Men of Manhattan #4

A Working Man

Rate this book
Matthew Hawke’s professional life is soaring as high the powerful bird of prey whose image is inked on his back. He’s at the top of his game as the owner of an advertising agency that is scooping up prime accounts like a mighty hawk wrapping its talons around an unfortunate ground rodent. Yes, work is good. Too bad his love life has more in common with the dying rodent than the triumphant hawk. When the thought of a sexy man trumps actually being with a sexy woman, Matthew thinks it might be time for a change. And there IS a gorgeous man at the gym he’s noticed.

Drakon Mavros is working his shapely ass off to make ends meet. His administrative assistant job at a messenger service is steady, but the money he gets from his more creative job pays most of the bills. An ex-boyfriend took his confidence, his trust and his self-esteem and Drakon is afraid to take another chance at love. When an adorably goofy man at his gym actually hurts himself trying to flirt with him, Drakon can’t resist falling under Matt’s spell. He makes Drakon feel good about himself again and praises his artistic talent neither of which his ex ever did.

As the men begin to fall for one another, it appears nothing can go wrong they seem to be soul mates. Secrets and lies can crack even the firmest foundation, though. It takes a true master to shore it up so that it never crumbles. Is love the mortar that can restore trust and faith and bind men forever? Only time will tell. Can Drakon and Matt take that chance?

I have been blessed in this life to not only have parents that support me, but kids that do as well. I grew up in a loving but "Old School" French household. My parents worked for the airlines (TWA) so I was able to see a lot of Europe as a kid. I moved to Seattle Washington at the age of 22 and stayed there for twelve years before moving to Alaska for a little over two. Fairbanks, AK was one hell of an experience and I wouldn't hesitate to go back! I spent a little over a year in South Carolina before moving back to Arizona. I then left for Kansas for five years and now reside in Arizona. I've been connected to the military in one way or another for over half my life and wouldn't change a thing about it. Writing has become my full time job and I've never been so happy doing a job I love and being able to do it in my jammies. I plan on writing until I dry up and die. Hopefully, that won't happen soon!

Take common sense, critical thinking, and everything you know about how the world and relationships work. Stuff 'em in a box. And throw away the key.

Done? Excellent.

Now you can properly enjoy this book.

Matthew Hawke, the boss of Hawke Advertising, can no longer get it up or keep it hard for a woman. In desperation, he calls a porno line, but ends up dialing a gay sex line by accident (this was the first of many such coincidences and misunderstandings); the voice of the sexy Drake reels him in, and Matthew introduces himself as Roy, pouring on the Southern accent.

In the meantime, in a galaxy right around the corner, Matthew meets the handsome Drakon at the gym. But...WAIT...those names are so similar? And both Drake/Drakon love Twinkies?

HEY, remember: fuck LOGIC!

Roy and Drake, and their counterparts, Matt and Drakon, develop feelings for one another. The plot strains credibility, but the story is fun and sexy and light. We see all three of the other couples in passing. In fact, Blaine and Spencer are getting married!

I loved Matthew in this book, even though he was dense and infuriating at times. And Drakon, well, he was super sweet and all kinds of talented but also insecure (he had a shitty ex who gets his comeuppance, sort of) and a bit hasty to judge.

The story features overprotective Greek fathers, well-meaning friends, walks in Central Park, a whirlwind romance, a purple dildo named Roy, and a sparkly HEA.

Bottoms up!

Dear book,
description

Skimmed after 62%.

I should've listened to the lovely Dani and abandoned any notions of seeing any logic or realism in this book and just maybe I wouldn't have been left feeling frustrated over a 130-page book that was pretty much crack.
description

I liked Matt. He was as promised: dorky, funny, and a lovable character.
description

Drakon?
Not so much.
description
He was described as "sweet, smart, and caring."
Umm... I don't think so.
description
The Drakon I read about was a judgmental, little prat who covered his judgy, hoity-toity attitude by saying that the reason he doesn't date guys with money because he is not "good enough" for them. You ruined any enjoyment I was getting out of this book, you brat. Here's the swift kick in the ass you deserve:

Ooooh doggie, you gotta suspend a lot of belief to get into this one.

Allow me to set the scene.

Matt is a successful businessman who recently realizes that he's got an eye for the gentlemen. He meets a nice man at a masquerade ball and is intrigued, but unfortunately the man had to run off before Matt could get his name and number. A couple of weeks later, he decides to call a phone sex company and there he comes upon Drake. Matt is turned on by the sound of Drake's voice and he finds himself easily sharing his current predicament. Drake makes him feel comfortable and the two share some very hot late night phone calls. But alas, the two know that they will never meet. At the gym, Matt sees a handsome guy and works up the nerve to try and flirt with him....and well, things don't go that smoothly for Matt.

Drakon can't believe what his eyes have seen. The totally hot guy next to him just flew off the treadmill and nearly busted his head open. He offers to take the guy to the hospital to get checked out and ends up spending the afternoon with him. Matt is one of the sweetest, cutest and nicest guys Drakon has ever met. He instantly feels an attraction and an ease with him. But he's in a bit of a pickle because he's also kind of crushing on this guy he talks to at night during his part-time job as a phone sex operator. And let's not forget about that mystery man he met at a masquerade ball he went to a few weeks back.

Well, well, well....would you look at that....

Throw in a nice dose of that ever so famous plot device of "if I tell him this one little thing about me he'll run away and I'll lose him" (it's not the scenario above, that's resolved quickly) and you basically have this entire book in a nutshell.

But you know what? It was cute and sweet. Completely predictable, but it kept me reading. This is one of those books that would have had me rolling my eyes from cover to cover if I read it some other day, but for some reason I was in the mood for the sweet, the cute, the formulaic plot and the cheesy dialogue. Somehow it suited Matt and Drakon.

I probably would have rated this a 2.5, but I bumped up to 3 stars because we got more of Slater and Ramos' hilarious banter and another delicious taste of what's to come with Ramos and a certain Officer Callahan.

If you can get past the fact that Matthew Hawke named his dick "Rodeo Roy" (I kid you not) and all the ridiculous number of unlikely coincidences, then you'll find this RomCom romp pretty fun. Well, I did, anyway.

Matthew is a man who has recently been experiencing some bi-curiosity. He's seen his employees Blaine and Kent fall in love with their partners and he feels like there has been something missing in his life. And, he's been noticing men more than a straight guy would. So when he finally gets up the nerve to talk to Draken at the gym (he definitely made a lasting impression ) right around the time he mistakenly calls a gay phone sex line and starts talking to "Drake", Matthew discovers what the missing piece was.

Draken is a young man whose self esteem isn't where it should be. A bad experience when he was in college has left him with trust issues. And he also doesn't see himself as "good enough" for someone wealthy. But Draken has such a good heart and he sees in Matt someone he could be with for the long run. Well, except for this one wee bit of a deception. Which, IMO, Draken blows out of proportion. But that is the formula here.

But the antics while Matt and Draken get from A to Z are a comedy of ... well, I'm not sure what. But I just had to shake my head while they worked it out.

At the beginning of this book I thought "ok" this could be interesting!!! I was seriously and deeply disappointed in this book. There were no originality and it was just flat. I liked the characters but after the previous 3 books this one just felt like I missed something.

It could just be me but I missed the x factor that was in the first 3 books.

I've read other stories in this series, and I've been entertained, but this one is so much of a fairytale that I just couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy it.

Ah, I do love me some Sandrine Gasq-Dion!

So the fourth book in the Men of Manhattan series and this time we see Matthew Hawke, the up until now straight, boss of Hawke Advertising falling in love.

Third times the score!! The first time Matthew’s eyes are drawn to a gorgeous man the man runs off to deal with a toilet block. The second time it’s all in the voice as Matthew falls for the sexy voice of a sex phone operative. The third time he drools at the gym at the gorgeous hunk that he is too scared to go over and talk to.

His ideal man could very well be a mixture of all three!

Girls just aren’t doing it for Matthew anymore and he is feeling restless. When he miss dials a number for a sex chat line and ends up talking to a man instead of a woman and is the most turned on he has been in months he starts to question what he knows about himself. When he finally plucks up the courage to speak to the hunk in the gym after embarrassing himself he is pretty sure it is a man he wants!

Drakon works a few jobs to make ends meet and when the guy next to him flies off the treadmill he rescues him and takes him to hospital. He is very wary of meeting new people, especially men he could fancy after an ex stole all his confidence and trust but there is something about Matthew that draws him in.

The one thing Drakon will not put up with is lies in any shape or form.
Matthew is a very wealthy man but doesn’t brag and isn’t ostentatious. After a few dates with Drakon they have told each other all about their lives and families but Matthew has held back about what it is he does for a living afraid that his money will scare Drakon off. This lie of omission will come back to haunt him.

I love that the lives of their friends are already so entwined and it is always good to see characters from the previous books. Drakon’s father is hilarious and Sandrine has incorporated a lot of humour into the story. The moral of the tale is honesty is always the best policy! Oh, and who wouldn’t want a dildo named Roy?

Loved it!

I thought had been my favorite! But this! Oh, the feelings! OH, and the humor in this one! Sandrine had me guffawing - tears of laughter so many times.

I loved the premise that Matthew and Drakon had been circling each other for a while, without either of them knowing it, and that they had so many mutual friends and acquaintances offered some great moments.

And holy hotness!!

Mathew and Drakon's story is the lamest one so far or may be I have got used to Sandrine's brand of fun.May be.This is still one of my favorite series and couple of silly stories doesn't make a difference as the MC's are so adorable. One of the best part of this series is each of them have very supportive parents and kudos for that.

As a gay man, I’ll confess, I’ve ogled a lot of men over the years at the gym. But Matthew Hawke takes it to another level while when flirting with Drakon Mavros at the gym, he flies right off the moving treadmill into a wall! Welcome to Book #4 in Sandrine Gasq-Dion’s Men of Manhattan series. As with each of the books in the series, the story builds, but still incorporates the cast of characters we’ve come to know and love through the other books in the series. It could be read as a standalone, but I’d highly recommend you read the others first for continuity, because they are equally as good!

A Working Man is the tale of 5 distinct men, and their interactions. Matthew Hawke, the owner of Hawke Advertising; Drakon Mavros, the admin assistant at Cassidy Messengers with the huge sneaker fetish; Matt Rawlings, a southern gentleman who calls a straight phone sex line, but gets the wrong number and ends up with a man on the other end of the line; Drake, the young phone sex worker; and a mysterious masked man that Drakon met at a charity event at Men of Manhattan strip club.

This is a tale of Matthew, a “straight man realizing he is actually attracted to other men and the book starts out with a faked orgasm while he is having sex with a woman in chapter one. We follow his tale and the people he interacts with as the story develops. Throughout the book runs a major underlying lie, brought on by something which happened in Drakon’s past, with a host of background characters helping perpetuate this new lie. When the lie is uncovered all hell breaks loose. Peppered throughout the book is a bunch of very well written and believable man on man sex.

Amongst the background characters, one really struck me in this book. Drakon’s Ex-Boyfriend, Harper and his previous lies to Drakon. I wanted to jump in the book and punch him! How many times does someone of lessor talents convince someone else that they aren’t good enough because of jealousy? I would have liked a few more details of his confession, but only for personal reasons so that I could “dislike him even more!

I’m a huge fan of Sandrine Gasq-Dion and her books. I’m always left wanting the book not to end! This one was no exception. I want MORE! I hate that little number down in the bottom of the screen telling me I’m at 99%…stay away 100% please.!

REVIEW @

A Working Man is the third book in the Men of Manhattan series by Sandrine Gasq-Dion.

Not one of my fave so far, cause honestly? I found it a little unrealistic.

Matthew is 38 years old, the owner of an advertising firm who for the first time in his life is starting to be attracted to men, especially to a particular dark haired man he met at a masquerade party. He decides to try a sex hotline because he needs to know if he’s still attracted to women. But on the other side of the phone there’s a man with a sexy voice. It seems he’s not so straight after all.

Drakon is a 25 years old addicted to twinkies and colored sneakers, he started working for a sex line as Drake, while looking for a new job. He meets Matthew at the gym (not one of the finest moment for Matt, he was trying to flirt with Drakon and fell off the treadmill!)

Matt wants Drakon but keeps speaking with Drake at the hot line and thinking of the man with the mask. At the same time Drakon wants Matt but has fantasies with Roy(Matt) s voice.

Fortunately this big misunderstanding didn’t go to far in the story, but as I say I found it so unlikely, it was hard to me to really love this story, and in a way to me this situation smelled like cheating. I know it’s an extreme point of view, but I got this feeling that I couldn’t overcome. At the end it was like both of them has three men in his mind, the gym one, the party one and the sex line one. Not for me.

What I love about this series is that each book can be read as a standalone and you will miss nothing. But in each one of them you’ll find the characters you loved in the previous books, so for example if you want to know more about Matthew and Drake you just need to read the next book.

Well, I’m going straight to read A Healing Man, hoping to see these MCs again and learn to like them a little more.

Cover Art by Wilde City Press. I don’t like this series covers. They are pretty much the same with a different model for each book. They are good to look at but nothing more.

Matthew Hawke’s libido seems to have changed directions; being with a female is not working for him anymore. Matthew is sure the answer to his dilemma can be found in the arms of Drakon Mavros.

A Working Man is the fourth installment in the Men of Manhattan series. The heartwarming plot is a budding romance interlaced with a lie intended to prevent heartbreak. However, truth has a way of revealing itself at the most inconvenient times. The characters are believable.

Matthew is an enterprising proactive business owner. He is extremely personable; Matthew’s employees are his friends, the company’s success is a combined effort of everyone’s hard work. Although Matthew had never dated a man before meeting Drakon, Matthew is attracted to a person’s personality rather than their gender.

Drakon suffers from low self esteem. Drakon is a talented artist, but he is afraid his drawings are not worthy of notice. Drakon and Matthew have a lot in common. They both enjoy the simple things in life like walks in the park, spending time with friends and home cooked meals.

Sandrine Gasq-Dion has created another impressive installment to this fantastic romantic comedy series. Matthew and Drakon are both such down to earth compassionate men that I fell in love with both of them. I thoroughly enjoyed the humorous interactions between the characters, especially Drakon’s father as well as the naming of the toys; you must read the story to understand the toy reference. I suggest reading the series in sequence, starting with A Betting Man.

I do love the characters in this series. We see a lot of them in this installment but this story is focused on Hawke’s Advertising owner Matthew Hawke who at thirty-eight decided that he’s actually more into men. Then he meets Drakon (weird name yeah?) at the gym and hit it off right away. With a very low self-esteem, Drakon didn’t think that he’s capable of doing something bigger despite having a degree and knowing a lot of stuff. Matt however sees his worth but also didn’t want to push Drakon too hard fearing that by doing so, he’d lose the man but first, he’s got to let him know the truth about him.

The story was very contrived from the beginning what will all the coincidence of all their meetings but it was smooth flowing all throughout. I loved that there was no big brouhaha on their relationship. It was like all of their concerns are merely small things that they could work on right away and then can live happily ever after. I mentioned how contrived the story was and maybe it was with all of the gay couple in the series, the acceptance of their respective families and I don’t know their circle was like a gay mecca of some sort. I’m not complaining about it but I can’t help but smirked in my head about the incredulity of it at some point. But hey, I loved this series so far and I can’t wait to see more of the characters have their own story. I’m particularly looking forward on reading Ryan and Ramos’s story (the Callahan brothers would be a dream for them, tbh)

This book is disgustingly sweet, and the whole series is ridiculously sweet, just like almost all books. And I liked it.
You need a right mood for this series if you really want to 'enjoy' the stories.
I love fairy tales, and the whole series is some fairy tales sweetness without an evil witch. How sweet.
Don't read this one if you're searching for angst and dark read, I guaranteed you will 'never' find it here.

Matthew is a kind of man I want to marry *cough*, you know, I'm okay with 'just" 'ordinary' devastatingly handsome, rich, sweet and great attitude man.
I put myself in Drakon's side, and I feel so lucky. Drakon on the other side, was a little irritating.
I mean, c'mon, it's Matthew *fucking* Hawke we're talking about. I'll give 'anything' for that man. Anything ! *Sigh, big sigh*

Ignore me, I have a real big crush on that man. Loved him !
Loved the story.
Now I need to finish this series. Meeting Ramos and Tiernan..and all the guys in book 5. Can't wait!

Where do I start....maybe with the sugar-overload-of-sweetness-high? Or the fact that I am bouncing off the walls with the feels and the warm fuzzies? I haven't been on this happy moonbeam for a while and it's nice to be back *sigh* This book is pure romcom......coincidences aplenty that would normally cause you to eye-roll, but gives you a girlish giggle *grin*

Matthew, devastatingly handsome, rich, sweet and gentle....what's not to like? Drakon, twinkie-cake addict, shoe obsessed with an artistic flair and very low self confidence....well...obviously a match made in heaven!! The treadmill flirt made me laugh and I was hooked. The phonecalls, "Roy" and some extreme silliness around Blaine and Spencer's wedding kept the story at a steady pace. The ending was hearts and fluff and the HFN left me eager for the next book....Ramos and Tiernan - I am so hoping for some serious fireworks from these two!!

Fab read. Recommended.

I just love this series. They are so ridiculous but so fun. These two doofs just can't let themselves be happy! Matt was a nice guy, I really liked that I could understand his reasoning. Drakon was also great, but his moments of irksomeness bugged me more. I enjoyed that the big misunderstanding about their identities didn't drag too long, because it was already stretching believability that Matt couldn't figure out Drake/Drakon. Like come on. Then the story shifted with a new "angst factor", which was okay, but Drake's reaction to it was so overblown to me that it dinged his character for me. But still this is a great series, and I liked the set up for the next book.

4th in this series. I liked Matthew. He was sweet, funny and just a nice guy who wanted to find that someone. Drakon, I was not over happy with, he seemed like a brat who made excuses of "not being good enough" to hold people at a distance.

This is easy to read, but I didn't love it. I stalled in the middle and it took a little time to pick up again... Both MCs are really sweet; I'd have like MC Matt to continue on his fumbling way though ~ it would have added more dimension to the story.
