Audiobook review. I don't do a lot of romantic suspense but books like this make me feel like I'm totally missing out! I was enthralled by the writing, plot, and characterization. Sarah and Jax are complete opposites on the surface but are a lot more alike once you see into their depths. I liked the evolution of their relationship and the plot devices that helped them transition in growth and development. The secondary characters added value and context to the story. They were constructed uniquely and were solid. The plot had me on edge and built anticipation in perfect execution. The way the events tied together was impressive. The narrator did an absolutely amazing job with the different voices and tones. The beginning gave me chills. She does this creepy whisper voice that really gives life to the words. I loved it. Safety: No OW/OM/Sharing. No rape. Definite yes to abuse. Graphic.

Much more than romantic suspense, this is a romantic thriller and I loved every word!

My thoughts

I’ve been fascinated with - and drawn to - Jax Fontaine since he first step foot on the scene, and that fascination has just grown stronger as the stories continued. To say I was thrilled to finally learn more about him is putting it mildly, and now that we know him better…I’m head over heels in deep with this man. Sarah Jacobs is also an intriguing character whose story is heartbreaking. But despite her past she’s an incredible woman whose intelligence and compassion know no bounds. Apart they're amazing but put these two people together and you have an intensely complex couple who challenge each other, better each other, and burn up the pages! Seriously, this is a great read!

If you’re a fan of romantic suspense with lots of romance and steam, be sure to give Cynthia Eden’s LOST series a try. You’ll be glad you did.

An ARC was provided by Avon Books. In appreciation I’m giving them an honest review.

This book took me on a wild ride!

Shattered was darker than the previous books in the LOST series. It was an intense and emotional read mixing intrigue, action and a heart-pounding suspense. A story that demands the pages be turned!

The attraction and love between Sarah and Jax was heart melting. They were perfect together, so alike.

Sarah was one of those heroines I absolutely like. Such a strong one! Her childhood was a horror few know of and we learn every horrific details of it. And because of it she couldn’t possibly believe that she could fall in love or be loved in return. Not easy to overcome a past with a serial killer as a father.

Oh Jax, I simply loved him! We met Jax in Twisted, book two in the Series, and I found him very intriguing and I needed to get more about him. He's just the kind of hero I enjoy a lot. Dangerous, dark, sexy, yet incredibly sweet with Sarah, a powerful alpha male proving that they do indeed belong with one another. Also with his own tragic story, he won my heart over and over as I read the book.

I truly enjoy Cynthia Eden’s stories. So wonderfully written, so captivating and flawless, you couldn't help but love them. If you are looking for a brilliant and steamy romantic suspense, read Shattered. Highly recommended. :D

"Some people get happy endings." Sarah said. "Even if they have to walk through fire first."

Shattered starts off with the LOST team still in New Orleans after closing their most recent case. Before they leave Jax Fontaine hunts down profiler, Sarah Jacobs to ask for her teams help in finding out where he came from before he was taken as a boy. Before he could ask her though, she is attacked in her hotel room and Jax saves her. Sarah's dark past is making an appearance again and both she and Jax realize that she has an enemy in New Orleans.

Jax felt an instant connection to Sarah when he met her and will do anything to protect her from danger. They start on a twisted journey, trying to find a killer and uncover secrets from both of their pasts. Along the way things get uncovered that neither Jax nor Sarah ever thought would come out and they find themselves trying to protect a lot more than just each other.

Jax was notorious in New Orleans as being a violent, powerful man that residents feared. But Sarah could see the deeper side of him. He was a fierce protector in a really rough around the edges kind of way and loyal to those he cared about. We met him in and right away I knew I needed to get more of his story to find out what he was hiding behind the tough exterior. I loved his character and how possessive he was with Sarah, not in a creepy way but a majorly sexy way!

Sarah's dad was "Murphy the Monster" a serial killer that tortured his victims until they begged for death. He taught Sarah from a young age how to be a killer like him and how to read people. She used the evil from her father to become a profiler and turns what she was taught into something good. I thought she was a strong character and I actually really liked her in this book. When we first met her she came off kind of stand offish so I wasn't sure how I would feel about her, but in this book she opened up so much and the change was amazing. Jax brought out a different side to her and it made me realize how truly perfect they were together.

I felt like this book was different than the rest of the series because it was more suspenseful and a little darker but I loved the change. I was kept on edge the whole time while reading and I hated when I had to put the book down. There was also a softer side to the story that I thought was absolutely amazing. I really did not know that Jax would be as sweet as he was but I loved it and I loved how it calmed the rougher parts of the book. There was darkness, there was cuteness, and I absolutely loved all of it.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and am so happy that I got to read it early because I was nonstop thinking about it ever since I read Twisted. But oh my gods, that ending! The epilogue killed me so here we go with the waiting again...

“Do you know what I saw when I looked in your eyes? he whispered into her ear.
Sarah shook her head.
“You were hurting. Trying to hide your pain, but I could still see it. I looked at you and thought—I never want her to hurt again.

Another fantastic RS from Cynthia Eden. This series just continues in strength and awesomeness.
I have been waiting for Sarah and Jax’s book since the previous book, and it surpassed even my high expectations.

Sarah is the daughter of the serial killer Murphy the Monster and she was the one that turned him in. She is a criminal psychologist, who is masterful in getting into the heads of killers. Sarah is afraid of the darkness inside her, which is always just there lurking beneath the surface, ready to drown her in guilt.

The first time she’d seen him, she’d looked into his eyes and thought
He can handle all my darkness. He won’t ever be afraid of what I tell him.
Because his gaze had told her that he’d already looked into hell . . . and hadn’t given a damn about the demons there.

Jax grew up in the gutters, and he has crawled and fought his way to the top. He knows darkness, and he isn’t afraid of it. He does whatever is necessary to win.

Opposites didn’t always attract. Sometimes, two people who were alike met—and the rest of the world fell away. It was like two halves of a fucking whole finally connected. That was what it felt like for him every single time Sarah touched him.
Both can’t deny the instant attraction they felt upon meeting, and although Sarah tries to ignore this pull, Jax isn’t about to let her go. He sees the real her, and he knows that she won’t be afraid of his darkness.

I just loved the chemistry between Sarah and Jax. They heated up the pages and had me swooning. Both were so good at hiding their true selves from others, but not from each other.

“I’m fucking you because I look at you and I want. Simple fact. “I want you naked. I want in you. I want you so much that I know my control won’t hold long, not when you’re around. Because the desire I feel for you is too raw, too strong.

I loved Jax. I’ve always had a weakness for badasses, with sexy accents, and wonderful tattoos, and with a little brokenness inside. Just waiting for the right woman to make them realise their true worth. And Sarah was just perfect for him. I loved his protectiveness, and the way he was with Sarah. All that is Jax, was just yummy and so very sexy.

Monsters were real, and they usually hid beneath the skin of men.

The suspense was superb. The enemy, a man from the past, intent on destroying Sarah and Jax. And he will stop at nothing to obtain his goal.

Cynthia Eden is one of my favorite authors, and I just love how she writes romantic suspense. She has a real knack for writing serial killers, and I have no idea how she does it, but she has made me feel compassion for a serial killer again, just like in . Sarah’s father, Murphy the Monster, has killed many people. But the reason he started killing broke my heart, and I felt so sorry for him.

This book has been added to my favorites list, and I will be rereading it again and again.
For all who loves romantic suspense, with intense romance and thrilling suspense you have to read this series. A highly recommended read.

Sarah knew evil. Her father was a convicted serial killer and she made it her life's mission to get in the heads of killers. So when she discovered bodies dropping, she refused to be afraid. And why would she be? The most dangerous man she'd ever met, Jax, was determined to keep her safe. What happens when the killer they're hunting is also hunting them?

I will admit, Sarah annoyed me for only one reason. She suffered from silliness, thinking that with multiple attempts on her life, that she could take care of herself. And I'm not saying she couldn't. There are women out there who have no choice but to do it on their own. But she wasn't alone. She had a team of people who did this stuff for a living. Why go it alone when you can have support? Stop your nonsense.

I really liked Jax and discovering the bits and pieces of his past. Finding out what made him the way he was made me a bit sad, but it gave his character such depth and I appreciated it. The author did a great job with his character. I even liked how his life had ties to Sarah's, without them even knowing it. Be it fate, destiny or kismet, these two were meant for each other in the most twisted of ways.

I have no clue how my original review vanished.

The book remains an engaging re-read and I do love Jax as a MC.

Even though I guessed who the bad guy was I did enjoy how the plot unfolded.

If you are looking for a brilliant and steamy romantic suspense, check out Shattered.

Bad boy, Jax goes head to head with Sarah, the profiler. When they met, they had a connection, now Jax wants to see where it will lead. He hires the Lost team and specifically Sarah to help uncover his past.

Sarah has always been a unique character, growing up with a love of a father who happened to be a serial killer. Her past gives her unique insight into the minds of others. She is reluctant to let anyone in but there is something about Jax that keeps pulling her closer.

Could you say I didn’t see that coming, I was left wow’d and stunned.

This novel was absolutely adrenaline inducing, the pages burn with emotions and pulse pounding action.

...and if you want to talk about tension, you can practically see the sexual tension; it is such a physical thing.

Cynthia Eden shoots it out of the ball park with the hot as Hades, fabulous new addition to LOST series, Shattered

That ending!

Review posted on

In this third installation of Cynthia Eden’s LOST series, we see it pick up right where there last book Twisted left off. The LOST team is still in New Orleans, and while they’re wrapping everything up from the previous case, one of their own is targeted.

Sarah Jacobs is the daughter of one of the most famous serial killers of all time, and she’d never realized that her entire childhood, he’d been grooming her into someone like him. But once she realized what he was, and what he’d been doing, she stopped him.

But his legacy is her legacy, and so many of his victims know who she is. Even though she’s used his training to become a profiler, to get into the minds of others like him, not everyone sees the good she’s done. Sins of the father, and all that.

Jax Fontaine runs New Orleans. He’s the leader of a motorcycle club, he owns a bar, and a whole bunch of run down properties, but he’s the one no one wants to mess with. And he’s also the one you want on your side. He wants Sarah. And he always takes what he wants.

Sarah and Jax have had off the charts chemistry since the last book, and it only gets hotter. But when he saves her from a knife-wielding junkie, their chemistry isn’t the only thing heating up. New Orleans holds more than just romance for them.

The man after Sarah is using her to get back at her father, but he’s also using Jax to get to Sarah. Too bad they don’t know that. There’s so much going on, and some twisted sicko is out there gunning for them. But the LOST team won’t let him get away with it…and neither will her father. Even from prison, his reach is far.

Sarah and Jax can’t seem to catch a break, and the LOST team seems to constantly be one step behind.

The tension is unbelievable, the heat is sultry, and the nights are dangerous. This is proving to be one of Cynthia Eden’s best series yet.

I love this better than the first one. We have Sarah our h, whose past is a nightmare. Her dad is serial killer and taught her to hunt and kill. To be just like him but of course, she's not. She turned it into something good. She became a profiler to catch the bad guys instead. I have deep respect for Sarah and she's a very likeable heroine. As for Jax our H *swoon* when he met Sarah, for him it was like two halves of a whole finally connecting. Very protective and sweet towards her. Their attraction was pretty intense. And the suspense... kept me at the edge of my seat.

The third book in the LOST series by Cynthia Eden. Dr. Sarah Jacobs is ready to return to Atlanta after the last case but she is attacked by a crazed man who feels she is evil because of who her father is. Her father is a serial killer who she turned in when she was 16. Now she is a psychologist working for LOST. Jax Fontaine is a shady character, suspected of many criminal acts. He has been attracted to Sarah from their first meeting. He shows up at Sarah's hotel room in the nick of time and saves her life.

Another book that follows the formula of the previous two in the series. But it is a formula that I enjoyed. Lots of action and suspense.

By far the best book in this series. I really enjoyed the story between Jax and Sarah. Great suspense that kept me up reading past midnight. This book the romance felt right up there with the suspense. I've said previously that Cynthia Eden does a great job on the suspense part, well this time I enjoyed the romance just as well.

I have loved every book in Cynthia Eden's LOST Series so far and Shattered was no exception. After meeting Jax in Twisted I couldn't wait to get my hands on his book and he has easily become my favorite hero in this series.

Jax and Sarah met in Twisted when the LOST team was working on a case in New Orleans and now that that case is wrapped up Jax approaches Sarah about her team solving a case for him. That case quickly gets swept to the side, however, when Sarah gets attacked and a girl goes missing.

Jax is a total badass that everyone in New Orleans fears but when it comes to Sarah he's a total softie. He has all the qualities I look for in a hero... Protectiveness, possessiveness, and he's not afraid to put it all on the line for the woman he wants.

And Sarah... While completely vulnerable when it comes to some things regarding her past, she's not a woman to cower and I absolutely love that about her. She definitely has some darkness in her... And I mean how could you not having a serial killer as a father?! But that's what makes her and Jax so perfect for each other.

Along with the romance we get some great suspense revolving around Sarah and Jax and the rest of the LOST team... I don't want to say too much regarding that but there were definitely some twists and turns that I didn't see coming. And that excerpt? I cannot wait for the next book in this series!!!

Sarah suffers ghosts and monsters from the past while doing her work at LOST, and those dark memories becomes a bond with Jax.
Jax is trying to find out his past, and LOST seems to be his best bet at this time. That Sarah is his in with the group is just a perk, until he encounters her in a dangerous situation, and from there it's full speed ahead.
Contemporary romance, action, suspense and smutty fluff in a great combo, just like you know Cynthia Eden can deliver. Loved it!

this book was.....everything: amazing. scary. suspenseful. stunning. twisted. shocking. explosive. fast-paced. beautiful. frightening. hot. passionate. hurtful. sad. awesome. ingenious. thrilling. ..... I couldn't put it down. it was one of the best books I've ever read. great h+H, brilliant story, lots of action - it was simply perfect. the basics: third person multiple POVs (incl. the killer's, very well done), past tense, no OW/OM, no cheating, the h was it for H, well written sex scenes, can be read as stand alone (every book features a different couple), no rape or abuse though h+H are hunted by a killer and he tortures another victim with a knife and there are some violent scenes.

This is the third book in the series. While I do think this can be read as a standalone, I have read the previous two and enjoyed them, and I think it does make the characters more meaningful, so I highly suggest reading this series in order. As I have said before Cynthia Eden’s books are like crack for me. They are addictive, with a quick short high, that doesn’t last long, and leaves you scrambling for the next one, often with very little memory of that previous high. Fortunately for us readers, book crack is not in fact actual crack, and so we are free to indulge as we please and as often as we please.

LOST, Last Option Search Team, is a group that finds the missing. All the members have their demons, their secrets, for why they ended up where they are now. Dr. Jacobs secrets seemed to be darker, the way she can put her self into the minds of killers and the hints about her past, and that seeming couldn’t have been more true. I’ll admit though, I was kind of hoping she’d end up with guilt stricken good guy Wade, but this was so much better.

Jax Fontaine has secrets, secrets from those around him, and secrets even from himself. He’s dark, and edgy, and oft times brutal. But he can handle Sarah’s darkness. And from my perspective, he’s sexy and I could just eat him up. However, I am completely unsure who the hell that man on the cover is supposed to be, because it certainly isn’t Jax Fontaine,

So let me get the negatives out of the way first. For those who are bothered, this is sort of insta-love, or at least insta-lust. Granted it started in the previous book, but that only adds a couple of days to their relationship. It worked fine for me, but your mileage may vary. There was also a rather lackadaisical approach to birth control that I was less than pleased with. But that is my particular hot button, so again, YMMV.

But on to the good. This book was a roller coaster of twists and turns. Just absolutely dozens of twists and turns. By the end of it was completely shocked by who the villain turned out to be, and that doesn’t happen too often. I may not completely guess, but they are almost always on my radar. This one just hit me with several blind sides. The chemistry between the two main characters was smoking and sweet. We got just enough glimpses to be sure previous couples were still on the right path to their happily ever afters without it being so much that it overwhelms the current story, or that I think it would be intrusive to new readers. And like I said, the action and the mystery kept me absolutely riveted.

Eden’s romantic suspense don’t usually hit my re-read shelves, they just aren’t that compelling or deep. But they are always consistent and I devour them gleefully because she never lets me down. She’s probably also one of the more prolific writers on my must read list with over 60 titles between her paranormal and her romantic suspense lines, and I haven’t had a true dud yet. So for a book crack dealer, she’s always my best bet. Shattered is great addition for the addicted, and I can’t wait for Victoria and Wade’s respective stories.

ARC REVIEW

Oh Man, I love Cynthia Eden. Shattered is book three in the LOST series it picks up right after the events of Twisted. Like the previous two books this is a dark romantic suspense, and much like Beware of Me (from the Dark Obsessions series) it centers on a criminal anti-hero and heroine with a tortured past. Like with most of Cynthia Eden’s recent books it is not for the squeamish; bad things happen, things that can make us uncomfortable but the book has more than that in it and it balances out so it’s not so angsty and depressing. Hell the book is about serial killers it’s not suppose to make us feel comfortable. I love it when characters survive through the worst of the worst and come back kicking. Both Jax and Sarah have not lived easy lives they are who they are because of it but they haven’t let it stand in their way. I love Cynthia Eden’s writing style, it’s very fluid and it teases you makes you second guess your own suspicions. This one was a surprise and I was so wrapped up in the characters and what they were doing the twist at the end took me by surprise. I love the opening line of both the Prologue and Chapter One, so completely creepy it sets the mood for the rest of the book.

Sarah and Jax are kindred spirits, two lost souls searching for something. Neither know what it is they exactly looking for but they find it in each other. They both understand the darkness that dwells deep inside them; what they hide from everyone else but they see it in each other. Sarah and Jax fight to find a serial killer who seems to have targeted Sarah because of her father, a well known serial killer in his own right. But for some reason he is trying to ruin Jax also. The ending takes an unforeseen twist that almost costs Sarah and Jax their lives.

Shattered is a definite keeper, the books in this series just keep getting better and better. Overall, this has to be one of my favorite Romantic Suspense this year so far.

I really enjoyed this book, especially the serial killer aspect. For some sick reason, I kinda liked Sarah's dad, eventhough he was a brutal serial killer. The love he had for his daughter really fascinated me.

I liked both the hero and the heroine, but I had a hard time picturing Sarah as a profiler. Some of her actions and behavior just made it a bit unbelievable to me. I guess I watched too many episodes of criminal minds ;)

The suspence part of the story was very good and eventhough I figured out who the bad guy was before they did...there were also some surprises that I didn't see coming.

I will definitely be reading more by this author !

4 stars from me :)

This series is just really fantastic. And this one in particular... such fascinating, complicated characters. Sarah, Jax... but most of all, Sarah's father. I was honestly riveted.

Unlike the previous books in the series, I didn't guess who the bad guy was, and to be honest, it felt like that was the weakest part of the story - it relied so heavily on coincidence that it stretched my suspension of disbelief. So I'll take a half star off for that.

But the book is well worth the read just for these characters. So great.
