more books in the series.
Book 1 in the Erasing Time series has the twins, Sheridan and Taylor “sucked-into-the-future thing. It ends with Taylor sending signals to destroy the QGP (quark-gluon plasma converter) machine in the 21st century. However, Dr. Reilly, who had stolen Taylor’s groundbreaking work and accidentally got himself sent to the future, is working on making QGP machines in the 25th century. He’s the reason Taylor (and Sheridan by accident) were sucked in the future because he needed Taylor’s knowledge about QGP. Her invention had so many possibilities for good things but all the scientists and Dr. Reilly wanted to use it for was as a weapon. Book 2 plays on even more of the conundrums of time travel. “If you strain someone out of the past, you risk changing history’s time stream to a point that you might not exist in the present. Even if you’re not a direct descendant of the person you strained, there is no way to measure the effect one person has on a society. Enjoyed that this second book is more from Taylor’s viewpoint while book 1 was more from Sheridan’s viewpoint. Good conclusion to the duology.
I had my doubts about the sequel to Erasing Time. Where could she possibly go from the end of that book? Everything was tied up tightly and resolved.
Wow. Was I ever wrong! An amazing sequel!
CJ Hill (aka Janette Rallison) is a talented and humorous Young Adult novelist. She has such twists and turns in her story and has done such a good job of world-building that she is free to develop her characters.
I love her sense of humor! It is so rare to find a novelist who can write humor, that when you find one, you treasure her.
I rarely give 5 stars, but this book is something special!
(I listened to this on audible and the reader does a wonderful job. He varies his British/American accents; it may not be 100% in keeping with the book's futuristic world, but it is definitely helpful in differentiating characters.)
* poor, **ok, ***good, ****very good, something special
Second (and seems the last) in the Erasing Time series. Sheridan and Taylor haven been taken to the future and are battling against a, well, mad scientist that wants to use Taylor's invention from her own time to find, locate and kill people from the past that doesn't fit into his own agenda. Taylor is the only one that can destroy her machine, Joseph is a close second. They gather a team and go back to the city to destroy the machine before it can be used for evil. Before Taylor can do what is needed, Joseph has another agenda to complete first. He wants to save his brother Echo and bring him back from the past/dead. In doing so, the events of the last 2.5 months has altered and suddenly, new memories are coming and they all find out what a horrible mistake Joseph made. By bringing Echo back, events have changed that Sheridan is now a prisoner to the evil scientist.
What happens when you play with time? What consequences will you face? This book picks up not too far from where the last one ends. Sheridan, Joseph, and Taylor are left trying to answer these questions as they are trying to make things right. This book was fun! I loved the moral consequences they were faced and how they handled them. I love that Joseph was led by guilt at the beginning and guilt later on. It shows he has a good heart and wants what is best for those he loves. I especially liked the whit and sarcasm between Jospeh and Taylor. They make a good team! And, just like the 1st book, I am touched by the sibling love and the lengths they will go to help and protect. Great story! 4.5! Thank you, CJ!
The Butterfly Effect Generally I look at series to see if the stories hang on their own. In this case, although you would enjoy a good adventure if just reading book two, I'd strongly recommend enjoying these tales sequentially. Book one posits a means of time travel involving converting matter to energy (not quite "Beam me up, Scotty," but I'll bet scientists might argue the principles are the same). In book two, an attempt to "fix" an action in the past creates a change in the timeline which has major repercussions. As in book one, the narration by Alexander Doddy is a bonus (despite his British accent for the American characters--quickly forgotten in the rapid-moving plot and delightful storytelling).
My feelings are solidified: this series would have been better without the romance lines. 🤷🏻♀ I don’t think there was enough character interaction for me to feel it was believable, ESPECIALLY the new one in this book. It felt more like, “oh wouldn’t it be nice to have two sets of identical twins dating? I actually don’t ever like that scenario. So even if it had been done well I wouldn’t have liked it.
BUT. The story here was great! It’s super rare I’m voting for no romance in a book, so if I do think that, then the story stood well enough without it. I thought the Allana thing was dumb, and didn’t add much to the plot. But the timeline warping and the deja vu explanation were a clever addition to the series.
