Ever dreamed of having an adventure in another world? To wield magical powers, to save a princess—maybe even slay a dragon or two? Yeah you really shouldn't. Trust me, I’m the expert.
After ten years of surviving in a fantasy world and killing the Demon Queen, I’m finally back on Earth—safe with my family, reunited with civilization, and ready for some well‑earned peace. Or so I thought.
Congratulations, Earth is being integrated into the Atheos System! You’re being summoned to the Tutorial. Anomalous status detected Assigning Impossible.
Oh, crap. Here we go again...
First it was that kingdom—and their goddess—who never heard of consent. Now my own planet is going full apocalypse on humanity. Lucky me, as I’ve already reached the pinnacle of Elemental Cultivation—Air, Lightning, and Gravity are mine to command. My abs? Bulletproof. Bench press? Over 9000. Next up, I get to master a new kind of Levels, Archetypes, Skills. I might just be the strongest Level 0 out there—and I’m not stopping anytime soon.
If the Atheos System wants to test me, it’s about to learn I’ve been through hell and back.
And that for me, nothing is truly Impossible.
About the “Apocalypse Returnee is the first installment of the new LitRPG Apocalypse series with an Isekai twist. Perfect for fans of the Primal Hunter, Dungeon Crawler Carl and all things progression fantasy. Join Clinton Wyatt on his quest to find his sister, whatever it takes. Even if it means making some questionable choices... Very questionable choices.
This is a power fantasy either generated by ChatGPT or written by someone who doesn’t understand how to write believable characters, settings or establish a world I’d want to read about. I’ll list a vague description of what has occurred in the story so far.
Hero returns to earth after 10 years on a fantasy world where they have defeated the demon queen.
Hero arrives naked in an alley in time to interrupt a mugging.
Hero goes to an Internet cafe to play a game until morning.
Hero goes home and finds his sister and a friend in his childhood home. It takes 4 sentences of very short conversation for the sister to progress from who are you to yippee my brother is home.
And suddenly a system integration occurs.
This is the first 2 or 3 chapters of the book. I’m not sure if my description is more or less entertaining than what I read from this author.
This story may develop into something interesting going forward, but the first few chapters of a book need to be written well enough to be entertaining to a reader. I was not entertained. I wasn’t even interested. I was rolling my eyes at every situation and scenario and the ham fisted execution of the author.
I got excited reading the summary. I really wanted to like this book. I lost interest in the first chapter, kept going... gave up in the second chapter. Maybe if I was younger, and new to the genre I would have liked this book, but for me i couldn't connect with the MC and the writing felt off, too much like trying to be smart & snarky but falling short.
I'll probably try a few more times to read this in the future in case I'm just not in the right headspace to enjoy, in which case I'll delete or modify this review
Bland "I did this, then I did this, then I did this" style writing, weird brand name changes for no apparent reason (McTrump, Cosmic Craft, etc), and the straw that broke the camel's back: buying a pair of jeans and a T-shirt from a thrift store for $500. WTF. If the guy doesn't even know what basic clothes cost AND can't be bothered to find out, I just know I'm going to have a bad time down the line.
Because Amazon is being Amazon, this review will only be on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ.
I really wanted to love this book, but I couldn't love it. I did like it. The problem is that it went silly. Most people are not going to mind this, but it is just something that is a bit of a sticking point for me. The book is very well written, as is par for the course for Mr. Step. There are also some legitimate laugh out laugh funny parts in this book. It just deviates too much into silliness for me.
Honestly, most people are probably going to love this book. It was just not really my cup of tea. I'll try to give the next one a chance, as new series can sometimes be a bit hard to judge. Even though this was not really my cup of tea, I will also not ding this book on a ratings.
It's well written and a pretty good story. For me, though, it just kept dragging out things that didn't really matter. Every fight should have been a paragraph instead of a chapter. The time hopping was annoying, and the MC just made no sense in half his actions. Ohh I need to spend three quarters of the chapter analyzing my opponent and wasting three quarters of my mana. Every fight. Just boring. I still gave it 4 stars because if it where my first litrpg experience I would have probably enjoyed it more and as I said it is well written, just not for me if the series continues like this.
This book has a real problem with pacing and with MC agency. It makes no sense for the system to have taken him into it then giving him an impossible challenge, then wanted to pay him for taking some of his skills but then make him in system debt so he only gets 10% of system points... He's in a weird amusement park where he had to protect people as part of his quest. However, he is stronger than almost every being in the park, and the book also keeps going backwards into his past where he was isekai-ed to another kingdom.. I felt every spec of my ADHD trying to read this book! Definitely won't continue
Decent story, whole book is like a single day though, a lot of stuff happens, basically zero progression of the the storyline, kid gets transported to another world, learns magic for like 10 years gets sent back to earth just as earth is getting assimilated, and gets transported to the tutorial a crazy circus world where he has to complete a quest, before he even gets through the first step it’s done. The story is alright and you get a few flashbacks that give you the backstory, but that’s basically the entire book in a lot fewer words.
likable MC good world building but ends on a cliffhanger so if you don’t want to wait for the next book, don’t read this one
Pretty good book, very interesting storyline, likable MC. That’s excellent world building, the only issue is the story didn’t kind of end on a cliffhanger. It did end on a cliffhanger and I don’t see how you as author in your after word said the main storyline was concluded, it wasn’t. Will read the next book in the series, but only four stars cause it did in the cliffhanger.
Overall I enjoyed reading. It is set in an amusement park which gives all sorts of weird vibes. Main character is morally grayish tries to be good but is willing to go all out to find his family. I have questions on how this system could even work for a long term world. It seems it would self destruct. System is definitely out to get MC. The end made me want next book immediately but thankfully not a cliffhanger.
Cool premise. There is a good seed here. Unfortunately the characters are not relatable, the systems are overly exposited, the fights are poorly paced, the relationships are lifeless, and the themes are nonsense. This reads like the worst version of the idea; ignoring the proofreading issues. Not recommended.
The best parts of the story were the flashbacks to his time on Limera. I finished just so I could find out how the MC’s time there ended. I really disliked all the skills theory which took up som much space. It’s more important to gamers but I believe it detracts from the storyline. The whole evil carnival theme creeped me out.
Lots of editing errors & ill advised Trump references
Referencing a divisive political figure in your fiction is a terrible idea. At best you’re going to annoy a good chunk of your readers. Aside from that, the generally poor editing, weak dialog and mediocre world building drags the book down.
Well, this book had a whole lot of potential. It started out great, but by the end of the book, I was just wishing for it to be over. It did end pretty well though, so that did redeem it a bit, but I've not decided if I'll read more in this series or not.
It felt like it jumped all over the place for no rime or reason, and things were just sort of smashed together. Then people are randomly added and then die, or the character randomly does something.
You really made the system loop-sided has we never got a real grasp of what normal users are like either OP/mixed powered individuals against the protagonist so I never really got a proper understand of power compared to normal users.
Did not finish. The writing wasn't terrible overall, but the premise and the magic systems were just too ridiculous for my tastes. This felt more like a parody of LitRPG, rather than an actual entry into the genre.
Not going to lie the convoluted forced tutorial is boring as hell. The flash backs to him on another world are far more interesting than the rest of the story. Should have just written that book instead.
I quit about a third of the way in. There were no likable characters, the story was boring, and the setup was very forced. Nothing about this grabbed me, and I felt no reason to continue.
