So continues my struggles with the French language.

This is a handy little book. I was searching around on Amazon for something cheap on Kindle that would help my French, and this fit the bill nicely. The title pretty much tells you everything you need to know. I'll just add that every paragraph has vocabulary words in bold, which are defined below (but since my Kindle has a French dictionary it wasn't very necessary). Also, if you purchase the book, there's a link to download free audio recordings of the stories. I like to listen along to audiobooks when I'm reading French; the pronunciation is hard for me, so it's nice to hear a native speaker read it. The quality of the stories themselves is what you'd expect: simple short pieces, not especially exciting but engaging enough.

I find it interesting how different have been my experiences trying to learn French and German. For me, German is easy to pronounce and to speak, but harder to read; and French is quite easy to read, but hard to pronounce and to speak. (Doubtless, this has much to do with German orthography being more strictly phonetic, and French having more obvious cognates with English.) So I find myself having to focus on very different things. In German, I need to expand my vocabulary; and in French, I need to force myself to talk.

I'm lucky enough to have a friendly French coworker who occasionally listens to me babble. (Bless her patient Francophone soul!) But that's not quite enough; we have to work, after all. Maybe I should start watching French television and movies? (Any recommendations?) Or maybe I'll just have to enroll in classes!

Well, this review went way off topic. To return to the book, it's a nice product—and cheap! A wonderful way to brush up if you're rusty, or to improve your reading skills.

Un bon livre!
This was exactly what I was looking for. I took French for three years when I was in high school and was looking for something to help me brush up my skills before I attend university. This book, which features seven short stories, was just at my level. Being able to read modern stories in French, with many of the more difficult words explained in English, was so much better than just studying a list of words or phrases. The stories were enjoyable without being juvenile.
What I really love about this book is that it also comes with links for MP3 downloads of the stories. I enjoyed hearing them being read in native French. It also has a link for more French lessons and offers a free Ebook from the famous author Maupassant.
Overall, a great book that I recommend for people between the beginner and intermediate level. It really helped me learn a lot of new words and review a lot of words that I had forgotten. I really appreciate the format of this book, the up-to-date stories, and all the extra help this book delivers.

This is an excellent book to start learning French. The stories are easy to follow and there are good explanations of phrases. If you are beginning you may need to hear it as you read. My pronunciation is fairly good so I didnt need it as I went through the first time. At the end of the book there is a link to get the audio. It took me a while to figure which link that was. The download was not that easy for me, however I did accomplish it. That's the only drawback to an excellent format.

Accessible stories for french learners, specially intermediate or upper beginners. There are 7 short stories, all with the main vocabulary of the texts presented in short pieces throughout the text. In the end of each story there is a vocabulary recap to review words and expressions. It was very nice to learn new expressions and to see the use of french words in a full narrative.
